McClain, Shaughnessy, Reece not at practice

By Steve Corkran
Wednesday, October 12th, 2011 at 11:15 am in Oakland Raiders.

Fullback Marcel Reece, middle linebacker Rolando McClain and defensive end Matt Shaughnessy are not at practice today.
Reece and Shaughnessy missed the past two games, Reece with an ankle injury, Shaughnessy because of a sore shoulder. McClain hurt an ankle against the Houston Texans last Sunday.
The Raiders worked out linebackers Prescott Burgess and Kevin Malast on Tuesday, but they opted against signing either player. Also, Ricky Brown was placed on injured reserve Saturday, so he is out for the season.
For now, McClain’s backup is Darryl Blackstock, a core special teams player to date. He played under defensive coordinator Chuck Bresnahan with the Cincinnati Bengals in the past and in the UFL last season.
Tight end Richard Gordon (hand) also is not at practice. He did not play against the Texans as a result of the broken hand he suffered against the New England Patriots.

Cornerbacks Chris Johnson and Chimdi Chekwa are back at practice, though it appears as if they are limited. Both didn’t play against the Texans.

A player is wearing No. 32 at practice. Coincidentally, running back Nic Grigsby is not at practice. Well, at least in the white No. 32 he wore last week, when he was signed to the practice squad.
It appears as if Grigsby has been converted to defensive back. We won’t know for sure until practice ends, and coach Hue Jackson and the players are available to the media.

Kicker Sebastian Janikowski was named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week for his four-field goal performance against the Texans.
Three of his field goals were from at least 50 yards, only the fifth time in history a player has accomplished that feat.

Rookie quarterback Terrelle Pryor is practicing with his teammates for the first time since his five-game suspension ended. The Raiders now have three quarterbacks on their roster for the first time this season.
Not that it matters much, the way Jason Campbell is playing. Backup Kyle Boller has yet to take a snap in any of Oakland’s five games.

Former Raiders running back Napoleon Kaufman is a visitor at today’s practice. Coach Hue Jackson attends the church that Kaufman preaches at in the east bay.

Stevie Cokring, come forth with information ASAP!

    my thoughts exactly lol

My fav part of the article:

“The move also underscores the fact that, despite the passing of Al Davis, the Raiders are still getting things done”

  • Seymour Bush

Curry really was considered an excellent LB prospect coming out of Wake Forest. Smart, very tough, a big time playmaker, basically every thing you would want. Good against the run and the pass, and could be a pass rusher as well. Funny thing is he might be good inside.

  • HueKnows

This is an Al pick for sure.

Wikipedia is saying it was for a 5th in 2012 and a 7th in 2013. Can’t complain with that!

that is more than fair if accurate

Per jay glazers tweet: Sources on Raiders & SEA tell me they’ve agreed to a trade sending Aaron Curry, 4th pick in 09 draft, to OAK for pick this yr, 1 next yr

Supposedly the raiders traded next years #1 to seattle for curry.

    It better not be…

  • John David Booty

Curry was a beast at Wake. I dont care, I think Seattle either gave up on him too early, or just didnt have the staff to motivate him. Huge steal for our team. If Im wrong, I’ll admit, but as of now, I see this as a trade that will benefit us for a long while. Im ecstatic over this move. Curry will be a beast for the Raiders. Wow, I still can not believe this happened. If we can get him to be HALF the player he was at Wake, we got a beast.

If whoever updated that is right, it’s a ridiculous steal, I dont’ care if he never lives up to his full potential.

  • inonewordraider

Curry was the “surefire” pick in his draft and was a monster against us in preseason

  • SilverNBlackPA

I’m with John David Booty at #258. Spot on.

Especially this: “If we can get him to be HALF the player he was at Wake, we got a beast.”

  • SilverAndBlackBleeder

I’m gonna keep hitting refresh on that wikipedia page, but that’s what it’s saying as of right now.

  • TheToozFan55

As long as he’s not another Robert Gallery, i’m cool.
and yes, i know it’s a different position.

  • hwnrdr

I wanted Curry from the 09 draft! Not sure what went wrong in Seattle, but hopefully Biekert and crew can get this kid going here!

Seymour666 da douche, you cant pick and choose where you draft in the rounds. You only get a late round pick if you win 10+ games so how could we send them a “late first round pick” when theres 11 games to go?

    Numnuts!

Steve, can I have your job?

  • Seymour Bush

Curry was drafted by the Mora regime. This is a classic example of a new group of coaches coming in and it not being a fit. Classic Raider move.

  • Blackmamba_20

Someone break it down for me how he will help us, i dont know too much about him… Does he take groves spot? can he cover?

  • SilverAndBlackBleeder

Ha, hilarious. Whoever posted that originally on the Wikipedia page has already changed it to an undisclosed pick now in 2012 and 2013. It’ll be crazy if what was put on there initially was the real deal and Wikipedia had the scoop before the major sports networks and were told to take it down!

  • http://repealitnow.org MistaBrown

Carroll is doing a nice job of dismantling what little Sea once had.

Are squad is stacked with talent man.. and the hapless brown await with haden injured Hillis whinging, thomas hurt, DMAC Rolls them for 150 on the ground

  • SilverAndBlackBleeder

JB – my thinking is he wasn’t a team player. Read more than a few times when he got benched his attitude completely changed. A new start is just what that type of attitude needs. He should have the mentality now that he has to earn his spot here and we might have ourselves a real player.
