Houshmandzadeh makes Raiders debut; Hagan not here
By Steve Corkran
Wednesday, November 2nd, 2011 at 10:50 am in Oakland Raiders.
Wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh is at practice, as expected, rocking No. 84 and apparently taking the place of fellow veteran Derek Hagan.
Houshmandzadeh is among the six wide receivers on the practice field, and Hagan is not among them for the first time all season.
Houshmandzadeh signed with the Raiders on Tuesday after working out for coach Hue Jackson. He has a chance to play Sunday against the Denver Broncos, given he can get in three practices.
The Raiders are hopeful that he can provide a spark for a receiving corps that hasn’t produced much in recent games. Darrius Heyward-Bey has been the lone consistent performer all season.
In other news, running back Darren McFadden is not at practice once again. He has missed all four practices since he suffered a mid-foot sprain against the Kansas City Chiefs on Oct. 23.
It’s looking more and more as if Jackson intends to rest McFadden for the Broncos game in hopes of having him for the AFC West showdown against the San Diego Chargers on Nov. 10.
Jackson has to feel confident that the Raiders can get past the Broncos without McFadden. If they can’t beat the Broncos without McFadden, then the Raiders problems run deeper than an injured lead back.
Middle linebacker Rolando McClain (leg), cornerbacks Chris Johnson (hamstring) and Chimdi Chekwa (hamstring) and kicker Sebastian Janikowski (hamstring) also aren’t practicing.
Tight end Kevin Boss (concussion) and fullback Marcel Reece (ankle) are practicing and showing no negative effects from their injuries.
Interestingly, the Raiders still have fullback Manase Tonga on their 53-man roster. He has either impressed Jackson enough to warrant a longer look, or Jackson isn’t convinced that Reece is ready to play at full strength.

CJ to IR, enough already.
How’d Chekwa get hurt???

Don’t know about you guys but there are only two words that keep repeating themselves in my mind. Those two words are 5&3
November 2nd, 2011 at 10:56 am
Meyers should be cut if the team is that high on ausberry. Gordon is a superior blocker. we only need three TE’s.
November 2nd, 2011 at 10:56 am
He is making an earth-shattering major blockbuster move here.
==================================================
What? cutting Hagan for TJ is a earth-shattering blockbuster move? I think it upgrades the WR corp, no doubt. None of these WR have ben doing schit except my mup DHB!!!

McFadden is our offense. And Palmer is still in training camp. So, yes Ghost, I think this game may be more difficult than people would like to admit if DMAC isn’t ready.
If Palmer does well this weekend, I will be very impressed. Otherwise, this guy’s still going through the paces and won’t be ready to really let it fly for another week or two.

What’s all the fuzz about Hagan being cut?.
I don’t recall many people clamoring for him to play more the past few weeks, but now that he’s gone people suddenly miss him?.
I liked Hagan, he’s a class act and he’ll be missed on Special Teams, but it’s not gonna make or break that unit either.
Now on Housh…
I see some guys don’t like it, let the kids play and develop seems to be the argument, but let’s take a look at Donald Driver and Hines Ward, two players older and more fragile than Housh who are also surrounded by talented young WR’s.
Green Bay has the best WR unit in the league with Greg Jennings, Jordy Nelson and James Jones, all starting caliber guys plus a good looking rookie in Randall Cobb, yet they chose to retain Donald Driver who still starts and sees some action, not nearly as much as he used to, but he still has a couple of TD’s.
Pittsburgh has 3 talented kids in Mike Wallace, Antonio Brown and Emmanuel Sanders and kept Hines Ward around, he’s still starting and has posted 26-258-2 line.
Point is, keeping Driver and Ward around has not hindered the development of the younger WR’s in those teams and my guess is that they have helped them learn the nuances of playing the position.
Now as far as T.J. actually contributing on the field, I have my doubts as everyone else, but the truth is we haven’t replaced Zach Miller’s production over the middle of the field.
That’s where T.J. may be able to help, playing the slot and matching up vs LB’s, Safeties or Nickel CB’s.
None of our young WR’s can play the slot yet, they are all better outside where they can use their speed to gain separation and scare the CB’s, but speed won’t make a big difference down the middle with all the traffic there.
Just because Jacoby Ford looks like a Slot WR doesn’t mean he has learned or can play there, T.J. used to know how to get open and has seen every coverage out there, if he still has some legs he should be able to produce for us.
Now Palmer can’t move like Campbell, he won’t be able to buy time by moving around in the pocket so he needs a security blanket he can trust over the middle to dump it off if he’s hurried, T.J. probably makes Carson feel better already since he knows where he’ll be every time.

Hate to say I told you so, but I love to copy and paste it….ha
anyway……hope Seabass is ready to roll. We need that threat of scoring from the opp.’s 40 yd line to give the offense as much confidence as it can get in CP’s first start.

But, to your lack of a point, Huey could have picked either Chaz “the glass”, Louis Smurphy, or Hagan. Huey probably made a choice based on age, and the fact the Raiders drafted “the glass” and Smurphy.

DMAC – Myers is the only TE whose been around who actually stays on the field. Yea, he’s slower than crap, but he’s a solider we can count on to bang heads/block and he rarely drops the ball (won’t get far if he catches it), but at least he stays on the field. Gordon can’t bang with the best of ‘em for long yet, Ausberry is just as green behind the ears, and Boss is concussion prone throughout his career. Gotta keep Myers

In 5 full seasons Hagan has averaged 19 catches for 216 yards with 5 total TD’s, that’s 96-1083-5 in his five year career.
In 2 full seasons, Murphy has averaged 37 catches for 565 yards with 6 total TD’s, that’s 75-1130-6 in his two year career.

I think dropping Hagen for TJ was a good move!
Now hear me out.
I really liked Hagen AND I believe Hagen to be a better wr than TJ at this point.
So, why is it a good move?
For whatever reason, Hagen fell out of favor with Baby Huey. SO, as a WR, he is almost useless to us. Coach was hardly ever going to use him. NOW what we have is a wr that both coach and qb KNOW AND TRUST. That is gold! TJ will be used AND for Palmer to have someone he is familiar with. 4 years of familiar. 4 years of trust. That could mean the difference between not making the playoffs and making the playoffs.
Once a player falls out of favor with coach he is dead weight. Might as well get rid of the broken part for a moving part.

Hagan had 11 receptions for about 115 yards. Not saying he was our best receiver – but he looked better than most in pre-season and he wasn’t thrown the ball a lot. Just saying there were other players that could have been released over Hagan. Like for instance one of the tight ends………I don’t see anyone on here that’s hysterical about it. Except a couple of people going nuts that some of us think it was an unwise move.

My vote is that Houston or Kelley are the first ones to to the Tebowing. Not because they will be the first and only to get a sack on him, but because they have the attitudes and spunk to do it!! I would applaud.

Gotta keep Myers

chaz is always hurt
ford is struggling
murphy has stage fright and short arms (viagra symptoms maybe?)
moore has vanished
Hagan was solid and dependable we needed him

You lost me on this one bruh…what did my post have to do with Hagan?
November 2nd, 2011 at 11:43 am
Hagan did not have the ball thrown to him much at all and when it was thrown to him, he made catches and ran good routes. Hagan should be put back on the roster to give us more ammo and place cj37 on IR. Never was high on cj37, he always get burned too much.

Willis McGahee carried the ball with his left hand — not his surgically repaired right — during the open portion of Broncos practice Wednesday.
McGahee still can’t use his dominant right hand, which makes us think his status is still very much in doubt for Week 9. We’ll know more by Friday.

I agree that Murphy is playing bad right now, but at least he has shown he can get open and make plays at this level, now if his hands can come back, he’ll be another weapon we can count on, you don’t cut 24 year old kids with his size, speed and potential, specially when they have made plays for you in the past and are playing out their rookie contracts.
As far as the TE’s, Boss may go down anytime, so Myers is needed as his backup, Gordon looks like he’s gonna turn into a monster blocker soon, he’s already pretty good and Ausberry can catch like a WR, maybe he develops as an Aaron Hernandez type of weapon in the future.
Point is Gordon and Ausberry have potential, Hagan at 27 is not going to to suddenly turn into Anquan Boldin, he is what he is, a 4th or 5th WR who can play ST’s.

Agreed with Mr Brown – comment #4
November 2nd, 2011 at 12:15 pm
Alright peeps, im getting tired of all this whinning. We lose to chiefs who we spotted 14 points from our back up Qb and our new Qb who only had 3 days of practice and now we got the mob out on Hue. He helped raise our offense from the grave last year. This year our offense has looked bad a couple games ( the browns game when Campbell got hurt and against the chiefs). Our rushing game is #2, number 12 in total yards, number 18 in scoring, which I admit we need to raise, but come on, remember the past few years when we went 3 and out almost every drive, when our coaches refused to use our talent properly. Hue helped resurrect Dmac’s career. He is obviously making strides with DHB, and he was instrumental in Jason playing well. I am a Jason supporter, it sucks he got hurt and might be playing somewhere else next year but that’s football. He needs to learn to slide and live to play another down. Hue was forced to make a big move, He wasn’t bout to let kyle or pryor scratch his suited up 1980 Cutless Supreme. Our head coach who is bent on making our roster better went out and got the best available Qb in Carson Bomber. If he would have stayed the course with the Qb’s he had, a lot of you would be wishing that he had traded for Palmer. He paid a steep price I must admit, but remember he was dealing with a stubborn owner in Mike Brown. Only time will tell if it was a good trade, but come on Palmer haters, let the brother learn the plays before you consider him a dud. Curry was a good move by Hue and has the potential of being a massive steal. Sheppard was a good pickup because we are thin at CB. Everyone seems to be ok with that addition. Now Hue’s latest move seems to have people’s panties in a bunch. Tjwhoseurmamma IMO is a good pickup even though I am a little weary that it has the possibility to cause some locker room issues. Some players might get butt hurt that Hue is ready to replace anybody at anytime. DHB is our only receiver that has been consistent. Moore has defiantly hit the rookie wall, Ford is explosive but not a number 2 receiver, and might benefit from Tj by learning how to be that slot receiver we need him to be in the future. Chaz is always hurt, Murphy has not been the same since he came back from his injury, Hagan might be in the dog house. If Tj can move the chains, spark and mentor theses young bucks we have Im down with it. In Hue, The coach of the Oakland Raiders, Not The Oakland Campells, Not the Oakland Tonga’s ( that’s for you b auce man, come on bro Tonga over reece, ill take a 3 dimensional player, Run, Block, Catch, over a 1 dimensional player any day) I trust. And all this I wish Al was a alive to run the show, you got to be kidding me. I wish he was a alive, but not to run everyday football operations. Isn’t it weird that since Al passed on away, our Defense has played the run better and is getting better every week. And wait till we get healthy. Hue hasn’t even put his stamp on the Defense yet. Chuck is not his guy. He will get someone he trust and fits his philosophy in here next year. Our team is shaping up nicely for the rest of this season and beyond. We just got to get healty. Code Black still in affect Nation.

A different perspective on the Carson Palmer trade, it comes not from media, scouts, coaches but from super Agent Leigh Steinberg or “The world’s most famous sports agent”.
“The trade that sent quarterback Carson Palmer from Cincinnati to Oakland has been widely touted as a “steal” for the Bengals. The reality is that it is also a great deal for the Raiders.
The Bengals did well because they had a franchise quarterback who made it clear he would never play for the team again. They seem to have a promising young quarterback in Andy Dalton and if they develop him correctly, could have that position solidified for several years.
By sitting Carson for the first six weeks of the season, Mike Brown made his point that the Bengals will not respond well to players under contract demanding to be traded.
A first round draft pick next year and a second round selection in 2012 that could escalate to a first—if the Raiders were to make the playoffs—could be helpful in rebuilding the team. It depends on the players picked and their developmental process.
I think Al Davis is looking down on this trade with great pride in the front office. The acquisition of Palmer could turn the Raiders into a Super Bowl contender and dramatically transform their team.
Here’s why:
1. The critical nature of the quarterback position.
The modern NFL is a passing league supplemented by the run. West Coast offenses and rules changes—which make it difficult to cover wide receivers—have revolutionized the way the game is played.
The difference between a franchise quarterback—a player that teams can win “because of” rather than “with”—and a quarterback dearth leading to musical chairs, is franchise changing.
The position is difficult to draft and needs careful tutelage and study to play well.
Every season that a quarterback plays enhances their vision on the field and ability to master the skill-set.
Peyton Manning, John Elway and Troy Aikman are examples of “first pick in the draft” quarterbacks that have led teams to multiple Super Bowls.
Players like Aaron Rodgers, Ben Roethlisberger and Joe Flacco were later picks in the first round.
Matthew Stafford and Matt Ryan are “top of the draft” picks that are still developing and Alex Smith is showing promise under new head coach Jim Harbaugh.
Occasionally, a Drew Brees or Tom Brady are available later. But the competition for these players is intense and teams are loathe to give them up once they perform.
Think of all the acrimonious negotiations that occur with NFL players and how few of them involve quarterbacks. Their contracts are normally extended and these players never become free agents. It takes time to develop chemistry between offensive lines, receivers and quarterbacks.
2. The Raiders have a need.
The Raiders flourished with quality quarterbacking from Ken Stabler, Jim Plunkett, and Rich Gannon, but they have been trying to fill this need for many years.
Jason Campbell is injured and not a proven long-term solution. A developing young team needs quality quarterbacking.
Oakland has a premiere running back in Darren McFadden and talented young wide receivers. With an experienced winning quarterback, their offense could be explosive.
The Raiders have experienced attendance problems these past several years and an exciting quarterback and revitalized offense would be a crowd pleaser.
3. Draft picks are risky.
I have been representing NFL players since 1975 and have had 60 first round draft picks as clients and eight players selected first overall.
Quarterback drafting is risky…just look at the first round of the 1999 Draft. Where are first-rounders Tim Couch, Akili Smith, Daunte Culpepper and Cade McNown, who should all be in their prime? And if you recall, Ryan Leaf was picked No. 2 overall.
The care and breeding of young quarterbacks is excruciatingly difficult and how many draft picks does it take to insure a franchise quarterback?. The other first and second round picks carry the chance of not fulfilling their potential.
4. Carson Palmer is a good bet to resurrect his career.
As long as a quarterback can avoid injury to his legs, he tends to get better with age. Arm strength may not fade until his 40’s and play-calling gets better and better.
Carson was the first pick of the 2002 draft and got the benefit of sitting and learning for a couple of years. From 2004 until 2007, he was among the NFL’s statistical elite, with a quarterback rating of 90.1 and a completion percentage of 64.1. His TD to INT ratio was 104-63 during that time span.
He made the Pro Bowl in 2005 and 2006 and then suffered a serious elbow injury that caused him to miss twelve games during the 2007 season. His performance diminished after that, but he is an excellent bet to return to his previous status.
Palmer is healthy, seasoned and will have multiple motivations to prove his worth again. I predict he will be very successful.
The Raiders made a great deal!.”

By the way, here’s an excellent reply to the Leigh Steinberg article by a Raiders fan:
“Nice writeup Leigh. One thing I think you could also add to that analysis is that Oakland is both a fairly young and complete team.
Every position they don’t have a competent starter, they have a promising youngster.
A year off from the draft (they will still have a few mid-rounders) will hurt them less that most other teams assuming that they retain their own FAs and/or replace anyone who leaves.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying 1st round picks are ever useless, but as a very avid Raiders fan, I would be taking the Best Player Available if the draft we’re tomorrow because there are 0 holes to fill (with undeveloped draft picks) in the team as it stands.
Sure the right side of the OL COULD use a stud. Maybe a great DB too. But we have a rookie RT, a 2nd year RG and two rookie CBs who are really coming on.
They’ll need a replacement back for Bush and some depth, they can thrive without a couple picks for a top tier QB.”
I could not agree more, there are young, talented players on every unit, we even have our QB of the future already in Pryor.

On the choice between cutting Chaz, Murph or Hagan, does anyone know what each of their contract situations are? That may have played into the decision, in terms of salary cap, long term costs and keeper value, and so forth. If Hagan was signed to a one year, incentive heavy deal, then that increases his expendability.
Also bear in mind that Hagan was a free agent coming into this season for a reason. He likely will be again next season, as will about 20 other WRs of his caliber and skill set. He’s just not a hugely valuable commodity in the NFL. Not saying that Chaz or Murph are either, but they may be more cap friendly or long term keepable.
Also worth thinking about is that if Hagan catches everything thrown to him, why so few catches? Because he’s so good that coach wants to keep him of the field? Or maybe because he wasn’t getting open all that often in order to get the throws in the first place. Sure, he could get open in pre-season against 3rd stringers and scrubs about to be cut, but against 1st string starters maybe he just doesn’t have enough speed and/or moves to matchup against.
Both Chaz and Murph seem to have a better track record at getting open which is sort of a requirement before you have to worry about catching the ball. And maybe Housh is also an upgrade in this department based on his years of experience and knowing how to work the seams against the zone coverages to provide CP3 with a safe outlet when needed.

Z,
all 3 making peanuts. contract year for Chaz & Hagan. Murphy under contract until 2014 I think
Hagan has a history with Palmer and heavily praised the signing, while Murphy was the only guy who gave Boller props after Campbell went down. Murphy also openly gave props to Russell while he was the starter in Oakland, struggling like Chris Farley trying to put on David Spade’s jacket *fat guy in a little coat*

Bringing in an outsider like Houshy in the middle of a fairly successful beginning of the season HAS TO be a slap in the face to some of the WR’s.
The game is a business, and they are all big-boys so I don’t feel bad for them.
But it may take a minute for some of the team to warm up to this.

I find it nuts people are losing it over Hagen. I picked him as my MUP. I wanted to see him do well. But the fact is he wasn’t being used. The other WR’s that could have been cut the Raiders have invested in with draft picks. Hagen was a FA.
Also blaming Hue makes no since. I don’t believe he is just running around doing all these things all by himself.
For all anyone knows Mark Davis may have said no to cutting Murphy or Chaz because of how his father felt about them or all they invested in them.

Darren McFadden exited the Raiders’ facility in a protective boot and on crutches after missing Wednesday’s practice.
At this point, neither the Oakland Tribune nor the San Francisco Chronicle expects McFadden to play in Week 9. Trib beat reporter Steve Corkran suggests that the Raiders will target their Week 10 Thursday Night Football matchup with San Diego for McFadden’s return. It’s a division game, and the organization believes it can defeat Tim Tebow’s Broncos without Run DMC.

Cutting the #6 WR on your team and replacing him is not a distraction.Too many of you are totally over reacting and over valuing a marginal player.Just because Corkran said he was one of our best WRs and just because a couple of people on here kept proclaiming him the next great Raider WR doesn’t mean it was fact.Every other WR on the team has more potential and a higher ceiling. No big loss and probably an upgrade.

When I think about all the variables, it totally makes sense to choose Hagan as the odd guy out to make room for TJ. In this day and age of tight NFL budgets, the Raiders realized that they could reuse the capital H, both a’s and the n from Hagan’s name, thus considerably reducing the cost of all those letters to spell Houshmandzadeh on the back of the jersey.
An unofficial Radiers insider was quoted as saying, “Sure, from a production standpoint cutting Murphy made more sense. But what would we do with all those unused letters in his name? I mean, we’re talking two y’s, one for each jersey color!”

Jonathan Condo (born August 26, 1981) in Philipsburg, Pennsylvania is an American football long snapper for the Oakland Raiders in the National Football League. He played college football at the University of Maryland.
Condo played high school football at Philipsburg-Osceola High School. There he was an All-State linebacker, and participant in the Big 33 Football Classic. Condo still holds many of Philipsburg-Osceola’s football records.
He was also an all-state selection in baseball, as a catcher on the P-O baseball squad, and in his senior year he won the PIAA Wrestling AAA classification 275 weight limit championship. Jon finished the year with only one blemish on his record.
Condo was an exclusive rights free agent in 2008, but the Raiders re-signed him.
On October 19, in a game against the New York Jets, the Raiders were forced to punt on a 3 and out. Condo directly snapped the ball to outside linebacker Jon Alston, who ran it for 22 yards on a fake punt play. He was added to the Pro Bowl for 2010.
Condo in November 2008
On July 27, 2011, the Oakland Raiders resigned condo to a 3 year deal.

Dude, have you lost your mind? You simply don’t release a pro bowl type talent and future hall of famer (Hagan) for a receiver who has played with, practiced with, and is experienced with our current QB. TJ over Hagan makes NO sense. Hagan is a future hall of famer, what is TJ?
November 2nd, 2011 at 1:29 pm
Why isn’t anyone focusing on the special teams aspect of this trade-off?
Pretty basic, Hagan rarely played offensively, and played ALL THE TIME on special teams, including being a gunner on punt coverage, and also on kickoff coverage.
That is the only loss here.
Hagan as a WR was not all that productive. Hagan as a ST WAS VERY PRODUCTIVE.

EXACTLY what I have been trying to say. His stellar and stunning hits on special teams can’t be replaced. Not to mention the CONSTANT inside the 10 downs he constituted, the many fumble recoveries and the bone jarring hits!! Other than his stellar receving numbers, he could be in the hall of fame just with his special teams stats. He is SIMPLY the best gunner to ever play in the NFL. Our special teams are now DOOOMED.

I can see if TJ was brought here to start and be the lead WR, but he’s gonna be a slot WR, nothing more, something he is actually GREAT at, in case everyone forgot. And with the comments, youd think we cut D. Moore for him. I like Hagan, but lets get real, he has never been better than TJ a single season of his life. Sometimes I wonder if people actually WATCH football. And we signed him cheap. So lets see, before we had a handful of WRs, talented, but none really taking over the slot position. We signed one of the best in the game at it. We now have depth at deep threats, AND the vet WR that we need. We improved with this signing, and itll show up on the field. You dont average 100 catches over a three year span like TJ if you cant play. I’ll gladly take Palmer having options of throwing to DHB, Moore/Ford, TJ, DMAC, or Boss on ANY GIVEN PLAY. Sounds good to me.

How can you say that? Hagan is bound for the hall of fame!! I think it’s you that doesn’t watch the games.

Hey dipshat, Hagan has always been a ST contributor.
Led the Giants in ST tackles one year when he was there, and has been one of our best this year, and one of the best at downing punts in years.
Let’s mock production, while healthy inactives stick around still.

Oh I completely agree with you. I mean, with all the other WRs healthy, he would have been inactive most weeks.

This. I like Hagan. I still think he’s a better player than Murphy, and could be more productive than Chaz. But the Raiders wanted to add a receiver Palmer had some experience with, and someone had to go. Hagan hasn’t been around the team as long as the other guys, and if you don’t want to mess with team morale and chemistry then you have to take that into consideration. Housh can easily do everything Hagan did for the offense. And if it makes Palmer’s transition smother, then the move was worthwhile.

Fact of the matter is..
Our most impressive wins are against an off jets team and a close win against the texans without Mario Henderson and Andre Johnson.
We blew a huge lead against the bills, couldn’t compete with the pats and just got blown out by a division rival at home because Hue didn’t have a proper game plan ready to compensate for our QB situation.
Are there positives and excuses to make for all of the games so far? Absolutely, but this team, including Hue needs to recognize that they are not playing fundamentally sound football and get back to what we had going last year which had our offense rolling. I was rooting for Hagan earlier in the season but he wasn’t involved in many plays for reasons I’m sure Hue knows better than me so its time to see if Housh can produce and if not, complain about it here later.

Cut Bruce Campbell to keep Hagan? Im trying to imagine which active NFL GM would actually do that.
Besides, Campbells nowhere near as buried on the depth chart as Hagan was. Campbells just been hurt. That aside, hes no less than our 3rd RG or RT. With way more potential of producing at his position for us than Hagan had.
This isnt the first team that was deep at WR that Hagans been cut from, might not be the last.

Totally valid. But bear in mind that these “impressive” wins were with a very unimpressive QB that played to not lose. Remember JC’s supposed throwaway right into the hands of a surprised DB in the end zone to take points off the board? Remember Hue calling 4 straight running plays for Bush at the goal line because he had zero confidence in his QBs ability to not turnover the ball in the red zone?
All this changes with CP3. His arrival means a less predictable offense, which in turn means longer drives and more time of possession. That takes a lot of pressure off the defense allowing them to play more aggressively. Adding a legit starting QB is an absolute game changer. You’re going to see a different Raiders team from here on out.

TJ is on the doggone street. Career was over until Hue brought the band back together. What’s he got left? I guess we get the priviledge to find out.

What galaxy was Hagan ever better than TJ on?
Even last year, TJs least productive, STILL woulda been Hagans CAREER BEST season. Hagans not a better route runner, doesnt have better hands, HAS NEVER CAUGHT 112 balls in a season. Lets not forget, TJ is a 7th rounder. He worked his way up. He wasnt schollied into any position. He got on the field and WORKED into one of the leagues most productive WRs.
Housh is gonna do some good things for this team.

If raiders loose for second week at home, against a divison rival, Hue might start to be on a hot seat, at least GM wise. His moves as a GM, only the Curry one stands out.
Mark Davis better start eyeing some GM candidates, Hue is being blasted in the media.

All it takes is one Special Teams player not in place to turn a runback into a touchdown. It’s important and I’m sure Housh isn’t going to play Special Teams.
But, I think Hue will figure out a way to get him involved so as someone said above…better to have a person who’s put into the game plan than Hagan just sitting there doing nothing (unless it does hurt the Special Teams).
Davis wanted him (Hagan) for a reason maybe? He definitely wasn’t the fastest…

JFB,
What are you worried about?
***************************
Not valuing ST’s enough, and not having 48 guys contributing on Sundays.
That’s it. Not like B and about to start knuckling up with guys over it, lol.
Just think we could have trimmed some other fat than Hagan, but certainly Hagan was in the mix to be cut.
I would have just went another route, and I think Al Davis would have as well.
November 2nd, 2011 at 2:37 pm
Dang it, this team needs to get healthy for a shot at this division.
All I keep hearing is about is resting guys for this game so we can have them for a more important game.
That is BS. These “easy” games are where chemistry and rhythm are built so the team is clicking when the “tougher” games come around.
Plugging guys in different spots each week is not a recipe for success.

About this Denver game, if all of you think Bush will win this game, you are on the koolaid. Denver has a good defense, just remember last game when we barely beat them, and that was with JC @ QB, and McFadden…
———
Denver was a much better team then when Orton was QB. Plus, it was a Monday night opener with a division rival. That game really wasn’t that close, anyways. Orton made a late comeback.
November 2nd, 2011 at 2:38 pm
How good is tj? Really? Chemistry with carson? Damn , build it with the guys already here.
===
It takes time and lots of practice reps to build that chemistry. CP3 doesn’t have the luxury of training camp, preseason, or the first 6 weeks of the regular season to establish that. But he already has it with TJ, so that;s a huge benefit!
My prediction is that TJ is almost immediately effective and is CP’s favorite dump off target. Over the course of the next several games, you’ll see him use him less and less as he gains chemistry with a few other WRs.
I see Housh’s signing as a bridge towards the future between CP3 and DHB/Ford/Moore/Boss.

Just a note on this “win now” theme. If the last 8 years taught me anything, its the importance of building a team that can last for a while.
Quite frankly, putting in “time” to develop DHB has paid off to my surprise. I think a similiar investment in Moore, Ford and the rest will make this team tough for yrs to come.
If Hue really sees this as a super bowl team, then fine, but if we are bustin up the place just to get a wildcard THIS YEAR at the expense of next year and beyond, I would really have to question that.
Lotta young talent Al scrapped together, hate to see it delayed or put on the shelf.
Signing TJ suggests something to me I am not comfortable with.

I would have preferred retaining Hagan, but the Housh move is really nothing to get worked up over.
Glad that CJ hasn’t been IR’d. I’m probably in the minority here, but I like CJ and think he can be a valuable contributor down the stretch, if he can get healthy.
Hoping the signing/waiving action doesn’t distract from preparation for the mules. Seems to be an atmosphere of clamoring about roster moves and taking a win for granted, based on the Mules and Tebow’s weak showing. This is the NFL and if the Rams can whup the Saints then you’d best believe the Mules can beat the Raids.
Opening total for this game was 45. Smart money quickly hammered that down to 42.5. Raids favored by 8, might go to 9. So books are calling for something like a 26-17 Raider win.
This figures to be perhaps the easiest win of the year, but it’s certainly not a gimme – especially if DMAC doesn’t go.
Raids better not fail here. Fall back to .500 and 0-2 in the division spells deep trouble.
No complacency. Get the job done.
November 2nd, 2011 at 3:09 pm
If McFadden isn’t 100% then rest him…. Would you rather beat Denver twice or Lose to the Chokers twice…Denvers not contending this year… Besides if the Raiders can’t beat Denver without McFadden then this team isn’t a contender…

November 2nd, 2011 at 3:24 pm
McFadden started the Chefs game… Cameout after 2 carrys… If he’s hurt then he’s Hurt….
I’d rather have McFadden 100 % for the Chokers than an injured McFadden aginst the Donks…. Why risk losing him for the playoff push….this team has to be able to play without its star players sometimes…if the Raiders can’t beat the donks without McFadden then they won’t make the playoffs..
November 2nd, 2011 at 3:25 pm
If mcfadden ain’t ready then he ain’t ready no reason for set backs the season is long and would rather have him healthy vs the chargers. Ehhh. No way. McFadden is our best playmaker and, when healthy, the best back in the league in my mind. He’s started every game so far this year even though he missed most of the last one.
Draft picks are overrated. Half of all first-rounders are busts. Odds are very slim of getting another McFadden-type playmaker in round 1 or 2. Can it happen, sure. But the odds are not in your favor.

The problem I have is, you don’t rest McFadden, if he’s at all close to ready with the thought you need him for the BIG game against SD. What if by saving him you lose to Denver? It’s gonna be tough enuff to beat SD “WITH” McFadden.
McFadden is arguably our best player. To say we don’t deserve the playoffs anyway if we can’t win w/o our best player is like saying Pitt. doesn’t deserve to go cuz they lost Big Ben, or the Pats don’t deserve it cuz they didn’t win a game without Brady.
It may be a stretch to compare losing DMAC with losing those guys but if DMAC is our best player…

Waiving Hagan is a mistake. He’s proven he can make plays when given the chance. We seemed to be forcing the ball to DHB. Defenses will pick up on that and start jumping his routes. We need DMAC but if he needs another week,we should beat he donkeys with an overdose of bush and jones. We need to get Boss more involved in the offense with underneath routes.
Hue is banking a lot on his past connections and I hope it works. We can still make the playoffs but we got to start getting more consistent and stable with the line up. Murphy,Moore and Ford can make plays as well. Give them the opportunity

I think the thinking was, Chaz has same size, more speed, more upside and the Raiders drafted him…I honestly think Hagan was a camp body, got hot, and was a better blocker than people thought. I agree – and i dont know if they werent ready to pull the plug on Louis Murphy. Chaz has scored in some clutch games (v Texans, last year in finale against Chiefs). I agree, Hagan got a raw deal, but its not like he’s Calvin Johnson. The problem is will Houshmanzadeh run his mouth, alienate some of the younger players? If he backs up his smack, great. There are guys that are just like that – maybe it will challenge the younger players to step there game up.
