CB Lambert prevails in mass tryout
By Steve Corkran
Wednesday, November 16th, 2011 at 8:24 am in Oakland Raiders.
As it turns out, the Raiders also worked out linebackers Nate Triplett and Keaton Kistrick, as well as defensive end Carl Ihenacho earlier this week.
They were part of nine players who tried out. Cornerback Terrail Lambert is the only one offered a contract. He was signed to the Raiders practice squad.
The Raiders didn’t reveal the names of any of the nine players. Five of the players were identified through locker-room introductions. Three others were revealed by Aaron Wilson of Scout. com, courtesy of the league’s personnel report.
In other news, cornerback John Bowie signed with the Cincinnati Bengals on Wednesday. He was a fourth-round draft pick of the Raiders in 2007 that never panned out.
His name resonates around these parts because he was selected with the draft pick the Raiders received from the New England Patriots in a trade for wide receiver Randy Moss.

We should have kept Howard for passing downs.
Our LB’s in coverage suck, it’s a matter of time before an opponent kills us with passes to speedy backs out of the backfield.

I understand the logic, but if it were that easy everybody could just get rich betting on nothing but home dogs.
**************************
Usually, there is only a couple each week, and the theory is that home teams win 55% of the games each year, and thus getting points on top of that helps put the odds in your favor.
Remember, that’s all it is. Trying to find a way that the odds are in your favor and than cross your fingers. That is the essence of gambling.

Moore Bush often.
November 16th, 2011 at 8:32 am
Thankfully Adrian Peterson can’t catch a cold, so our issues covering RB’s out of the backfield will have to wait for next week.
But I agree with Joe, Wimbley and Curry are useless in coverage. McClain is solid though, just need him to work on his hands. He has dropped probably a half dozen potential INT’s his first year and a half.

Yes, as soon as possible. Hue needs to concentrate on his duties as head coach. If we can’t hire the right guy until the offseason, then so be it. But if there is someone available now, then hire him now, just to be a check on Hue’s affinity for wending out draft picks.
I think the Palmer trade was what we needed and wasn’t too bad, but we can’t do anything else like that for a while.

I hear you, but I prefer to look at it based on matchups and looking for disparities in how a team is actually performing as I see it, as opposed to public perception of how good or bad that team really is and trying to gain an edge in that way.
In this instance I’m not high on Denver’s long-term prospects of sustaining this style of offense. I can’t see Tebow being anything but a disaster trying to throw against Revis and Cromartie. And I really can’t see a Rex Ryan defense getting burned by the read-option. So I’m going more on the matchup aspect of it.
The Vikings are an instance where I think there’s a vast disparity between public perception and how good/bad they are. However, the line in this Vikings-Raiders game, to me, reflects more on their actual performance level rather than the public perception that they must stink. So I won’t touch that one.

Curry did hit McNeil hard, but that guy was an injury waiting to happen.
He got hurt on that play, the 4th play of the game, and left for the rest of the game.
Two weeks earlier against the Jets, he got hurt on the 2nd play of the game (same injury), and left for the rest of the game.
McNeil was just waiting to be finished off by anyone willing to rack him, and I think his career is pretty much done.

Dakota, as I said earlier, that’s just the hand we were dealt. Nobody knew our owner was going to die midseason. Because of this, Hue is the Coach/GM. We bring in a GM, he’s just going to butt heads with him. Unless, of course, Hue brings in one of his guys, where in that case Hue will still be the defacto GM. This is the hand we were dealt. And, as it stands, we’re playing good football. Why rock the boat? Let’s let Hue do his thing. We’re not a 12 win team knocking on the door of the SB by next year, he’s gone, we bring in a GM.

Curry, garbage? I don’t know about that.
His knock has always been his pass coverage, the Raids knew what they were getting.
Would you prefer Groves back in the line-up?
+++++++++++++++++
He was completely out of position on two of denvers run TDs and failed in his coverage on a pass TD in that game too.
I never thought Groves was the best, but I certainly do not recall him having a game like that…
—————–
You’re probably right…but you have to remember, McClain was playing during those games!
McClain and Curry need each other, they bring out the best in each other….
Like peanut butter and jelly, salt and pepper, rice and beans, aroz con pollo, ketchup and mustard, coffee and donuts, tetas y nalgas….you get my picture?

One thing is for sure, this team hasn’t had the benefit of being able to field a healthy squad, on both sides of the ball. This year has been challenging with all the injuries, trades… new QB, different personnel etc. All teams have their injuries but man, we havent caught a break.
November 16th, 2011 at 9:16 am
Curry looks GREAT against the run but I fear he may be a liability in pass coverage. Sometimes he seems to completely lose track of the guy he’s supposed to be guarding. I think he can be coached up though. I think he’s physically capable of covering backs and TEs, but his technique seems poor.
Maybe he can spend some time with Rod Woodson.

Curry was not supposed to be covering Eddie Royal on that TD pass. Van Dyke bit hard on the run fake and left Royal uncovered.
Funny you blame Curry for that last TD. His responsibility appreared to be Tebow who had been running up and down the field. If he takes the RB and Tebow keeps it for another big run, he a lump too then, right? And are you really telling me that the other 10 guys on the field, or at least 3 or 4 of them on that side didn’t have any role on the RB going untouched to the end zone?
Curry is a BEAST!!!

Miami, if Hue doesn’t work out, then we should do what Wolf said and hire McKenzie as GM, let him choose our next coach. I say we give Hue till next year to make us a legitimate SB team. Let him run it all, like he more or less already is. We’re only getting better and better while he’s doing this, so there’s no reason to stop. The circumstances (Al passing) put us in this unique situation. Of course nobody would hire Hue Jackson to be a coach/GM. But under the circumstances here, that’s what he is, and it’s working.

This year at game 11 the Raids have a total of 23 sacks, whist giving up 11 sacks.

Bush (I’m not going to mention names) is throwing someone under the bus!

It’s all in how you look at it.
Because players and coaches (heck, and fans for that matter) are gushing about what they have now doesn’t mean you don’t appreciate what you had before.
I don’t think he is throwing Campbell under the bus at all.

Take what the defense give us.
If Minny adjusts to getting beat deep a couple of times, then yeah run against those 6 man fronts.
If they stack the box, pick them apart with the pass.

The pressure will be on Oakland’s run defense Sunday when the Raiders face Vikings RB Adrian Peterson for the first time. In their four losses, the Raiders have allowed an average of 209.5 rushing yards. In their five wins they’ve allowed just 69.6 rushing yards. Raiders RapidReports

I don’t think Minny is dumb enough to ignore our passing game, so I don’t think we will see a lot of stacked boxes. Palmer was smart enough to call a lot of run plays when he was running the no huddle. I think he did a masterful job of taking what the defense gave us.

Yeah Huff’s strength is clearly balls thrown deep down the field. His underneath coverage is always a lil too late everytime, not to mention he normally gets in positon to tackle and uses his arms too much. branch and Mitchell come up on plays well but fail turning and running unlike Huff.

We should have kept Howard for passing downs.

Dude signed a two year, $6.5M dollar deal with the Bengals. I don’t see how the Raiders could fit that kind of money under the cap for a nickel LB. For that money, he has to be an every down starter.
November 16th, 2011 at 10:48 am
The bad thing about Howard is That he was worthless against the run… we need complete NFL linebackers… not specialty guys… curry needs to step up and do both or gtfo! !
