Jackson plans on serious talk with McClain

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Friday, December 2nd, 2011 at 12:37 pm in Oakland Raiders.

Middle linebacker Rolando McClain hasn’t been ruled out of Sunday’s game in Miami, but he can expect a serious conversation about his legal problems with head coach Hue Jackson.

“Here’s the bottom line. There’s a right way to do things and a wrong way to do things, and obviously there was something done wrong,’’ Jackson said following practice Friday. “So we’ll go and deal with that accordingly from there.’’

Jackson said McClain was not at the team facility but expected a face-to-face meeting in several hours. The Raiders boarded a charter for Miami following practice.

McClain was arrested and charged with third degree assault, reckless endangerment, meancing and discharging a firearm within city limits Wednesday in his hometown of Decatur, Ala., where he was attending the funeral of his grandfather.

NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said the NFL will follow the legal process before making any determination on discipline for McClain.

“It will be reviewed under the league’s personal conduct policy we do not have an estimated timetable,’’ Aiello said in an e-mail Friday. “It is a legal matter and we will follow developments.’’

Decatur defense attorney Billy C. Burney told the Associated Press McClain did not fire a gun and gave the following statement: “Mr. McClain asserts his innocence. We are confident Mr. McClain will be cleared of all charges.’’

Jackson said he was not inclined to wait for either the NFL or the legal process before determining what was best for the Raiders.

“(I) have now gotten more information and can make a very informed decision on what I think is best for our team and I’ll do that in the next day or so,’’ Jackson said. “Obviously, there’s a situation that happened and I’ve had an opportunity to digest it all. The important thing is we focus on this game.

“I have 52 other players that are doing things the right way and doing things as I see they should be doing it and we’re getting ready to play a game. I will deal with Rolando when that time comes.’’

McClain was officially ruled as “questionable.’’ If McClain doesn’t play, Darryl Blackstock is next on the depth chart and would get playing time but defensive coordinator Chuck Bresnahan said there are other options in terms of aligments and packages if McClain doesn’t play.

Jackson said he is confident McClain’s issues will not be a distraction, and Raiders players echoed that sentiment.

“You can’t be affected by that,’’ quarterback Carson Palmer said. “You need to have your thoughts and prayers with he and his family at a tough time, but this team is 100 percent focused on the Miami Dolphins right now.’’

Said Raiders safety Tyvon Branch:

“We’ve got one game at the end of the week and that’s our focus for the week,’’ Branch said. “Whatever happens during that week, we have to channel that stuff out and take care of business on Sundays.’’

Although the accuser was not named by police, he was identified and quoted by the television station WAFF and the Decatur Daily news as Rishard Tapscott, 23.

McClain and Jerradius Willingham, who was charged with assault and released on a $500 bond, were high school basketball teammates Tapscott at Decatur High School.

In an interview with WAFF, Tapscott explained his side of the story.

“I went over there, it was basically like an ambush, like they set me up to fight, because as soon as I got there they all went outside and I was sitting in the house,’’ Tapscott said. “That’s when they came back in the house and they were like, `You’re going to have to fight, come back out and fight.’ I was like, `I ain’t fighting. I ain’t coming outside,’ and that’s when he came back in the house and assaulted me.’’

According to the police statement, Willingham initially fought with Tapscott, who then crawled to his car. It was at that point McClain allegedly put a gun to his head, with Tapscott begging for him not to shoot.

(Tapscott was referred to as the victim in the report, not by name).

It was then that McClain allegedly put a gun to his head, then pulled away and fired.

Jackson said he was disappointed McClain put himself in a bad situation.

“We’re not going to let one thing bring down what we’re accomplishing, by no stretch of the imagination,’’ Jackson said. “Am I disappointed? Yes, just like anything. You get disappointed in your kids. All these guys are like my sons. And when they make mistakes, there’s consequences and things you have to deal with.’’

Clearly Hue Jackson feels that McClain contributed in some way to the situation, and he is not happy about it.

The Vikings will be without Adrian Peterson again this week.

He wasn’t able to do much on his sprained right ankle at practice on Friday and coach Leslie Frazier announced that he won’t be in the lineup against the Broncos on Sunday. The ruling means more work for Toby Gerhart and it means that the Broncos can attempt to continue their push for a playoff spot without facing the most dangerous man on the Minnesota offense.

They also might be without one of their other weapons. Percy Harvin is listed as questionable after missing Friday’s practice with an “illness.” As you’d imagine, Frazier was asked if the problem is a migraine since Harvin has been bothered by them throughout his career.

“My first question, like your first question, was, `Is it a migraine?’ They told me they were evaluating the situation and we’ll let you know when you get back in. But everything that has been indicated to me is he’s going to be fine and it’s nothing like we’ve experienced in the past.”

Per Mark Craig of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, the expectation is that Harvin will be able to play. If he isn’t the Vikings will be very short at receiver on Sunday. Devin Aromashodu, Greg Camarillo and Stephen Burton have 13 combined catches this season.

    CRAP !!! Toby Gerhart Stinks

    _______________________________________________________

Thank you Dutch! That line in the movie seemed to come out of nowhere. And furthermore Samuel L’s character didn’t seem to be bothered by it in the least.

That was why I hated that line so much, because the character was married to a Black woman, and was portrayed as being cool with Black people until he called us the N word. It totally came from left field.

Then looking at the fact that Tarantino actually is married to a Black woman in real life, it made me wonder if it was Art Imitating Life.

But like I said, I don’t know Tarantino personally, but the line rubbed me the wrong way, because there was no context for it provided in the movie.

But Frosty Farrakhan Sullivan and all of his infinite knowledge on the Black Experience ,somehow can’t seem to grasp this concept.

  171. ArmChair GM Says:

I know I am opening up a can of worms but in my opinion, the N word should be eradicated completely, in a PERFECT WORLD. Unfortunately we don’t live in a perfect world.

So when Black people originally began using it among each other, it actually served as a warped kind of bond or recognition of a common lineage and understanding between one another.

An understanding that we share a common experience and history in America, and that furthermore, despite that Scarlet Letter Brand placed upon us(That’s a Nathaniel Hawthorne reference for those that don’t know),

we are still here, persevering, and in many instances thriving.

That’s what the phrase means when you hear a Black person say..What’s up My N***A! It took the sting off the perpetual slur and attempted to turn it into something that we could live with. The old adage..If life gives you lemons, make lemonade.

Again I’m not condoning or condemning, I’m just giving some context for the reality that exists in our society.

    Now here’s Pt. 2

Because of the proliferation of Hip Hop in the 90’s and its wide spread acceptance by main stream America, many aspects of Black culture and interpersonal communication, that had previously been hidden to the masses suddenly became exposed for everyone to see.

So the N word in its form used as a term of endearment began to be heard, sung, and rapped, by people of all Races. Hip Hop became the new common experience that made the previously TABOO word outside of the Black community, an almost household thing among many young people.

Now again I’m not condoning or condemning, but it does raise questions…

Why has a word that originated from a slur against Black people become the Universal Term of Endearment for all races?

Why don’t people modify slurs for Hispanics, Asians, or Arabs and use those as well? Why is it only the word that came out of a painful Black experience that becomes ok for EVERYONE to use with impunity, without even understanding its origin or historical context.

So with that being said. I’m glad that despite the dirty, ugly things that have happened in America’s past, we can all come together, United by things such as Music or The Raiders, where it shouldn’t matter what our background is, as long as at the end of the day we all bleed Silver and Black!

Henderson is a NT. He should be able to play NT in a 3-4 for like 15-20 plays, which is all I was thinking of using of the 3-4.

    ++++++++++

Yeah he is for a 4-3 not for a 3-4…

    ————————-

the whole point was that the n word would be used. You make the word into a term of endearment, yet the statistics and social conditions haven’t improved for the majority of the people, thereby making the word continually a negative connotation.

If you read the Willie Lynch letter , you will realize that there have been ways to coordinate a continuing psychological de-construction of African-americans, particularly males. Tyler Perry films also add to this comical 21st century “coonery”, and the McLain episode continues this imagery (amid other indiscretions of A.A. players off-the-field).

It isn’t like blacks aren’t doing well, its just blacks doing bad play better to cause controversy and light up blogs and phone lines to right wing shows.

Rumors arise of a JaMarcus Russell comeback
Posted by Mike Florio on December 2, 2011, 7:17 AM EST

Brett Favre isn’t coming back. Jeff Garcia isn’t coming back. Kenny Stabler isn’t coming back.

    But JaMarcus Russell could be.

According to the Lake Charles (La.) American Press, “[r]umors are swirling” that the first pick in the 2007 draft could be joining the Louisiana Swashbucklers of the Professional Indoor Football League.

(And now you’ve actually heard of the Louisiana Swashbucklers of the Professional Indoor Football League.)

Per the report, Swashbucklers media relations director Duane Bergeron said the organization “would not confirm or deny contact with Russell or his agent.” Likewise, team G.M. and president Chris Meaux said in a statement released to the American Press, “We are not prepared, at this time, to comment on any player-contract negotiations.”

Though it seems like he’s been gone for a long, long time, Russell last played for the Raiders on January 3, 2010. He has 4,083 passing yards and 25 career starts.

If the 26-year-old Russell returns to football in any capacity, it’s surely a sign that he’d like to return to the NFL. And it could be a sign that he finally has realized that, in order to get the most out of his God-given abilities, he needs to at least try.

    _____________
never seen it or Millers crossing, good?

    =========

Miller’s Crossing is great. See it.

I liked Road to Perdition. It was mention Hanks isn’t the gangster type but he’s a hell of an actor and his character wasn’t supposed to be Tony Montana or anything.

The end kind of makes it though.

I liked it quite a bit, though it doesn’t quite crack my greatest 50 or anything.
    ************************************************

Road to Perdition was adapted from a popular graphic novel. The movie version wasn’t quite as convincing and I never bought into Tom Hanks in the role.

Miller’s Crossing is a classic by the Cohen brothers. A glimpse into the Irish mob during prohibition America. As much a cultural study as a crime drama.
A tour de force for Gabriel Byrne. Would be in my top 10 for any genre.

D Moore can pistol whip someone because he’s a potential Pro Bowler in the future.

Mcfadden can sick his pit bulls on someone because he’s the best RB in the league.

Jacoby Ford can pimp slap hoes on E 14th st because he’s one of the best Kick returners in the league.

See where this is going? Hue Jackson has a moral obligation to show the team that he means what he says, and that NO ONE is bigger than the Raider Shield!

Yes it was. My dad grew up with Tony Spilotro (the gangster portrayed by Joe Pesci in Casino). Accurate in that Spilotro was 5′5 and so is Pesci. My dad similarities in the way Spilotro talked, carried himself etc. Dad said Spilotro acted tuff like that too. He was small but took no crap from ANYBODY.

Spilotro started small; doing small burglaries, roughing people up, threatening guys etc. and finally made a few “hits’ and did well “collecting” from the Chi. west side gamblers. They sent out to Vegas to work the skim at the Flamingo and the rest is history.

  478. Chris in NY Says:

Wow. Just got a backdoor cover on the first half line of +19. Unbelievable. Split the bet up thinking UCLA might come out fired up to play for its coach and hang tough for a half at least. Got lucky there and I’ll take it. Don’t expect they’ll keep it under 31 though without the help of a turnover or three and perhaps a garbage time TD.

  479. RAIDERMAN99 Says:

Having some bad recollections of the left side of the Fin defense completely dominating the right side of the Raid offensive line last year. Every run attempt was completely stonewalled. Think the final tally was something like 10 rushes for 1 yard. Couple of times I was reminded of the safety the Texans put on the Raids 4 yards deep in the end zone a few years ago.

A win on Sunday and the Raids are sitting pretty. A loss, with GB and Detroit on the horizon, brings the potential of a 3 game skid and the season possibly spiraling out of control.

No let up. Smash the Fins.

Patriots often covered those spreads as well that year. That team was ridiculous the first 12 or so weeks of that season. They slowed down late, but were obliterating teams early on. I was actually riding them with those big spreads and winning often that year.

Those were the margins of victory for the Patriots in their first 10 games that season. The one 4-point win was against the also undefeated at the time Colts. Pats slowed down some in toward the end of the season but still had another pair of 21-points wins on top of these in the regular season.

And all those games were close and the defenses wore down thats how tebow get those outside runs that he couldnt get in the first tthree quarters. Im tired of all this tebow love really give me a break carson isnt even getting love tebow is getting and he is 3-1 as a starter and leading the afc yet all you hear is all this tebow broncos bs the raiders dont even exist. True. I really don’t want it coming down to that last week with a must-win for a playoff spot on the line. I think just getting in is going to be a lot of pressure on this team. Once we’re in, I think they can cut it loose a little more and be a real, real dangerous team.

He picked up his gun that he just re-registered. Had it on him. That alone is dumb. 530. Cervantes Says:

Not a single one of us was at the scene of the alleged crime and most of you are giving a 23 year old that got beat down credibility over a 22 year old that has been mediocre manning our D.

Anyone ask what did this scrub do to get beat down?

Anyone ask who actually did the beat down?

Anyone ask who actually pulled the trigger?

Anyone wonder why ROMAC was catting it for the camera?

Anyone wonder why exactly zero people have said they witnessed this beat down?

Ideally, ROMAC is no where near any BS like this, but he was and it’s only a distraction if the other 52 men allow it to be.

If he was in the wrong time will tell and Hue and the NFL will take care of it. But there is a fact that you can’t suspend someone because of 4 alleged misdeamors.

Bail was $2000 anyone on this board ever been in jail and have to get out on a bond? Try $10,000 for selling Mary Jane, just to give everyone some perspective. 2Gs is NOTHING.

That being said, ROMAN needs to stay is ash away from any place that requires him to carry a piece. He’s in a different tax bracket now…pay someone to lay someone down.

Final note. We have surrendered 1488 yards rushing. With ROMAC out that’s 299 yards against the Broncos. Those 190 yards or so is the difference between us being 27th against the run and 12th to 17th. That’s a HUGE difference this guy makes.

If anything put him on notice that one more incident and he’s gone. Then plan to find his replacement in the off-season while he thinks that he has to work his way back into the team’s good graces.

    Win-Win.

  531. zopi Says:

No, Arenas and Burress weren’t Raiders, but they were fools with guns who, one got a year suspension, and the other did jail time.

And it’s even more foolish comparing the old timers (Stabler, Tooz, Stork, etc.) that would party hard and late, and still get up to play in the super bowl the next day, but that was a long time ago in another era. Those teams were constantly winning and excelling, this Raiders team has been trying to get out of some crazy insanity, the last thing they need is another gansta fool.
