Versus airing behind-the-scenes look at Raiders-Texans

By Steve Corkran
Wednesday, October 12th, 2011 at 11:17 pm in Oakland Raiders.

An item that appeared in a post earlier Wednesday misrepresented what Versus is showing from the Raiders-Texans game Thursday night.
The good folk at Versus television are featuring a behind-the-scenes look at the Raiders-Texans game Thursday at 7 and 10 p.m. PDT on “Turning Point.”
As an added bonus, Versus was kind enough to provide a sneak peek for you to look at beforehand. Here is the link, with a huge thank you to Versus for providing the advance clip. Enjoy:

  6. Hagar the Horrible Says:

Interesting next few days at Raiders camp. Hopefully, we see a few more players being involved in practice who have not been practicing because of injuries.

Hopefully, we see a new focused Curry who feels that he has been traded to the best team in the league where he can find his spot to be productive and where he can live up to his pre-draft expectations. We have that history, more so than any other team in bringing those type players to our enviroment where magic can happen.

Hopefully, the practice sessions this week will be focused correctly on the best ways to exploit Cleveland’s weaknesses, while remembering in the back of the “nooks and crannies” of the brain that the potential to go 6 – 2 over the next four weeks are more than real, but almost absolute. Yes, very obtainable, especially with the by week before we play the chiefs at our home santuary.

Ya, that’s jumping the gun and too far off into the future, but then maybe not. Good to think of the positive after so many years of struggles. Last years 8 – 8 got us to the summit. Now it’s time to scale the mountain…and we will.

Good nite Raiders fans. Have a great tomorrow and the day after, and the day after that, etc. etc.

666, did you know the Raiders are the second least profitable team in football? So do enlighten me as to how Amy Trask is “successful”.
    =========================================

    STFU. That’s how.

    *******************
    LOL! exactly!

  8. rob_raider Says:

the curry trade is a good one. low risk-high reward. looks like he’ll help run defense at SLB, and nimbly will play more DE, w/ shaughnessy out. he may not have fulfilled expectations in seattle, but he is undoubtedly better than any street free agent out there, and he could do at least as well as moss has. question is w/ curry and pryor coming aboard, who will be let go?

i think murphy could be traded. i think myers could be in danger. tonga has to stay for now. so does parker. i would say giordano but he’s been playing a lot. maybe t.scott.

anyway, great job Al! u taught ur people well. they made a nice trade just the way u would have.

    suck it sullivan!

  9. Sullivan44 Says:

lol. 666 tries to act all smart and talk about Trask being successful. I point out that she’s not, considering she’s the CEO of what is the second worst franchise in the NFL financially. Now 666 feels stupid. That’s all this is.

  10. Sullivan44 Says:

I’m pretty sure the whole league was after Curry and we’re lucky to get him. smh…

  11. Sullivan44 Says:

Somebody’s still making Al Davis like decisions. I know it’s not Hue. I know it’s not Mark Davis. Know it’s not Carol. That pretty much leaves one person. Fire her, Mark. And let’s make the Raiders a franchise that competes in January again, not just September and October.

  12. rob_raider Says:

oh sullivan. ur just a shell of ur former self. amy trask doesn’t make personnel decisions. it has been stated that hue and mark will make them for now. u know, the boss and his coach. hue is the one that mentioned the trade deadline in his presser. good trade, too. al would have liked it. possibly al davis’ ghost is doing it.

poor sullivan. the villain died, and things are still going on exactly the same. who to blame now? i know, amy trask! lol!

perhaps w/ al gone, u can relax and just enjoy all of the things he put into place that are making for a winning season.

    great job al!

  13. GG Says:

Sullivan wont ever be happy until the Raiders were red and gold, and are run by the Yorks.

  18. Carl Weathers Says:

How have we made room for Pryor, who’s spot will Curry take?

I really hope Shaugnessy isn’t headed to IR.

  19. La Milicia Negra Says:

    Morning fellas

  20. GG Says:

We have a week amnesty for Pryor. The Curry trade isn’t actually official yet. So for the moment, we don’t need to make any cuts for Curry, and we’ll have till next Tuesday to make a cut for Pyror.

I.e., we can carry 54 till next Tuesday. We have 54 currently, so once Curry comes here, we’ll have to cut/IR someone to stay on 54. Then next Tuesday have to get down to 53.

  21. Plunketthead Says:

  22. hwnrdr Says:

    Good Morning Nation!
Amy Trask has been going out into the community, attending owners meetings because Al couldn’t do it anymore (and now…)…she’s been seen at games talking to fans of all teams, she’s got the staff to sell tickets during the lockout (how many were successful, I don’t know)…Lay off Trask…Raiders are on their way back…and have been prior to Al’s passing!
    RIP Al, we got this!

  23. GG Says:

Sullivan wants the Raiders to become absorbed into the corporate NFL, become another one of the 32 teams, not be their own unique thing. He is an enemy of the Raiders heritage, identity, and all who personified/personify it and who sweated blood on and off the field fighting for the unique identity.

  24. Carl Weathers Says:

Thanks GG. So who do ya’s think gets the axe in favor of Curry? It’s gotta be one of Parker, Porter or Boyd unless they IR someone.

  25. hwnrdr Says:

Good question CW…also have to think if the trading has stopped. I read last Sunday that Hue stuck his hands in on the D and wants to fix it (as much as we all do) and Chuck B said that we have the personnel here to make it happen…Hmmmm….Who has more power here…???

  26. Carl Weathers Says:

Why do you people respond to this sullivan clown? Better yet, why even read his posts?

  27. Carl Weathers Says:

If CJ gets IR’ed I think we’re making a trade for a CB. This is team can make a run but doing it with only rookies on one side of the field is asking alot, need a vet backup/starter.

  28. hwnrdr Says:

MR will be MR…I see he’s still stuck on firing Amy Trask…not sure where he gets all this from…

  29. hwnrdr Says:

I agree CW! But I heard CJ was back at practice. I hope Sho Nasty’s injury isn’t as bad as we hope…but a vet DB back there…why did we cut Lito again?

  30. Carl Weathers Says:

Rashean Mathis anyone? Jags are going nowher fast and he is a UFA after the season.

  31. DIRT-LOT FOOTBALL Says:

    Have a great day Nation!

    Raiders 31- Bruns 13

  33. hwnrdr Says:

Mathis is good and he hasn’t been injured since 2009…he possibly could work out!

  34. Raiderbuck Says:

Trask has kept us afloat inspite of all those losing seasons. Just another way to look at it.

  35. GG Says:

Carl Weathers, your guess is as good as mine about who will be cut/IR’d to make room for Curry and Pryor.

    I’ll guess it’ll be someone on offense. We’re carrying too many TE’s, RB’s, WR’s.

  36. hwnrdr Says:

You have to love Amy Trask…
“I’m aware of the perception [of Raiders fans], and I don’t believe the perception is the reality,” Trask said. “Stereotypes are insidious. It’s so simple to stereotype Raiders fans. It’s an easy story. If you are hearing frustration coming through in my voice it’s because there’s frustration in my voice.”

  40. Twocents Says:

    From NFLDraftScouts.com:
Compares To: DERRICK JOHNSON, Kansas City — Like the Chiefs finally realized with Johnson, hopefully the NFL team that drafts Curry will do likewise and play him in the middle. He has very good athleticism making plays in front of him, but bites often on play-action, lacks good depth playing in the zone and is a bit too stiff to generate the sideline-to-sideline range to make impact plays on the outside, where he struggles to stop the runner’s forward momentum. He can clog the rush lanes when he stays low in his pads. Put him inside in a 3-4 alignment and he can be equally productive getting to the quarterback as he did in college. Play him on the outside and he will be exposed in a quick and deep passing game.

  41. Chris in NY Says:

So I recorded ESPN’s Monday morning “First Take” show. I figured since its 2 hours and they often have a lot of interviews they might have some good Al Davis coverage and some interesting interviews.

    Wrong.

They spent maybe 2 minutes on Al Davis. It was an interesting 2 minutes including comments from former Raiders FB Jon Ritchie (a member of the show), but 2 minutes nonetheless.

Then, when they gave another 2 minutes to the Texans-Raiders game, there was no respect for the Raiders or the signifigance of the game. The angle of the coverage was entirely ‘Does Matt Schaub bite?’ WTF?

You’ll be happy to know that 48 hours after the passing of NFL luminary Al Davis they did spend about 45 minutes talking about the 1-4 Denver Broncos (Tebow) and another 45 minutes talking about the 1-4 Philadelphia Eagles.

    Pffffft. That’s ESPN for you.

  42. hwnrdr Says:

So with the coming of Curry and what McClain used to play in ‘Bama…do you see a 3-4 shift coming? Someone posted earlier of Wauffle and Spagnolo winning the SuperBowl with a 4-3…do you think Wauffle can be successful with a 3-4 given that our line is our biggest asset on D?

  43. hwnrdr Says:

  48. SilverNBlackPA Says:

    Mornin’ a.m. crew.

I’m done advocating for a switch to the 3-4 because I’m sick of being shouted down. I will say, though, that RoMac and AC would make a great, great 3-4 ILB tandem.

THAT SAID…we’re a 4-3 team for now and that doesn’t look to be changing any time soon.

But Curry is still a great pickup if for no other reason than his run defense. Even the people that don’t like Curry acknowledge this kid can stuff the run. What’s been our Achilles heel for years and years? That’s right.

Charlie Casserly said on his Twitter I believe that you let Curry play up against the run for 2 downs then turn him loose to rush on 3rd, he’ll be a valuable asset.

yes, he’s bad in pass defense, but let’s face it…was Wimbley really that good?

To me–and I imagine Al would think this way too–it’s incumbent upon Chucky B to tweak his scheme to take advantage of Curry’s natural talents rather than trying to force him into a role he doesn’t fit. If that means assigning Branch to cover the TE more often, then so be it.

What do we always say? Stuff the run, win the game. Curry helps do that.

  49. LTR Says:

Anyone know if Curry is under contract for next year?

  50. hwnrdr Says:

Not sure about that one…I read somewhere that they are reworking his contract…we’ll see…if he comes up big for us, you never know! PA was right…Chuck B has to play to his strengths, and not out of position, in which we have been doing for so long!

    +++++++++++++++++

The trade will happen, I’m sure. The Seahawks don’t want Curry and the Raiders do, so both teams will do what they have to so the league office is satisfied.

That said, any delay means Curry probably won’t be able to play Sunday except maybe on ST, which sucks. The NFL needs to step off. Guys rework their contracts all the damn time. Don’t see the big deal.

The Browns offensive line is actually playing fairly well, very well on the left side. They just don’t seem to have the horses on offense. Alex Mack most likely will go at center in this one. Peyton Hillis is a good player, so is Colt MC Coy but again neither is a great player. I think we are going to see Greg Little’s first start or if not a start he should get in a pretty good chunk of playing time. Little is the big receiver we have been talking about in here for a while. The Raiders secondary cannot let Little get on track by breaking tackles. Looks like the major matchup on this one is the Raiders defensive line against the Brown Offensive line. Gotta like the Raiders chances there.
    ————————————————
No, not really. The right side of the line is completely makeshift, a train wreck. Doubt Mack plays at all. Key to this game is Raiders forcing McCoy to throw by stopping the run. And avoiding mistakes.

  77. GG Says:

The only thing the Browns pose a problem to us is the play-action. We got killed in the first half by it by Houston, and the Browns rely on it a lot.

  78. hwnrdr Says:

GG…I hope they watch fil on that and do a better job of it! Houston looked like they were going to run away with it in the first half…but I did like that they came out with good adjustments after…

  79. No Mas Diamante Says:

Qodrn – Please remove sullivan and any other trolls from the list. They do not deserve to participate in or enjoy any extra cirricular activities on here like the regulars. it’s insulting.

  80. zopi Says:

I believe the Curry trade was something Mr. Davis was working on, as well as bringing Trevor Pryce, who was not signed. Coach last player move.

Curry just might play up to his potential, who knows. Sounds like another one of those Coach Davis hunches of bringing “high potential” players who didn’t pan out with their original teams. I remember Curry as the Butkus Award winner being highly touted by draft gurus, could it be that Curry did not mesh with Pete Carroll’s system? Or, is Curry just another college player that can’t play up to NFL standards?

If Curry plays the SAM, who sits? Quintin Groves? or Does Curry play the weak side? Is Curry taking over Shaughnessy position? I hope that ShoNasty is not out for a long time. Wherever he plays, this move can only give added depth to the LB corps.

  81. Just Fire Baby Says:

My uncle has 3 season tickets on Mt. Davis, around sec 352 I think, about the 20 yard line of the Black Hole end zone. When his son moved, I used one of them for about 5 years (99-03).

I always liked it up there. For those afternoon games though, you would get sunburned on one side of your face, lol.

Can definately see the safety bite on the play-action and things like that.

But when it comes to fumbles and short-yardage calls, you just have to go off player reaction because you can’t see from up there.

  82. SilverNBlackPA Says:

    ++++++++++++++

Curry was viewed as the draft’s “sure thing”…proving that there are no such things. His difficulty in transitioning to the NFL game has been surprising. That said, it’s pretty much agreed Carroll’s defensive scheme doesn’t fit him at all.

My current theory is that Shaughnessy goes to IR, Wimbley becomes starting RDE and Curry becomes the strongside ‘backer.

  83. Just Fire Baby Says:

If Curry trade goes through, Parker is likely to get axed, or maybe Tonga back to PS if Reece is healthy.

Don’t think they will move anyone to IR, if they were thinking of doing so anyways, until next week when the Pryor exemption is waived.

  84. Just Fire Baby Says:

Seeing Curry shlepped off for just a 7th rounder, not even halfway through his 3rd year, tells me that they not only wanted him off the field, they wanted him out of the lockerroom.

I hope that he takes this fresh start into consideration…meaning, I hope he doesn’t become cancer…but my hunch tells me that he won’t…

I was worried that there would be a let down after a highly emotional and amped out Texans’ game. But, being at home with a full house, and with a host of former players and coaches in the house to paid tribute, I can’t see the Raiders letting down on this one. The Browns do come in rested after the bye week, two weeks to prepare for the Raiders and they do have a solid run game and can exploit with play action and screens.

Only way the Browns can win, is if we blow it on special teams and turnover margin.

I don’t care who you have “yelling on this blog” to start. Fact is that 11 players play on the field it does not matter if Hendu does his job 10 other players still have to do theirs

Take it to the film….this is not the only game that Henderson played this year

“I WIN you LOSE” that was hella corny LOL

    ********************************

Hella corny? I guess the truth is corny. You would rather have an exciting lie.

Hendu had one bad game but has played very well vs the run this year. The Run defense is super garbage without Hendu just from a fundamental standpoint. Seymour taking on doubles or Kelly taking on doubles is a joke and you know it…if you dont then you dont know football at all. You think you can just throw any 11 guys out on defense? You gotta have guys conducive to your scheme you moron.

First off, for those in hear screaming for Tonga!….stop…he did nothing last game and it’s obvious our run game hasn’t been up to par since the loss of Reece. Secondly, as far as Rolando McClain, it pains me to say it but I’m just not that confident that he is the man for the job. I hardly see him diagnose a play and hit the runner for a loss in the backfield, too often he gets burned in coverage because he’s too slow, last game against the texans, on their last drive they threw a screen and picked up a ton of yards because McClain couldn’t shed one block…..cmon man! And stop saying he gets the rest of the defense in the right position before the snap because the last time I checked we are near the bottom of the league, if not last, in plays for 20+ yards allowed, and that doesn’t happen unless there’s miscommunication going on with the defenders. I don’t know…I didn’t wanna throw you under the bus or anything Ro, and I’m not saying it’s all your fault, but gosh damn the 8th overall pick in the draft needs to start making plays!

First off niner 415 you dont know a fking thing about football.

Texans sold out to stop the run. 6-7 guys will never block 8 you imbecilic Nancy boy.

Dumb our run game had its best game as soon as Reece got hurt early vs the Jets so shut up you liar. Pats game DMAC had 14 carries for 75 yards before he got hurt. He was well on his way to another 100 yard effort. Did you not see Buffalo game where the run game didnt really go off and Bills stuff alot of runs? Reece was awful that game…what was your excuse then dumbass?

And on DMAC best runs Tonga was smashing the LBs…what game did you watch you punk? It was his first live real game since 2009. You understand that? no you dont cuz you are a mental midget pansy who disgraces this blog with your lack of football acumen

This was in large part due to DAvis’s scholarship players, like Campbell.

Funny. If you read this as if it was a review of McClain instead of Curry, it sounds pretty much spot on. Except for the part about even considering him an OLB.

Florio’s take: The first home game since the passing of Al Davis won’t go well for the team that faces the Raiders, whoever that team may be. Sorry, Cleveland. The wave of emotion may not carry the Raiders through the next 11 games, but it will at least get them through the next one.

    Florio’s pick: Raiders 28, Browns 18.

Rosenthal’s take: The Raiders host the Browns, Chiefs, and Broncos the next three weeks. The old Raiders would find a way to blow one or two of those games. Cleveland’s underrated pass rush could pose a problem, but I think this Raiders team is too consistent to lose to a bad team at home. Don’t let me down, Raider Nation.

Credit has to be given to AL (R.I.P.) and our scouting teams as we picked up some real players. I was worried about McFadden, especially during the turf-toe period, but it’s been worth waiting for his productivity to

    Friday, November 6th, 2009
The two sides were working on a contract extension in 2001. Even when Gruden’s agent, Bob LaMonte, was making his return sound dire, Allen, an important middle man in the Davis-Gruden alliance, always thought a deal would get done.

Very late in the season, Gruden thought he had a deal. The extension was for three years, averaging around $3 million per season. In it, Gruden had control of the 53-man roster and the ability to pick his own coaching staff. He was fine with Davis running the draft and free agency, where he would have input but not the final say. But his two main issues were picking his own team, and picking his own coaches.

When Gruden and LaMonte met at a restaurant not far from the club facility and opened the envelope containing the contract, the provisions regarding control of the 53-man roster and picking the coaches had been removed. Much of the money had been pushed to the last season

Newton spins a hell of a spiral. We BOTH saw Pryor throwing it before the Saints preseason game and thought, “really, that’s his throwing motion”.

Pryor compares more to Tebow, IMO. Tim’s stronger, Pryor faster, both played a ton in college, both funky throwing motions, both need to learn to throw more, run less at this level.

Cam is not as good of a runner as I would have thought. I think he realized this early (props to him for doing so) and is really doing all this stuff, within the offense.

Lots of injuries and substitutions because of those injuries are probably the cause of the break down, but that kind of think has to be fixed now. We were lucky.

Also, in seeing the replay of the final play, it occurs to me how fortunate we were that the pass was actually intercepted, not simply incomplete because on some screens the unofficial time left said one second.

Had the pass been batted down or hit the ground, I wonder if the officials would have replayed it to see if indeed one second did remain and the Texans would have had another shot. (We are also lucky their team was slow to line up because actually Shaub could have squeezed two plays into that time frame.)

Now that the Raiders are on the rise, and Al is gone, maybe she will perform better on the financial side of things.

And regarding Trask and Gruden, I just remember Jerry posting that Trask wanted Bellichick hired, not Gruden, but Al went with the offensive guy per usual. I have never seen anything written about Trask being involved in Gruden’s departure. I think you are grasping at straws.

    MaddenRaider,

Dude, Al is gone less than a week and you have already targeted Amy Trask as your next obsession?

Can’t you at least see how things shake out with the management before you latch on to someone else?

Something to think about regarding Trask anyhow is the fact that Al had driven this team so far down that no one could have made money from ticket sales etc while Al was putting THAT bad of a product on the field.
