Raiders place DE Shaughnessy on injured reserve

By Steve Corkran
Wednesday, October 19th, 2011 at 11:14 am in Oakland Raiders.

The Raiders freed up a spot on the 53-man roster for quarterback Carson Palmer by placing veteran defensive end Matt Shaughnessy on the injured-reserve list.
That makes Shaughnessy ineligible to play for the Raiders again this season. He suffered a shoulder injury against the New York Jets on Sept. 25 and has not played since.
The Raiders held out hope that his shoulder might heal at some point this season. However, it appeared as if things weren’t going to improve enough for Shaughnessy to help out this season.
Jarvis Moss, Desmond Bryant and Trevor Scott are expected to fill the void in Shaughnessy’s absence.

Why all the predictions that Carson will throw at least a pick. Not against KC without Berry.

    ++++++++++

Gotta figure starting on a short week he’ll make at least 1 mistake
    ________________________________________________
I dont even think Boller would have thrown an INT this week against KC. This is a perfect week for Carson to start. KC is very bad, on both sides of the ball and are going to be dominated. 42-10. And the TD will come in garbage time. Dont let those two wins KC has fool you. Against IND and MINN, two teams that are just as bad. Our players are going to come out on fire for this game, and DMAC will have 200 all purpose, easy. Carson wont even have the opp to throw an interception.

It’s hard for me to catch every play by every player, so this list is certainly unofficial.

TDs don’t count as first downs.

And this is why Shaughnessy was drafted in the late 3rd, instead of late 1st-early second. Could never stay healthy. Hopefully he is able to get his body in gear and come back ready next season because he is a complete monster and we are at an advantage ANY time he is on the field.

    Raider Nation strikes again!

Somewhere on the streets drives a police officer who made an enemy of Michael Crabtree.

The Niners wide receiver tweeted yesterday that he was pulled over by a police officer on his way to the airport and detained for 30 minutes (no reason given, but he’s an athlete in a nice car so speeding seems like a safe guess), causing him to miss his flight. Crabtree’s explanation? The cop was a Raiders fan and “didn’t like the Niners.”

We can only imagine that the cop (or perhaps CHP officer) came into work today, donut in hand, bragging to all his friends about how he pulled over the Michael Crabtree. Hopefully a dashboard camera video a la Oregon’s Cliff Harris appears on the web soon.

All I know is he saw a lot of time at LG in the preseason. Looked pretty decent there. I don’t think Barksdale did well enough at LG to secure the spot, and the coaches seem hesitant to put Campbell on the field.

  55. JB Says:

For those of you thinking we paid too high a price for Palmer, that’s something a team with a franchise QB might say. Ask any team without a franchise QB what would they pay to get one and they say what will it take. Legitimate franchise QB’s are scarce. If you got a shot at the real deal, you best step up or get left in the dust.

Palmer’s acquisition changed the 2011 Oakland Raiders from a legitimate playoff contender to a legitimate Super Bowl contender all in one slick move. With the talent we have on board right now, we can compete against anybody. And, Hue’s not done yet. Today he also added another big time safety and is looking at another veteran CB. Like he said, “he will continue to make personnel changes as long as they make this team better”. He’s a man of his word. This acquisition is simply HUGE. The Raiders are BACK – BIG TIME!

I’d be remiss in not thanking Jason Campbell for helping to turn this team around. He is a real class guy & I wish him well. Actually, I hope he comes back as the BU-QB. I’d really like him to get a ring for his contributions when we take the Lombardi once again. We may be seeing the formation of a new dynasty. Al would have liked that.

So the Raiders just posted pics of Palmer at practice on FB… Wiz2 is snapping him the ball not Satele?

A few of us have asked about Mr. Satele, as he went down grabbing his knee on the failed 4th and 1 at the end of the quarter.

We have not heard or read anything.

Mr. Shaughnessy going to IR was my biggest concern as he is one of the best [in my opinion and others]; thankfully it is a shoulder and not a knee, hip, or ankle, so he will be ready to go next season; although if I recall correctly, the IR is limited to the regular season, so when the Raiders win the AFC West he will be rested and available for the playoffs.

At least we know we will have Mr. J.C. as our back up in December and into the playoffs.

    Yes!

I do like Mr. Satele, his intensity, 2nd &3rd level blocking, however, Mr. Wisniewski is stronger, and much better.

I would be happy with either Mr. B. Campbell, Mr. Heyer, and or Mr. Barksdale at LG.

All three make our OLine stronger in the power blocking scheme.

Pass protection, they will need to improve, their flaws can be offset by Mr. Palmer’s ability to read defenses, blitz packages, quick release.

I guess the question is with trading for Palmer is how much we would have paid him as a FA? Look at some of the contracts other FA QB’s have gotten. What are we paying him anyway? Read he was reworking his contract with us.

“We are tied with Buffalo and Tennessee with 7 sacks allowed.”

Yeah but one of those sacks was JC tripping over Mcfaddens feet.

and the last two were with Mr. Boller coming in, he got sacked twice, because he was hesitant, didn’t get rid of the ball quick enough, it took him awhile to get going, but finally drove the team for two FGs (one became the Punter to TE and I didn’t even get the special teams points for that play on my Raiders dfense special teams unit).

  67. RaiderRetribution Says:

Raiders still one of the best DL and front seven.

Raiders might need to consider using Mr. Bruce Campbell as DL, if he does not work out on the OL.

by the way someone needs to tell Mr. Jackson that the trade for Mr. Curry was the best trade of all-time, history will reveal.

So the Raiders just posted pics of Palmer at practice on FB… Wiz2 is snapping him the ball not Satele?

    —————
i know it’s just “bad luck” but that’s what happens when you decide to go for it on 4th and 1 instead of ice the game with a chip FG…you cause raider fans undue stress and you also get an injured satelle on the play.
