McClain speaks for first time since arrest
By Steve Corkran
Monday, December 12th, 2011 at 1:34 pm in Oakland Raiders.
Here is the transcript of Raiders middle linebacker Rolando McClain’s first interview since he was arrested Dec. 1 in Decatur, Ala., for allegedly assaulting a childhood friend and firing a gun near the man’s ear.
Q: What were the big issues defensively yesterday?
McClain: “They have a great team. They have a great scheme. They have a great quarterback. They have great receivers that make plays when they need them. You have to give all credit to them. They played a great game. We simply didn’t execute on defense. There’s no excuse for it. We’re not going to try to make excuses. We have to win games against some good teams. We lost to the Packers and were embarrassed by it. All we can do is to try to learn from it, practice hard and get prepared for these next three games.”
Q. Is there a sense now that there’s no margin for error?
McClain. “There’s never a margin for error. You want to be right. We understand that nobody’s perfect. You’re not going to play perfect. But you don’t want to make the mistakes that we’ve been making. They’re simple mistakes here and there. So we just have to fix them.”
Q. How do you think you played?
McClain: “It doesn’t matter how I played. We lost.”
Q. What happened on Ryan Grant’s long touchdown run? It looked like you thought he was going to go one way and he went another. Were you screened off by a teammate?
McClain: “I won’t speak on that play. We know what happened as a defensive unit, and we’ll correct it.”
Q. Can you tell us what happened?
McClain: “I’ll just tell you that we know what happened.”
Q. You want to be playing your best football at the end of the year. How frustrating has it been for you guys the last two weeks?
McClain: “It’s hard. I talked to my mom last night, and she (said), ‘The last two games since the incident a few weeks ago I played good.’ I told her, simple and plain, it don’t matter. We’re not playing good on defense, no matter how good I play … And we’re not winning. For me, all I want to do is win. Whether I make a hundred tackles or one tackle, all I want to do is win and for the defense to perform well. We’re not getting it done right now.”
Q. You haven’t commented on the incident.
McClain: “I won’t comment on it. I haven’t and I won’t.”
Q. Just wanted to give you the opportunity to comment.
McClain: “It is what is. No comment.”
Q. Would you say the team is in shock over what’s happened in the last two games?
McClain: “I don’t know.”
Q. Are you confident that things will stay tight and you can still make a run?
McClain: “I’ve always been a guy that liked to stay in control of my own destiny. We had that control when we were leading the West. We gave up that by losing two games. All we can do now is go out and play football, good football and win games. And we have to rely on somebody else to lose, which is out of our hands now.”
Q. You didn’t blitz very much against the Packers, who are obviously tough to blitz against.
McClain: “You have different schemes for different teams. Some teams blitz a lot, and some teams drop eight in coverage. No matter what we did, we didn’t get the job done. (Rodgers) obviously had a lot of success.”
Q. Is there anything you guys could have done differently to get more of a pass rush?
McClain: “I don’t know. I know the guys up front – they rush hard. You have to give credit—they have a solid offensive line. They’ve got some guys hurt, but they play good as a unit. Plus, Rodgers gets the ball out fast, not matter what the rush is. They’re a good team.”
Q. Are the problems easy to fix?
McClain: “That’s the good thing about it. It’s nothing that’s out of the ordinary. It’s things we can fix and we’re going to have to fix in order to be a good defense. If we want to play in the playoffs, play against some of these good team, we can’t make the mistakes we’ve been making.”
Q. How much better a player are you than you were last year?
McClain: “I don’t know. I’m able to play faster, but there’s 10 other guys on the field with me. Coach has been saying for the past two weeks, “you’ve got to trust the guys around you.’ Not just my play, but once all 11 guys can trust everybody to do their job, we can play a lot faster and we can play a lot more efficient.”
Q. Do you know what happened with the too-man-men-on-the-field penalty on Jordy Nelson’s touchdown?
McClain: “I don’t know. … I have no idea.”
Q. Is it going to help being home after a couple of tough road trips?
McClain: “It’s always good to feel the support of your fans. We have a great fan base. They’ve show up tremendous. It’s holding tight. It feels good to be at home, not travel on the road, leave on a Friday, just relax and get back to playing football. It’s nothing to do with being on the road or being at home; it’s just about playing good football. We haven’t been playing that type of football that we’ve shown we can play throughout this year.”

I a agree with #16 on the players we need to get rid of. Hate to say it but we need to try and get some decent draft pics for dmac, he can not stay healthy. Along with the players #16 would get rid of, I would get rid of glass Schillens, Giordano, Boyd, and Huff. Huff is over paid and does nothing. Need new line backer coach and WR coach and new DC. I do not think Chuck B should be allowed to finish the season. Bring in Jack Del Rio this week.
———————————-
Yeah, a harsh reality about DMac is settling in on Raider Nation now. You can’t have the centerpiece of your offense miss so many games. Time to Hershel Walker his azz. So long, Darren. We like the promise of you, not the reality of you.
As for Del Rio, only if you bring him in as head coach.

Still, Ford said, he won’t play again until he is certain that his foot is sound enough to where he can make a difference at receiver and on kick returns.
“I wouldn’t say I would want to rush back and not be able to be my regular Jacoby Ford out there on the field,” Ford said. “I definitely want to be the same player I was before I got injured. I wouldn’t want to go out there if I don’t feel confident in myself to play to the best of my abilities and hurt the team instead of help the team.”

++++++++++++++++++
Problem here is that his injury history keeps us from getting a bigtime haul for him.
Based on talent alone, DMac is worth a 1st round and a 3rd round pick. I think the Raiders would be lucky to get a 2nd for him though based on his durability issues.
How awesome would Trent Richardson look in silver and black? The definition of a workhorse. Sadly, he’ll be long gone before the Raiders first pick.

Just fooled around with ESPN’s playoff machine and if I have everything figured right, there is a way the Raiders can finish 9-7 and still sneak into the wildcard. The Jets have to lose twice and Tennessee, Cincinnati and Denver all have to lose once.
That’s a thin margin for error. Easier to win out and hope the Jets, the Broncos and the Titans each lose once.
Disgusting it’s come to this.

This freakin team needs to sack up and win out or no playoffs…..simple.
I can’t believe the D allowed Grant to go off yesterday? Ro Mac can’t close two gaps at once people. Thw whole defense stunk and Palmer needs to start limiting his mistakes starting this week or this teams season is over!
The D went to back to it’s old ugly lazy habits again.
I would like to see the Raiders hire Mike Nolan or Steve Spagnolo as the DC next year. Here is hoping Spags is fired from the Lambs.
Spagnolo would be a great hire and he would be working with Mike Waufle again. Both won a Super Bowl with the Giants when their D stepped it up to stop the unbeaten Pats!
This team going 9-7 despite all the adversity this season would still be an accomplishment.
Should have won the Bills and 2nd Denver game, but the D blew it predictably. We knew the D was not going to be good enough with Chuck B running it in the preseason, so this should not be a surprise.

Everytime I looked up we where in the wrong defense. Some off the play was bad but more wrong players on the field. McClain is part of this team till the truth comes out, so until then he needs our support.
Bush is having trouble hitting the hole, if you remember he has had issues in the past about wearing down, so maybe they should start Reece at hb and let bush come in later. I really like what I see in Reece and he is faster to the hole.

Raiders middle linebacker Rolando McClain played a pivotal role in Packers first two touchdowns, which set the tone for a day of blown assignments, undisciplined play, missed tackles, etc.
McClain ran into his own man and got out of position on a 47-yard run by Packers running back Ryan Grant for the first scoring of the game.
On the Packers’ next drive, McClain failed to spot tight end Ryan Taylor in the end zone, looking around for someone, anyone, to cover. By the time he realized Taylor was the man to cover, Rodgers had completed the pass to Taylor for his first NFL reception

“They have a great team.
——————————————–
This sounds like it came straight from Hue’s mouth. This team is lost. DMac is NOT coming back this season, its just a lost season. We may end up 8-8, if lucky, and Mike White Part 2 will get another chance to run this team further from the direction they were headed, half way through the season. Terrified thinking about the type of draft Hue might put together.

Speaking of Mcclain and should-win games that we blew thanks mostly to his distractions, the Miami Dolphins, who beat us 34-14 the week before last, just fired their head coach!!! A team can’t be in more disarray than a looming coaching change. And they just man handled us. Think about how much different this season would be if the same team that won 3 straight beforehand had gone into Miami, instead of a distracted football team dealing with an insane and potentially dangerous teammate.

Here’s another way to look at the Tebow thing…. If they continue building the team around him and he goes down , the Donks are screwed…. Bigtime recievers don’t want to play there…. RB’s want yards , … They dont want to share running with a Qb….They get paid on production … That’s why Elway ( tooth face) looks lije he swallowed sour milk everytime Tebow wins… That nonsense can’t go on forever….. I know I’m sick and tired of reading more of HueSux BS, continues to sound like a broken record. Have the players tuned him out as well? If so, what a bunch of losers.
There is no question Big Rich has already tanked the season, and will be happy just to keep collecting his fat check. If there ever was a player that came in to Raiders with no pride and self-respect, I think he runs a close second to Randy Moss and easily beats Fat Sapp.
But McClain is easily the biggest moron this side of Alabama. I can’t believe this guy has sunk so low, no wonder he has never amounted to anything, and I’m sure he never will. Add him up to the long list of 1st. round busts. I thought no one would ever beat JaMarcus and Darrel Russell, or Marinovic. RoMac is fast becoming the one. AFC west race will be decided by one game. That Miami game was everything. We didn’t need to beat Green Bay, nor were we expected to. But Miami was ours. They just fired their head coach. They were facing a coaching change. You can’t be in more disarray. And they just pushed us around. You tell me that was the same Raider team that took the field against the Bears a week beforehand. Distractions KILL teams. Every good coach knows this. I’m a Hue Jackson supporter for the most part, but this is troubling. McClain should be disciplined in some way.

I expected us to lose to GB, so I’m not going to hold that against them. But let’s be honest, since McClain’s incident, this team is yet to even show up for a game.

I think the only way to look at the Raiders now is just win out baby! I believe that 10-6 would win the division. The Broncos just pulled off their biggest miracle, and the Patriots SHOULD bring them back to earth. Then Denver will go to Buffalo and most likely play in a snow storm. The Bills can win that game! We have 3 winnable games in front of us, and only one on the road in KC. Of course, we will need our MAIN receivers, Jacoby and Denarius. They are my biggest question marks in this whole ordeal!

Sullivan, I’m skeptical that the McClain incident would have that much impact on the team. I guess it is possible that the players see through Hue’s hypocrisy by letting him play.
December 12th, 2011 at 2:38 pm
yeah he would’ve just shot it next to his ear anyway.
December 12th, 2011 at 2:39 pm
I agree … The Raiders have to be able to beat a 3 & 8 team… No excuse…
December 12th, 2011 at 2:39 pm
***
I really didn’t think the pass rush was an issue. We had four sacks in that game which is a high number against Rodgers. Wouldn’t be surprised if that’s the most sacks GB has given up this year. Really not disappointed in the pass defense at all other than blown assignments. Thought the pressure and coverage were fine except for a few instances where someone blew an assignment and let a receiver go totally free.
This one was more about run D, turnovers, injuries and lack of overall effort. That was Rodgers’ lowest rated game this season. Still very strong by most QBs’ standards, but not up to par for him.

Hue Jackson is too much of a coach’s coach. All he sees is McClain’s talent, and how he’d miss it. You have to be a little bit of an ambassador, too. There’s good NFL coaches, then there’s the greats. And, a great NFL coach is capable of cutting ties with a good player if that player’s off-field actions hurt the team.

You can say that incidents like that SHOULDN’T be a distraction. That these guys are professionals, they should just play good football no matter what. But ask Tony Dungy, one of the greatest coaches of the modern era…he’ll be the first to tell you that THEY ARE! He’s written books about it.

Sure about that? We were marred with injuries throughout the 3 game win streak, too. Same defense has taken the field all season long, as far as talent is concerned. But the one thing we didn’t have during that 3 game win streak was a player getting in a huge incident off the field. Since that’s happened, we’ve been the worst team in football. We’ll agree to disagree. We both made our arguments.

December 12th, 2011 at 3:05 pm
n 1905, a group of 32 prominent, outspoken African Americans met to discuss the challenges facing “people of color” (a term used to describe people who were not white) and possible strategies and solutions. Among the issues they were concerned about was the disfranchisement of blacks in the South starting in 1890 to 1908, when Southern legislatures ratified new constitutions creating barriers to voter registration and more complex election rules. Voter registration and turnout dropped markedly in the South as a result. Men who had been voting for 30 years were told they did not “qualify” to register.
Because hotels in the U.S. were segregated, the men convened under the leadership of Harvard scholar W. E. B. Du Bois at a hotel (Fort Erie Hotel) on the Canadian side of Niagara Falls in Fort Erie, Ontario. As a result, the group came to be known as the Niagara Movement. A year later, three whites joined the group: journalist William E. Walling, social worker Mary White Ovington, and social worker Henry Moskowitz, then Associate Leader of the New York Society for Ethical Culture.
The fledgling group struggled for a time with limited resources and internal conflict and disbanded in 1910.[9] Many members of the Niagara Movement then went on to join the NAACP. Although both organizations shared membership and overlapped in their existence, the Niagara Movement was a separate organization and is historically thought of as having a more radical platform than the NAACP. The Niagara Movement was formed exclusively by African Americans, while the meeting which birthed the idea of the NAACP was with three white people.

Im calling BULLSH!T there buddy. Cable lead us to plenty of stinkers in his tenure, and Cable NEVER had to play against a team the calibur of what GB is right now. At our BEST we would have lost by 20 yesterday. Thats not on the ROOKIE HC thats on the GM that built the team. We can’t afford quality depth because we have half our salary cap tied up on 4 defense underachievers. These ‘diamond in the rough’ guys that we find in the later rounds every year, they ARE THE QUALITY DEPTH for other NFL teams.
=============================================
No. Every team has tons of money tied up in non productive players. Cables lst year and a half were a whirlwind of disaster. That is not the case with Jackson. Jackson inherited a better team with a winning trajectory. My point about Cable is other than the Pissburgh game, we were in were in every game, and we were leading after 1 in Pissburgh and close at the half. It appears Jackson has lost this team, they have just roll over.

But it goes to show you how taking care of the ball and having a sound defense gets you far.

It was founded by affluent black people. Not Jews. They coordinated marches, helped in boycotts, etc. Why dont you go to their site (instead of wikipedia) to find more…

DFRAGILE IS DONE FOR THE SEASON
News broke during the Raiders game against the Green Bay Packers that McFadden has a Lisfranc injury to his right foot and may just be out for the year.
Raiders head coach Hue Jackson told reporters that he thinks McFadden will be back. Per San Francisco Chronicle:
It’s not a season-ender. I mean, that’s what we said – it’s a sprained foot, Lisfranc, whatever you want to call it. Basically the same thing. I think Darren will be back before the season’s over. And when we get him back, we’ll get him back.

n 1905, a group of 32 prominent, outspoken African Americans met to discuss the challenges facing “people of color” (a term used to describe people who were not white) and possible strategies and solutions.

Could we give the racial stuff a rest. The NAACP was formed as 1. a way to monitor blacks v. the burgeoning Communist influence that wanted “equality” while gaining a foothold on disillusioned blacks
2. the ADL was also formed as a Jewish version to help against “jewish prejudice” and the burgeoning John Birch Society which was associated with the KKK, but in reality was a patriotic group
3. the true African American reformers were Frederick Douglas and of course, Marcus Garvey
4. the whole point of NAACP and probably the SCLC was to monitor blacks and re-direct them into the Democratic Party. Martin Luther King strayed from this goal due to his position v. the Vietnam War, Malcolm X was to make a speech to the U.N. revealing the CIA’s influence in Third World Countries and regime change – both King and X camps were infiltrated with provocateur – King with COINTELPRO.
5. the Southern Strategy was created by Lee Atwater to re-energize the Dixiecrat base with the illusion that “blacks were taking away votes” when in reality , they couldn’t vote, nor realize what power they had

A Lisfranc injury doesn’t necessarily mean a fracture or anything highly unusual. It’s part of the midfoot and could be a sprain as the Raiders have been saying. I’ve seen on here where people assume an injury by that name means it’s broken and could be career-threatening. But we don’t know that it was a break and not a sprain. DMC could still return and to say it’s a Lisfranc injury isn’t anything different than what Hue’s been saying all along. Only difference would be if it truly is a break and not a sprain.

I dont know who’s fault it is, players? coaches? but the level of intensity on sunday was pathetic. watching Mclain go through the motions at half speed, and basically taking the day off from the first drive till the end of the day was dis-heartening.
The O has a different starter on every skill position compared to the beginig of the season, not an excuse, they are all pro’s and should be ready to play on sunday.
I know I’ve been hard on CHUKY B since the day he was hired. But the last two weeks are evidence enough to fire his incompetent butt today. The D is poorly coached and just plain depressing to watch.

This is troubling, check it out
Miami’s defense is not good, Miami has the 25th ranked Pass Defense– palmer stunk with out question 48% comp 1 pick loss
The Packers have the 31st Ranked Pass Defense! 4 picks 42 qb rating 57 cmp% loss
The bears & 28th ranked Pass defense 56 cmp % 1 pick 72 rating win ( thanks to defense and special teams)
Campbell Against Top 15 Pass Defenses:
Texans 3rd Best Pass defense/ Campbell 2 TDs 1 INT– win
Broncos 15th Best Pass Defense/ Campbell 2 TD/ No INTS- win
Jets 6th Best Pass Defense/ Campbell no TDs, no INTS- win
Bill’s 14th Best Pass Defense/ Campbell 3 Total TDs- 1 INT
looks like palmer has a lot of trouble beating even poor pass defenses, but Jc ( outside of the patsies game) was money against the top 15 pass defenses
December 12th, 2011 at 4:03 pm
I say we win the last three and make it in as a wild card team. Jets play eagles-giants-fins they will probably lose one. Cincy plays vs the Ravens last week, hopefully they do lose that one. Titans have Colts-Jaguars-Texans, hopefully they lose one. Plus if Tebow loses to KC and we win out it doesn’t matter if he beats NE this week. So win out and you have big chances for the playoffs. Plus I wouldn’t rule us out even if we lose this week cause we need Denver to lose at KC anyway.
December 12th, 2011 at 4:04 pm

I can see how Hue deserves some of the blame for the last two weeks but our team is in shambles. We have a lot of key guys injured right now and most of the guys playing lack heart. 3-4 DE are most of the times 4-3 DT (3 tech), our problem is we have 2 of them. Sometime the O-lineman don’t even make the holes, but our penetrating DT make them also by themselves

Seems like all people can do when faced with FACTS about Cable is come up with some lame, worn out fat joke or something.
Cable inherited a disaster. A losing team that hadn’t won jack squat. It was a complete mess after Al fired Kiffen and Cable was able to take that team to 8-8 and a division sweep. Yes, they should have won more outside the division but…8-8.
What did Hue inherit? An 8-8 team with the arrow pointed strongly UP and where are we now?
Blame the injuries I guess.
I like Hue, but we were 7-4 and in firm posession of our own destiny and under Hue the Raiders respond by loisng the next two games by a combined 50 pts.
50 FREAKING POINTS…With everything on the line.
