WR/KR Jacoby Ford back working on kick returns

Jacoby Ford spent most of his first day back working on getting back in the swing of playing wide receiver. On Thursday, he added kick return to his workload.
Ford missed the past two games with a hamstring strain. He returned the bulk of the kicks in practice today, as Nick Miller, Denarius Moore and Taiwan Jones looked on.
Toward the end, Jones returned a kick. Ford returned kicks in the regular-season opener. Miller replaced him against the Buffalo Bills. Jones handled the role against the New York Jets.
Raiders coach Hue Jackson said Wednesday that he will consider using Ford on kicks against the New England Patriots on Sunday. Jones is the logical candidate to return kicks if Jackson opts against taxing Ford in his first game back.

Free safety Michael Huff is at practice for the second straight day. That bodes well for his playing Sunday and not being bothered anymore by the concussion he suffered against the Jets.

Fullback Marcel Reece (ankle), defensive end Matt Shaughnessy (shoulder), wide receiver Louis Murphy (groin/hamstring), linebacker Ricky Brown (concussion) and cornerback Chris Johnson (hamstring) also are not at practice.
As of now, it appears a long-shot that Reece, Murphy and Johnson will be healthy enough to play Sunday. Brown won’t be cleared to practice until he passes the mandatory tests for players who suffer a concussion. Shaughnessy’s status is uncertain.

Three officials are presiding over practice once again. They have been out here for the Wednesday and Thursday practices the past three weeks on the heels of the Raiders committing 15 penalties in their first game.
Some might say the added attention is paying off. The Raiders cut down that figure to eight against the Bills and seven against the Jets.

Kicker Sebastian Janikowski was named AFC Special Teams Player of the Month for Septempber.
He tied the NFL record with a 63-yard field goal against the Broncos. He also had a 54-yarder off the dirt against the Jets.
Janikowski is the only player in NFL history with two field goals of 60 yards or longer. His first one came against the Cleveland Browns in 2009, when he connected from 61 yards.
In somewhat of a shocker, Moore wasn’t even considered for AFC Offensive Rookie of the Month despite two impressive games.

Interesting from JC off of raiders.com

Q: There’s a lot of buzz about this last week. Did you notice the change, like with Raider fans?

Jason Campbell: We try not to notice it because we have a lot to improve on as a team. We feel like we’ve got a long ways to go, the Patriots are coming in town and we know how quickly things can change. You win one, and you are the greatest teams in the world; you lose one, same old Raiders and that’s usually been said. Our mindset is to keep playing and keep getting better from week to week because we’re still a team that’s hungry, still a team that’s trying to get injured players back on the field; we’re still a team that didn’t complete a third down conversion last week and that’s something that can’t happen. So, there’s things we have to improve on – eliminate negative penalties, eliminate the personal foul penalties, so there’s a lot of things we have to improve on. So, we’re not trying to get caught up in things that have been said about our team. We appreciate the respect, but at the same time, we’ve got a ways to go.

Slow today. According to Hue, the team will be practicing in the morning the rest of the year, regardless of opponent or location.

  • MikieG

I know one thing about the Patriots…you start treating Brady like a ragdoll and they quit..Dude hates to get hit, pouts when he does and the whole team goes in the tank..
Our team will be totally dependent on our defense to get some bone crushing hits on Brady..if we can get some pressure up the middle in his face, and pound his a$$ into the ground for a few sacks or incomplete passes, these guys will tuck tail and cry about it all the way back to Foxboro…
    Print it..

I dont understand why anyone would complain about chuck b. his defense has given us a chance to win all 3 games this year. had the players executed the scheme properly we would be 3-0 and the games we won would have been wins with larger margins.

as it stands teams dont know if we are rushing 4, or playing man, or covering zones. are we going to blitz, is it a db or an lb? what about the 5 d linemen sets he uses with wimbly standing in elephant next to houston.

Our dbs have been in position for several interceptions, and branch has been reborn. just wait until missle mike is up to speed.

we wont have to go 1 or 2 lbs against the spread because mm34 can play an lb role against that offense.

Chuck b’s scheme has been fun to watch when executed properly, and by years end the guys will have gelled and grown accustomed to assignments roles and concepts.

Playing more zone is by necessity b/c of injury but, I think Rod Woodson has Al’s ear.

    ******************

Lynn who knows why its working now, but we are in the top in sacks and we have forced 5 turnovers in 3 games. We have dropped 3picks and were robbed of a forced fumble. Sure we are giving up big yards and some big plays, but that is the players failing to tackle.

trust me this is the best defense we have seen here since 02.
