RB McFadden, WRs Ford and Moore not practicing
By Steve Corkran
Wednesday, November 23rd, 2011 at 10:52 am in Oakland Raiders.
As expected, running back Darren McFadden and wide receiver Jacoby Ford aren’t practicing today. In a surprising development, receiver Denarius Moore is watching practice with a protective boot on his right foot.
Backup running back Taiwan Jones also isn’t practicing as a result of the hamstring injury he suffered Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings. Receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey is at practice, though he isn’t participating. He is watching without the neck brace he was sporting after the neck injury he received against the Vikings.
So, as of now, the Raiders projected starting lineup against the Chicago Bears on Sunday would feature Michael Bush at running back, with Louis Murphy and Chaz Schilens at the wide receiver spots and Bryan McCann returning punts and kicks.
Moore got dinged up at some point of the Vikings game. However, he appeared fine afterward and he was not mentioned by coach Hue Jackson on the injury report after the game.
If Moore can’t go, the Raiders also would need to find someone else to return punts. McCann is the logical candidate to replace Moore on punt returns and Ford on kick returns.
Rock Cartwright is in line to get some action at running back for the first time if McFadden and Jones can’t play. He has not run the ball at all through the first 10 games.
Bush rushed 30 times in each of the past two games. That workload might go up even more if he is the lone healthy back Sunday.
Defensive tackle Richard Seymour (knee) and defensive end Lamaar Houston (hamstring) also aren’t practicing today. Seymour played a bit against the Vikings despite missing all four practices the week before.
Fullback Manase Tonga and middle linebacker Rolando McClain are practicing, as is center Samson Satele three days after he suffered a concussion.

That’s a big blow.

Dmac, please get healthy.

What’s up with all the foot injuries and protective boots this year?
November 23rd, 2011 at 10:58 am
Don’t worry my boy Chaz is made of titanium! He will be healthy the rest of the practice …
November 23rd, 2011 at 10:59 am
I figured DMAC would be back this week. I’m surprised he is healing this slowly. What a shame after looking like the best back in football for a month.
Please put a contract in Bush’s hands like yesterday, Mark.
November 23rd, 2011 at 10:59 am
F it, those other WRs get paychecks too. Time to step up and earn ‘em….we know what Murphy can do when he’s not being a yag, and we have a healthy Schilens…
So whose the fastest receiver that’s gonna be out there – Murphy? Hope he brings some Mr. Fantastic stretch arms this game and leaves the T-Rex arms in the locker.
November 23rd, 2011 at 11:00 am
I saw Moore get up a little shaky after one play. Was afraid of this.
I could see Chaz having a monster day though. Probably going to have to throw a bit more this week. Carson will find out he can trust him to use his big body and hands to go up and grab the ball in a crowd.
November 23rd, 2011 at 11:01 am
Maybe this is the game we’ve been waiting for from Chaz?

Here’s Chazs chance to show Sapp what he’s all about and here’s Murphys chance to show he’s still an NFL player. We badly need to Murphy to spread the D vertically
November 23rd, 2011 at 11:11 am
If murphy does not show for this game then he should be cut. He has been a major disapointment this season. no excuse. He should get plenty of playing time with the other guys limited.
November 23rd, 2011 at 11:12 am
Gut feeling:
- Taiwan Jones: out
- DHB: out
- Moore: In, won’t return punts
- DMac: Out, will return next week
- Ford: Out, will return next week
- Seymour: In
- Houston: In
November 23rd, 2011 at 11:12 am
Sapp is just mad because Richard Seymour came in and showed him how real men play ball. Seymour has done everything Sapp was suppose to do but, Seymour is twice the player Sapp will ever be!
November 23rd, 2011 at 11:12 am
Chaz and the skeleton WR crew have to get open and make plays or else bush will get beat up and if bush gets hurt …… uhhhhhhhhhhh ????? palmer can hand off to reece, tonga, rock and maybe even boller lol
November 23rd, 2011 at 11:14 am
That Hagan/TJ Housh swap isn’t looking great right no. If Ford, Moore and DHB are out, I’d have more faith in a Hagan-Schilens starting WR mix right now and Taiwan Jones is also a gunner on punt coverage — a role Hagan can play as well.
November 23rd, 2011 at 11:15 am
Funny that if at the beginning of the year if we said that Murphy and Schilens were our starting WRs would anybody complain?
Think we run some double TE, with Meyers and Boss?

November 23rd, 2011 at 11:29 am
I expect Louis…if he’s starting to have a big game. The bears secondary, CB’s specifically, have problems with posseission receivers like Louis. If Palmer throws it deep a couple times, there’s a good chance we’ll get a PI or two.
Linebackers are their biggest strength. We’ll see how Hue attacks them. I’m sure he’s got a solid gameplan.
Offensive Line and Heine are iffy. There’s not enough tape on him, I’ve seen, that could realistically gauge the template he plays as a qb. I’m hoping for a lot of pressure packages. I suspect Forte and Knox to get screens to help him out.

Defense has to win this game. Our 3 best WR’s probaby not playing and starting RB out and possibly back up Taiwan out as well and Bush must be a little banged up after 60 carries in 2 games after being a back up!?
Palmer and the rest of our guys can control the game enough to keep us in it, THE DEFENSE HAS TO WIN IT!

Dude, that’d be great if we lived in a world with miracle workers. You’re also dealing with 53 players, that’s 53 different kinds of injuries, with different grades of injured anatomy, with different pain thresholds. We’d like to simplify the problem, obviously it’s not that simple for MD’s even.

I can’t remember a season where so many of the #1’s being hurt/out on both offense and defense. Players getting softer? Hue being way to cautious? Bad conditioning coaches? Kind of makes you miss old school football, softer rules and tougher players/coaches. On the bright side, if the Raiders are able to keep winning with this many top line players out…..watch out in the playoffs when the team is healthy.
November 23rd, 2011 at 11:54 am

The problem with that is believing Huebris when he says “dings”. A ding could actually be something moderately severe. In that case, you don’t want someone playing through the injury if you want him to have long career in Oakland.

Ten games into the season every starter in the NFL is dinged up. All-Pro’s play hurt, just ask Richard Seymour, and Carson Palmer. Richard Seymour, Rolando McClain and Carson Palmer need to have a player’s only meeting regarding injury. If you can run, you can play.
November 23rd, 2011 at 12:06 pm
Watching the broadcast, Moore at one point grabbed at his big toe and was “flexing” it while trying to get up. I thought it was on a pass play, and not the punt return. We need to get healthy quickly. No complete game by the Raiders if all of our difference makers are out.

It’s a great week to be a Raiders fan. Isn’t it?!
What’s with all the crying about injuries? Every team’s got ‘em. Next man up — stop the whining. Just be glad we’ve got a team of young budding stars who can adjust on the fly.
Wanting DMC to play if he’s not 100%?? Anybody suggesting DMC play before he’s AT LEAST 90% healthy is nuckin’ futs. The closer to 100% the better.
A “mid-foot sprain” could be anything…from mild to almost-devastating…and since it’s not like a sore hammy, where one can better gauge the stress he puts on it, it’s crazy to risk it.
Anybody remember how Chaz Schilens’ career has been nearly ruined by recurring foot injuries? A sports car like DMC will be in the garage a lot more if he re-injures already sore feet…and it can threaten to derail a brilliant career. Let DMC get healthy…he’s not exactly an iron man.
I don’t want Mike Bush carrying the ball 30-times a game, but I know he can carry the load the Raiders need him to.

To each his own. To quote Mike himself: Feed the stud. Give him the ball as many times as possible. Bush gets stronger the more carries he gets.

paradise,
we gotta get creative. throw all the guys who can’t play on the inactive list and start getting some young cats involved. If DHB, Ford & Moore are all out I think we’ll use more 2 TE sets with Boss & Myers. If we go 4-wide it’ll be Schilens-Murphy-Housh-Ausberry. Reece gets the extra carries if Jones can’t go. Tonga can block if Bush & Reece need somebody. Pryor can serve as an extra RB or WR for one game

Maybe you should check the Raiders.com site for info? Or that Steve C. talked to Chris Johnson and reported he is practicing Today?
Steve Corkran: Chris Johnson intends to practice tomorrow to see if he is ready to play in a game for the first time in two months or so. If he suffers another setback, then he would be placed on injured reserve.
November 23rd, 2011 at 12:45 pm
No doubt MBush29 can get it done…he’s a big-time RB, should be a recognized star soon enough. As long as we don’t break him, that is. Feed the stud 25 times a game, and let somebody else get the other 10-15 carries.

Da bears are very similar to the Vikings, in fact the vikes run offense and defense is rated higher. Both are close in pass stats. Both are starting inexperienced QB’s that are mobile and fairly accurate but can be pressured into mistakes and bad reads. It will be up to our defense to step up big and stop the run while containing the QB scrambles. Forte and Barber are no joke and more than likely won’t get injured like AP did.

Yes I was agreeing with you and pointing out tha Palmer’s “bad” year last year could be attributed to bad route running.
“Speaking of which…according to NFL.com Bengals coaches have complained that many of Palmer’s incompletions can be attributed to Ochocinco and Owens routinely breaking off routes. Given both Ochocinco and Owens’ penchant for “doing their own thing,” this isn’t hard to believe. It explains some of the 20 interceptions that Palmer threw as well as some of the 224 incompletions.”

McFaddden is a BIGGGGG secret.
1 month out.
a whole month.
With all the injuries if he wasn’t that bad they would at least try to let him practice …. being that if we lose we could fall behind denver in division if they win.
McFadden foot/ankle is F’d up big time
November 23rd, 2011 at 2:13 pm
First Hue with the officials. Then Schilens and Houston with Sapp. Now MM34 is popping off about Hester.
I like it. Hate the injuries right now. But I like the attitude coming from this team.
Feels like we’re getting ready for takeoff.

With all Houstons talking we need to line him up at RB on short yardage.
November 23rd, 2011 at 2:17 pm
Bills sign Tashard Choice ….. guess Hue doesnt want to sign anyone to help.
Reece, Bush, Tonga, Rock.
Rock was in the backfield in practice.
November 23rd, 2011 at 2:17 pm
Minnesota hadn’t given up a 100 yards rushing to any opponent in 2011 until Bush busted them…Minnesota rush defense is better than the bears statistically….RAM it down their throats…Everyone will be pleasantly surprised at who will be available for week 12….
November 23rd, 2011 at 2:18 pm
M.Giordano at WR.
November 23rd, 2011 at 2:18 pm
with all the injuries this is going to be our toughest test of the year. Oline has to give CP time and Bush some lanes Dline gna have to scrape by lb’s have to have their back and CP our biggest advantage over Bears gna have to carve em up

Boller at Punt Gunner.
Pryor at pass rushing end.
Bruce Campbell with some DT snaps.
Janikowski in the slot.
All fixed.

LOL
November 23rd, 2011 at 2:23 pm
Janikowski already has some experience (sorta) running the ball under Tom Cable.

Jano in the slot!!! Why didnt i think of that?
He will be dubbed Wesnikowski. I like it!

In actuality I think through that joke some brilliance just came out. Bruce Campbell is a bust at OL … with his skill-set athletically and physically, can’t he stuff a run lane? block a field goal? something!!!!!?????
November 23rd, 2011 at 2:27 pm
he could play Defense.
November 23rd, 2011 at 2:28 pm
251. He should line up as a blocking back. Does he have any speed at all?
November 23rd, 2011 at 2:28 pm
The only logical additons to WR sets if we HAD to go 5 wide in a late game passing situation would be Ausberry and Reece along with Chaz Tj and murph
November 23rd, 2011 at 2:28 pm
That’s ironic.. the bears are missing their qb.. and the Raiders missing our best wide receivers.
November 23rd, 2011 at 2:31 pm
We are ok with Reece & Bush at RB…just concerned about Murphy. Now is the time for Housh to make his veteran presence felt.TE must now have an increased roll and use big Ausberry

Sapp is in an all-out war of words with the Raiders and Raider Nation right now.
https://twitter.com/#!/QBKILLA
In addition to the Chaz and Houston battles, he’s now referring to DMac as a 700 yard a year back. Getting into it with every fan who tweets something negative at him right now.
November 23rd, 2011 at 2:34 pm
I’m telling you. They should make these guys play in ski boots. Save the feet and ankles. And who going to go low on you when you are high stepping in ski boots?
November 23rd, 2011 at 2:37 pm
Sapp is becoming a distraction already. Bulletin Board Material. Palmer needs to say something to the team to ignore that fat ass and only bring up sapps name when we lift up the lombardi in a couple months.
November 23rd, 2011 at 2:40 pm

Guys should be studying film and rehabbing any nagging injuries, also supplementing their efforts nutritionally to be prepared for Sunday….They are having a tit for tat with a 2 time all decade, 9 time pro bowler and 4 time all pro who finished with almost a hundred career sacks…He is entitled to an opinion whether we like it or not without the purse string battle….Undoubtedly a first ballot hall of fame…Chaz said enough and the message was received…Get ready and focus on the bears….
November 23rd, 2011 at 3:10 pm
Weird. You get these guys like Sapp and Gannon…the Raiders seem to have no criticism of their play here. And pretty much prop them up as “former Raidahs” who soldiered for the silver and black, as sort of a testimonial to other veterans shopping around for a place to collect a pay check in their last couple of seasons. But then when Gannon and Sapp criticize the team?
“Gannon sucks. he threw 5 picks in the Super Bowl!”
“Sapp sucks. He stone money from us!!”
Why none of this criticism at first?
The year after Gannon threw his 5 picks in the SB, he was our starting QB at season’s open. Likewise the following year.
Why not cut him after the SB?
Because the Raiders knew it wasn’t his fault we lost the Super Bowl. But when he criticizes the team years later, suddenly he’s known for the 5 picks around Alameda? While in the summer of 2003, following that game, he was still considered the team leader by pretty much everyone in the building?
COME ON, MAN.
November 23rd, 2011 at 3:14 pm
MR,
John Herrera criticized Gannon.
Who criticized Sapp?
Are you talking fans or the organization?
Make sense.
Gannon was awesome. The complete opposite of a Warren Sapp. Took an active role in changing the culture and cleaning house… being a leader.
Sapp did nothing of the sort.
Don’t see the comparison.

Still think with all the injuries, nicks etc.? we have the players to beat da bears. Keep Bush shoving it down their throats, sprinkle in some Chaz, TJ, DHB, Louis, Myers, Boss and Ausberry along with Reece and we’ll be fine! “JUST WIN BABY” (even if it’s ugly)! RAIDERS 31 da baers 10.
November 23rd, 2011 at 3:31 pm
I effn hate Sapp….now he hating on Dmc on twitter….calling him out saying he averages 700 TDD rushing per season….shows how stupid he is
November 23rd, 2011 at 3:35 pm

Then he talks about playing Barry twice a year

Raiders must have the worst strength and conditioning coach in the NFL. No doubt McFagile is either a total wuss or it is more than a “mild strain”. C’mon man. Tired of Hue and all his B.S. too.

Raider Fans, hope you had a good Thanksgiving, and everyone is ready for the stretch run. I just returned from Little Rock, Arkansas visiting family. I was returning the rental car when I saw a guy dressed from head to toe in Raider gear. He had a #20 jersey (DMc), and hat. So, while walking by I said you think McFadden is going to get back out there soon. He threw something out there that I haven’t heard. Mind you this is from a guy in Little Rock, where DMc lives, has lots of family, and lots of friend. He dropped a bomb on me saying no his injury is going to put him out for the year. I said what, he says, yeah DMc is going to be out for the year. Raider Fan, we can only hope this isn’t true. We know that this team is only one turn ankle from crippling the Raiders offense again. Now the rookie Twain Jones is hurt, we are literally hanging on my a tendon. Lets go Bear hurting on Sunday.
