Jackson officially not ruling McFadden out

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Tuesday, November 8th, 2011 at 1:57 pm in Oakland Raiders.

For what it’s worth, Raiders coach Hue Jackson told the San Diego media by conference call he wasn’t ruling Darren McFadden out of the Chargers game Thursday night.

An NFL Network headline said McFadden was out against the Chargers, the story below it said he was “expected” to be out.

Considering McFadden wasn’t on the field Monday and has made himself scarce since being spotted on crutches last week, it would be a big surprise were he to play against San Diego.

The Raiders media window to practice begins at 3:15 p.m.

How much was McClain missed on Sunday?

11:55 Steve Corkran: Not much. He wouldn’t have made much of a difference. Darryl Blackstock played well early on. Like the others, he got worse in the second half.

    ==========

Don;t worry PriestTJ. Even Steve with his “17 years of experience convering the Raiders” doesn’t know wtf he’s talking about sometimes.

If U call 1.5 tackles, falling on the pile 3 times and whiffing on a golden opportunity for an unlblocked sack up the middle “fine” and claim McClain would’ve made no difference you need to rewatch the game.

Blackstock was sub par at best…

  4. KoolKell Says:

When you can answer all those, then you go, ‘What happened?’ And then that’s when the player has to stand up and say, ‘OK, we didn’t get it done.’ ”

Outside linebacker Aaron Curry shot the wrong gap on Willis McGahee’s 60-yard touchdown run, and middle linebacker Darryl Blackstock was slow to react and got caught in some traffic on the left side. Thus the image of what looked like McGahee running through the Grand Canyon.

How many of you like me were yelling for Curry to NOT hit Tebow when he was running out of bounds on that 2nd or 3rd and 20 play in the 4th?? It went something like, ‘no, no, don’t, no…….F$CK!! Flag.

We don’t draft until our compensatory pick in the 3rd, which is at the end of the 3rd and pretty much an early 4th.

Any QB worth his salts, will pretty much be drafted already by than, just like this past year when 8 guys were drafted in the top 50 picks, than like 3 guys the whole rest of the draft.

Any QB available when we pick first, will stink.

The screen pass to Reece that was batted down was going for a big gain, they never tried it again. Go figure.

  26. Just Fire Baby Says:

Not sure why Hue looks at every 3rd and 3 or 4 as a passing down.

Draws can be very effective in those situations, especially if the D is in some type of Dime/Nickle formation.

It’s like he fancies himself as a meaner, tougher Mike Martz.

  27. KoolKell Says:

The Raiders (4-4) raised the white flag against the run, and plenty of yellow flags were waved at them. They had 15 penalties for 130 yards Sunday. With 84 for 730 yards this season, they are on pace for 168 and 1,460, which would shatter both team (156 and 1,276) and NFL records (158 and 1,304 by the Chiefs in 1998).

Jackson says benching players for blown assignments and penalties is not the easy solution people think it is.

“Right now, we’re not the healthiest football team, so I’m sitting them down to play who?” Jackson asked.

The Raiders have lost defensive end Matt Shaughnessy and linebacker Travis Goethel for the season because of injuries, starting cornerback Chris Johnson has been out with a groin injury, and starting middle linebacker Rolando McClain missed Sunday’s game with an ankle injury.

  29. LA to TheBay Says:

Wimbley hasn’t had the production you’d like to see but disaster? Not sure about that.

Only defender (starter) that’s been really disappointing is Huff and that’s because he’s injured and out of position. Routt has been average.

Otherwise, it’s a team effort in losing.

1- I have a problem with Hue suddenly making the raiders a passing team with Palmer. Its clear that teams that become one dimensional always loose. And also it takes the toughness out of the team. Just ask the broncos who bullied the raiders defense with 300 yards rushing.

2- Sorry to be anti raider here, but even if the raiders were looking ahead to the SD game, they wont win at SD. If Tebow did that to them, expect Rivers to score at leats 5 TD’s. This has the makings of a charger blowout win.

3- After that SD game, raiders have to get on a roll, with a better QB play from Palmer. Play Palmer like JC, a game manager, and he can be much better that the savior on offense.

4-We need to run the ball, period. I dont care if its Marcel Reece or T Jones, or another not named Bush. We need to gain at least 150 yards at SD to win. The O line has better play their game of the season this Thursday.

Losing to Denver with Tim Tebow at QB is inexcusable and unacceptable.

Only a playoff win this season will erase the damage done to Hue Jackson’s coaching resume in my opinion.

Denver is flat out horrible and Tim Tebow is a joke at the QB position.

Letting him come into their house and throw TD passes and rush for over a hundred yards is beyond reprehensible.

Hue Jackson should get on his knees and thank whatever God he believes in that Al Davis is not alive because he would not have a job after this season.

He owes the organization, the players, and the fans for the debacle he presided over this past Sunday.

Against Rivers this would be the kiss of death. SD has basically an average running game. River and the big recievers fuel that offense. “Fumbalina” Matthews has been less than they expected. They run a lot of deeper pass routes which falls a little more into our strengths. The big plus for them is Rivers has been uncanny at converting 3rd downs. The Raiders defense has got to look for the deep outs, and Gates on 3rd downs and get off the field. Those are the Dischargers bread and butter plays.

A note of optimism about Carson Palmer
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on November 8, 2011, 5:50 PM EST
With Florio having a travel day Tuesday, I guest hosted on PFT Live.

That meant I could request a guest, and Greg Cosell of NFL Films was the first guy I wanted to hear from. He watches all the film as producer for the best football show on television (NFL Matchup). He goes for truth, not hype.

Carson Palmer’s first start in Oakland didn’t get a lot of hype. He struggled to move the ball at the end of the game.

After watching the film, however, Cosell saw plenty of things to like.

“I know everybody is focused on the interceptions, but I thought the Palmer threw the ball extremely well. I thought he read coverage well,” Cosell said. “He made about three or four ‘Wow’ throws. He looked comfortable in the pocket. . . . He had good velocity.”

So much for Palmer’s arm strength being an issue after the layoff from football.

    ————

He looked like an All Pro for about 12-15 throws between 1st and 2nd INTs.

    Obviously, the problem being INTs.

2nd one hurt bad. Kind of don’t expect the D to allow a slow RB to go 60 untouched to the house on the very next play, but the INT hurt either way you look at it.

That’s one where you go conservative and play field position on that 3rd and long. Or a screen, draw, something.

That being said, the decision was sound, throw was just too high.

I don’t get all of the backlash. Some say “Hue is drunk with power”. How is getting players that will help the team being drunk with Power? Who the heck else was going to make moves for the Raiders when Cambell went down? (I like Cambell, but if he knew how to freakin slide, we wouldn’t have to look for a QB in the first place.)Who else in the front office was going to do anything? We got Palmer (great move IMO) who the heck else was there? He looked at Gerrard (hurt) maybe Vince, Carson was the only one available and unfortunately in a bad predicament. We trade a first and a second. Big freakin deal! How many First round picks are currently on the squad now?? He did not squander the future of the team, the future of the team is already ON the team, if you can understand what Hue is talking about when he said the time is NOW.
Some say he has an ego. Really? Being confident in the players that you coach is being arrogant? I would play for a coach that was confident in his players any day!
Some say too much camera time. Really? WTH is he supposed to do, get on a conference call? Send an e-mail? Tweet? Facebook? He is supposed to do media time. Personally I never known another time wihin the last decade have the Raiders had as much media attention, it’s good people! Of course we have to win in the process!
Calling Hue an idiot, over his head and the such is not carefully evaluating the WHOLE situation.
4-2 before injuries (everyone was happy jumping for joy)
0-2 afterwards (the whole world is now ending and Hue sucks), after he lost his STARTING QB who the offense was built around. We have not had a successful and consistently producing offense in YEARS, unlike the Patriots who could put a backup in (Cassel) and succeed after the starting QB went down. We had Boller, and we saw what happened, would you rather have that than CP3?? New QB, different skills means your offense WILL change, especially with DMC out of the picture, this takes time to do. Despite the 3 picks, he looked good, especially his arm strength (elbow) and being able to take a hit below (knee). Those were my concerns, he’ll be alright…

Hue the blame for this loss? Only if he get’s credit for the wins as well! That loss to the Broncos was pitiful and embarrassing, however all the D had to do was contain Tebow that’s it and FAILED drastically the D and only the D is at fault! First place is not a bad place to be in! I thouht this was the freakin RAIDER NATION! LEt’s not be like the media wants us to be and start turning on the team, there is plenty of season left and if the D can play decent ball we will be in the playoffs!
