Where’s Tim, Bo, Marcus!
October 16th, 2011 at 10:24 am
Today is going to be special. It will be like when Julius Caesar was assassinated:
Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears;
I come to bury Caesar, not to praise him.
The evil that men do lives after them;
The good is oft interred with their bones;
So let it be with Caesar. The noble Brutus
Hath told you Caesar was ambitious:
If it were so, it was a grievous fault,
And grievously hath Caesar answer’d it.
Here, under leave of Brutus and the rest -
For Brutus is an honourable man;
So are they all, all honourable men -
Come I to speak in Caesar’s funeral.
He was my friend, faithful and just to me:
But Brutus says he was ambitious;
And Brutus is an honourable man.
He hath brought many captives home to Rome
Whose ransoms did the general coffers fill:
Did this in Caesar seem ambitious?
When that the poor have cried, Caesar hath wept:
Ambition should be made of sterner stuff:
Yet Brutus says he was ambitious;
And Brutus is an honourable man.
You all did see that on the Lupercal
I thrice presented him a kingly crown,
Which he did thrice refuse: was this ambition?
Yet Brutus says he was ambitious;
And, sure, he is an honourable man.
I speak not to disprove what Brutus spoke,
But here I am to speak what I do know.
You all did love him once, not without cause:
What cause withholds you then, to mourn for him?
O judgment! thou art fled to brutish beasts,
And men have lost their reason. Bear with me;
My heart is in the coffin there with Caesar,
And I must pause till it come back to me.

It’s nice that all those guys will be there today, but legends? A little hyperbolic don’t you think?
October 16th, 2011 at 10:27 am
Anthony Dorsett is certainly no legend.
October 16th, 2011 at 10:28 am
Anthony dorsett not legendary but at least he is there to honor the man
October 16th, 2011 at 10:28 am
Jamurcus should get his fat butt to the Coliseum today. Davis subsidized the rest of his life.

“No one in NFL history was able to express their personality on a football field quite the way Al Davis did. His teams were tough, rowdy, mean, and they threw long. They always led the league in penalties. Always. The Raiders teams of his imagination were a collection of cast-offs, outcasts, speedsters, rebels and various menaces to society. It’s amazing how often he was able to bring his imagination to the football field.”
-Joe Posnanski on Al Davis
See you guys in the Coliseum.

No, but he was pretty dammed good. If he didn’t retire early, he would have been.

It’s gonna be amazing today….the nation is out and about on the 880!!!!!
October 16th, 2011 at 10:40 am
Will there be a death tape is the question
October 16th, 2011 at 10:42 am
Well I wasn’t talking about “what if” scenarios. Kaufman scored 17 TDs in six seasons. Not exactly the stuff of legends IMO.
He was entertaining, though. And he had ridiculously huge arms. It’s a wonder he ever fumbled.
October 16th, 2011 at 10:46 am
Kaufman was a freak of nature…ran a 4.2, benched over400 lbs…not many athletes can say or do that.
October 16th, 2011 at 10:48 am
JR77…ya where is the Snake, among a few others. Hope they have a good reason. Today is the day to show up, not tomorrow, but today. Actually after breakfast.
October 16th, 2011 at 10:51 am
Hagar, today is the day there are no excuses, I don’t care if these guys are in bangkok, or if they are possessed, they need to get to o.co yesterday
October 16th, 2011 at 10:52 am
Obviously, Tom Flores is also there but he’ll be up in the booth.
October 16th, 2011 at 10:54 am
I don’t care if they despised Al, if they have a voodoo doll of Al with needles in it, if Anthony dorsett can make it there, certainly everyone else who is worth mentioning can.

JR…that’s so right…no freaking excuse. You need to be where you need to be…just like Al was always there for them and their families. Everyday, I hear a new story about Al assuring some ex-Raider that he was only a phone call away, and the money in his wallet, if needed, was there at hand. Doesn’t get any bigger than that = Loyalty and a True Friend.
October 16th, 2011 at 11:29 am
There should be more ex-Raiders there, the Snake, Howie Long if he could, Bo, even Marcus, ’cause good or bad, there was history there, Todd Christensen, Art Shell, etc… Love, like and respect are three different things
October 16th, 2011 at 11:39 am
Also, how will the new guys appreciate the historic place the Raiders have in football history unless the old-timers show up?
