Report: Raiders close to getting Palmer
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Tuesday, October 18th, 2011 at 7:17 am in Oakland Raiders.
The Raiders are nearing agreement on a deal to acquire Carson Palmer from the Cincinnati Bengals in exchange for a first-round draft pick and a conditional draft pick, according to Jay Glazer of Fox Sports.
Palmer refused to play with the Bengals this season, sitting out rather than collect $11.5 million in salary. Jackson has a relationship with Palmer in that he was a wide receivers coach in Cincinnati the last time the Bengals went to the playoffs. The Raiders would be on the hook for $7.44 of Palmer’s remaining salary, considerably more than the $4.1 million Jason Campbell will make over the entire season.
The Twitter update doesn’t say if the first-round pick is from the 2012 draft. The Raiders have dealt away much of that draft, although they are due compensatory picks for lost free agents and can still trade existing players for more draft picks.

Can someone tell me at what time the trade window actually closes today.

I’m with you Dakota. Can you imagine how good Palmer will be in this offense, with unselfish wide receivers and the top rushing attack in football?! Geeked doesn’t even describe it.

If Palmer can return to his form before his knee got mangled we could be looking at a SB appearance.
October 18th, 2011 at 7:24 am
We will have time to negotiate the contract after the trade is consumated. Nothing will be final until Palmer undergoes a physical, the trade just has to be filed with league offices by 4pm easter.

Gave up 1st Round in 2012 and a sliding pick in 2013 that could end up being another #1
October 18th, 2011 at 7:25 am
Big Big mistake. Palmer known to have periodic elbow problems. Better to give a late draft pick for Clausen who has a better upside. Little or no draft picks next year could kill us for the foreseeable future. I hope Mark will listen to someone with a management type football background before he lets Hue pull the trigger on this deal.
October 18th, 2011 at 7:26 am

“Raiders pushing Hard for Palmer”
ring ring
Mike Brown: Hello?
Hue: Coach Brown! Its Hue Jackson! How are you doing these days?
Brown: Pretty good, the team has been profitable.
Hue: Well that’s good to hear! Hey, I guess you probably heard that we lost Jason Campbell yesterday.
Brown: Is he that race car driver that died?
Hue: No no no, he is our quarter back!
Brown: Who’s quarterback?
Hue: The Raiders’ quarterback obviously.
Brown: The Raiders? I thought you were with the Ravens.
Hue: No, I am the head coach of the Raiders now.
Brown: Oh, I didn’t know that, well congratulations. Now what is it that you need?
Hue: Well, obviously we have an injured quarterback, and obviously you have a pretty good young quarterback now, and obviously you no longer need Carson Palmer, because obviously you are going in the right direction with Dalton, and we obviously could use a new quarterback now that Campbell is hurt, so I think we have an obvious win-win situation right in front of us. We’ll give you a first round pick for the rights to Carson Palmer. Obviously that will help your team and obviously us too!
Brown: Fuk Palmer. He can rot at home much like how Al let Marcus rot on the bench. Don’t fuk with us great owners! How is Al these days anyhow. Haven’t heard from him in a while.
Hue: Coach Brown, Al passed away a week ago.
Brown: Oh that is too bad, tell him I am sorry to hear that the next time you see him okay?
Hue: Huh, okay. (Click)
8 hours later:
ring ring
Brown: Hello?
Hue: Coach Brown, it is Hue Jackson again.
Brown: What do you want now?
Hue: Obviously I am desperate here man! Obviously Kyle Boller is a crap quarterback and if this team crashes right now I am going to get fired! Man, come on, I’ll give you a first and a fifth and I will paint your house and obviously I will not show the media those pictures of you and Chuck Bresnahan in that obviously non-hetero steam room wrestling match that I happened to photograph a few years back. Obviously.
Brown: Done deal. Do you want us to pay a portion of his 2011 salary too?
Hue: Naaaaw Mike, I think this is a fair deal as is.
October 18th, 2011 at 7:28 am
This reminds me of the Jeff George debacle.
October 18th, 2011 at 7:29 am
Maybe Palmer agreed to show up at Cinnci, allowing Brown to trade him without loosing face? They probably would not want him there sitting on the bench when they have already moved forword with Dalton.

October 18th, 2011 at 7:33 am
The 2013 1st would be conditional… if he takes us to the Super Bowl 2 firsts is WELL worth it IMO
October 18th, 2011 at 7:33 am
I sure hope the Raiders have Palmer checked out medically. Steep price, but they can convert some of the salary to signing bonus to get under the cap. Bye Jason, it was nice knowing you. By the way, aho Herrera is the cap master.

Being pretty much without a draft next year would not be a good thing, but this team is young everywhere but defensive tackle. Hopefully the ones we have will still be good for another year, and we can alway get one in free agency.

Go Raiders!!!
SC FIGHT ON!!!
It’s a WRAP for the league. There is not one defense that can stop us. Not one. Our games just got that much more exciting. We ARE the team to beat now. I can not wait to watch this offense in a couple of weeks, once its in gear. We are going to flying all over the field, with a laser arming hitting our wide open WR’s. I feel like a little kid, Christmas morning. Beautiful.

I’m curious about this “conditional” first. I’d assume it has to do with stuff like playing time and maybe even winning a playoff game.

Hopefully Carson been staying in shape.
This looks good on paper but means we have like 2 compensatory 3rd round picks and a 6th in 2012. Maybe a 5th? Not sure anymore.
And possibly no 2013 first.
This is seriously mortgaging the future.
Extremely risky move. Hue does like to live on the edge, but this is cliffhanger sh;t.
October 18th, 2011 at 7:42 am
As much as I would like to have Palmer, I really don’t think he is worth a first round pick, and certainly not NEXT years 1st round pick..we would essentially have no draft picks if that was the case, and everyone knows that your organization survives on low cost talent to replace aging veterants.
Personally, I would rather keep our first round picks, and roll with Boller the rest of the season..Carson may be 31 in earth rotations around the sun, but he is about 41 in actual body age..Dude has been beat up, ain’t played or practiced since last year, and I can PROMISE you would get hurt this year too, then were out a first round pick, and back to where we started from with Boller..
Give Boller a Shot, we don’t need to pay for Carson Palmers future (shoulder, knee, ankle, wrist, ribs, concussion) medical bills.
October 18th, 2011 at 7:42 am
People really need to realize what happened here. Hue Jackson was able to game Mike Brown into this. I’m giving Hue 100% credit for this. We are the real deal and we have a GENIUS at headcoach/GM. Al picked his successor. Its Hue Jackson.

I know we just lost Al in all but they are gambling alot of the future house. I don’t see this team being a SUperbowl team yet, so why gamble future draft picks now? How many do we have left for crying out loud.

With the exception of Seymour and a couple other guys, this team is still really young but good enough to win with a franchise QB. The future is now is HueJax’s position it seems.
Look at it this way…we’ve already got most of our 2012 draft now: Barksdale, Jones (came out of the 2012 2nd rounder), Pryor (2012 3rd rounder), Campbell we’ve had (2012 4th rounder), Curry (2012 7th rounder) and now Palmer (2012 1st rounder)
None of those guys are old and 3 of them are rookies.

Palmer’s play picked up noticeably last year when Ochocinco and TO were both out of the lineup.

If it was me I would keep my first round pick. Palmer is not worth a first round pick.
Plus, we have no idea if Pryor is our QB of the future. What do we do if Palmer is OK. Do we sign him agian next year and Campbell? How are we going to pay Palmer more than Campbell. Also, isnt Palmer a free agent next year?
October 18th, 2011 at 7:47 am
Two other observations:
1) Fare thee well, Jason Campbell. You seem like a solid guy and I hope you get a fair shake elsewhere
2) Pryor had better start learning the WR position.
October 18th, 2011 at 7:48 am

October 18th, 2011 at 7:49 am
I read that TO and Ocho being lazy and not running routes is why Palmer somewhat struggled in 2010. (26 TDs & 20 ints). He still completed 60+% of his passes the last two years and threw for 47 TDs.
This will really open up our offense.

Palmer is definitely not worth a first rounder.
Also, Campbells career as a Raider is over.

F-that. Not Hue’s style. Not the Raiders’ style.
Besides, why not this year?
- Best RB rotation in the NFL (DMC, Bush, Taiwan): Check
- Copious speed and playmakers at WR (Ford, DHB, Moore, Murphy): Check
- Two solid posession WRs and TE (Schilens, Hagan, Boss): Check
- A matchup nightmare FB (Reece): Check
- An offensive line that’s playing as good as any in the league right now: Check
- The best kicker in the league: Check
- The best punter in the league: Check
- One of the most dangerous return men in the league (Ford, 4 TDs in 22 games): Check
- One of the best, deepest front 4s in the league: Check
- A young LB corps that features three former 1st rounders, including two Butkus Award winners: Check
- A young talented secondary with a great playmaking safety in Michael Huff: Check
- A coach who’s creativity is surpassed only by the brassness of his balls: Check.
Face it. We’re legit contenders right now. It’s time to go all-in. This is an all-in move if I’ve ever seen one.

Why I don’t like this trade:
1. He’s a primadonna, who doesn’t play because they’re unhappy when we struggle day to day?
2. Looked like schit last year, no mobility
3. Gave up WAY too much
Why I like this trade:
1. We’re not getting into the playoffs with Boller, with Carson we have a good shot to win it all if he looks like the Carson of old
2. Luck Jones or Barkley weren’t gna be available when we pick
3. We’re pretty stacked/young so we don’t need many upgrades

Why I don’t like this trade:
1. He’s a primadonna, who doesn’t play because they’re unhappy when we struggle day to day?
++++++++++++
To be fair to Palmer, it went way beyond a tough season. Management had been consistently cheaping out for years while refusing to stop Ochocinco and TO from running their circus all over the team.

Um, don’t want to point it out, but Palmer wasn’t exactly good these passed couple of years. Dude was never the same after that knee injury and that was a while back now.
IF it’s true the the 2013 conditional pick is either a 2nd or 1st rounder too, then oy. Jackson sure did learn at the knee of Al Davis.

Wow, what a cut-throat business guys!
See ya Jason Campbell. Just like that, done as a Raider. Seemed like a quality guy. I feel bad for him. Lost his job to an injury. Certainly wasn’t the greatest QB, but certainly wasn’t horrible. Damn!

++++++++++++++++++++
Well, Pryor, if he turns into something, he might be worth some picks in the future (see Kolb and Schaub). if not, well, it was just Al’s last draft gamble. Campbell gave us a decent year and a half almost….not bad for the picks we gave up for him.
Palmer is a known commodity. This is not nearly the gamble spending the #1 overall pick was on Russell. Even if we just get above average QB play from Palmer our team will be much much better.
October 18th, 2011 at 7:56 am
In Hue I trust, in Hue the team trust, in Hue we all should trust! Living on the edge was always the Al Davis way…Boller better do one heck of a job this Sunday…because it will be Palmer time against Denver!
Whether I like it or not is irrelevant at this moment! I hope it pays out!

October 18th, 2011 at 7:56 am

Bush has no trade value, especially with the trade deadline today. If a contender had a glaring need then maybe, but he is a free agent at the end of the year, and while I don’t want to loose him, he wouldn’t be worth what it would cost to franchise him, especially with the deals that Chris Johnson and Adrian Peterson got. We will probably have to pay McFadden that kind of money when his contract comes up.

RaiderNation, I caution you that this deal is a long-term deal, and we may not reap all of the benefits this season.
Palmer will need time to adjust to the WRs and learn the playbook. Hopefully he can start after the bye week, but even then he will not be 100% of what he can be. I am sure he can give us much more than Campbell even if he is at 80% for the rest of this season, but next season will be the real deal.
Wow, I am excited.
October 18th, 2011 at 8:02 am
Like many of you said, the Raiders don’t need a lights-out QB. I don’t happen to agree, but as long as Carson Palmer can stand in the pocket long enough to deliver accurate passes to the Raider WRs? The Raiders will have something. Needs to stay healthy, though.

Why does everyone want to ship out Bush? If Mcfadden stays healthy for 12 games TJ is a great compliment back. But if Mcfadden is out for a game or which is very likely in this league we have no idea if TJ could take the pounding of 25 carries a game and he doesn’t have the build of a back that can. We’re stacked, let’s keep it that way

I love this move. I know a lot of people are going to say that we gave up to much for Palmer. But this years draft when the ESPN talking heads start up about how the Pats are the masters of draft think for a second about why they are saying that they are sucessful. They TRADE DOWN!. The Raiders are doing the same thing except they are getting established value for their #1 pick. Last years draft was a great example. The team got value with Wiz 2.0. And our #1 pick….Richard Seymour. This years draft will be the same. Our first round pick is Palmer and we can get value in our 2nd round pick(s. We are loaded with #1 picks. We have gamebreakers at every skill position. Outside of a shutdown corner we don’t need another #1 rookie. I think Coach Jackson is sending the team a message – OUR TIME IS NOW!

Since this move is so iffy, I’ll just sit back with the rest of the “fans” and love it if it works out and hate it if it doesn’t. Mostly though, it sure smacks of something I expect out of the Raiders.
Since I really do know squat about being a coach or evaluating players, falling back to the “fan” level is all I can do in times like this.
I still don’t like the implications for Campbell. It seemed he was turning into a solid QB.

2 first rounders for a 32 year old QB who had one good year n regressed the following years. TOO MUCH. This is over paying IMO. Even a first rounder is a lot, I would have liked if we went after Matt Flynn, Josh Johnson, Bulgar or even Shaun Hill who is free agent. Carson Palmer is not an elite QB to give up a first rounder, we overpaid and paniced in this move it will only hurts us in the future.

Pro’s of this trade: PLAYOFFS FO SHO, AND MAYBE SB, NO MORE JAJASON, NO NIGHTMARE SCENARIO WITH BOLLER / PRYOR
Con’s of this trade: NOBODY NOT EVEN PEYTON IS WORTH A FIRST & SECOND ROUNDER, ELBOW ISSUES, NOT A GAME MANAGER BUT A GUN SLINGER WITH 20 INT’s in 2010.
I Will take the GOOD with the BAD and start making reservations for a home PLAYOFF game.. JUST WIN BABY!!
October 18th, 2011 at 8:24 am
Looks like Jason Campbell has lost his job. Terrell Pryor is not in the cards. Two 1st round picks. I don’t like it on the surface. Carson Palmer has not looked like a 1st round pick, let alone 2

I think our D is coming along…for a long time, the D played not to lose and to protect a lead (in which we all know many times, yeah, that didn’t work)…imagine them playing with a lead and a darn good lead now! We all have to kick back in fan mode now…there is nothing we can do but wait to see the benefits, if any!

You don’t trade away your next two #1 draft picks for a bandaid. This could be a real disaster. I do not like the move.
Regardless, we have to get behind Palmer now and hope he reverses the trend we’ve had over the last decade with retread QBs.

Gee, the Campbell guys “don’t like this”. What a shock. That’s because Campbell will never start another game for the Oakland RAiders now.

Huff is one of the best safeties in the league, IMO. I would argue he may be the best after Polamalu, Reed and Landry.
October 18th, 2011 at 8:27 am
Ok here’s my take; I believe we gave up WAY too much for him,,I’m not feeling the way he quit on his boys so it makes me question him as a leader,, I believe he’s probably in some shape (I’m sure he’s been throwing), but I don’t know how fast he’s gona pick up the playbook.
That being said, I supported JaMarcus Russell,,I supported Bruce Gradkowski (though I wasn’t a big fan of’em) and I supported Jason Campbell,(sorry your Raider career ended the way it did), so I’ll definitely will ride with Carson Palmer. Time to go to work Carson,,don’t let us down.

Week Six power rankings
Posted by Mike Florio on October 18, 2011, 9:42 AM EDT
1. Packers (No. 1; 6-0): Brett Favre will be surprised at how long the cork stays in the champagne bottle of the ’72 Dolphins.
2. Ravens (No. 6; 4-1): They might be the only team that can beat the Pats in the playoffs, and that can stay within 20 of the Packers in the Super Bowl.
3. Patriots (No. 5; 5-1): It’s hard to tell whether the bigger indignity would be to cut Chad Ochocinco, or to keep him and not use him.
4. 49ers (No. 7; 5-1): “Hacksaw” Jim Harbaugh should dispense with the post-game handshake and go with a simple thumb’s up.
5. Lions (No. 3; 5-1): If Jim Schwartz ever gets fired by the Lions, Pete Carroll would surely hire him.
6. Raiders (No. 9; 4-2): The only thing that would make this story better is an instant impact from Terelle Pryor.
—————–
WOW! ranked 6!

Don’t forget that Palmer was stuck in the middle of a three ring circus the last few years in Cinci. Lots of blame to go around in that organization. If he still has it look out! We become possible Super Bowl contenders.
October 18th, 2011 at 8:29 am

Palmer could have another 5 good years in him and he’s under contract for three more seasons. Pryor could use time to develop and he may just be ready to take over at that point. We have young talent at almost every position. What’s not to like?

2 first rounders for a 32 year old QB who had one good year n regressed the following years. TOO MUCH. This is over paying IMO. Even a first rounder is a lot, I would have liked if we went after Matt Flynn, Josh Johnson, Bulgar or even Shaun Hill who is free agent. Carson Palmer is not an elite QB to give up a first rounder, we overpaid and paniced in this move it will only hurts us in the future.
Absolutely agree with this…we have given up totally too much if Superbowl is not the result afterwards…this was desperation by the organization, any of those above QB’s would not have cost us too much…check your pockets for your wallets because the Bengals have just robbed us!
October 18th, 2011 at 8:30 am
This will set us BACK at least FIVE years. Jackson and company are over the top. Palmer has NO ARM STRENGTH LEFT, NO MOBILITY plus he has to learn the playbook. THIS IS JUST LIKE THE JAY SCHROEDER TRADE BUT WORSE. YOU GUYS HAVE NO CLUE ON HOW TO BUILD A SUSTAINABLE WINNING TEAM.

One of the youngest teams in the NFL aren’t we? Our WRs, RBs, half our o-line, our DEs, LBers and Secondary are all very young I think.
I don’t like the idea of two first rounders, so I will be interested in seeing what the conditions are, but I really don’t think we need to get any younger. A solid QB for 5 seasons making us contenders for the playoffs will do more for us than any draft picks. How did our draft picks between 2000 and 2007 help us? Not nearly as much as an above average NFL QB will.
October 18th, 2011 at 8:31 am
I think this is a win-win.
An improving Cincinnati team with a fierce defense gets more picks to compete in a tough AFC North.
Raiders get the franchise QB they need to compete.
October 18th, 2011 at 8:31 am
I don’t like the deal. As I said, I would have rather trade for Matt Leinart, he has a better future than Carson who probably doesn’t have much left.

Palmer has been working out in Southern California with former Jets quarterback Ken O’Brien. Palmer also has a strong relationship with Raiders head coach Hue Jackson, with the two men having worked together in Cincinnati from 2004-2006, when Jackson was the Bengals’ receivers coach
Palmer was willing to restructure his contract, which would pay him $6.9 million for the balance of this season, sources said. The Raiders have about $6 million left under the cap.
They key is Hue knows Palmer’s strenghts and weaknesses, Palmer looks to be in shape and healthy plus he restructured his contract and 6.9 mil isnt that bad.

It cost Denver FOUR draft picks for Tebow, who by most accounts isn’t even an NFL caliber QB. Come on now
October 18th, 2011 at 8:35 am
@SilverNBlackPA, compare Bulgar’s career number to Palmer and look who is better, question is Palmer at this stage of his career worth a first round pick let alone two first rounders? Anyone would say he is worth maybe a third at best a second.
October 18th, 2011 at 8:36 am
Ok, a couple things. First, we absolutely overpaid for Palmer. I don’t think anyone can seriously dispute that. But the bottom line is that teams usually overpay for good players, whether it be with draft picks, or in contract price. Its ok to overpay for a really good player as long as they produce.
Second, we are still a run first team. Palmer isn’t going to change that. What we needed was a qb who is good enough to make a defense think twice before selling out on the run, and a qb who can take advantage when a d does sell out. Boller couldn’t do that. Palmer can. Our running backs are probably the ones happiest about this trade.
October 18th, 2011 at 8:36 am
Lowdown. I’ve been a Raider probably before you were conceived. You all have delusions of grandeur. Even if Palmer has any arm strength left (he doesn’t) even if he had a modicum of mobility (he doesn’t) he was never ever a WINNER. Loved the Curry trade, why not go after Clausen who has some upside? This is nuts and even AL would not have done this.

I know. Maybe on his death bed AL was mumbling to Hue go get Palmer, I want Palmer. He really meant I want to speak to Arnie before I leave this earth. This is not good people.
October 18th, 2011 at 8:43 am
If anyone cares, John Madden says Palmer is most likely the best available QB and was really very good. He says that to reach the playoffs, the Raiders needed a QB and with Campbell down, they had this limited window to grab someone. Madden also says the Raiders are a playoff caliber team this year, so it makes sense to keep the thing going at this point.
Palmer should have more a team here to work with, and Hue knows him. I am guessing we will see Boller on Sunday and then Palmer.
We really can’t use Lechler as the backup.

Don’t call it a comeback. I’ve been here for years.

Now we have a QB who can air it out when the run game falters. I thought Soup was playing pretty well but he had yet to show that he could take over a game when DMac or Bush were kept in check. We’ll be seeing the long ball completed now.
October 18th, 2011 at 8:44 am
This is INSANE!!!!
Giving up WAY TOO MUCH!!!!
Palmer was so severely outplayed by rookie Mark Sanchez at home in the post-season two years ago it was obvious he doesn’t have it anymore.
HUE IS SUCH A ROOKIE. TOTAL PANIC BUYING UNDERWAY IN OAKLAND!!!
October 18th, 2011 at 8:44 am
Loved Campbell. But any pass over 20 yards was basically a Hail Mary. Given the speed we have Campbell was never going be able to take advantage. He got lucky on the Denarius TD against Buffalo but name another time he hit one of our wideouts on a deep route. Once Palmer gets the timing down a whole new dimension to our offense becomes available. With the real possibility of a deep threat the safeties will have to drop back which just gives DMAC more open space. I hate to lose draft picks but this can really take our offense to a whole new level.
Kyle, welcome back to being one of the top back-up QBs in the league.
Forget the picks for now. Let’s get excited!!!

We did pay too much for him, but if he pans out this could be awesome!! Then we won’t be saying we paid too much for him. Just needs to see how it plays out!

Great move.
BTW how the fck do u refresh page with a iPhone?
Please enlighten
October 18th, 2011 at 8:45 am
What becomes of Pryor? Palmer is the guy for 6 years at least.
Cut boller! What good is a backup that can’t, well backup
October 18th, 2011 at 8:46 am
This is by far the worst move of the 2011 season.
1.) carson is a quitter. he bailed on his team in cinci and isnt a leader. Carson is a front runner, that is fine when everything goes his way, but dont look for him to be able to dig deep when the going gets rough. when the bungles needed him he folded up his tent, mailed in the box top, and left his team hanging.
2.) we are mortgaging the future against this flop of a qb, that hasnt done anything of note, and is already on the decline in his career.
3.) This seems reactionary, and not proactive. Carson isnt good enough to come in and take us to the super bowl this year. This team isnt super bowl ready quiet yet. So how does bringing him in and giving up draft picks make us better moving forward?
bad move, we should hand the keys to boller, and compete the best we can prepping for next year.
THIS SUCKS
October 18th, 2011 at 8:46 am
Carson turns 32 in December so stop trying to make him old. Only 2 years older than Campbell.

This is a great move your upset because of your man crush on JC.
What happened to your trust in Hue Jack?
I thought you were in lock step with Hue Jack?
October 18th, 2011 at 8:48 am
Common sense says Boller will start against KC, giving Palmer almost three weeks of practice time before starting. He’ll need time to get his timing down with the receivers.

Dakota what is Palmers class????
Last time I saw him play he missed soem open targets and oh yeah…quit on his team!!!!
He wanted Ocho to stay – managment did it.
He wanted TO – management got him.
So what does he do? Demand a trade and quit.
Palmer’s play has not been good since he blew out his knee. Point blank! Palmer should get mad at Palmer. His deep ball use to money after his knee it was average.
No way I give up a first for this guy when we don’t even have a first.
++++++++++++++++++++
The guy is already in Oakland taking his physical. Do you doubt his want to play? He spend 9 years in NFL hell with the Bungholes and wanted out after his 58th teammate was convicted! Not too many people outside of Mike Brown were blaming Palmer for demanding a trade. Palmer threw 47 TDs the last two seasons and made 32 starts. Now his health is an issue? I don’t think so.
Is he as good as he was before the injury? No. Is he better than any QB we have had since Gannon? by far. I don’t think he is an elite top 5 qb, but he is still in the class right below that. Certainly a QB who is capeable of winning a Super Bowl. Campbell was not that type of QB.
Besides, we are a better team and those first rounders are now going to be pick in the mid 20s or later. Not like we gave them 2 top ten first rounders, and our teams is young across the board.
Is it a gamble? Certainly. But a good gamble. If Palmer can give us a legit passing game we can beat anyone.

I knew morons would start criticizing trade as soon as they could… fcuken idiots… atleast wait to see how good he is with Raiders. . A bunch of MRs..make me sick.m
October 18th, 2011 at 8:54 am
C’mon RAIDER NATION! What is not to like about this trade? Hue must have been on the phone all night trying to work this deal! Huge upgrade at the QB position.
I can’t understand some of you.REAL RAIDER fans love this deal.Kyle Boller is not the answer to lead us where we need to go this year(deep into the playoffs). Some of you were crying about Soup, now we get a top notch QB and you are STILL CRYING!!!!! Then some idiot is talking abt Clausen…I wanted the Gunslinger-wouldda been cheaper but I will definately take this.
Palmer knows Hue’s system so the playbook shouldn’t be a problem to digest.I was all sad yesterday.Thinking about making the trip to Oakland for the Denver game to see freaking Boller run the offense.I hope Carson starts that Denver game!!!! WOO HOOO!!!
October 18th, 2011 at 8:57 am
Funny, it will take until 2014 to see the first non-Al draft…plus there is now a wage scale to prevent jaflushing 40 mil on a rook…

ARE YOU PEOPLE NUTS?????
Do you really want to go into next year’s draft with nothing until round 5? How do you expect to improve the team?
Palmer is shot. Finished. Haven’t you been watching? Did you see that playoff game AT HOME two years ago? I wouldn’t give up one number one for this guy – nevermind two.
The draft is the lifeblood of these teams. We are already down a draft after giving up picks for 22, 72, etc…
DON’T DO THIS HUE!!!
October 18th, 2011 at 9:02 am
Point taken RaiderAD, however, Carson’s wife is pretty hot
October 18th, 2011 at 9:03 am
not as hot as Boller’s!!!!
October 18th, 2011 at 9:04 am
OK, If it’s Palmer, the OLine has to turn into a qb protecting machine. Palmer has always had trouble staying up in the pocket, he’ll be a standing target, at least with Campbell he had some speed to get out, although you’d never knew if Campbell put the ball in the ground.
After watching Leinart for many years in SoCal, I’m having trouble believing that Casell, Sanchez, and Palmer are better than him. This one I will never understand.
October 18th, 2011 at 9:04 am
Just heard the 2013 pick becomes a 1 if we win a playoff game this year

The good news is Carson will have a full preseason to get ready given the next 3 weeks we play the Chiefs, bye and the Donkeys. He should be ready for prime time when we play the Bolts on Thursday night.

I recall the Bungles kicker missing a half-dozen chip shots in that one. This Raiders team is more talented than that Bungles team. We haven’t been in the playoffs in nearly 10 years and have had awful QB play for most of that stretch.
October 18th, 2011 at 9:20 am
let’s get real – this deal was there for Al (or anyone else) to make all summer
Al chose not to do it
he knew the price was too steep
Hue is a freaking rookie getting his clock cleaned
BIG MISTAKE
October 18th, 2011 at 9:43 am
Hey you guys, we’re “actually-only” giving up an early (2nd round pick)!
Think about it. If we can get some decent play out of him and with the weapons we have on this team and the remaining schedule, which isn’t bad, then we should make the playoffs.
If we go deep into the playoffs, which I think we can, then our first round pick next year is 25th thru 32nd.
That’s right…25th thru 32nd ( = ) high second round
It’s usually the top ten to fifteen players that are potential team changers or improvers, after that the remaining first rounders are actually “early 2nd” rounders.
In 2013, the same senario transpires, our first round pick will actually be a late first…maybe 27th thru
32nd…so, what’s all the fuss?
We had to pull the trigger, we had to go for it as not too many opportunities present themselves.
Think positive Raiders fans…get ready for the ride pass the summit and on to the top of the mountain, where we’ll look down on the valley…at the milk and honey and the grapes on the vineyards. It’s all good.
October 18th, 2011 at 9:58 am
Two weeks ago I posted that the Raiders are a QB and an LB away from being legit SB contenders. Now, Al has passed, and both of these positions have been filled. Wow
October 18th, 2011 at 10:02 am
Comparing 2010 stats, Palmer throws more deep balls and more INT’s. Overall rating is about the same
Player Cmp/Att Pct Yds YPA TD IN 20+ Rate TD/A IN/A
Palmer 362/586 61.8% 3970 6.8 26 20 45 82.4 4.4% 3.4%
Soup 194/329 59.0% 2387 7.3 13 8 29 84.2 4.0% 2.4%
October 18th, 2011 at 12:13 pm
Wow… so you ’steal’ Aaron Curry…(oh and did we say “thank you”??) for next years 7th round pick.. and now you give up next years first round (and perhaps the 2013 1st rounder as well).. for a 31 year old mediocre QB who hasn’t played in a year??
BWAAAHAAAHAAHAAAHAAHAAHAAHAAAHAAHAAAHAAHAAAHAAAA!!!!!
I love watching The Raiders implode.
You honestly think Palmer will take this team to the SB?? Put the pipe down and slowly back away. You are waaaay too high.
October 18th, 2011 at 1:28 pm
There’s actually such thing as Seahawk fans?
Not sure what conditions the conditional pick in 2013 is for that 1st rounder, but if that includes a trip to this years AFC Championship or even higher to the Super Bowl, then giving up 2-1st rounder isn’t such a bad thing.
Look, Tampa Bay gave up 2-1st and 2-2nds, for OUR Super Bowl. They didn’t seem to mind. Too bad we didn’t pick 1st and 2nd round caliber players with those picks other than Nnamdi.
October 18th, 2011 at 4:28 pm
Classic, a s***hawk fan on a RAIDERS BLOG telling us about THE RAIDERS imploding. Ever heard of cable, gallery and miller you a**hole. This pick up of Palmer reminds me of the trades Al worked in the 70’s,80’s, and even the 90’s. “JUST WIN NOW BABY”!
October 24th, 2011 at 11:32 am
Yeah youg guys sure looked crisp yesterday. Yep, I watched AC do nothing except get a 15 yard penalty. Oh and your new hero Palmer? Still think he was worth two first rounders? Win Now? Hardly.. and with no draft picks for the next two years, winning this decade will be tough!
BWAAAHAAAHAAAHAAAHAAAHAAAHAAAHAAAAA!!!
I told you AC was a bust and now you get to see it for yourselves. I told you that Palmer wasn’t worth two first rounders (he isn’t worth anything).. and now you get to see that as well.
See, you have to acutally understand football to have been able to see that these two recent moves by your front office didn’t help you JUST WIN NOW BABY.. all they did was ensure you won’t win for many years to come. And we in Seattle still thank you for ’stealing’ Aaron Curry from us!!!
