Raiders sign K Rayner

The Raiders signed veteran kicker Dave Rayner on Saturday afternoon, which portends Sebastian Janikowski’s hamstring injury being serious enough to preclude him from playing against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Rayner, 28, has played for six teams in his six NFL seasons. During that time, he converted 55 of his 75 field-goal attempts, including 13 of 16 last season for the Detroit Lions.

The Raiders released defensive back Ron Parker to make room for Rayner on the 53-man roster.

It’s likely that Janikowski will be healed enough to kick in Oakland’s game Nov. 6, vs. the Denver Broncos. The Raiders have a bye after the Chiefs game.

    Palmer.

I think Boller will play OK today. DHB will have a big game again. And DMC will be 2 legs on the stool.

    ….

If Campbell could come back after the bye week would this even be a question?

The answer is this… Boller’s job is to carry this team until the starter is ready. Period.

That is the job of every backup.

If Boller plays well today, great! Doesn’t mean he is a starting QB. Just means he did his job.

    LOL..

    “Tebow focuses on leadership, comminication”

well what about technique? I thought that would the primary focus point!?!?

If Boller EVER played lights out for us, it would be because of the weapons on this team, not because hes a good QB. If Boller has anything close to a decent game, it will only be reason to get Carson in there in even SOONER to take advantage of the weapons we have.

    =====================================
    Hmmm, let’s see…

Just traded potentially two numbers ones for Palmer.

Let’s play Boller after the bye.

C’mon. Kyle can play a great game and he’ll be riding pine again BEFORE the bye.

Only way Boller or TP see significant time after the bye is if Carson is injured or playing like Johnny Carson, in which case we’re going to moaning about the trade.

  • Just Fire Baby

I will place the over/under on Boller’s QB rating today at 75.7

  • RaydaSwagger

    The Violator was on Fox!

  • No Mas Diamante

If Boller plays lights out then we will have a very good back up for palmer.

  • SnB offense defense specialteams

If Kyle Boller is this helpless….then the Raiders were beeee esssin in the preseason. Why on earth do you retain guys that can’t play?

Charlie Frye or even the little Gradkowski kid could backup for a few games.

Anyway, the Raiders have to do like they have the last 2 weeks and stay focused on playing great defense and stopping the run. Run the football with DMAC and Bush and take a couple of shots.

BTW, just my opinion…but this blog has a tendency to literally put players in the Hall of Fame before they have taken a snap.

Lets put it on tape 1st

Lots of McFadden… Bush…and Kevin Boss..

JC. Nice guy. Good teammate. Showed leadership during the lockout.

Mediocre QB – on a good day.

Honestly don’t believe the drop off from JC to Boller is significant.

Do think that the change from JC to Boller and the Palmer uncertainty and media circus this week could have negative consequences today.

Preparation might not be what it should be.

Raids better forget the ass whuppin they put on KC in the finale and recognize they were fortunate to beat KC in the first meeting.

KC is minus their best offensive player, but they’re still dangerous.

If defense plays like they did in week 17 last season, KC is in trouble. If not, this is a dog fight.

Hope Hue has the troops ready and fired up.

We had a chance with Boller as back up to maybe making the playoffs. With Palmer we could very well be going to the playoffs for the next 5 yrs.
If the refs lay off of us since Al’s gone I would say 3 playoff births the next 5 yrs.
I’m not just being optimistic .

    Zach Miller has another concussion.

  • Just Fire Baby

Zack Miller had his best years wasted, getting layed out to dry by Jamarcus Russell.

Playing with Jamarcus is like dog years for a TE.

Bummer for Zack, he may have to hang them up sooner rather than later.

  • elraidmanhattan

Lot’s of screens today, play action, kc will key on mcfadden, 8 in the box, watch for some once passes fpr big gains today.

  • elraidmanhattan

Passes for long gains, mark it down.

  • Just Fire Baby

I believe we may have to lean on Hue’s penchant for trickeration today, to move the ball.

Wouldn’t be suprised to see McFadden or Bush toss the rock, maybe some more of Jacoby lining up in the backfield, WR screens and reverses.

Just don’t need the end arounds to Reece and Ausberry there Hue.

you may not like russell and thats fine but your bullsh!t propaganda needs to stop. he didnt leave miller out to dry as much as u claim and he had his best years with #2. dont know why yall keep talkin about someone yall hate so much. i was one of his last fans and ive been over his failures. u guys need to let it go and move on but then again most of you wouldnt have sh!t to say if u couldnt talk down on someone. we have carson palmer yet we still have to talk about russ or grads in here. i think some of yall like the bullsh!t they did here.

  • RAIDERMAN99

Refs are never going to lay off us.

At least not while there’s still a perception that the Raids are the NFL’s ‘bad boys’.

Have the Raids wound up on the short end of some really bad calls more than they should have ? I think so.

Were the Raids guilty of a lot of ‘discipline’ and pre-snap penalties ? I think so.

The question is, why are the Raids the league’s most penalized team – year after year after year ?

Surely some of the coaching staffs here over the years should have had some success in changing the penalty proclivity.

    Yet, that’s never happened.

    Why ?

    The answer is simple.

Because of the Raider image and reputation, their games are more closely officiated than other NFL contests.

I’d bet if a stat guru like JFB investigated this theory, he’d find that not only do the Raids lead the NFL in penalties by a wide margin, but that their games have more penalties called than in a typical NFL contest.

  • armond

well any way it should be a victory for us and i believe we put it on kc more than expected.

Could be. But I’d guess it’s mainly going to be a straight forward, keep it simple, game plan.

However, I wouldn’t be surprised at all if we get our first glimpse of TP on the field in a wildcat situation.

Think that’s coming sooner than expected.

  • Kirk

It would be easy for us to lose this game today.

We are hurting without JC and Jano.

McClain is injured as well. Don’t know if he is going to play.

But I think Hue’s trickeration will help.

  • http://Raiders.com RaiderTW

I wasn’t talking about reputation or offsides penalties. Did that onside kick last week go 10 yrs? Did the tip of the ball hit the ground on the Imaculate deception? Ask any one who saw it live why they now show Franco with the bottom cut off of the screen. Intentional maliciousness.
