Palmer makes Raiders debut at practice

Recently acquired quarterback Carson Palmer is on the field with the rest of his new teammates, alternating snaps with Kyle Boller with the first-team offense.
It remains to be seen whether coach Hue Jackson will start Palmer on Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs. He told the Kansas City Star in a conference call that he isn’t sure Palmer will be ready to go so soon.
Jackson added that, it would be tough for Palmer to get up to speed in only three practices but, “If anyone can do it, he can.”
Palmer went through the paces, along with Kyle Boller and Terrelle Pryor, throwing short to intermediate passes to receivers, working on his dropbacks and footwork before taking part in full-team drills.
The Raiders are without cornerbacks Chris Johnson (hamstring) and Chimdi Chekwa (hamstring, calf), fullback Marcel Reece (ankle) and running back Rock Cartwright (undisclosed) today at practice. None played against the Cleveland Browns last Sunday.
Tight end Richard Gordon (hand), center Samson Satele (knee), wide receiver Louis Murphy (groin, hamstring) and the other players injured of late are at practice.
The Raiders signed offensive lineman Zach Hurd, 6-feet-7 and 325 pounds, to their practice squad. He is at practice and wearing No. 70. He started 39 games at right guard at Connecticut. He also spent some time with the Seattle Seahawks in training camp.

I’m happier than a little girl at this point. We all knew that if the running game went down JC was iffy to make the plays to win. He did it at Buffalo but i wasn’t sure about him getting us a championship. We know what we got with Carson. A Pro Bowler.

The Raiders deferred to Boller for the initial rep because he’s been on the team, but there’s little doubt that even a “limited” Palmer provides Oakland its best chance to win. Even if Palmer hands the ball off 40 times, he’d cause more concern for a defense. Boller is 2-11 in his last 13 NFL starts. He’s always been more of a threat to lose a game for his team than manage a win.

Yeah but one of those sacks was JC tripping over Mcfaddens feet.
and the last two were with Mr. Boller coming in, he got sacked twice, because he was hesitant, didn’t get rid of the ball quick enough, it took him awhile to get going, but finally drove the team for two FGs (one became the Punter to TE and I didn’t even get the special teams points for that play on my Raiders dfense special teams unit).

As the “Suck for Luck” campaign moves from simmer toward full boil, there’s a caveat. If sucking for Luck creates the impression that the franchise sucks too badly, Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck could make an Eli Manning-style power play.
Albert Breer of NFL.com reports that some in league circles are concerned that Luck and his father, WVU athletics director Oliver Luck (who once was the 44th overall pick in the draft), could make it known that Andrew doesn’t want to play, or simply won’t play, for the team that holds the top pick in the draft, in the hopes of forcing a trade.
“Absolutely. I’ve heard that for the last two years,” an unnamed scout told Breer. “There’s no question that it could be a Manning thing all over again.”
The “Manning thing” refers to the 2004 draft. Archie Manning, former NFL quarterback, made it clear that Eli didn’t want to play for the Chargers, who held the first pick in the draft. So the Chargers took Eli and then traded him to the Giants, who had taken Philip Rivers with the fourth overall pick. (As legend has it, Archie took the heat for the move, even though it was Eli who desperately didn’t want to play for the Chargers.)

Raiderinparadise: I’ve not only noticed Mr. Jones stepping up on special teams, but Mr. Groves had huge blasting tackle on special teams this past Sunday, after having been demoted he was a true professional and stepped up,
with Mr. Shaughnessy being out for the season, I can see the Raiders using him as a back up DE as well as OLB on occassion if needed.

Carson Palmer is expected to start Sunday’s game against the Chiefs, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
So much for easing a guy in. The Raiders gave up a king’s ransom for Palmer and understandably want him on the field immediately. Given Palmer’s high football IQ, grasping the playbook shouldn’t be a major stumbling block. However, we’d expect a run-heavy approach against the Chiefs, capping Palmer’s fantasy upside as a low-end QB2. Darrius Heyward-Bey and Denarius Moore are at least desperation options now — they would have been completely off the radar if Kyle Boller was the starter.

Yeah Groves took the Curry trade as no insult and is going to help this team wherever he can. He is a better mold to play special teams and selective downs sparingly as an everydown player the game sometimes appeared to much for him.
Curry might be the best trade per-value I have seen OAK make. He will come up key for this team.

Heard how we would tank this year cause of the cable firing. How Miller was our best player. How Nmamdi was worth the price. And yet here we are at 4-2!!

Like I said , every move Hue Jackson has made has worked out, Boss seemingly is underused as a pass-catcher but then again maybe with Carson getting the ball out on time with better reads and accuracy Hue won’t keep him in to block. Palmer is about 20 minutes away from taking the field with the Raiders for the first time.
He worked out Tuesday and performed well enough to prompt a lot of superlatives, Saunders said.

Huge Satele fan … I Went to Univeristy of Hawaii. he is a great teamate, positive guy and hard worker. Not too mention he is a great center, not the most consistent with some matchups but he a a true veteran that lets WIZ line-up next to Veldheer. He is a big key to what we do.

He blocks, but not better than Gordon or Boss. He catches, but not better than Ausberry or Boss. He plays ST but now we have Groves, Ndukwe, and even Ausberry to fill that role. Don’t care about his salary, he has the new “roster spot killer”. I’ve been saying since camp we should roll with Gordon, Ausberry, and Boss they present the best mix of talent as Gordon has displayed better hands than most thought and Ausberry is a better blocker than most thought.

I remember watching Palmer while he was at USC and seeing him hit some crazy throws. Just dropping a ball in perfectly to hit a receiver who had a half-step 50 yards down field. He’d do that time and again.
Could be interesting.

I like Satele as a C and have been saying for a while that he was our best lineman the last quarter of last season. Would rather keep Wiz at LG, like I said after we drafted him, because he is doing a great job there. Him, JV, and Satele are proving to be one of the most athletic and versatile trios in the league. Besides he has the same weaknesses as Satele does so the move would be lateral except we would add power, but lose versatility, and struggle with stunts and twists by plugging Barksdale in at LG.

The ESPN Zone in Downtown Disney is something that you need to experience. Get there early enough before kickoff and ask for one of the lounge chairs down front if you’re going solo. Picture sitting in a rather comfy recliner seated in front of a big screen the size you’d see in a movie theater (assuming that the Raiders game is on that one) and having servers bring you beer and food all game.
I was there this spring (chaperoning my daughter at the National Competitive Cheerleading Finals) in Anaheim and got there one night to watch an epic Sharks vs Kings game. There is no better way to watch a game!

I am on board. I do trust Hu jack.
If Jc had stayed healthy he would still be here but he got hurt, it isnt the first time a guy lost his job to injury. There is no loyalty in sports, all athletes know this going in.
Hu jack is a very good evaluator of talent, so not only did he fill our void, post injury but he has the guy he wants for his offense, there bye putting his stamp on the team.
Im just a fan HU knows better than i do, even if i disagree, or think we could have gone another way. i didnt always agree with davis either, but I love when my team wins.
