This contract is ridiculous. Wimbley was a solid player last year — no better. He had 3 sacks in the finale against KC and 6 in the previous 15 games. He disappeared for entire games in the middle of the season, especially against good teams.
He’s someone we needed back, but not with an All-Pro contract. $29 million guaranteed is a joke. Big Al should have given that money to Nnamdi, who is actually a great player.
It’s like All has gone from one extreme — giving blank checks to free agents from other teams — to the opposite extreme of overpaying his own guys.

The Bears have a very good defense. The fact that the raiders moved the ball well against that defense, despite the sacks, says a lot for this offense.
Method is right about Tonga gettin more reps. Hue has to figure out the right balance of Reece and Tonga to give the running gm the best chance while exploiting the the sheer production Reece provides.
Going forward, its in the best interest of both DMAC and Bush that they BOTH are Raiders for the long-term. Raiders need to make Bush a top 15 back in pay, and give DMAC top money with a deduction for injuries
Together, those two will produce at the highest level for 5+ yrs. Without Bush, I don’t see DMAC lasting very long

When we’re playing man to man and the offense passes, someone on defense needs to keep an eye on the qb. Everyones busy covering with their backs turned to the quarterback and he’s killing on those long scrambles. I almost swung on myself when Hanie got the first on the 3rd AND 18. Geez, c’mon Bres!

He played good. Not great. The 3rd and 18 run by Hanie he turned his back when Hanie was clearly passing line-of-scrimage.
That was a potential scoring drive at that moment in the game; thats unexceptable.
You ALWAYS would rather a young QB have to throw on the run to a short route on 3rd and long then to let him get the sideline like that.

The bomb to Knox was a pretty amazing play and tough to avoid but the scramble was ridiculous. Needs to get corrected ASAP.

If someone was watching the QB it wouldn’t be man to man. It’s now QB spy, a zone defense. In a man defense it’s really the pass rushers’ responsibility to watch the QB. You don”t want to have a QB spy all game long because it takes one defender out of the game, unless we’re facing a real speedster like Vick…or Tebow. Hue Jack has got to get better at his game management. He is a very good play caller, he coaches players up well, and he’s good in the locker room.
But his game managment skills are horrible, and one of these days, he’s going to lose a game because of it. Its been a common theme all year, but here are two examples from the last game:
End of the 1st half, 5 seconds and a timeout from the two. You absolutely have enough time for either a pass or a run to try to get that touchdown. If you dont get in, you call the timeout.
Calling a timeout after the dhb catch on the sideline. You know its close, you know the bears are looking at replays to see if they should challenge, and you take a timeout, thereby giving them 3 minutes to mull it over. Sure enough, they challenge after the timeout and we lose a first down.
Get these blunders under control and he’s a top 5 coach.

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) – The Oakland Raiders set team records in field goals (six by Sebastian Janikowski) and longest punt (80 yards by Shane Lechler) in beating the Chicago Bears Sunday.
“I’m impressed with what the Raiders do,” John Madden told the KCBS morning crew. “They get a lot of injuries, and instead of talking about you know, ‘woe is me, this guy can’t play, that guy can’t play,’ they just take what they have and go out and play the game like they have to to win.”
Meanwhile, Madden said 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh feels “lousy” about his team’s 16-6 loss to Baltimore Thursday, and the way the Ravens offensive line overpowered the 49ers in harassing and sacking 49ers QB Alex Smith.
“They had a feeding frenzy on him and the bridge just broke down and all the water went over it,” Madden said. “It’s easy to say, you know, that someone’s going to watch that and come in and do the same thing to you. And I don’t necessarily believe that because it won’t be the same situation.”
In other NFL news, John said Ndamukong Suh’s behavior in the Packer-Lions game was disgraceful. The Detroit defensive tackle was ejected after he stomped on and kicked a Packers player in the Lions’ loss to Green Bay.
“It was an embarrassment to the game,” Madden said. “There’s a lot of ways to play hard, to play tough, to play aggressive, to do all those things. But after the play is over to do that, that doesn’t fall into the category of anything that has to do with football.”
Steelers safety Troy Polumalu may have suffered a concussion when he took a knee to the head in Pittsburgh’s victory over the Chiefs Sunday night. Madden said he likes the idea of requiring players to wear more padding.
“I think they ought to wear knee and thigh pads,” Madden said. “To be concerned about safety and having those guys go out there with half their pads on makes no damn sense to me at all.” (8:30)

Miami, if anyone’s watching the QB other than the front 4, it’s a QB spy, and technically not man to man. Really, stopping marginally fast QBs from taking off is run defense. It’s no different than a draw play. Same rules apply. Same containment responsibilities.

Kell, that pattern is poor run D. A running back taking off is a running play. That’s all it is. You can’t stop the QB from running all over you, your run defense is poor. Same containment responsibilities apply to scrambling QBs as they do a draw play.

The fact is that juxtaposes to everything we are about, so yes, screwing the Raiders would probably be in the mix. sully, you can play a man coverage and spy the qb. In man, you dont have to have both safeties covering deep. For instance, you can play a safety in deep coverage, adn have another safety sit in a middle zone. That safety can also be responsible for the qb scrambling since his zone is about 10 yards downfield anyways. You see this alot when teams move a safety in the box.

If you watch that play, they roll and isolate 55. No one else is on that side. 55 is covering the TE I believe. The TE starts to cross the field, and 55 turns his back on the Q and follows the TE across the field. That leaves nothing but real estate in front of Hanie. I think opposing OC’s have figured out make 55 make a decision. For whatever reason he always makes the wrong one. Now on That play, it probably didn’t matter, but I think the old basketball adage on defense, “lst thing defend the ball”, would come into play.

If you’ve got one defender spying on a QB as slow as Hanie for most of the game, you’re getting torched in the air. Bottom line is it’s our run defense failing to stop these long QB scrambles. It’s just like a draw play. Thinking it was a pass and whiffing the ball carrier is no excuse.

No, I disagree. a QB who drops back, can’t find anyone, then takes off, is not a running play, it’s a busted play.
To avoid that you can have a spy on a QB with those tendancies or play Zone where there are more eyes on the offensive backfield.

Of course what I said was a super simplified version of pass defense, but the Bears play a Cover 2 about as well as it can be played. Their corners are big and physical, they have LB’s that can either cover or blitz, and they have really nice smart safeties back there. And let’s not even start on their Dline, which tore us up pretty good. Getting 3’s instead of six’s really should have sunk us. We dodged a bullet yesterday.

Kell, on the stat sheet, it says run play. The QB crosses the line of scrimmage carrying the football he’s a running back. What is a draw play? It’s a play designed to look like a pass, then the QB hands it off. Any defense that designates a spy to watch the draw play is dead in the water. They’re basically a 10 man defense on passing plays, one defender just sitting there looking stupid.

Defensive players have many reads, that doesn’t take them out of plays. Having a spy on a running QB is a tried and true tactic. So are Zone defenses, designed to keep more eyes on the QB.

Veldheer handled Jared Allen very well. Veldheer held up better than I though he would against Peppers. At this point if I had to pick Peppers or Jared Allen as the better player I would pick Peppers. If Veldheer could continues to practice as if he were going against the best one on one. I thought Al Davis was still controlling our defense when we were RUSHING THREE (3) … in the last 3 minutes of the game and almost let them back in the game. WTF…when are these idiots going to learn that Prevent Defense only loses the game.
