I thought the Chargers were targeted for LA. If not them then, the next logical target was the Vikings coming to SoCal.

  • L.A. Raider Dave

Yeah, keep the Raiders in Oakland where the gang members dont wear Raider gear!!

  • ghostraiders

Ask some gang member to name 3 active raider players… I double they could answer correctly. .. they primarily like the image it portrays.. I like going to Oakland. . .. fans are just more real…IMO. .

  • ElkGRaider

Raiders WILL NOT move back. LA is a town of front runners and anything new. The Raiders are neither. They will never be “trendy” and definately are not new. LA needs a team like the Jags…that way they can change the name and the uniform and call it a “new” team.

Can anyone think of some g@y LA names? You know how they do it…

  • LA to TheBay

Rod Martin an La Native said himself they dont belong in LA…go figure
    ———

    I agree with Rod.

Most LA fans will tell you this, they just wish they could get the game on TV every week.

The only way the Raider stay in the Oakland area is if they play second fiddle to the 49ers in a new stadium.

Brien, can you handle the Raiders being the LA Clippers of the NFL?

  • Method To My Madness

LA does have people who dig the Raiders of course….but overall LA just got too much schit to do…yall bzies are too fine, your coke too potent and your weather whoops ass

  • ElkGRaider

Still…the NFL thing would wear off again in LA…where a tailgate involves heading to a trendy restaurant before a game…

    ——–

    Not necessarily true.

Most of us got into the Raiders for the Image thing, but a lot of it was because we identified with them. They came from Cali, they were bad@sses, they were a winner at the time and they had Al Davis, with his middle finger to the world. We appreciated that he wanted to be in LA bad enough to go to court for it.

My experience is different, because I was a fan of the football team before anything. The colors and history are appealing but Bo Jackson and Marcus Allen really brought me in.

So happens there is no red or blue in the Raiders colors and that works well in LA.

  • L.A. Raider Dave

Raiders deserve thier own stadium. I hate seeing the dirt early in the season. If they dont get one in Oakland, then they can get one in LA. I would love if they moved back, but it doesnt affect my loyalty either way.

Settle down, I just mean in the respect that they would be second class citizens in the new stadium with the 49ers.

    Can you live with that?

Once the Raiders move to the party to Farmer’s, I’ll be having pregame jams at Spearmint Rhino or at ESPN Zone in Nokia Live.

Or if I want hot island action, I’ll be holding court in the tiki lounge at Trader Vic’s. Banged a couple waitresses there already, not bad.

It’s the New Age of Raider Tailgating – Downtown LA Style! Step up or step off.

  • Gerard

I guess when u don’t live in the area you don’t have that emotional investment. I totally get the Bay Area Raider fans feeling jipped when team moved to LA, but from an outsiders point of view, it was kinda cool to see Raiders go hollywood and be in the 2nd biggest city in the U.S. My opinion is they NEVER lost their identity as the bad boys of the league being in LA. That whole thing remained. I think alot of people saw them as the “anti LA” despite playing there. Or better said, the Raiders seemed to have embodied the “bad boy” part of LA. That was the image, and alot of people didn’t like it.

I think that is why there is still quite a contingent of Raider love in LA today; Raiders embodied that “anti hollywood” image, and many embraced it and still do.

This is what I liked about their time in LA. Oakland guys will tell you they changed when they came south and went Hollywood.

I have no basis for comparison, so I can;t say, but mostly, my experience is you got a very wide range of LA Raider fans and I always liked that the area south of the 10 was well represented by the Raiders.

But you get Marina Del Rey and Valley fans, Inland Empire fans and on and on.

I admit I have limited experience with the “Oak/LA” Raider issue, but I flew to LA from Chi. for a business trip and decided to go to the famous Venice Beach (rained all week i was there but that’s another story) and popped in this bar right off the beach and watched SD play the Jets (at home in the playoffs) and to my surprise almost EVERYBODY in that bar was rooting AGAINST SD and there were a ton of Raider shirts, hats, etc. being worn and I felt right at home.

It seemed everywhere I went in LA area I would see Raider bumper stickers, guys wearing Raider stuff etc. and I would chat some of them up and ask about their allegiance to the Raiders. I’d tell them I was from Chicago and all that and one asked me “why aren’t u a Bears fan then?” I told him that’s just the way it is, and that I grew up loving the bad boy Raiders. He eemed surprised. He told me there’s tons of Raider fans in LA.

Anyway, I have much love for the folks out there. I’ve been lots of places and the folks in Southern Cal. were some of the coolest folks I’ve ever met.

  • L.A. Raider Dave

Poking fun of LA’s drug, gang and homeless problem might be taken more seriously if it wasnt coming from someone in Oakland. I’m from East LA and I roll my windows up and lock my doors when i roll into town!

  • Better off with Roski’s site to be honest…no tailgating in dowtown venue…lame

    “““““““““““““““““““““““““““`
The Raiders belong in Oakland, and should remain there.

That being said, IF they were to move down here. On a purely selfish note, Roski’s proposed stadium is only 15mi. +or- from my front door..

But, Roski will probably come up short. NFL wants the downtown stadium, with the Powder Blue Peter Puffers in it..

I lived in LA back in the 80’s and certainly loved having my Raiders playing there, winning a Superbowl and turning the whole place into a Raider loving asylum. But I remember when they moved back to Oakland I wasn’t bummed or anything because when you see OAKLAND Raiders it just sounds and looks right.
I hope they stay forever. It doesn’t have the same feel or something if it doesn’t say Oakland. It just fits.

  • Gerard

I definitely walked away from my visit to So. Cal. thinking there was some kind of “rivalry” and animosity between LA folks and San Diego.

Maybe motly due to my ‘Venice Beach experience’ i guess.

It was fun tuning to a SD radio station and hearing the post game of the loss to the Jets.
