Final: Raiders 25, Bears 20
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Sunday, November 27th, 2011 at 4:27 pm in Oakland Raiders.
Sebastian Janikowski kicked a franchise-record six field goals and Michael Bush scored on a late 3-yard run as the Raiders remained in first place in the AFC West with a hard-earned 25-20 win over the Chicago Bears Sunday at O.co Coliseum.
Janikowski connected from distances of 40, 47, 42, 19, 37 and 44 yards without a miss, breaking the previous club record of five field goals he shared with Jeff Jaeger.
The Raiders improved to 7-4 to remain atop the division while Chicago slipped to 7-4, its hopes of making the playoffs almost certainly reduced to being a wild card because of the presence of the unbeaten Green Bay Packers in the NFC North.
Chicago scored on a 29-yard pass from quarterback Caleb Hanie to Johnny Knox and on field goals of 50 and 53 yards by Robbie Gould and with 2:11 left on a 9-yard pass from Hanie to tight end Kellen Davis with 2:11 left.
The play was set up by an 81-yard rainbow from Hanie to Knox, who pulled the ball in with one arm despite tight defense by free safety Matt Giordano.
Raiders’ rookie David Ausberry recovered the ensuing onsides kick after Giordano had the ball knocked loose by Charles Tillman.
With the score 18-13, Oakland finally broke through on Bush’s 3-yard run with 3:47 left, a play that was set up by a perfectly thrown 48-yard strike from quarterback Carson Palmer to wide receiver Louis Murphy against a trailing Tim Jennings.
Bush crashed through on the next play to give the Raiders a 12-point lead, much to the delight of a sold out crowd delighted to see Oakland improve to 3-3 at home.
It capped a 74-yard drive during which the Raiders had a third-and-1 first down wiped out on a holding penalty by Samson Satele, only to have Palmer come back and hit Chaz Schilens for 14 yards and the first down on the following play.
The last time Chicago got the ball back was at the 4-yard line after a 51-yard punt from Shane Lechler, who earlier had a team-record 80-yard punt and also pinned the Bears back at the 3 on another possession.

Bears have a great defense. Getting 7 scores on them – even if most were FGs – is a pretty impressive feat.
A tie in the SD-DEN game would be a great cap to this day.

November 27th, 2011 at 4:38 pm
Bears are a tough team with tons of pride and two 1st ballot HOFers (Peppers, Urlacher) on defense.
You take any wins you can against them. They don’t come easy.

Sucks for them. Two QBs in two weeks.
In other news, unless they choke again the Chargers are probably going to beat the Broncos and give us a two game lead in the division.

God is sending a strong message to us MEN and using the biggest platform to to show us that he is REAL. Us MEN skip church to watch NFL games and God is tired of it. He is showing us all that the worst QB ever can win NFL games by simply believing in HIM.

Game balls to Lechler and Seabass.
Except for a few lapses, D played fairly well. Also, despite the early stuttering and not punching it in, to hang 25 on the Bears D is not shabby.
Just glad we won…heart sank with that late TD.
By the way, I thought we had 8 seconds left when Bush went out of bounds at the end of the first half. Could have swore I saw 3 seconds run off after he landed. Thoughts?

If Norv is not fired tomorrow, there is no justice in the world.
In OT, on the fringe of FG range with his backup kicker and he runs it three straight times, the last one so obvious they lose 3 yards.

Must we always make games this darn exciting??!!! (infuriating really)!
Man are we down on players or what. DHB is clearly the best WR out there healthy. The others are not good. Schilens is the next in line but he’s not that good from what I saw. He and Murphy look like the WRs of 2yrs ago, stuck in old times. Murphy is done! Stick a fork in him. He’s lost whatever it is he had.
McClain is playing on one leg seems like. Seymour is not 100%. Huff not 100%. Gio give ifth and take ifth away. DBs …boy are we thin there too? Sheppard??? Give me break.
But we won. It wasn’t pretty. We won. 7-4 and leading the division.

Game balls for:
Mr. Reece,
Mr. Murphy,
Mr. Heyward-Bey,
whoever that was that made that diving (over Mr. Gordon and his key block on a safety)block on Urlacher to score Mr. Bush on our lone TD;
and pay raises along with game balls to Mr. Lechler & Mr. Janokowski; two coffin corner kicks inside the 5 & an eighty yard boom punt, and six field goals.
Special teams players of the week.

Must we always make games this darn exciting??!!! (infuriating really)!
=========================================
Seriously…is it too much to ask to just to just close out the game? That long pass was inexcusable in that situation. That’s the very thing you want to prevent against there.
Still, just glad our guys won. RAIDERS!
November 27th, 2011 at 5:06 pm
You’ve done lost your mind.
Watching the Chargers and Norv melt is always fun to watch, but now if the Bronco’s beat the Chiefs at home later this year, we are screwed for the tie-breaker.

November 27th, 2011 at 5:07 pm
It’s amazing that we could win missing our best running back and our two best receivers. Go Jano!
Sorry guys, I love Tebow. Mostly because all the ESPN pundits keep saying he can’t win. Stephen A. Smith had a hissy fit this week talking about how Tebow can’t play QB in the NFL. Well Stephen, you’re wrong.
November 27th, 2011 at 5:07 pm
Murphy, in my mind, made up for the early crap with that long grab. But nah, I wouldn’t give him a game ball. His effort was lacking early on.

Ladies and gentlemen, the los angeles chargers of anaheim. But remember they started the season strong, so this is the year.
SCIENCE BLESS SHANE LECHLER AND SEBASTIAN JANIKOWSKI.
Just when you thought Murphy was busy worrying about his ol butt buddy tebow, he made a big play.

November 27th, 2011 at 5:09 pm
Those two clutch 3rd down passes from Palmer today on the Bush TD drive were why we mortgaged the future on him.
Still presses things a little too much at times for my liking, but I’ll sacrifice an INT here or there for big-time stretch the field gems like he dropped to Murphy with the game on the line.
Chaz played a pretty good game as well. Clearly, Palmer has taken a liking to him, and reduced the need to trot out old azz TJ.
DHB is making plays and doing what is needed. Those out routes with him and Carson or not in sync yet, and Palmer didn’t seem to pleased with one of his routes in the 3rd quarter.

J Hill, you are talking with your heart. You should be concerned with them.Every week people say they won’t keep it up,and every week they somehow pull out a win.Their defense is really good.We need to win out or we might finish out the season in 2nd place.
November 27th, 2011 at 5:12 pm
Don’t get caught up in the Donkey hype. They only have one game plan, its the only way they can have a CHANCE at winning. i.e. Run the ball all day every day, play tight defense, keep opposing offenses off the field, and hope the score is close at the end for a chance to win.
If any team gets up on them, they are done. Teabow SUCKS!!!! HE CANNOT THROW!!!! Thats why they run it regardless of the down-n-distance to keep him from being exposed trying to throw.
There defense is playing absolutley great right now which is keeping them in games at the end. Its not Teabow. That guy is absolute garbage.
November 27th, 2011 at 5:12 pm
Mr. Vehldeer, Mr. Wisniewski, Mr. Satele, Mr. Barnes, & Mr. Heyer played their Worst game of the season: 4 sacks (two by Vehldeer, Heyer & Satele giving up a sack; holding calls by Vehldeer and Wisniewski’s cost us our first touchdown of the game, Barnes still false starting, & Satele’s block in the back that negated a huge play).
Gave up huge sacks, holding calls that negated a touchdown, and two key first downs.
Mr. Giordano had the worst 3 minutes of his Raider career; getting burned by Knox to keep Chicago in the game and getting jacked up on the on-sides kick play.

Didn’t the Jets do that well the last two years? Run the ball, play D? Got them playoff wins.
November 27th, 2011 at 5:19 pm
It actually is pretty funny watching opposing defenses get so mad when Tebow has success.
The Dolts defenders were pointing at each other, throwing hissy fits on the field.
I mean, on the last drive, Tebow ran for 12 yards and got blasted on the sideline.
Next play? He runs it again right into the pile for 4 yards.
People don’t realize that these zone reads with Tebow running, allows for 8 blockers (5 lineman, 1 TE, Rb and FB) and so 8 in the box isn’t going to get it done.
You actually have to put 9 in the box against him and have single coverage out wide. It is a DC’s nightmare.
November 27th, 2011 at 5:19 pm
McFadden 20 me too;
I don’t see Miami’s defense line giving the Raiders offensive line that physical of a game.
Raiders need to hit Miami in the mouth again and again.
Raiders do need Mr. McFadden & Mr. Ford to get healthy, now!

Well, I wouldn’t really argue with that but Chicago is 10th against the run and you had to know that their linebackers were going to give Bush some problems.
It just reminded me of why we need the tandem of McFadden and Bush.

The bottom line with Tebow is the same as any other scrambling/running QB.
Eventually, they are going to get the crap knocked out of them and it’s going to affect how they play.
November 27th, 2011 at 5:25 pm
I would go 11 in the box on Tebow. I’ll just have to take my chances with the 3 wide open receivers.

1) Head-to-head record. (Oak / Den tied)
2) Best W/L/Tied % in division games. (Oak 2-2, Den 3-2)
3) Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games.
4) Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the conference.

Lefty,
It’s as simple as I think SD has more talent than Denver, so I want them put away.
I don’t think Denver has the offense to win 10 games. Their defense is playing lights out, I’ll give you that.
Denver is avg about 16 pts a game outside of our debacle. Don’t think that is going to get it done against NE, Chi, or Buff.
November 27th, 2011 at 5:27 pm
Routt was in zone, passed him on to Gio, who was with him stride for stride. Perfect throw, great catch.

Everyone keeps talking about Tebow, but in their last drive it was Magahee(?) that made the big runs. They are running the ball at will at times even though everyone knows that is all they can do.

Shane! Wow! What a performance by our punter.Showed Hester that he was not afraid,LOL! HE WAS HELPLESS!A masterful performance by special teams, one for the books. A 80 yard punt, and 6 field goals.Carson’s 48 yarder was a beaut. And we beat the Bears, I wish Al was here to see it.Tough game, hard fought. The team played with discipline and didn’t give up. Low penalties, even though there were some bad calls.Raiders! Dolphins up next.

Got to beat Miami. If we do that we will be in good shape going down the stretch. We will still have games against GB and Det. on the schedule, but Denver will still have games against Chicago and N.E. and I think Chicago’s defense will know what to do with Tebow’s read option, and no way Tebow can keep up with N.E. scoring.
November 27th, 2011 at 6:24 pm

The G.B. game might be a lot to expect for us to win, but it is football and if we get our missing weapons back and don’t kill ourselves with mistakes we have a chance. The rest of the games we will probably be the favorites. We can’t take them lightly though. Miami will be no pushover.

Raider o-line met the big boys again today and were inconsistent once again. I was pleased that Palmer didn’t suffer any big hits. I hope over time Palmer is able to incorporate more quick slants and outs on 3 step drops. I am not sure the Raiders current personnel is capable of dominating the line of scrimmage against strong front sevens.

Thoughts?

Wow raiders played awsome today against a really good bears team. The defense got pics and held a more the capable running attack in check, offense had low penalties and move the ball enough to get points against a very stout bears d. Veldaheer didnt have his best game but didnt do bad I mean it was peppers the guy makes every and I mean EVERY LT look bad hes a beast. And our special teams I mean WOW janikowski was on point, the kick coverage was great anytime hester or anyone made a defender miss ther was another guy in ther face. And finaly lechler with that endzone to endzone punt when the annoncers said wow I thought to myself they always say wow and the ball was still sailing then I said wow when I saw hester turn and sprint for it…..WOW!
Were in first place and were only gonna get healthier from here on out. We got some tough gamed down the stretch lets kill us some fish next week!!!!!!!

Raider o-line met the big boys again today and were inconsistent once again. I was pleased that Palmer didn’t suffer any big hits

speaking of having all those VHS tapes, I had an entire bookshelf with VHS tapes. i stopped probably after we had gone five seasons with horrible seasons. still have the Broncos-Raiders playoff game at the colisseum that i attended. got rid of all those tapes last summer. i refuse to delete the chargers game from a couple weeks ago from my VCR cuz i was there with my kid and we had a great time. i’ll watch today’s game probably 3 more times and then delete.

11-5 or 10-6 ill take hell even a 12-4 giving the packers its first lost. We’ve become more competitive with palmer at Qb dont get me wrong i did like campbell and he deserves a start in the nfl but out of all the teams that lost its starting qb due to injury isnt doing to wellbut we are
November 27th, 2011 at 7:09 pm
Denvers defense knows they need to keep the opposing team from scoring very much.. im still angry about losing to teblow… he sucks man.. but they win anyway…lol.. it will eventually catch up.. rest assured!!

No Albert. i have a DVR now. One of the original without the extra memory, so i have to be selective. I keep waiting for the NFL to offer all games on Cd’s or whatever. i’ll buy them all.

File that in the “for what it’s worth” category i guess.

Ha. Good point. Sometimes you just take for granted that since these guys get paid a million dollars a year to do their job of analyzing sports that they know what they’re talking about.

November 27th, 2011 at 7:32 pm
Been listening to the Bears postgame out here. They don’t even mention that we had:
-The best player on our team OUT.
…and
-The fact we started our 3rd string receivers.
All they talk about is Hanie. Well big whoop.
They can talk about how it would’ve been different if Cutler had played. WE can talk about how it would have been if we would’ve had (arguably) the best RB in the league in the game and our starting wideouts. Or how our lack of scoring td’s in the redzone today was more on us than on their spectacular defense.
All that being said, we still end up posting 25 pts. on ‘em. Let’s talk about that.
November 27th, 2011 at 7:34 pm
Can you imagine the season if we didnt get palmer and stuck with boller…..ouch
November 27th, 2011 at 7:35 pm
can we get a pick 6 ? since Steelers O is doing their best Raiders impersonation against Bears
November 27th, 2011 at 7:37 pm
F Bear fans…well, they were out in full FN Force today…6 FGs and a TD did enough today…I hope that doesn’t happen again, but…a win is a win, and against a very good Bears D…GO RAIDERS!!!
November 27th, 2011 at 7:38 pm
Hard to say if Dmac would have got going the way the o-line was getting handled in the run game. But I believe he would given the Bears more to account for and could open things up.

He is in total misery right now.
November 27th, 2011 at 7:59 pm
If u look it up you’ll see that even in the Raider “glory years” of the 70’s and 80’s you see alot of close final scores.
Even the 13-1 year (Super Bowl) there were a few real close ones; against some bad (at the time) clubs. 14-13 or 21-20 or 17-13.
The thing is, at the end of the day… they WON.
Raiders (even with Cutler’s absence taken into consideration) were a 4 pt. fav. going in to the game.
They even covered the spread.
This one will look and feel better in the morning.
November 27th, 2011 at 8:31 pm
I think the game plan will be simalar in MIA we just need a few more tds instead
Of FGs and we should handle MIA easy. Not scared of Matt Moore. Maybe DHB can get a few pointers from brandon marshall
