Status quo with Raiders — no McFadden, McClain, et al

Running back Darren McFadden and middle linebacker Rolando McClain are not practicing today, as has been the case since the Raiderss last played a game.

McFadden was spotted leaving the facility on crutches Wednesday, with his right foot in a walking boot. All signs point to his missing Sunday’s game against the Denver Broncos.

Things aren’t so certain with McClain. He has been on the practice field, getting in some light jogging, taking in things, waiting for his left leg to get better.

Cornerbacks Chris Johnson and Chimdi Chekwa also still aren’t able to practice as a result of lingering hamstring injuries. Chekwa has been working with a trainer off to the side the past few days. Johnson has been out of sight the whole time.

Therefore, you can expect to see Lito Sheppard make his Raiders debut Sunday, and play a great deal. He was signed Monday.

There still isn’t definitive word, or otherwise, on whether Sunday’s game will sell out in time for it to be televised locally. The Raiders have until 1:05 p.m. today, unless they ask for, and receive, a one-day extension.

The Raiders have sold out all four of their regular-season home games this season. It helped that each of those four games had a built-in appeal — the home-opener, a game against the New England Patriots, a game against the Cleveland Browns on the heels of an emotional victory over the Houston Texans and the passing of managing general partner Al Davis, and a game against the AFC West rival Kansas City Chiefs, which featured the Raiders debut of quarterback Carson Palmer.

The Broncos are 2-5 and lack much drawing power, other than the presence of dynamic quarterback Tim Tebow.

Yesterday after I cruised from the blog to party serious on my VIP-only Reggae Party Boat, Nob Raider and Peemore Bush had a girly sob session to get over the humiliations they suffered at my hand.

It was pretty awesome, reminded me of that time Brenda and Kelly wept in each other’s arms because they weren’t invited to the West Beverly High prom.

I’m sure my humble minions will be back today for more punishment, so check back soon for another classic Beeecham style slap down!

Just watched the Behind the Shield they posted today on Raiders.com of TJ and Jeanette Thompson. From his past two interviews (this 1 on 1, and his brief media interview yesterday), I can definitely tell dude is a stand-up hold nothing back type of cat. Yea, I think it’s easy to tell he’s somewhat of an a$$hole too (Lol), but I can see more so now from these interviews (especially today’s) why Hue brought him in. Maybe he just feels the WR core needs a kick in the a$$. Heck, maybe he isn’t even around next year, and maybe Hue just wants him more so for his personality in an effort to build the bully mentality this year. When she asked him about the reception he got from his teammates, it’s easy to tell it obviously wasn’t a good reception because he stressed it’ll take time for them to get to know each other, and never once said it was good. I respect that dude is all business, and as much as I hate knowing that he’s probably gonna bump heads with more than a few people; it could work out in the long run for the team’s psyche. Hue wants more fire from everyone I’m sure, and I think he knows TJ will light that match. Could be ugly at times, but I think what Hue is doing with this move will pan out. I at least feel a lot better about it today than the other day. It’s kinda funny how easily you can tell dude is an a$$hole! Gotta admit though, as a Raider fan, I’m loving that…..

Ya’ll gotta watch the interview though and lemme know what ya think……

Desperately need Housh because the run game is going to stall and Palmer isn’t ready to air it all over the place if it does…with the WRs we had.

With Housh, at least they had chemistry and familiarity to try and go with

Apparently, the Oakland Raiders just haven’t had enough skill-position combinations this season.

So, here comes T.J. Houshmandzadeh. The Raiders are adding the veteran receiver to an offense that has used more skill-position combinations than any team in the NFL this season. Through seven games, the 4-3 Raiders have used 171 personnel combinations at receiver, tight end and in the backfield. It is 19 more combinations than Jacksonville, which has used the second-most combinations, and much higher than the league average. Only 13 teams have had more than 100 combinations.

Expect Oakland’s numbers to rise when Houshmandzadeh, who was signed Tuesday, gets in the mix as soon as Sunday against Denver. Houshmandzadeh caught 34 touchdown passes in five seasons from new Oakland quarterback Carson Palmer while they were in Cincinnati.

I think the reason why Oakland has had so many personnel combinations at skill positions are three fold.

They have had injuries at all five spots.

Hue Jackson is looking for the right receiver combinations as he has many talented players, but he has yet to settle on a top receiving tandem.

Jackson is creative and his offense revolves around rotations and keeping defenses off balance.

Jackson has used two combinations a team-leading 24 times. Here they are:

Kevin Boss, Darren McFadden, Darrius Heyward-Bey, Manase Tonga, Denarius Moore.

Derek Hagan, McFadden, Marcel Reece, Brandon Myers, Moore.

The second combination won’t happen again. Hagan was cut to make room for Houshmandzadeh. The first combination will likely decrease because Reece is healthy and Tonga will likely play less. Thus, expect the combination bingo to continue in Oakland.

Can’t wait for Sunday. We now have a legit QB and a WR that can go over the middle to catch the ball. Hopefully Hue sticks to the run game and play the pass off that.

  • kellygreenninja

I think Sheppard will do well. Saw him at the Seahawks game, and although there were some completions on him, he was right there, not wildly out of position. Looked like he was aware, knew what was going on, and confident out there. I almost think Al didn’t care for him because he’s 2-4 inches shorter than the Raiders and didn’t look like a prototypical Raiders cornerback. (As for whether or not he excels in press coverage, I can’t answer to that, because if he doesn’t, that could be another reason.)

Haha, would be funny though! I think TJ will be alright as far as meshing with the fellas. Just gonna take some time. The fact he’s a hothead and he also took the job of someone who was viewed as one of the hardest workers and a good locker room guy will have some reluctant to embrace him fully, but as long as he produces, he’ll be alright. I still don’t see him personally seeing the field on Sunday unless it’s a 4 WR set, but then again; never know with Hue.
