Terrelle Pryor Q&A
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Friday, October 14th, 2011 at 10:13 pm in Oakland Raiders.
Raiders quarterback Terrelle Pryor talked to the local media for the first time since coming off his five-game suspension and joining his team at practice
Here’s a transcription:
Q: Your thoughts on joining team?
Pryor: It’s all a new process for me, really. Trying to get used to the speed and stuff like that and the plays called and just getting used to being with my teammates again.
Q: Feel good to be on the field again, though?
Pryor: Yeah, without a doubt, I get to do the thing that I love and go out there with my teammates and contribute and practice and help as much as I can. And however I can get involved, I’m back at it from that standpoint. I enjoy that kind of thing and I enjoy playing the game that I love so getting back out there is a big blessing.
Q: What did you get accomplished in your five weeks off?
Pryor: Coach wanted me to do the drops the way he wanted, so I got that done. I was training by myself; I had a personal quarterback trainer for five weeks. And I really wanted to get the verbiage down a little more and I’m getting a lot better at it. Pretty much, that’s it, and getting the plays, obviously, just keep studying the plays. So I was getting the plays down and also doing footwork and mechanics-stuff as well. Doing the verbiage and calling the plays out, that was quite different too.
Q: Is it easier for you knowing that Hue Jackson has said you’re a quarterback and not have to worry about any other positions?
Pryor: I mean, I knew what I was going to be. I mean, that’s for people that go around, I guess, thinking that they know what they’re talking about. But it is what it is. I knew what i was going to be. I’m just trying to get it down so if something were to happen, I could help my team continue on the path they’re at.
Q: Jason Campbell said you’re quiet but you speak out at meetings and asked you if you were the new QB consultant. How comfortable are you in speaking out and being part of the team?
Pryor: I’m comfortable. Guys are pretty welcoming here. We have a lot of fun here. As you see, I know you guys are always in the locker room hearing guys always joking and stuff like that, and I’m a very friendly guy so I can get involved with my teammates and have them like me because that’s just the way I am and, I don’t know, I just like to fit in as well as I can and they made it pretty easy for me so, to answer your question, when I’m in there with Jason and Kyle (Boller) and Coach (Al) Saunders, I’m pretty comfortable because I feel like I know what I’m talking about. If I wasn’t very comfortable in talking about what I thought, or knew, I wouldn’t say it. But I feel like I’m confident and comfortable with it to feel like I can just spit it out and say what I feel. And they respect me for that.
Q: What did your conversations with Al Davis these past five weeks mean to you as you were waiting to get back on the field?
Pryor: He pretty much, just with how passionate he was about the game, he just kept on telling me, Just win. And then the last time I talked to him, maybe like two weeks ago, maybe a little longer, maybe two-and-a-half weeks ago, he just said, ‘Wait your turn.’ And he said, ‘Just win, baby.’ He said that quite a few times. So just from talking to him, I just got how passionate and it just re-emphasizes just how passionate he is about football. How passionate you need to be to be successful. I feel like I learned that and I picked that up from him.
Q: You go up to his office, or he call you when you spoke?
Pryor: He would always call me on the phone. I actually never met him in person.
Q: He give you quarterback tips, what you should work on?
Pryor: Nah, pretty much every time I talked to him he told me, ‘Be patient, be patient’ and that he believed in me, obviously I’m here, and also just be passionate about the sport and he just kept on saying, ‘Win.’ He was telling the tricks that you get to win — working hard and things like that and just being a part of the team and he was just pretty much breaking things down to how to win. His phrase, he said that quite a few times, every time I’d get on the phone with him. So that was good to hear. It was cool just to have a guy like that that’s a player’s person like that, an owner like that. It just amazed me.

God speed, Mr. Pryor.

I was stoked when we picked him up.
Maybe when he is 32 and going to his 7 or 8 probowl he will be playing with a ball like this:

He’ll be starting by the end of this year.
I just watched @Hou again. The only two things Campbell did right the entire game was the two TD passes. You can’t just rely on the big play. And, both instances were YAC. Campbell picked up a rush on both of those plays and I commend him for that. But the rest of the game, he was just godawful.

Sounds like the kid has a bit of a chip on his shoulder. That could be a good thing if he follows the lead of Brady and Rodgers… The idea that we could develop him over the next 3 years or so (in the same system) is a hard concept to grasp. Davis remarks to him about “being patient” may have been his marching orders to Hue.

RoMac is NOT slow just based on his combine time he’s playing slow this year and I and everyone else have criticised him for it but that kid can run for a guy that big. the same is true Groves and Wimbley. RoMac has made several big plays in the passing game this year. But as far as the run he just seems like he’s jogging all the time. Why I cannot tell you but he can run that is a fact. He timed very well at teh combine as did Wimbley and Curry without a doubt can run. RoMac’s effort has pissed me off often this year tho.
************************
I can forgive a lot, especially for a second year athlete. This year it appears that RoMac was regressing. What he could do to help us get over his shortcomings is to blow some people up every now & then just to remind us why we picked him. Hopefully the addition of Curry will benefit both of them. I fully believe Curry will thrive here because he will be doing what he does best – search & destroy. I want our LB’s to send a message – “cross this line and get your a$$ kicked big time”. “Wanna get blown-up, c’mon down, we’ll help you out”. Our LB’s should be our enforcers – handing out some pain here & there. We are well on our way of getting where HuJack wants this team to be – fearless & ferocious. Romac, Curry & Wimbley need to form an unbreakable bond to be the best we can be. Our front 7 is going to be be a formidable force once they all get on the same page. They will be unstoppable.
Oh Yes, put me down for:

I hope Pryor is what he appears to be. Humble and hungry to learn. I was sick to my stomach with Jacracky Russel and his antics. Campbell is in that group of quarterbacks that I call play-action Qbs such as Mark Snachez. Campbell needs a great run game to allow him to complete passes using play-action. If the Raiders have to rely on Cambell’s arm solely to win the game then the defense better come up with some great plays to keep us in the game as they did against the Texans.
Raiders:31
Brown: 17
October 15th, 2011 at 12:12 am
The sooner Pryor gets the playbook down and is competent in the huddle, at the LOS, doing all the pre-snap reads and adjustments, he will become Oakland’s starter.
October 15th, 2011 at 12:15 am
Campbell was needed post-Russell, he also knew he was auditioning for a long-term role, but so far he hasn’t really grasped the job as his for keeps, he has too many up and down moments, and isn’t aggressive and confident enough of a passer. I like Campbell a lot, for what he brings, and helping the team thru that transition period post-Russell. Just don’t think he’s a long-term solution.

Your comments on Jason are stupid. Are you trying to tell us that the fact that, even if he’s having on off game and makes big plays that win the game, he sucks? That is the most retarded thing I’ve ever heard.
Ever heard of Kenny Stabler? Or Jim Plunkett?
You should pick another team to follow if you expect perfectionistic play. The Raiders have always been a team that lines up and goes after you. Some times it doesn’t work, but we’ve always had the players who made big clutch plays for the win….JUST WIN BABY …remember?
Maybe you should find a team who’s slogan is….”Just Execute Baby!”.

Aaron Curry will be fine, I think it’s more of Pete Carroll wanting “his guys” on the field. Carroll didn’t draft Aaron Curry so he probably doesn’t feel that obligated to start him. Kinda how he brought in Tavaris Jackson making him “his guy” so he didn’t need Hasselback anymore,(how’s that working out). In a month we’ll be adding Curry to the list alongside Wimbley and Moss, of those who were late bloomers and became studs after their arrival in Raider Nation. Thanks Seattle! Tell Tom Cable, Robert Gallery, and Zach Miller we said what up!

Dead right in about 10 hours or so.Guess Hue will have him on a short leash.Talk about two opposing visions.
October 15th, 2011 at 5:51 am
The good thing about that article too btw, he unintentionally/accidentally touched on exactly why Curry might succeed in Oakland, when he said…
“There’s a lot to remember in the way of alignments, coverages, and blitzes. Then you throw in the myriad of personnel of packages you see from NFL offenses: motion, shifts and audibles. It becomes obvious to you right away that NFL coaches have way too much time on their hands. So naturally you’re thinking rather than turning it loose and it’s bound to affect your performance. ”
That’s exactly what Hue Jackson said he’s gonna do. Just take away all the thinking etc. Just “do this”. Taking it from there, bit by bit.
October 15th, 2011 at 6:07 am
Good point! It kinda bummed out my high tho….guess I’ll

October 15th, 2011 at 6:13 am
We can only wait and see, as you said.
Btw, I read this on rotoworld…
“Through five starts, Groves had 19 tackles, no sacks, and a forced fumble. Pro Football Focus has graded Groves as one of the Raiders’ better run defenders, so it’s surprising that they’d move so quickly to fast-track a player acquired via trade four days before the game.”
October 15th, 2011 at 6:35 am
2010 I think he had more tackles than any of our LB’s
with 73 … 2 FF’s …and 3.5 sacks.
Also think that overly much is made of starting.
Hardly anyone plays every down any more.Plus a 7th and
a conditional and $375 large is NFL pennies…gotta be worth a shot.
October 15th, 2011 at 6:41 am
Curry has great ability but doesn’t react well.
Sounds like RoMac.
One question….has anyone asked Hue why we lead the league in blown coverages?

i don’t necessarily think curry will ever live up to being the #4 pick, but obviously he has a ton of talent, and not just in a one-dimensional way. he was thought to be a sure thing. so getting a guy like that 2 years after he was drafted for what we paid is a pretty good gamble. if he ends up being just pretty good, he will be worth it. and we’ll just have to assume hue likes what he sees. and he was a starter, so it’s not like he totally sucks. he just apparently isn’t one of pete carroll’s guys. but i’m not really sure pate carroll knows what he’s doing at this level. he had fantastic recruits at usc, but left when it got hot there. he had several choices for qb and ditched hasselbeck for tarvaris? we let him take 2 good-but-not great injury prone players from us that he overpaid. for hue to start him this quickly, when groves had not been horrible, and he’s not an injury emergency replacement, must mean something.
October 15th, 2011 at 7:46 am
I think Curry will fit the Raiders defensive scheme better than he did with Seattles. Sounds like he really wants to be here and prove himself to all the people who wrote him off. The vid of his interview is much better than the transcript.

Coach Davis knew ex-coach cable was a brick.
ex-coach cable did not meet the succession plan criterion, which is the real reason why he was run.
Coach Davis needed someone with whom he could impart his wisdom and knowledge. One whom would have humility, passion, energy, and truth.
The time Coach Jackson spent with Coach Davis was really to impart and pour into Coach Jackson true football wisdom and knowledge.
Coach Davis passed the torch to Coach Jackson successfully….

From Rotoworld:
Browns CB Dimitri Patterson is expected rotate between left cornerback and the slot in Joe Haden’s likely absence against the Raiders on Sunday.
The Cleveland Plain-Dealer expects Patterson to fill-in for Haden on running downs, but to man his usual nickel spot on passing downs, covering the slot receiver. That would leave rookie Buster Skrine to cover Denarius Moore on passing downs. It’s a plus matchup for Oakland’s rookie wideout, and a concern for Cleveland’s usually stout pass defense.
Denarius Moore, back in the spotlight on Sunday!

Talk about a guy being as happy as a “June bride,” Arron Curry is beeming with life and happiness during his media interview with the raiders.
We all know that sometimes there just isn’t a proper fit. I’ve experienced it at work with two different companies doing the same work. At one you excell, you’re productive and the people around you all fit and everything flows, while at another everything is wrong…from you boss to your co-workers to the companies way of doing business. That could have been what Curry experienced, especially with the added pressure of being a #4 first round pick.
Don’t totally judge Curry on his play Sunday, please give the dude a few weeks to fit in and find his groove. He’ll be showing who he really is, capability wise, by the time we play the dischargers.
Also, with Eric Barton coming down to help walk his brother through the Raiders loops … that’s a plus as well.

priesttj Says:
October 14th, 2011 at 8:39 pm
They will be unstoppable.
anhdazman Says:
October 15th, 2011 at 12:27 am
McClain is still young with a bunch of talent. We just need to be patient and continue to surround him with good players. The light will come on. You got to let the players have at least 3 years to truly evaluate.
But, with that said, I am surprise how he does get caught up in traffic, more often than not. In Training camp, our coaches says he looked great and blowing up people. Didn’t he put Taiwan Jones out for 2 games? Therefore, he should be quicker than OLinemen, and stronger than RBs, TEs, and WRs. I’ve seen WRs take him out of plays. This shouldn’t happen.
What McClain needs is more attitude at MLB. Get pissed. Get mad. And get a little crazy!!!
Hagar the Horrible Says:
October 15th, 2011 at 12:43 am
Anhdazman…post 337:
You’re so right about the attitude, the hate and the passion, and that’s what Rolando lacks big time. Especially at his position, you need a crazy, take no prisoners attitude where you convey to the opponents that you’re out to hurt and destroy.
All the great LB’s, especially middle, had that anger and hatred for their opponents. McClain is out there passing out lolly pops and daisys, he’s too laid back.
Hagar the Horrible Says:
October 15th, 2011 at 12:50 am
Romanowski wasn’t a great outside linebacker, but he was feared because he played with hate. All week long he would focus on who his opponents were going to be…and he would hate them…and hate them. Come game time, Romo was out to hurt and destroy and that’s what made him better than he was, and that’s what allowed him to play those extra years. Ya, he basically had a long career for that position, but it was more so for his attitude. I loved when he would gouge an eye-ball or spit in their face or rip out a nut-sack.
Ya, Rolando, you need some attitude and hate.
Hagar the Horrible Says:
October 15th, 2011 at 12:59 am
Come to think of it, I doubt if Rolando will ever change, you are what you are and that’s not him. He’s too laid back, too calm and collective.
Like Seymour said before our Texans game to the other players: “Some people want to be good but I want to be great,” etc etc.
Rolando may end up being good because of his size and hard work, but he’ll never be great. Not at a linebacker position. To be great at linebacker, you need an attitude, you need hate and you need the desire and will to inflict pain, big time pain to all opponents. Take no freaking prisoners, just destroy!
October 15th, 2011 at 10:21 am
That’s wild that Curry and Eric Barton are brothers. Could it just be coincidence that Barton was our last great tackling LB?
Thanks for posting the predictions Qodrn!

I think it’s safe to say that other factors are contributing to the winning, like a defense that kept us in last week’s game, and McFadden.
Campbell’s rating this year so far is 84.3. I don’t know if that qualifies as “pretty well”.

Gradkowki’s rating this year is 96.5.
October 15th, 2011 at 10:27 am
Looking for some “search and destroy” from Curry tomorrow. Chances are he’ll blow an assignment or two being thrown in so soon but some tackles for loss and general disruption of plays in his direction should more than make up for this.
October 15th, 2011 at 10:28 am

Hue getting a better office now, perhaps?
“In 1976, Sochor, early in his head coaching career at UC Davis, was offered the running backs coach’s gig by the Raiders’ John Madden. The two have known each other since they were San Francisco teens in the 1950s.
“John showed me the Raiders’ coaching offices – cold with no windows,” Sochor recalled this week. “It was a meat locker. The Raiders didn’t want coaches falling asleep. My office in Davis was warm, overlooked the pool.”

Don’t get ahead of yourself. This team has a long way to go. Our starting QB is awful 90% of the time, and has needed breakaway running plays and a defense to save him in every win this year. We have a chance to be a wild card team, but it’s going to be a tall mountain to climb with Campbell.
October 15th, 2011 at 11:10 am
Fortunately, DMAC is the heart of this offense – Not J-Camp.
October 15th, 2011 at 11:13 am
Anybody catch that “top 10 Raiders” show on NFLN?
Funny how they crammed 12 players into the top 10.
October 15th, 2011 at 11:13 am
BigTed, Campbell’s pisspore play is a handicap. It’s not a matter of who’s the heart of the offense. It’s a matter of who’s holding it back. We really made a mistake letting Gradkowski go. We’d be one of the best teams in football right now with him starting.
October 15th, 2011 at 11:17 am
I disagree about Grads.
J-Camp beat Grads straight up last year by going 6-0 in the AFC West (1st ever QB to do that).
J-Camp earned his spot fair and square imo.
October 15th, 2011 at 11:18 am
J-Camp has played well enough to be 4-1 this year. That Buffalo Loss was not his fault.
October 15th, 2011 at 11:22 am
Don’t worry BigTed, the streak started last week. Raiders will treat the brownies like a rented mule and leave them with their tail between their legs.
October 15th, 2011 at 11:23 am
Better yet, they are going to abuse this team like a red headed step child named sullivan.
October 15th, 2011 at 11:25 am
Watch and weep this sunday fellas.. hue-jack is on my bad side by keeping the rock away from mcfadden, and i dont see it changing this weekend. joe haden is doubtful sunday, so i guarentee hue-jack will call upon heyward-bey’s number at least 10 times.. that will probably equal up to 5 or 6 catches for around 70-95 yds and maybe a td.. give the ball to mcfadden 25 times instead of the 15 he’s been getting the past couple weeks, and you get 155 yds and possibly 2-3 tds.. those extra 10 touches for mcfadden are critical to his success, especially against this beat-up browns team. we NEED mcfadden to get 25 touches this sunday or its gonna be another ugly win instead of a blowout!!
October 15th, 2011 at 11:30 am
i just cant see how you take away touches from a BEAST in mcfadden, it doesnt make sense.. if im the head coach and i know i have mcfadden AND bush, im running the ball 35-40 times a game. 25 for mcfadden and 15 for bush to finish off the second half. we are looking at the absolute best one – two punch in the nfl, but yet we throw the ball 35 times and only get 17 completions? why, why, why?!? c’mon hue-jack, get yo $hit together!!!!
October 15th, 2011 at 11:31 am
Fun fact:
Gradkowki’s rating this year is 96.5.
********************************************************
Another “fun fact”:
Bruce Gradkowski is backing up a rookie QB from TCU. This tells us one of two things; either he was brought in to start until Andy Dalton was ready to go but was beaten out for the job by the rookie, or the Bengals never considered him to be starter material to begin with.
Bottom line is, he’s sitting on the bench behind a rookie. If he was anything other than a journeyman backup that wouldn’t be the case.
October 15th, 2011 at 11:33 am
why do you retards even bring up that POS’s name in here? gradkowski is nothing more than brett favre in a kickers body.. he sucks b@lls!

It baffles me too, especially when you see him ripping off 20 and 40 yard runs routinely on carries 16-20, he wears the defense down, and his speed in the open field is deflating for a tired defense that’s been getting hit by an aggressive oline and punished by a 220 pound freight train…hopefully hue gets back to giving him the ball..the screen game has also disappeared the last two weeks, which he’s also lethal in

I am very very proud to have Terrelle Pryor in the Silver and Black. I am thrilled, Pryor is our future QB. In my opinion, Pryor is just as strong, accurate and dominate as C. Newton. Pryor is highly intelligent and Mr. Coach Allen Davis made a phenomenal choice signing the young Lad. Thank you Mr. Davis. Great interview….Thank you Jerry. Good looking out. Just Win Baby!

Hue Jack did not take the rock away from DMC. If you noticed, teams are stacking the box big time on the Raiders.
Vs. NE we fell behind with turnovers and had to throw more to attempt to catch up. Texans basically stacked the box and stopped our run game (until Wiz got up in center for a series) – still Hue didn’t abandon the run.
I think you are seeing it the wrong way. DMC will get another 15+ carries or so for 150yds vs the Brownies. I would love for DHB to have another stud game but it’ll only be OK unless we score like 40pts.

That is an opinion, and it means nothing.
Bruce Gradkowski is a backup. Jason Campbell is a starter, and the team that he starts for let Gradkowski go to another team without making him an offer to stay.
Those are facts, and they mean quite a bit.
October 15th, 2011 at 11:50 am
Edward, name one team other than us interested in Campbell when we traded for him.
October 15th, 2011 at 11:51 am
Yep. You guys are definitely looking at this through the wrong lens. Hue flat out said DMC is the best football playa on the team. Do you honestly see Hue taking the ball AWAY from him??
What I saw was Hue/Saunders finding new ways to get him the ball. With the Texans stacking the box and stopping our run game, they sent DMC out wide on WR patterns – prob the most I’ve seen him run all year.
NE was just a game that got away from us due to bad defense and turnovers. When you get that far behind in the count you have to start throwing it.
October 15th, 2011 at 11:51 am
I can’t. I’m not part of the NFL and have no idea who may or may not have inquired about his services.

——————————————————-I notice the box is stacked with 8 man fronts, but it’s been that way for the last 3 years, even before Dmc proved durable and strung together very good games…by comparisons sake, we also stacked the box vs houston, foster still got the ball on 25 carries. while we hung on for the win, they didn’t change their identity. as a running team, to finish with 20 total carries is a little mystifing, I would just like to see more commitment to it, unless JC happens to be on fire for a game or so

Thats just the game of the NFL. Teams will find a way to stop something and you must adjust. Texans stopped our run game which meant our WRs and Campbell had to step up and show them we can be just as dangerous in the air. DHB did just that. Now they have to worry about that too.
Now teams will likely go back to trying to play us a little more balanced vs stacking the box (although I expect them to lean towards stacking the box more as our best playa is a RB and Camp has been a little inconsistent back there).

You conveniently missed the second sentence. I said that I couldn’t name a team that was also interested in Campbell because I don’t have access to that kind of information.
Neither do you, so your claim that he wouldn’t be in the league if he didn’t play for the Raiders is completely groundless and without a shred of proof to back it up.
The difference is, I admit that I don’t know the answer to the question. You present your opinion as fact, which it is not.

Heard on the NFL Network this morning that Campbell is in the top 5 of QBs if you compile all his numbers.
Just sayin’.
October 15th, 2011 at 12:08 pm
Texans 25 run plays
Raiders 22 run plays
Foster 22 carries
DMC 16 carries
Overall, we have have ran the ball less because the run game was effectively going no where; but we did not abandon the run as you all are suggesting. The above does not even count the long run called back due to some BS call. So say 17 carries. I think you all get the point.

Watching this Baylor – A & M game, and I see these great stats for RG III, but he reminds me the most of Ty Detmer.
Way too small, tons of tiny short passes (I have counted 4 3rd downs when he threw 2 yard passes and didn’t get the first) and he is great between the 20’s, and failing in the red zone.
2nd or 3rd round pick, and may get Brad Smith’d.
October 15th, 2011 at 12:15 pm

I just watched @Hou again. The only two things Campbell did right the entire game was the two TD passes. You can’t just rely on the big play. And, both instances were YAC. Campbell picked up a rush on both of those plays and I commend him for that. But the rest of the game, he was just godawful.
::::::::::
He did few other things correct, but I agree his play is holding us back. It is not killing us, but it is turning a Raider assault team into a pedestrian squad.
He will be replaced soon.

October 15th, 2011 at 12:19 pm
I think Camp can get us into the playoffs for sure and win a game or two. Winning the SB would be iffy but doable. His team, particularly the defense, would have to play lights out.
October 15th, 2011 at 12:20 pm
I say abandon run in the sense we are a running team, yes they called back two nice runs on bogus calls, but looking at the game..you realize Dmc was stuck on a total of 8 carries until midway through the 3rd q when they fed him on what was probably the game swinging drive…8 carries in two and a half quarters is abandoning the run for a good stretch of the game. I’ll take the W any day of the week, but personal taste is a greater commitment to the run, I just don’t trust JC with the ball more than our rbs lol
October 15th, 2011 at 12:23 pm
SB is doable with JC in my opinion.
October 15th, 2011 at 12:25 pm
cushing was not allowing running in his house until we switched to wiz when satele went down, and we brought in Tonga… Also of note that was a very tough D, not like denver, buffalo, or NE…
October 15th, 2011 at 12:25 pm
Interesting that they asked RG III what his dream athletic moment would be.
Play in the NFL? Nope
Pitch in the big leagues? Nope
Run the 4 X 400 hurdles in the Olympics, lol.
Sounds like Al’s type of guy!!!
October 15th, 2011 at 12:26 pm
I’d have to see JC improve his accuracy on tight throws in small windows before being confident he could lead us to a SB. Maybe he needs a dominant wr, but I just don’t see it with him at this point
October 15th, 2011 at 12:28 pm
Ed Teach, I just asked you to name one team interested in Campbell other than us. You said you can’t, and went on to say that such information isn’t available to you. I would offer that such information isn’t available because none exists. Nobody wanted Campbell other than us. And if a team had, I’m pretty sure that at least one of the millions of internet sports sites, including sites and blogs that specialize in rumors, would have come across it.
October 15th, 2011 at 12:28 pm
RGIII may not go in the first round however, he will play on sunday… He has poise, and accuracy…
22 TD’s and 2 ints including todays game…
October 15th, 2011 at 12:36 pm
Sully and I went to high school together. We were bffs. I kind of lost touch with him when my mom moved to Albuquerque.
October 15th, 2011 at 12:40 pm
RG III definately needs to stay in school another year and get bigger.
They may list him as 6′2 215, but he gets bounced like a rag-doll on contact.
October 15th, 2011 at 12:42 pm
Campbell plays like a white QB. If he had a little more “brother” in him, I think he would take more chances down field.
October 15th, 2011 at 12:42 pm
RGIII may need to get bigger however, his game translates to playing on sunday….
October 15th, 2011 at 12:43 pm
But dude is really smart, and a great kid, so I wish him well (unless he lands in the AFC West) , especially since he will probably wear the red, white and blue in the Olympics one day.
He just looks like and plays like one of those Ty Detmer type mass-stat acculumators, but does not translate to the NFL.
We shall see.
October 15th, 2011 at 12:44 pm
TerrapinRaider…post 172:
You’re exactly right about McFadden and his touches per game. Hue has to play to what he can take. If they stack the line, he needs to get the passing game going. Especially with our arsenal of receivers. We have a great passing core, all of them able to get open: Ford, Schilens, Murphy, Boss, DHB and Moore. Come on, give me a freaking break. When they stack the box, Campbell has to complete the passes…period and that will open up more touches by McFadden.
Leave the freaking long bombs for the 3rd and 4th drives. Keep the patterns short and simple so that they can’t stack the box without getting killed in the air. With our offense, with balanced play calling, we should be able to score 30 plus per game.
October 15th, 2011 at 12:45 pm
I’m not sure if his game translates as much Thec.
He must have thrown at least 12 WR screens today.
Their offense looks just like all those Texas Tech offenses, and none of those QB’s even sniffed the NFL.
I think he will be more Pat White (mid 2nd rounder) than Cam Newton.
October 15th, 2011 at 12:47 pm
Ty Detmer wish he was RGIII…Mass acumilator of stats…Wow….Look at his ball and accuracy…
He rarely if ever misses on the long balls…
Has a good throwing motion, and has good pocket awareness…Very solid footwork…
I like his throws better than JC….
You are right we will see, if he stays another year he will go first round…
What did you think of Ryan Tannehill?
October 15th, 2011 at 12:48 pm

Sooner or later if only out of luck, Soup completes a bomb. Have to keep trying, to clear out underneath and make short passes work. Rt now he sucks at da bomb. He will get better or be replaced if he starts losing games for us. That’s what Jackson will do.

Is this your first game watching him?
**************************
For the most part, seen bits and pieces, prior.
Tannenhill looked OK, but he is not elite. I would take RG III over him.
Just don’t like seeing a team have a 3rd and 8, and throw 1 yard passes, CONSISTANTLY.
If RG III is a true 1st rounder, than that type of stuff is holding him back.
I like Aaron Murray from Georgia in the 2013 draft class.
October 15th, 2011 at 1:19 pm
Interesting note from that game.
Texas A & M has played 6 games, and in 3 of those games (including today) the opposing teams QB set a team all-time record in passing yards.
Aggies are on pace to have the worst passing defense in collegiate history.
And yet, I think they are 5-1.

I’m afraid they beat us on that deal. I’m predicting a bright future for Sterling Moore. I really would have preferred that we had kept him. He going to be a very good CB. He’s one that got away.

October 15th, 2011 at 2:55 pm
I’m hoping that Curry comes out on this initial assignment as a Raider and really does well. A sack or two would be nice along with stuffing every run attempt. I’d like to see him blowing some runners up. Maybe if Romac can see how it’s done, he might get back to doing what we originally picked him to do – be a dominating MIKE MLB. That means blowing up the competition. We need our LB’s to be all they can be to the Nth degree. We have the possibility of having the biggest, fastest & most devastating LB group in the NFL. They just need to play to their ability – all at the same time.
October 15th, 2011 at 2:55 pm
255. I like S. Moore too. Must be some kind of knock against him but seems like a real instinctual play making kind of CB
October 15th, 2011 at 2:56 pm
And, Sterling Moore beign promoted to the active roster of NE doesn’t supprise me much. He was a player in the camp and preseason. Stupid that we let him go for this RB that won’t amount to nothing.

Two things against Sterling Moore. He does not have “Raider speed” and he had trouble staying healthy in college. I wish him well.

Well I think we would all agree that HuJack is not a dummy. He’s also very football knowledgeable. If he says Curry starts at WLB, it means 1 of 2 things: Either Curry is the real deal and he can get it done or QGroves is that bad. I guess it could e somewhere in between too. Curry has the tools if put in a position to play to his strengths. I believe Seattle may have just outsmarted themselves by having a system that’s just too complicated and subject to failure.
All we need Curry to do is see ball, see ball carrier, destroy ball carrier, get ball. That he can do.
October 15th, 2011 at 3:12 pm
We have a chance for a perfect Sunday. The weather should be beautiful.
All we need is for the Raiders to dominate both sides of the ball, score a bunch of points and have Curry play like he did in college. Not impossible.

Like the ever astute Jerry McD so aptly pointed out, Oakland has a way of playing down to the competition in recent years and letting down big after a big game.
We’ll see if they can play the same disciplined, fundamentally sound run defense two weeks in a row.
I’d love it if Curry had the game of his life and was the catalyst for a Raider Championship.
October 15th, 2011 at 3:35 pm
270-so if a defensive player gets knocked off his feet,he isn’t allowed to make a play on a QB.What a bunch of BS.I guess he has to watch as the QB walks right past him.
October 15th, 2011 at 3:38 pm
There is something about this team that is different from years past. We’ve had two good drafts and we have Hue. We are thin in a few places, so injuries could do us in.
Right now we have a good chance to win every week, that is good enough for me.
October 15th, 2011 at 3:39 pm

October 15th, 2011 at 3:43 pm
Lefty
I totally agree. Seymour was already on the ground when he stretched out to wrap up Schaub’s legs. The reason contact was made below the knees was that was as high as he could go given he was already laid out. The was simply a bad call an now we have a bad fine based on a bad call. He should appeal this one.
October 15th, 2011 at 3:55 pm
It is a stupid rule, but it was one they put in a few years ago because they were crying because of Brady getting his leg broke and being out for the year. According to the rule, if a defensive player is knocked to the ground, even if they are at the qb’s feet like Seymour was, he is suppose to get back up onto his feet before going after the qb. I agree that it is a stupid rule, but it is the rule. Seymour should have been a little more aware and tried to get his hands under him and try to spring up and the qb’s waste.

I can’t tell you how excited I am about seeing our defense tomorrow with Curry added to our LB corps.
Groves was certainly getting better, but let’s be real here, he was a fast DE playing LB. I hope he gets into the DE rotation on passing downs.
I wonder if we’ll see the WLB role changed up a little bit? Groves was in coverage a lot. Is that really what they have in mind for Curry? I hope they blitz the heck outta him fromthe blindside of the QB.

how soon we forget. one of my favorite qb’s of all times is jim plunkett. his game wasnt pretty. but he got the job. i agree with the late al davis(r.i.p.) jason campbells game is similar to jp. jc has the right temperment for this relatively young offense.this is the first time in his career, i believe, that he has the same coordinator in back-to-back years going back to his days at auburn. jc will be fine as the season goes. but the focus surely must be on penalties because otherwise the raiders could have at least 4 wins. dont sleep on campbell and dont sleep on the raiders. pryor will be just fine as a raider. dont be surprised if he is in on a few plays against the browns…build a bully!

Tonga started a little slow last week, but he came on strong in the 2nd. half… Blew up Cushing on a coulple of D-Mac runs..
If, Reese is limited or DNP tomorrow, I look for Tonga to build off what he started..
Browns MLB, meet Mr. Tonga.. Kersplatt…

On the Sullivan hater side of things, I’m waiting for him to point at ULE’s score-predictor tally and say “scoreboard.”
According to that, he knows the team better than everyone else.

909,
a few of us saw some real blocking potential from Tonga in pre-season and stated that we wouldn’t miss Reece much if he didn’t play as much as last year.
Too many weapons to get excited about passes to Reece this year, while ignoring his subpar blocking.
