Bill Soliday on Al Davis

Share

With all that has been written about Al Davis the last few days, maybe you missed this one.

Here’s a link to a remembrance on Patch.com by Bill Soliday, who dealt with Davis dating back to 1965 starting with the Fremont News-Register through the Hayward Daily Review through the Oakland Tribune/Bay Area News Group etc., etc. etc.

A terrific story, and if you’re ever lucky enough to run into Bill, it only scratches the surface of what he knows about the Raiders.

A unique totally local perspective. Check it out.

actually, the change is due to Hue first and foremost. Don’t want to rob him of his due. Has turned a moribund offense into a top-5 one.

    night.

  • fingers

    Long Live Raider Nation..!!

  • rob_raider

yep–it’s due to hue, al davis hire. great job al!

  • rob_raider

    u built a winner!

  • alex7

he also hired Chuck B. so let’s slow down our roll.

  • alex7

and rob ryan. and NOT monte kiffin. and sanjay lal. and norv turner with no talent. and art shell. and bed and breakfast guy.

    other than that…

  • rob_raider

    and gruden.

  • fingers

I’ve bought into Coach Jackson… I think he is the right guy and I also believe the players are buying Into Hue….were at least headed in the right direction and so far it appears Al Davis had all his Ducks lined up in case he did pass away as to how to proceed….

  • alex7

yes, traded gruden, can’t forget that.

    commitment to…my way.

  • rob_raider

al davis will prove once again that he knew what he was doing this year. he built every part of this team. dicks on this board who try claim he didn’t build this team are morons. when they finish 10-6 or better, they can suck my dick.

  • rob_raider

yep. my team. my way. of course. what great man would do it any other way?

  • rob_raider

regrets? he had a few. but then again, too few to mention.

  • rob_raider

alex–prediction for sunday? browns win, right?

  • alex7

eeew rob, you want people to do what to you? gross.

Browns are not the Patriots or Bills. Raiders 27, Browns 20. Defensive/ST touchdown for Oakland.

  • fingers

    Raiders..30…. Browns 20…..

  • alex7

well, a great man would look at an NFL-worst 10+ loss seasons under his watch and give more power to others. Which Al finally did.

  • rob_raider

    raiders 38 browns 6

  • rob_raider

    no he didn’t. liar.

  • alex7

we traded Gruden for Teyo Johnson, Philip Buchanon, Tyler Brayton, and Langston Walker. That was awesome.

  • rob_raider

oh u mean ur “phantom” hire that no one knows about who secretly helped al draft the last 2 years? ur a joke.

  • alex7

he let Chuck B. run a zone defense to his heart’s content this year. He let coaches talk him into drafting a slow LB #8 overall, something unheard of for him.

So yes, yes he did relinquish a bit.

  • alex7

and the blitzing! he let us blitz the last two years!

  • rob_raider

u picked all 5 teams we’ve played to win. ur changing now b/c u want to jump on the bandwagon ever so sneakily. snake.

  • alex7

I bet the Bills, Patriots, and Texans.

    Almost swept. Thanks.

  • alex7

here’s your little reynold’s wrap foil crown for being the “winner” of tonight’s debate. Now maybe you can go to bed. The crown has an L on it, for loveable I think.

  • rob_raider

the defense id run by the DC, dummy, not al davis. rob ryan runs the same defense today as he did then. so does bresnahan. when he fired kiffin, he talked about the letter that told kiffin to quit complaining, “you ran your beloved cover-2”. he has a philosophy. he hires people he thinks are on the same page. they do their thing. he gives them advice and input. simple. the only thing different the past 2 years is that the players he brought in are developing and the coachoing staff he brought in are doing well. he was unafraid to fire people he was wrong about. that’s strength.

  • alex7

sorry bud, he gave Rob Ryan a whopping 2 months to install a 3-4 scheme before making him scrap him.

Al Davis runs the D. Bill Belichick said so, former coaches said so, I’ll take their word over yours.

    Night.

  • alex7

and there is no difference the past 2 years. We finished 27th in run defense last year and are 31st in overall D this year.

Nice try though. Players developing and all that.

  • fingers

Not all that impressed with what I’ve seen of the Doltz …

Think the Afc west is there for the taking…
The Raiders should benifit from 3 weeks at home before going down to
    San Diego…
Of course the Donks think all their problems are solved now that Tebows gonna start.. saw their game Sunday… Tebow looked like a headless chicken… Hype..

  • rob_raider

he runs the defense from his office and his box? have u seen him out on the field on sundays? with a headset on during games? belichick meant he wants it run a certain way. a philosophy. big deal. if i own a team and i have a way i believe in, i’m gonna hire people who see it that way too. it’s called courage in ur convictions. but liars like you would never understand that.

Richard Seymour on Sirius Radio ( yesterday)….” I saw this team grow up right before my eyes on Sunday.. ”

    Long live Raider Nation..!!!!

  • rob_raider

yes, sunday was big. momentum is seriously with the raiders.

  • fingers

Were due to blowout some team…could be this Sunday at home….
When this offense finally comes together” Watch out”…

  • rob_raider

the coliseum will be jacked sunday. w/ the al davis tribute and fans believing. the players will feel it. they are believing too. just look at dhb. he was amped. pumping his fists. he played better than i’d ever seen him. this team may come out smoking. the browns suck in run defense. the raiders could pile up 200 yards. and i truly believe dhb has arrived. i went from thinking he would have about 45/650 to now thinking he could get 70/1000. the light went on. we witnessed the game that marks their arrival.

  • fingers

    Agree..

  • hwnrdr

Wait are we in here now talking thrash about Al???
Good Morning Nation!!! Oh boy, its gonna be a long week!

  • RaiderRockstar

Cowher? A Steeler? Here? Thank God Al is gone but he is probably STILL spinning in his grave hearing you want to bring a Steeler here.

    ***

    Sey Bush,

Al Davis tried to talk Terry Bradshaw out of retirement to come play in Oakland. shut your piehole

  • hwnrdr

Good Morning Rockstar! How’s things Bro? Family?

  • RaiderRockstar

I can’t believe MR & Kell are still around, after Al’s passing … what miserable people

plus that one jerk who always referred to Mr. Davis as the “old creeper”

  • SilverNBlackPA

So apparently the Westboro Baptist Church idiots are going to protest Al’s funeral. LOL. Are they unaware of what the Nation is like when angered? Good luck.

    Mornin’ a.m. crew

  • bcz24

MRs hate train has moved on to Trask and Herrera. No surprise really.

  • RaiderRockstar

    Good morning Hwnrdr!

things are great. family is great.

    how are you?

I’m ready to go spank Cleveland đŸ™‚

stuff Peyton Hillis = win the game

  • SilverNBlackPA

stuff Peyton Hillis = win the game

    ++++++++++

Amen. Easiest gameplan all season, RRS. Cleveland’s got a suspect QB and no real WRs to speak of.

Keep Branch up in the box and dare McCoy to beat us with his arm.

  • RaiderRockstar

points B & C should be to stuff Montario Hardesty and cover TE’s Watson & Moore

McCoy and the Brown’s WR corps don’t show up as a threat to me. I wouldn’t care if DVD & Porter started this game

  • DIRT-LOT FOOTBALL

    GOOD MORNING SPORT’S FAN’S.GOING 2 B A STRANGE GAME-DAY ALL AROUND I THINK..3RD SELLOUT IN A ROW ??HOPE 2 HOOK UP AGAIN HWNRDR..

  • SilverNBlackPA

Browns have two big DTs in the center, but their DEs are suspect at holding the edge against the run.

Get DMac and Taiwan Jones on the edge in space and the Browns are hosed. Screen ’em to death.

  • raiderfankirk

Just reading through and Rob agreed with every thing. Everyone hates the dic. I feel like I lost my grandfather on Saturday.

  • SilverNBlackPA

How desperate for receivers is St. Louis? They just signed White Webster yesterday!

  • hwnrdr

Rockstar…Doing good! And yup, we’re do to give a spanking!
Dirt Lot…Are you in A Lot this Sunday?
PA…what? How the F you disrespect family like that and what the F does the Baptist church have against Al? I agree…don’t anger the Nation!!!
