Final: Raiders 25, Bears 20

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Sunday, November 27th, 2011 at 4:27 pm in Oakland Raiders.

Sebastian Janikowski kicked a franchise-record six field goals and Michael Bush scored on a late 3-yard run as the Raiders remained in first place in the AFC West with a hard-earned 25-20 win over the Chicago Bears Sunday at O.co Coliseum.

Janikowski connected from distances of 40, 47, 42, 19, 37 and 44 yards without a miss, breaking the previous club record of five field goals he shared with Jeff Jaeger.

The Raiders improved to 7-4 to remain atop the division while Chicago slipped to 7-4, its hopes of making the playoffs almost certainly reduced to being a wild card because of the presence of the unbeaten Green Bay Packers in the NFC North.

Chicago scored on a 29-yard pass from quarterback Caleb Hanie to Johnny Knox and on field goals of 50 and 53 yards by Robbie Gould and with 2:11 left on a 9-yard pass from Hanie to tight end Kellen Davis with 2:11 left.

The play was set up by an 81-yard rainbow from Hanie to Knox, who pulled the ball in with one arm despite tight defense by free safety Matt Giordano.

Raiders’ rookie David Ausberry recovered the ensuing onsides kick after Giordano had the ball knocked loose by Charles Tillman.

With the score 18-13, Oakland finally broke through on Bush’s 3-yard run with 3:47 left, a play that was set up by a perfectly thrown 48-yard strike from quarterback Carson Palmer to wide receiver Louis Murphy against a trailing Tim Jennings.

Bush crashed through on the next play to give the Raiders a 12-point lead, much to the delight of a sold out crowd delighted to see Oakland improve to 3-3 at home.

It capped a 74-yard drive during which the Raiders had a third-and-1 first down wiped out on a holding penalty by Samson Satele, only to have Palmer come back and hit Chaz Schilens for 14 yards and the first down on the following play.

The last time Chicago got the ball back was at the 4-yard line after a 51-yard punt from Shane Lechler, who earlier had a team-record 80-yard punt and also pinned the Bears back at the 3 on another possession.

  • TheToozFan55

Okay, guys, am I crazy to think we have a chance against Green Bay in Green Bay? If the “good” raiders show up and we get some breaks? How exciting would that be? McFadden runs for 200 yards? Okay, okay, settle down.

What did Sullivan do this time? I’ve been in Cleveland all weekend.

  • ghostraiders

Great Raiders victory!! We beat the bears!! … some real idiots here.. don’t want to admit they were wrong. .. LOL.. embarrassing, ! Sock puppet show is in full effect. .. but no punk asss Sully. ..?? Hmmm.. wonder why?? Hmmm?

  • raiderimmortal

Daaaa raidas!! F tbow and tha rest of da afc west. We finally got a playoff team after nine long years!!!!!!!!

  • raiderkoolaid

The G.B. game might be a lot to expect for us to win, but it is football and if we get our missing weapons back and don’t kill ourselves with mistakes we have a chance. The rest of the games we will probably be the favorites. We can’t take them lightly though. Miami will be no pushover.

  • TheToozFan55

You could tell that Caleb Hanie has been under Cutler’s wing. They both have that sour mouth when things don’t go their way. LOLOLOL, i love seeing the sour mouth, be it rivers, cutler, hanie, whoever.

  • mcfadden20.

KC game looks like it will go over 42

  • http://raiders.com Albert Bigelow Paine Super Star

Miami is the key game left on the schedule. Can’t lose to Miami, and it will be a very tough game.

  • raiderimmortal

Our d really step’d up today. And our o is still trying to find it’s rithim. Not bat after all our injured starting players.. We r just getting started!!

  • mcfadden20.

why are we worrying about the god damn GB? lets worry about Miami first then lets see GB

  • mcfadden20.

Feels good to b on top of the west!! Go raiders!!

  • PlunkforHOF

Because MR in his main identity as Sully fears the information we can disseminate about him.. as he very well should.

However his deranged, disassociated mind thinks that we’ll believe he isn’t APB, although he has openly admitted they are one and the same.

The anti Sockpuppet Group will monitor all of the aliases to see if action is warranted.

CODE BLACK, of course, remains in effect.

    LOL Acurry

Raider o-line met the big boys again today and were inconsistent once again. I was pleased that Palmer didn’t suffer any big hits. I hope over time Palmer is able to incorporate more quick slants and outs on 3 step drops. I am not sure the Raiders current personnel is capable of dominating the line of scrimmage against strong front sevens.

Game balls to Lechler and Seabass.

Except for a few lapses, D played fairly well. Also, despite the early stuttering and not punching it in, to hang 25 on the Bears D is not shabby.

Just glad we won…heart sank with that late TD.

By the way, I thought we had 8 seconds left when Bush went out of bounds at the end of the first half. Could have swore I saw 3 seconds run off after he landed. Thoughts?

I think you are right. Coulda helped us.

  • autopalm77

291…..Check the footage again…Your correct, however, I believe Bush lost yardage on a first down run…The biggest SHOCKER was the hit to the head with a forearm as Giordano attempted to recover the insides kick….

  • TheToozFan55

Well, i figure the “good” raiders show up for miami game with some WR’s back in. we r good on the road, so you’re right – it’s a must win game!!! If we can’t win that – well, things will get dicey!

How the hell does a defense give up an 81 yard pass on 3rd and 16 in that situation. Sh*t like that only happens to the Raiders.

So how about Curry’s game today?

Guy was flying out there. He was the one who caused the Wimbley INT and I think he had two or three tackles for losses. He seems to sniff out the screen well, too.

    Nice to see.

    I think Sully said:

    Bears 23 Raiders 17.

Then ended with: “Sorry Charlie”. As if the whole world was waiting on pins and needles for his “take it to the bank” prediction.

No news here as this niner lover always picks the Raiders to lose.

  • 504 Raider

Raiders should leave Thursday for Miami to get a jump on the jet lag and get used to that East Time Zone. Just get hotel rooms in Boca Raton or Pompano Beach and stay away from South Beach.

  • mcfadden20.

Wow raiders played awsome today against a really good bears team. The defense got pics and held a more the capable running attack in check, offense had low penalties and move the ball enough to get points against a very stout bears d. Veldaheer didnt have his best game but didnt do bad I mean it was peppers the guy makes every and I mean EVERY LT look bad hes a beast. And our special teams I mean WOW janikowski was on point, the kick coverage was great anytime hester or anyone made a defender miss ther was another guy in ther face. And finaly lechler with that endzone to endzone punt when the annoncers said wow I thought to myself they always say wow and the ball was still sailing then I said wow when I saw hester turn and sprint for it…..WOW!

Were in first place and were only gonna get healthier from here on out. We got some tough gamed down the stretch lets kill us some fish next week!!!!!!!
