Raiders could face line juggling
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Tuesday, November 8th, 2011 at 3:37 pm in Oakland Raiders.
Right tackle Khalif Barnes (shoulder) and center Samson Satele (knee) were riding exercise bikes as the Raiders went through warmups and it remains to be seen if they’ll be ready to play Thursday night in San Diego.
Neither man went through the team walkthrough Monday.
If Barnes and Satele were unable to play, the offensive line would probably be Stephon Heyer at right tackle, Cooper Carlisle at right guard, Stefen Wisniewski at center, Joe Barksdale at left guard and Jared Veldheer at right tackle. Bruce Campbell, who has been playing both right guard and tackle of late, could be active after being inactive for the past three games.
Running back Darren McFadden was not present, and likely will be declared out Wednensday on the team’s injury report. Middle linebacker Rolando McClain was present, although it’s not known if he’ll get in any practice time. Also not practicing was free safety and nickel back Michael Huff, who remains in a walking boot to protect an injured ankle. Cornerback DeMarcus Van Dyke (hamstring) didn’t appear to be practicing, although Chimdi Chekwa (hamstring) was on the field.
Coach Hue Jackson and players are available following practice.

Not having DMC in the offense really slows it down. Palmer will be better than Campbell in this offense. Throws Campbell would never attempt Palmer made Sunday – WOW balls. Denver played good defense.
Now that defense was a travesty 2H. Thats the 2nd time that sht’s happened this season. Something is seriously wrong on that side of the ball and I think it starts with Chuck B.

Anyone who would criticize Palmer in ANY WAY after 1.5 games here is a dummass. Palmer did a great job, reading the defense, he was given the authority to check out of plays which he did repeatedly, always to the right call. He is BY FAR the best Q we have had here in decades. The picks were the result of him giving his guys opportunities to make plays. Our guys didn’t make the play, their guys did make the play. That, right there, is the difference between winning and losing.

The Dischargers defense is really reeling this year. their run defense is average at best, and we have a better pass defense statistically then they do. They have some hurt guys back there, but Cason has been a bust of (almost) Jamarcus type bloated proportion. With Phillips out, there goes their pass rush. And I wonder if losing Ron Rivera hurt? Maybe they should have bagged on Norphus and kept Rivera.

I am convinced that Cork is a bias reporter. And you would think that after all those years as beat reporter he would at least break one major story about the Raiders. But now we know that no one talks to him, and no one knows and says nothing about last Saturday meeting, of course it’s a Raiders story reported by someone else. And he dismisses the story, by saying that it must have been started by a disgruntled player’s agent.
Wow! As the Cork world turns, did a player actually told him that an agent started the rumor, or is this something that Cork figured out from his 17 years on the beat?
I love his “report” on why DHB had minimal participation against the donkeys. Finally Cork has been vindicated as a talent evaluator by HueJax’s “demotion” of DHB to 6th in the WRs depth-chart. Now we know where HueJax is getting his ideas, he should hire Cork tomorrow.

Mistic,
Is Campbell a leader while he’s on the sideline collecting a paycheck? We were all but guaranteed 4-12 with Boller at QB. Palmer is 10 times better than Campbell. The defense has been sucking win and costing us winnable games. Our offense is not the problem!

Time for EVERYBODY to grow a pair and get the job done! Please EVERYBODY stop all those BS excuses and do your damn jobs which you are very well compensated for. THE RAIDER NATION demands nothing more than total victory. No need to build a bully, just build a committed football team, and the bullying will eventually take care of itself. Hammer it down the chargers throats, and once they are completely f****d then you can call your fancy plays. Please play to the team’s strengths, and oh yeah “JUST WIN BABY!”

Your opinion is like 99% of the blog but what is it based on looking at the numbers jc is better, if you like less picks, & clutch play on 3rd down & in the 4th quarter.
These are what I looked at in my comparison the numbers that really count. Yards & tds are offset by picks the more you throw the less you can be viewed as good. Jc threw eight picks last year, Palmer threw a mind numbing 20 & has 6 in 1 1/2 games!

I know seymour and kelly get bashed alot on here, but if anyone has every played interior def line..your job is gap control. Watching the game film, the defensive ends didnt hold the edge and the line backers didnt fill the correct holes.. Its a team game and no Defense takle can dominate if he has no help

I was his main supporter from before he even was hired as coordinator.
I have been a coach & a player in sports, & the team must be able to take your word to the bank. Hue jack is now officially suspect in my book because his word has failed

It’s our D that’s killing us , turnovers need to be limited too but the team across the bay isn’t winning by the Offense , it’s their D always keeping them in the game wether they turn it over on turnover or 3 and outs their D is the reason their winning and our D is responsible for 3 of the 4 losses this season …
November 8th, 2011 at 4:57 pm

Mistic,
I was fine with Campbell, OK? He got flattened and is out for the year, OK? Now. It’s accept 4-12 and pray that Campbell can play a full season next year, or try to improve your QB for the next 3 years. It was a tough decision, but Hue had the CAJONES to make the RIGHT move! With this defense, I am not convinced you will see it this season, but I guarantee it Palmer will bring this team to the playoffs in 2012. Of course, I’m assuming somebody that gets paid to make these decisions improves our DEFENSE!

“What was the point of watching film of Tim Tebow read optioning his way to 112 yards rushing and setting up Willis McGahee for 163 yards when the Raiders won’t see that kind of offense the rest of the season?
The need to correct basic assignment football, according to Jackson as well as defensive tackle Richard Seymour and defensive coordinator Chuck Bresnahan.
Bresnahan said film work included eight or nine plays from the first half when the defense did most things right, juxtaposed with second half film which showed them doing just about everything wrong. Bresnahan called it “disturbing” and promised to get it fixed. He said he wants off the roller coaster.”

Good post this guys want to kill Hue for what he’s doing , they think it’s easy to freaking come in as a rookie coach and work with a young team and deal with Injuries to our startin. Qb and starting Rb and Half of our secondary and with a D coach that he didnt even wanted , even Coach Cable got to bring in his own D coordinator even though the scheme wasn’t going to change ..

Riding Boller would have been a disaster, Palmer offers hope to a roster of men that presumably want to win now.
I’m in DHB’s corner, but to suggest he’s a leader is a reach. He has not produced a large enough body of work to be seen that way by his peers.
……….
Disagree he was the most productive wr on the roster. He was one of the guys that has been first in & last to leave setting the tone ( with jc) & the work ethic for the entire team. His professional growth along jc’s & dmac’s growth & contribution made them the leaders . They could say follow us & reap the benefit. Do it like we do it and win, & they did.
They struggled were malingned put in the work and improved together which in turn elevated the entire team validated Davis’s faith & made hue jack look good.

The problems on this team resides strictly with the defense.
Offense has twice put up over 24+ points with double digit leads at halftime….and this defense has done its best to give away the game.
The only problem I have with the offense is not going back to running the ball. Bush should be given 25 carries period.
Hue is acting very foolish trying to become this gunslinging team overnight. There is nothing wrong with pounding the rock and selectively taking shots downfield.

Mistic,
I appreciate you have coached and I do believe in team chemistry. Would there be any excuse for veterans like Richard Seymour and Tommy Kelly to be upset that Carson Palmer is the new “leader” of the offense? These guys are paid big money to play and LEAD the defense. I don’t see the correlation here, since the changes were made on offense. Defense is the entire problem we are facing going to San Diego and the foreseeable future. Agree? Disagree? I want feedback!
November 8th, 2011 at 5:15 pm
I’m already thinking about how hue jack can fix it if it tanks. Bring in Vince young next year & let him challenge Palmer even if Palmer wins we have a guy that can come in when he falters or gets injured. I thnk Vince young would be good in hue jacks offense. Or draft RGIII

I love the line “bungles infused fireball of misery” awesome…I hope THAT doesn’t come to pass. (no pun intended)
Regarding DHB, I can’t go along with JUST the hardwork aspect. Agreed he was to date, the most productive WR, but J Ford was limited for a few games due to the hammy.
I also played a little ball and respected the hard workers, but the hardworking “accomplished” guy(s) were the ones that got my attention.
DHB will continue to get better and more productive, but I don’t think that Ford, or D Moore will be looking to Him for leadership.

Hue needs to just call a standard game. I was nervous watching CP doing the hurry-up and audibles at the line….also not sure I understand this thing about certain sets keeping the number 1 receiver off the field and taking away a safety valve in Boss.
Hue has no consistency to his game calling and seems to want to go for it all..its a marathon, not a sprint.
I also think he gives up on the run too quickly. Bush is a guy that needs 20+ carriers and the more he gets later in the game the more effective…but if you flip out after 1 three and out….team won’t be succesfull.

Takes Raider football way too seriously, like a gang.
Goes to games, gets extremely intoxicated.
Raiders loss was brutal Sunday, embarrassing.
I’d say it’s almost eminent that Brien got into a fight and got thrown in jail. Probably can’t afford bail, and will be in county jail for 30 days or something.

Yeah, you’re probably right. He seemed like he was going to lose his marbles after the KC game. Can’t imagine what happened after that humiliating loss.

I also think he gives up on the run too quickly. Bush is a guy that needs 20+ carriers and the more he gets later in the game the more effective…but if you flip out after 1 three and out….team won’t be succesfull.
——————————————————
Wasn’t one 3 and out, it was back to back 3 and outs.
Factor in Denver was scoring and actually took the lead, we had to pass.
Again, I’ll say that you couldn’t possibly be complaining about the first half where were UP 17-7, right?

“Approximately 100 people — many of them members of a tight-knit Raiders family — attended a private Oct. 17 funeral service in Oakland at Conservative Temple Beth Abraham, where Rabbi Mark Bloom was the only speaker during a 30-minute ceremony. Afterward, Davis’ casket was taken by hearse on a two-mile ride to Chapel of the Chimes mausoleum and columbarium, where the former Raiders’ head coach and owner was entombed.”
“After Davis died Oct. 8 at age 82, all details about his funeral and interment were kept secret so the family and friends could grieve privately. Davis was a longtime member at Beth Jacob Congregation, a Modern Orthodox synagogue in Oakland,”
“At the service, Bloom wore a kippah adorned with the Raiders logo and a dark silver shirt in a nod to the team’s silver-and-black color scheme. Though he did not know Al Davis, Bloom spoke about his “trailblazing ways, his sense of hospitality, his sense of doing what was right whether or not others agreed with him [and] his loyalties.”
Bloom invoked comparisons to the patriarch Abraham, which was Davis’ Hebrew name.
The pallbearers were a mix of former Raiders coaches and players: John Madden, Tom Flores, Jim Plunkett, Art Shell, Willie Brown, Cliff Branch, George Atkinson and Ted Hendricks. Bloom said other former Raiders luminaries on hand included Dave Casper, Ken Stabler and Clem Daniels.”

Jhill, you always post well. My grudge is Hue saw the game getting away early, we have guys in the booth reporting to him. When your game plan is exposed, go to plan B. How do you slow down an NFL team? Ball and Clock control. We did it very effectivly earlier this year, with the new gun slinger, it’s been forgotten. Remember what got us to where we are, it works. Balance, control tempo, move chains, TE’s in dinks, two best OL recievers on the pine? I don’t and will never buy in to this. We control ball and clock, Donky’s D is worn down, we score most possessions. 7 or 3, we add space and get the W.

I have been a Raiders fan since 1973 and I saw my first game in Oakland this past Sunday. I was in Heaven up until the score was tied 24-24. I will say Oakland had a lot more energy than LA did when the Raiders were the home team. The fans were awesome. I was not one of the fans that yelled, “Tebow sucks !” but I did yell, “Tebow can’t pass.” His receivers were so wide open for those TD’s I could have completed them.

Kell is young at heart. I was really looking forward to going to Oakland. It has been a dream for a very long time. Being from the OC and born in the LBC I was able to attend a lot of the LA and San Diego “road” games though military service and funds prevented me from going to a lot of them. I will always love the Raiders, LA or Oakland, but Oakland is like Mecca to me.
November 8th, 2011 at 6:40 pm
Hue’s going to have to completely overhaul this defense before we’re a real team. That has been proven the past 4 games. After this season, Bresh is gone, Hue picks his own DC, probably someone from Baltimore (heck yeah!). Finally, we’re competitive on both sides of the ball. Thank goodness with our new management, he can do all of this. As I said earlier, people won’t realize how profound the change will be with the Raiders until the coming off season.
November 8th, 2011 at 6:41 pm
I don’t get all of the backlash. Some say “Hue is drunk with power”. How is getting players that will help the team being drunk with Power? Who the heck else was going to make moves for the Raiders when Cambell went down? (I like Cambell, but if he knew how to freakin slide, we wouldn’t have to look for a QB in the first place.)Who else in the front office was going to do anything? We got Palmer (great move IMO) who the heck else was there? He looked at Gerrard (hurt) maybe Vince, Carson was the only one available and unfortunately in a bad predicament. We trade a first and a second. Big freakin deal! How many First round picks are currently on the squad now?? He did not squander the future of the team, the future of the team is already ON the team, if you can understand what Hue is talking about when he said the time is NOW.
Some say he has an ego. Really? Being confident in the players that you coach is being arrogant? I would play for a coach that was confident in his players any day!
Some say too much camera time. Really? WTH is he supposed to do, get on a conference call? Send an e-mail? Tweet? Facebook? He is supposed to do media time. Personally I never known another time wihin the last decade have the Raiders had as much media attention, it’s good people! Of course we have to win in the process!
Calling Hue an idiot, over his head and the such is not carefully evaluating the WHOLE situation.
4-2 before injuries (everyone was happy jumping for joy)
0-2 afterwards (the whole world is now ending and Hue sucks), after he lost his STARTING QB who the offense was built around. We have not had a successful and consistently producing offense in YEARS, unlike the Patriots who could put a backup in (Cassel) and succeed after the starting QB went down. We had Boller, and we saw what happened, would you rather have that than CP3?? New QB, different skills means your offense WILL change, especially with DMC out of the picture, this takes time to do. Despite the 3 picks, he looked good, especially his arm strength (elbow) and being able to take a hit below (knee). Those were my concerns, he’ll be alright…
Hue the blame for this loss? Only if he get’s credit for the wins as well! That loss to the Broncos was pitiful and embarrassing, however all the D had to do was contain Tebow that’s it and FAILED drastically the D and only the D is at fault! First place is not a bad place to be in! I thouht this was the freakin RAIDER NATION! LEt’s not be like the media wants us to be and start turning on the team, there is plenty of season left and if the D can play decent ball we will be in the playoffs!
November 8th, 2011 at 6:42 pm
Todd, the 64 team was interesting. It started out slow but won most of its games towards the end of the season. I have read until 1967 the Raiders had difficulty winning on the East coast and the AFL used to schedule a block of those games for the Raiders to play at the beginning of the season.

November 8th, 2011 at 6:44 pm
The problem, my guess, is that Palmer is not that much better than Jason Campbell, and at least Soup can extend plays with his quickness. But, Palmer cost is considerably higher, not just the high draft choices but the salary cap hits he’ll bring. For his supporters and admirers, he’d better win or they’ll be here looking to dump him and HueJax.
What’s the difference of going 4-12 with Boller or 6-10 with Palmer, two games? And we must remember, Campbell could still be back this season, that’s of no consequence now. However, who’s to say that Palmer will last eight games? Who’s to say that he will not get hurt? I mean the guy is a standing stature, how long before Boller is back under center anyhow? Again, Palmer cost is way too high, and there is no guarantee or warranty, HueJax can’t take the draft picks back or escape the cap hits for the next three years.
As well, as I said even before he was signed, with Palmer HueJax had to re-adjust his offensive scheme to fit Palmer. We’re already seeing the consequences that’s creating in the locker room. To top it off, HueJax brings TJ and moves him ahead in the depth chart and starts him over players who might not be as good as TJ, (I don’t think TJ is as good as TJ) but they have been working hard and deserving.
But hey, HueJax is selling it hard and a lot of you are buying it, for your sake and the Raiders, I really hope they’re right and I’m wrong. We just have to watch.
Again, without DMac and with Palmer as the main focus of the offense, the Raiders will not get very far this season, and there is no Andy Dalton to save the Raiders next season either. The Raiders are stuck with that car son, a real lemon I say.

……..
Absolute 100 % irrefutable truth!!!!

I’m not a “hairsplitter” but had Palmer not come to the Bungles with an ultimatum, He’d still be a Bungle.
Palmer rejected them, and they chose to accept His rejection.

Your lst two statements completely contradict each other. lst you say Palmer is not that much better than Campbell, but yet his cost is considerably higher. Well, there is a reason Palmer’s cost is considerably higher. He is BETTER. Much better. You might not understand that, but certainly people in the NFL do. Let me just say, if we could auction JCampbell off right now, we would NOT get a lst rounder that he was initially chosen with. I would be surprised if we got anything higher than a 4th.

There calling for Paterno’s head on the Pa papers…The worst thing, other than the horrific acts allegedly committed by sandusky, is that of last week he was on the Penn state campus , lifting weights. The complicity of spanier and others is undeniable and reprehensible. The pa governed was on campus today and I would expect paternal and spanier to go. What a terrible way to end his remarkable career…

#346,
I don’t buy a lot of what Hue is selling, but I don’t buy your whole argument, either.
I think Hue brought TJ in here because he didn’t have anyone that could play the slot. He tried with some of the guys he had but they weren’t cutting it there. Watch some of the previous games if you can; it’s pretty obvious that we had a need there.
I don’t agree with you that Hue had to readjust the scheme for Palmer. If he was forced to adjust anything it was more than likely because McFadden was out. I think Jackson almost surely felt that Palmer could do more in the passing game than Campbell and may have adjusted some things because of what he thought was a greater capability at the position, but I certainly don’t think he adjusted anything because he thought he could do LESS, or that there were things Palmer couldn’t do. In fact, some of the rollouts he designed for Jason Campbell probably had as much to do with giving him that little extra time to pull the trigger as anything. Palmer doesn’t have that problem; he gets rid of the ball on time.
As far as “seeing the consequences that’s creating in the locker room”, you may have to elaborate. I’ve heard rumors and speculation, but nothing from any player about that.
Hue needs to get this team back on track, no doubt. There have been a lot of distractions and I don’t think it’s been handled all that well, but I think that in this case Hue addressed two distinct positions of need with the best players he could find. Looking around the league, it doesn’t appear that he could have found better players than he did.

Proof that I’m not MR. I’ve always been positive about the Raiders. I’m much more of a kool-aid drinker than he is.

YOU ABSOLUTELY STATED YOU AND MR WERE THE SAME PERSON BEFORE YOU “RETIRED”

That is not true. If you didn’t notice, someone was trolling my name. That was the reason for the retirement.

Hue has been giving an extraordinary set of obsticles to overcome in 1 season, loss of Al, JC and now DMac on the shelf for an unknown period…any 1 of these would be a challenge, but all 3 in succession is a tough draw…think he’s doin the best he can, and as angry as i was Sunday/Monday, I’ve got to move forward with MY team, the team i’ve spent my whole life supporting…
If you aren’t “buying” what Hue’s selling, don’t know what to tell you, but I’M IN!
Now let’s win Thursday Nite!
