Campbell having surgery, hopes to return

Share

Raiders quarterback Jason Campbell is scheduled for surgery Monday on his broken right clavicle but hopes to return this season.

Campbell, leaving the facility with his right arm in a sling, stopped for a moment to break the news.

“I’m having surgery today. It was a tough break,’’ Campbell said. “I’m going to stay positive. If everything goes right I could be back in six weeks.’’

That would make the best-case scenario having Campbell return for the Sunday, Nov. 27 game against the Chicago Bears. They visit the Miami Dolphins the following week on Dec. 4.

In the meantime, the Raiders will go forward with Kyle Boller as the starter. At present, the only backup on the roster is Terrelle Pryor, scheduled to come off the exempt list Monday.

According to ESPN, the Raiders have reached out to both David Garrard and Josh McCown. A Yahoo.com story said the Raiders were also interested in Cincinnati’s Carson Palmer, who is property of the Cincinnati Bengals.

Cincinnati has been adamant about not trading Palmer, and is dealing from a position of strength with a 4-2 record behind quarterback Andy Dalton.

The Raiders must release a player to accommodate Pryor, and although no move has been announced, cornerback Joe Porter was cleaning out his locker and said he was “moving on.’’

You guys realize that I was kidding about Collins, correct?

Hence the double question mark, feigned excitement.

AIG, ok, I’ll take your word for it. My buddy at the job is a 9er junkie and he’s been going on and on about his improvement. I know his numbers are really good right now.

  • JohnnyRaider

Bummer to have JC go down, hope he does recover, but do not see how his throwing arm will be back to normal in 6 weeks time. Whom ever is our QB, he must step up and our defense really needs to step up and put the heat on. No more prevent defense, damn near cost us the game. Curry should get alot more playing time, he was doing great out there. If true that Porter is gone that is a huge plus for us, next one to go should be Boyd, he can not cover nor can he tackle.

  • RaiderRockstar

He can come in, act all snotty, then say he’s “hurt” the minute it becomes obvious we’re not just handing him the starting job. Pass.

    ***

    Duck,

none of that is true. They told Jeff that he could compete for the starting job. Then when he signed the contract they announced a week later “JaMarcus is our starting QB”. So he requested his release and got it. JR was benched before midseason and Brittle Bruce won over the hearts of many – including MR & JFB

Look into Bulger if not Edwards

  • YoungAmerican

Again, you CAN’T count on running the ball effectively week-in, week-out, especially against elite defenses. You need a QB who knows how to take care of the ball, and can make plays with his arm when he needs to. Even Campbell was somewhat questionable in this department. Can’t expect to win (especially not in the playoffs) with an inaccurate QB with even worse awareness than Campbell who turns the ball over at an alarming rate.

I’m sure we’ll see a lot of deep balls from Boller.

Our WRs will get a great view of them as they sail 15 yards over their heads and incomplete.

Honestly, has anyone here actually seen Boller play before? Remind me of all the Donks fans who are insisting Tebow will be great because….well, just because!

Didn’t DHB get most of his catches with Boller yesterday.Mistic is correct,Boller never has had the weapons to work with that he has here.Boller isn’t Brady or Brees, but neither was JC.If there hadn’t have been a penalty on the long pass to Chaz, and if they would have made the proper call by reversing the incomplete call,Boller’s stats would have been better than JCs yesterday. We aren’t in the doomsday state many of you want to believe.

  • We will get just as far with Boller as we would with JaSoup, not very

  • There really are not any qbs out there with man balls. Favre maybe. He would have to hand the ball off a lot but his man balls are too old.

  • We should sign Garcia. His wife is hot. She can sit in the stands next to Boller’s wife.

Was JC lighting it up out there? No. The Niners are 5-1 with Alex Smith. We’d be fine even with that dummy Jawalrus playing QB for us. You dont need much when you have a top 5 running game and top back in the NFL.
    *********************
Wrong. Almost any defense can stuff the run if here is no threat of a pass completion. If another team really max loads the box, our running game will be minimized. we need a legitimate passing game in order to keep the opponents out of loading the box.

JC was completing a high percentage of his passes. It forced the opposing defenses to limit 8 in the box sets. That’s what opened our running game.

Our QB needs to be a legitimate passing threat in order to win games.

    on second thought …

Jeff Garcia went 3-5 with the Omaha Nighthawks

    played 8 games. Went 132/255 (51.8 comp %) for 1321 yards, 9 TD’s and 11 INT’s

    plus he’s 41 years old

  • inonewordraider

No Garrard and no way in hell I trade a 1 or 2 for Palmer who looked like schit when he last played. Can’t remember how Favre did last year but if he sucked the whole year then trade for Orton now!

  • aig-raiders

    LA,

Alex Smith’s QB rating is good but you look up his yds and contribution to points on the board you’d be shocked. They won one game with Ted Ginn returning 2 for tds. They won yesterday with defense, Ted Ginn, Gore and their top 5 D have been carrying that team. All they ask of Alex is dont turn the ball over.

I mean don’t we have to cut someone today anyway?

Week 16, 2010. Cincinnati Bengals v. the San Diego Chargers. Carson Palmer, 16/21, 269 yards, 4 TDs to no-name receivers:
