Raiders trade for OLB Curry
By Steve Corkran
Wednesday, October 12th, 2011 at 1:45 pm in Oakland Raiders.
The Raiders traded for Seattle Seahakws outside linebacker Aaron Curry on Wednesday afternoon, less than a week before the trade deadline.
The Raiders gave up a seventh-round pick in the 2012 NFL draft and a conditional pick in the 2013 draft in exchange for Curry, who was selected with the No. 4 pick of the 2009 NFL draft, the same one in which the Raiders used the No. 7 pick on wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey.
Curry cleaned out his locker Wednesday afternoon. He has not arrived in Alameda yet.

No, the money it would take to re-sign #21 would not allow for Curry to signed. Besides we have some young DB’s that need to see the field.

Wow, just checked in the Al Davis is alive and well I tell you. That Curry trade is a classic AD move. Al Davis lives on like Elvis. Seatle fans were complaining about Curry and thought he was not bright at all nor have football instincts. I’ll take him with a 7th rounder any day of the week. Dude got speed and can roam side to side. I’m sure the coaching staff will put him to good use.

JB – my thinking is he wasn’t a team player. Read more than a few times when he got benched his attitude completely changed. A new start is just what that type of attitude needs. He should have the mentality now that he has to earn his spot here and we might have ourselves a real player.
*********************
Historically, that type of player has flourished in Oakland. Witness Mutuzak, Alzedo, Hendricks, etc. and recently Moss, Wimbley, Groves, etc. Curry has an opportunity to become great. That’s something that he didn’t really have in Seattle. This could be the steal of the century. I think he plays WLB but I’m not sure about that.
October 12th, 2011 at 1:51 pm
Low risk, high reward type move. He can/will help this team fast. Our 4-3 scheme will allow him to use his superior speed and athleticism to laterally make plays. Great, great move Al, * oops! I mean Hue. lol
October 12th, 2011 at 1:51 pm
*just checked in and Al Davis is alive and well…..damn computer.
October 12th, 2011 at 1:51 pm
Not bad for the fourth over all pick a few years ago considering what was given up.
October 12th, 2011 at 1:51 pm
Whoa, baby!
I remember thinking Curry was the slam-dunk, surefire thing in that draft. Haven’t followed him in Seattle so I’m not sure why it hasn’t worked out there whether it’s a system thing or it’s on him.
Regardless, this is one intriguing pickup at what looks to be a very cheap price.

On the other hand we are definetley gearing up for a playoff run and whoever starts opposite Routt more than concerns me.
Yes, The youngsters have talent and potential, they just need a little time to learn. I don’t think CJ37 is a good guy to take pointers from.

Raiders acquired OLB Aaron Curry from the Seahawks in exchange for a seventh-round pick in 2012 and a conditional mid-round pick in 2013.
The Raiders haven’t scrapped their philosophy of trying to rehabilitate former first-round busts in the post-Al Davis era. Curry, the No. 4 overall pick in the 2009 draft, flamed out in Seattle because he lacked instincts to diagnose run plays and was a zero in pass coverage. Raiders MLB Rolando McClain suffered a potentially serious ankle injury in Week 6, and Curry could be viewed as insurance behind likely replacement starter Darryl Blackstock.
========================
This is why people were saying he would be better inside. but here is my question how can a kid that was so dominant in college come to the pros and suddenly loose his instincts?
Sounds to me that maybe he was doing too much, freelancing and the like.
perhaps giving him a more defined structure would help.
Also it had to hurt his growth coming in as a college stud playing for a lame duck coach. he didnt have to listen to anyone….the jamarcuss syndrome

I agree. I think he was just being misused and bounced from a lameduck coaching staff to one that didn’t want him.
Fresh starts can work wonders, as the Raiders have proved time and again
And we gave up basically nothing for him, so if he doesn’t pan out, it was an acceptable gamble

He was a lot like what you guys thought of DHB. Just not getting the production for the money or draft status. Not a bad player for them, they just thought he would be completely dominant. Especially for $10mm per year. Probably needs a little more development, another coaching staff probably doesn’t help but we got him for a bargain price.

He probably is going to be playing SAM here. Wimbley will move up to the line full-time, and sadly, Shaugnessy’s injury is the biggest “nick” we’ve had to face on the injury bug front. Well, glad we got ourselves another potential player. And I agree with whoever posted it helps McClain tremendously. Now if we could only get Groves to stop taking terrible angles like he took on that Foster screen pass that broke for big yardage!

This may be a Jarvis Moss type move, a guy sometimes just doesn’t fit in one scheme and organization then comes to another and becomes a new man. He has talent we can use it’s a matter of them finding a way to use it. Jarvis Moss was able to come here and look at him now he was a huge bust in Denver and he may be our best edge rusher here. I think Curry can free up Wimbley to play DE like he wants to and let Curry play SLB. This might be the move that takes us over the top. So we’ll see what happens..

The main complaint from Seattle was that Curry has zero football instincts and not a smart dude at all. I was there last year and he did something pretty stupid outside of football and fans were blasting him on the radio. Not surprised that they dont want him and we got him. This reminds me of the Andray Bruce dude. With this HWS, I am sure we will find a role for him here. Dude took a $5 mil paycut to be a freeagent next year. IMO, not a bright move. Who would pay him anything near that next year?

This Just In: Al Davis is not dead. He’s just been converted to a futuristic cyborg hologram that still watches tape til 3 in the morning.
October 12th, 2011 at 2:06 pm
By Bill Williamson
The Oakland Raiders made their first move in the post-Al Davis universe and it was a very-Davis like move.
Oakland acquired Aaron Curry from Seattle. The linebacker was the No. 4 overall pick in the 2009 draft. He lost his starting job this year to a rookie.
Davis made a career of resurrecting the careers of former first-round picks. Curry has a chance to help Oakland at linebackers. He is known as an over-the tight end strong side linebacker. He could compete with Quentin Groves at weakside linebacker.
The Raiders gave up two picks for him. Seattle will receive a seventh-round pick in 2012 and a mid-round conditional pick (fourth or fifth round) in 2013 based on Curry’s playing time with Oakland, a source told ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen.
The Raiders don’t have second, third, fourth or seventh-round picks in 2012. They should get compensatory picks for the losses of Nnamdi Asomugha, Zach Miller and Robert Gallery. The highest comp picks are at the end of the third round. The Raiders will be informed of their comp picks in the spring.
October 12th, 2011 at 2:06 pm
I think little Ponyboy McCoy is in a whole heap of trouble this Sunday.
You don’t think in front of a rabid Black Hole that guys like Seymour, Kelly, Moss and Wimbley won’t be charged up to justify AD’s faith in them? Now add in Curry wanting to give the finger to the Seattle fans who are calling him a bust. Hope Colt has made his peace with God
October 12th, 2011 at 2:06 pm

Excellent Pick Up…A dude that can RUN playing linebacker..he might hit you with his purse as he runs by, but at least he has the ability to get out to the flat and try to get a glove on an RB…
Too many times I saw Groves and Kam about 10 yards late on getting to their flat responsibilities…
Although I did see Kam make some really fine tackles on a few screens so It kinda negates the bad with some good.
Just glad we added some talent that we need to develop.

Speed from the outside and beef in the inside. I always thought Lamar Houston was slow for a DE but extremely fast for a DT. I think it could work but hey,,,,

McLazy and Curry are both widely speculated to be better fits at ILB in a 3-4.
October 12th, 2011 at 2:19 pm
Curry was drafted by Seattle to rush the passer, and he wasnt very good at that. He is a hell of a run stopper though. I have a feeling he will start at SLB this week with Kam filling in for Romac… but I am grasping at straws.
Just want to say, I called this trade in training camp.

because they see other teams having success with it but on the same hand there are teams using 3-4 that are sucking badly as well.

Yeah I can see Kam Wimbley back at De with Curry coming to town. Am I the only one who would like to see a full game with Jarvis Moss and Kam Wimbley playing at De and moving Lamar Houston inside to DT next to Seymour with Kelly and Henderson rotating? Speed from the outside and beef in the inside. I always thought Lamar Houston was slow for a DE but extremely fast for a DT. I think it could work but hey,,,,

For our base defense that would make us very susceptable to the run. I liked Des Bryant and Houston with Seymour/Henderson/Kelly rotating inside
Moss & Wimbley on the edges with Houston inside has been our go to on 3rd downs tho

October 12th, 2011 at 2:24 pm
We don’t need to go to a 3-4 we just need better execution with what we’re doing now. We’re actually ahead of the bunch right now because in the next yr or 2 you’re gona see a lot of teams going back to a 4-3 set.

This trade aside (I’m not sure Curry will suit up and if he does it’ll mostly be a backup/special teams role) but I think this could get ugly on Sunday. Colt’s not bad, but he’s not big and he’s young and our d-line might annihilate him in this one.

Analysis
Positives: Strongly-built with long arms to keep himself off offensive linemen when playing against the run. Very smooth in pass drops, staying low in his backpedal and getting into depth at the proper angles. Good hands for the interception, and can break up passes using his hands or a big hit over the middle. Plays the nine-technique very well, ripping off the tackle’s block and getting to the ballcarrier on inside and outside runs. Also closes on the ball quickly when playing in the stack. Able to shed blocks and go through backs on blitzes. Will pop the fullback and create a pile to stuff inside runs. Shows good awareness on misdirection, quickly diagnosing plays and affecting the success of the play. Gets a lot of attention from opponents on special teams because of his size, speed and aggressiveness in kick return coverage.
Negatives: A bit stiff in the upper body, he tends to succeed most in straight-line situations rather than changing directions quickly. Can get to the quarterback on the blitz but doesn’t always make the play. Doesn’t explode into tackles consistently, using his long arms to try and wrap up.
Compares To: DERRICK JOHNSON, Kansas City — Like the Chiefs finally realized with Johnson, hopefully the NFL team that drafts Curry will do likewise and play him in the middle. He has very good athleticism making plays in front of him, but bites often on play-action, lacks good depth playing in the zone and is a bit too stiff to generate the sideline-to-sideline range to make impact plays on the outside, where he struggles to stop the runner’s forward momentum. He can clog the rush lanes when he stays low in his pads. Put him inside in a 3-4 alignment and he can be equally productive getting to the quarterback as he did in college. Play him on the outside and he will be exposed in a quick and deep passing game.
Scouting Report
GENERAL REPORT GRADE: 6.86
Body Structure: Curry has a tall frame with good arm and leg length. He has broad shoulders and thick legs, demonstrating above average weight room and playing strength. He has thick thighs and calves and tight midsection, hips and waist.
Athletic Ability: Curry has good quickness, feet and agility, with a strong straight-line burst, but lacks the fluid hips to generate quick lateral movement. He shows good acceleration closing on plays in front of him, but displays just adequate change of direction agility. He is a good athlete for the strong-side linebacker position, where he is best when working uncovered. He is a normal strider who plays with good knee bend, but shows some upper body stiffness that is evident when he fails to recover when over-pursuing on play-action fakes. GRADE: 7.0
Football Sense: Curry is a field smart player that reads keys well, but shows some inconsistency with his instincts. He understands game situations, but can be fooled by misdirection and play-action fakes. He retain plays after normal reps, but must be more alert to side blocks, as tight ends have good success pushing him back inside, where he can be absorbed by the bigger offensive linemen. He does well in school (was suspended for part of the 2007 Navy game for missing classes) and the mental side of the game should not cause many problems, but he needs to take better angles in pursuit, as teams have success when bouncing their running game outside. GRADE: 6.2
Character: Curry is very humble and polite off the field and has never had any trouble away from the game. He comes from a supportive family and has no known off-field issues. He is active within the community and is a good representative for the program. He recently showed his great character when he invited a 12-year-old leukemia victim to be his guest at the 2009 NFL Draft festivities in New York. GRADE: 7.2
Competitiveness: Curry is a good competitor who plays with aggression, but can get a bit reckless in his play, taking sloppy pursuit angles. He takes pride in his leadership role and despite his blue chip status, is a very team-oriented player. He plays with nice effort and shows urgency running to the ball. He displays toughness taking on blocks, but needs to be more physical using his hands to prevent blockers from kicking him back inside when playing on the edge (susceptible to side blocks). GRADE: 6.8
Work Habits: It is no secret that Curry spends quite a few hours in the weight room. He is a coachable sort who will take on any assignment the coaches ask. He is a self-made type that does the little extras on his own. It is not uncommon to find him putting in the extra hours in the film room, preparing for his next opponent. GRADE: 7.1
ATHLETIC REPORT: GRADE: 7.00
Key and Diagnostic Skills: Curry is quick to read, but is inconsistent to react (sometimes takes that extra second to digest and is late to make a jump on the ball). When he gets into position in time, he will generally make the play. He gets fooled often by play-action and lacks great pass coverage skills, as short-area receivers had good success on him last year (on 45 plays vs. the pass, the opposition completed 32 throws (71.1 percent) for 239 yards and four touchdowns in 2008). He tracks the ball better vs. inside running plays than in pass coverage and needs to make better adjustments on the move. Once he locates the ball, he does a good job of closing with speed. Some scouts like him as a middle linebacker, citing a concern about his lateral range. He can close and impact from the outside, but he might be a more disruptive force attacking from the inside. He is capable of handling the mental aspect of making the calls and lining up his teammates. GRADE: 6.4
Playing Strength and Explosion: Curry likes to line up close to the line of scrimmage, where he can use his explosion and burst to avoid blocks and cause havoc in the backfield. He has no problems when he has to face up, as he makes it tough for bigger blockers to handle him when he uses his athleticism to slip past linemen, but he needs to display better hand usage and strength to shed and keep blockers off his body, especially when pinched back inside. He will sometimes throw a shoulder, but he is most effective executing his punishing arm swipes to split double teams. He displays the lower body power to step up and fill the inside rush lanes, again a strong aspect for a potential move to middle linebacker. When he plays at a good pad level, he can keep containment with leverage on the tight end. GRADE: 8.2
Lateral Pursuit/Range: When Curry gets a clear lane up the middle, he shows excellent ability to run through traffic and avoid blocks to penetrate. His athleticism and speed allows him to make plays in space, but if he has to change direction suddenly he lacks the fluid hips to recover. He does play to the flow of the ball when working down the line and is light on his feet, but you can see the stiffness in his upper body when having to flip to the outside and generate long pursuit. He uses his hands well to play off low blocks, but when he out-runs a play on occasion he does not have that great balance needed to quickly recover, bounce back up and make the play. His speed allows him to cut off the runners in the backfield, but when operating at the corner he does not take great angles and must develop better sideline-to-sideline range. GRADE: 6.0
Use of Hands: Curry shows good hand usage to mirror and ride the hip of the tight end and backs in the short-area passing game. He has more than enough hand strength to shed blocks. When he extends his hands, he can use his speed to separate from the blocker. He has natural hands for the interception, timing his leaps to get to the ball at the high point while catching away from the body’s framework. GRADE: 8.3
Tackling Ability: Curry is a solid drag-down tackler, but will sometimes play out of control and over-pursue. In the open, he is not very effective at bringing his arms to wrap and secure, as he will get too high in his stance to impede the ball carrier’s forward momentum and must be more conscious of taking out the runner’s outside leg. He shows good pop on contact and can break down and face up, but for a player with his impressive power you would expect him to be a much bigger impact hitter. GRADE: 6.7
Run Defense: Curry is much more effective stepping up and clogging the rush lanes that generating pursuit vs. outside runs. He is stout at the point of attack and can take on and shed blockers in front of him, but lacks a great feel for tight ends executing side blocks. When he gets too high in his stance, he has some problems getting over trash. Thanks to his good upper body strength and hand jolt, he consistently is able to stack and control when taking on linemen. He needs to do a better job of maintaining leverage and keeping containment vs. the outside run, as he does not really show the loose hips to generate the range and speed to make plays along the sidelines. He can cover the field quickly on plays in front of him, but does look a bit stiff when trying to turn and run to the ball and making tackles in space (had problems giving long chase last year). GRADE: 7.3
Pass Defense: Curry’s Achilles heel is his penchant to bite often on play-action fakes. He lacks good depth in his pass drops, but does a good job of eyeballing the quarterback and getting a jump on plays in front of him. Still, teams completed 71.1 percent of their passes into his area in 2008. He just does not have the hip flexibility to turn and drop with proper angle and depth. He has a better feel for pass coverage in the short area, another reason to view him more as an inside linebacker than on the strong-side. GRADE: 6.3
Zone Defense: Curry knows how to settle in zones and keeps his head on a swivel, but just lacks the loose hips to turn and run on the deep patterns. He will allow his man to get separation on plays in the deep third of the zone and is better taking on receivers in front of him. He is just not effective enough to turn fluidly out of his backpedal, even when taking on tight ends. He does have a natural feel for the ball in flight, timing his leaps to get to the ball at its high point. He sees the big picture better playing in the short zone, when he can anticipate where the ball is going while maintaining tighter relationship with the receiver. GRADE: 6.2
Pass Rush and Blitz: Curry shows good explosion as a blitzer, but because of some lateral mobility stiffness he needs a clear lane to make plays in the backfield. He is better coming off the edge when he keeps his hands active, as he is susceptible to side blocks. When working in-line, he is better containing than pressing at the Xs, as he will get a bit upright and fails to protect himself from low blocks when on the move). He is consistent in getting good hand placement in order to shed, and he has that sudden burst needed to get upfield shooting the gaps when he plays at a low pad level. He closes with desire and even though he does not always take very good angles, he has the chase speed to compensate and make plays in the backfield (does need to improve his pass repertoire, as he relies too much on his speed). GRADE: 7.6

Curry hype per the Seahawk website:
*Has started 28 of 30 career games and totaled 130 tackles, including 5.5 sacks.
*Started 12 of 14 games during rookie season missing the final two with a shoulder injury. Totaled 60 tackles, 2.0 sacks and two forced fumbles.
*Finest game as a rookie came in a shutout versus Jacksonville (10/11/09) after leading the team with a career-high nine tackles to go along with a sack and forced fumble.
*Highest drafted Seahawks player since Shawn Springs was selected third overall in 1997.
*Highest drafted linebacker in club history.
*First linebacker chosen in first round since 1998 (Anthony Simmons).
*Seventh time in eight years club has selected a defensive player with their first pick.
*Third player chosen from Wake Forest since 2006 (Ryan Plackemeier, 2006; Steve Vallos, 2007.)
October 12th, 2011 at 2:37 pm
Those things could never be said of Curry, who became the highest-drafted linebacker since the Washington Redskins took Penn State’s LaVar Arrington with the second overall pick in 2000. But while Arrington made three Pro Bowls, Burry was a misplaced chess piece throughout his Seattle career. He failed to show the kind of savvy in zone coverage required of an elite outside linebacker, and he was inexcusably out of position and assignment far too often, even when given specific and limited responsibilities.
The Seahawks tried Curry at multiple positions, finally believing that they may have found his optimal spot as more of a stationary strong-side player. “Aaron, he’s deep into what we’re doing,” Carroll said. “We know how to utilize him now. Last year, we tried to figure out how much we should move him around in pass rush situations. He’s really an outside linebacker and he does a really good job of doing that. He’s playing first-team in the nickel package right now, and that’s something he didn’t do before.”
The Seahawks aren’t the only team recently hamstrung by a high-picked defensive draft disappointment. The New York Jets selected Ohio State defensive end Vernon Gholston(notes) with the sixth overall pick in the 2008 draft, and Gholston has started just five games since. The Jets waived him in February, 2011. The Buffalo Bills selected Penn State end Aaron Maybin(notes) with the 11th pick in the 2009 draft, and released him in August, 2011.
And to be somewhat fair to the Ruskell administration, the 2009 draft was fairly disastrous for a number of teams. In the top 11 picks alone, there have been several “busts” or underachievers to date. Curry, Maybin, Darrius Heyward-Bey(notes), Jason Smith(notes), Tyson Jackson(notes), Michael Crabtree(notes), and Mark Sanchez(notes) could each be said to have performed below their draft spots to date.
Curry leaves the Seahawks with 126 tackles and 5.5 sacks in 35 games.

Mcclain isn’t seriously injured, and the most he could miss is 1 game (i doubt even that considering he played all of last game). And Groves has been so bad that we need to replace him.
I suspect curry was brought in for one reason. He can cover te’s and rb’s a whole lot better then any of our big slow lbs.
Last week te’s and rb’s caught 17 balls for 319 yards. That is beyond bad. I wont be surprised if we start seeing him brought in on third and longs to cover up the tight end. We really need someone like that. I think its a good move.

Why would we change to a 3-4 defense when our strenght are in our defensive linemen? Come on Raider Nation, some of your post is borderline stupid!
Oakland’s coaching staff must see something they like in Curry in order for them to trade for the guy. Only his 3rd year so I think it was too soon to give up on a guy. Seattle probably felt they invested too much money in a guy and not getting the production for their money. Coaching will be key for Curry at this point. Oakland needs to put him in a position to succeed and build his confidence.

And our inability to defend tight ends and running backs isn’t isolated to last week. The jets completed 17 catches for 250 yards to their rb’s and te’s when they played us. These are really bad numbers. I think having a quicker coverage linebacker can really improve our defense.

The Seahawks have a really nice fan blog, always plenty of info, this is some of the lastest stuff on Aaron Curry, prior to the trade:
Aparently, they have changed some stuff on Defense from last year and it has not benefited Curry’s game.
They feel Curry is very good playing near the line of scrimmage, getting off blocks and lining up over the TE.
Here it is:
“This scheme change has meant that Curry has been asked to run and drop back into pass coverage more and set the edge in run support on the strongside less.
Curry’s strength is on the latter – he’s a beast at breaking off blocks and matching up against tight ends but has trouble with his feel and instincts in zone pass coverage.
K.J. Wright’s main strengths are just that — he was heralded for his instincts and length in zone coverage coming out and that’s most likely why we’re seeing him get more snaps in the Seahawks changing defense.
- Per the Seahawks’ press conference on Wednesday, Pete Carroll noted about Aaron Curry,
“He’s really stout at the line of scrimmage, he’s really good on the tight end. He’s a brute of a guy when we play him on blockers, at getting off of blockers.
And that’s the stuff that he’s been the best at. He’s big and fast and he hits you. He’s got all that. He’s got a lot of talents.
We’ve moved him a round a little bit. If you’ve noticed, we’re not on the line of scrimmage as much as we’ve been in the past (with the Sam linebacker), and that doesn’t give him the opportunity to do some of those special things.
But he understands the scheme and knows what’s going on and he’s going to battle his way back.”
Curry struggled to adapt to the NFL game after being considered by many to be the ’safest’ pick in the Draft that year out of Wake Forest.
There aren’t many people out there that didn’t applaud the pick at the time but as it goes, hindsight is 20-20.
His critics would point out that he lacks instincts in the zone and is a step slow in coverage ability but he’s proven to be strong against the run and on holding the edge against tight ends.
The Seahawks have moved away from the ‘under’ front they used a lot last year, with Curry up on the line of scrimmage and acting as a force on the strongside edge.
This season, the Hawks are featuring more looks with the linebackers back off the line and playing in space, and it appears that Curry really didn’t have a place on this team.”

True that never helps, but i recall the Jets game where Wimbley had coverage on a Te and when the ball was thrown Wimbley was spinning in circles…nearly costing us that game.
After that play the coaches made sure NEVER to have Kam in coverage EVER again haha

27 Matt Giordano
36 Ron Parker(PS)
41 Manase Tonga(PS)
28 Joe Porter
Possibly to IR:
82 Richard Gordon
77 Matt Shaughnessy(Please God no)
Gotta pick 2.
——————————–
I cant see Shaughnessy being IRed unless his injury necessitates it. We’ll want him in the playoffs. Unless Reece is expected to practice later this week, Tonga has at least another week on the roster.
We are getting healthy again at DB. We can afford to cut two. I’d add Boyd to the bubble list but the likely cuts are Parker and Giordano. Also a slim chance of cutting Ausberry or Hagan IMO.

Very, very interesting trade. Not so much because Curry is coming, which is great!, more so because of what it means. Someone with clout in the Org. saw what we saw: we have DEs playing LB positions. It was Al’s dream to succesfully convert one of these combine freaks into an OLB, much to the chagrin of the team.
Hmmmm. What to do with Wimbley now? Cut Trevor Scott and move Wimbley to his natural DE position? We need help at DE, Shaughnessy will be out a while.

Curry, McClain, Burfict in 2012
Vontaze is an animal and I would love to see him in a Raider uniform. If Curry can come around and become an effective OLB, McClain improves and the Burfict. Wow, son…Start getting the rings ready
October 12th, 2011 at 4:55 pm
We need run stopping LB’s, and someone to shed blocks and make tackles. Curry needs to learn the middle, prefereably alongside McClain. While DL is the strength of hte front seven, look at the age, Seymour, Henderson, and Kelly is not that young. A multiple front approach, mixing 3-4 looks with 4-3, with Wimbley rushing is good. He is not a OLB, but he doesn’t stack and shed OT’s either. He is an edge rusher, period, and should be brought in on passing downs.
October 12th, 2011 at 4:55 pm
Great job by the Raiders to not overpay for a guy.

I called it the minute I heard Curry was on the block. Obvious Davis move that Jackson hinted at in a previous post about how Davis and him had already planned stuff prior to the trade deadline and for this season in terms of player acquisitions.
Good pick up. This is the kind of athleticism we need at LB. We just need McClain to become a thumper, or find a thumper to put at MLB and move McClain to Sam backer.
