we were 7-4 last year, lost to Miami (at home again) with a losing record, had a big lead on Jax and lost to them as well only difference this season we were at home against Detroit, which does make it worse.
……………
Actually, the real world says we were 5-6 after 11 games last year. But in your world, we probably were 7-4.

RaiderRetribution, you still think we were 7-4 after 11 games last year? Need to google it? We were 5-11. 7-4 is our best start since 2002. We’d have to be insane to get rid of Hue. Mark Davis doesn’t look insane to me, so I think Hue’s safe for at least another year. I’m looking forward to the off season. No more prioritizing of speed and jumping ability. We’re going after football players now. Gonna be fun!

My two cents on the final play:
Anyone notice the snap from Condo came in high and Lechler had to pull it down? That may have took about 4/10ths of a second more, just time enough for Suhass to get his finger on the ball. Forced a split second delay from Jano approaching the ball.
It all came down to a high snap. Low snap, Jano goes into the record books.
Luck and fate baby!

I hope Hue is watching the 49er game. That defense is playing the way a defense absolutely should play.
The Raider D is a pathetic joke. Choking like that with the season on the line?
You’re telling me in front of a sold out crowd with EVERYTHING in the world to play for, you can’t man up and stop a team that’s on the 2 yard line..a team with ZERO timeouts left and under 2 minutes?
That was the absolute worst Raider defensive gag job I ever remember. Not with so much riding on it.
Unforgivable. And yet we hear this “it happens” kind of crap from Hue. Really? THIS happens? Only if you have the most pathetic, POS, defense the world has ever seen. No pride, no guts, no balls. F’in chumps.
I’ve never been so disappointed in a Raider team before.

Today’s game can be described in one word…”Almost”.
1. Hue Jack – Had a good day except for not going for 2 points imo. I have no problem with the 4th down and 3rd down plays. The WR was open so the right play was called.
2. DHB – This was the best way to deploy DHB. I loved everything they did with him today in terms of short passing routes and he had a huge day except for that one fumble.
3. CP3 – Had a wonderful day except for 3 plays. He missed 2 throws and hung on to the ball too long for that final drive where he got sacked.
4. Chucky/D – They had a pretty good game plan overall except the few plays where they let 81 run full speed out of the slot and being covered by 2 safeties and another time by a MLB and safety.
All in all. We almost had it but it is what it is. Let’s go KC and Kyle Orton. Kyle will look for revenge against the Broncos. As bad as it was today, we still need KC to beat Denver regardless. Even if we won today, we still at least needed KC to beat Denver.

I liked Hue. I really did, but everyone wants to give the “well he’s a rookie HC. You gotta understand how tuff it is”. B.S. I say.
Hue was with this team LAST YEAR and played a key role on the team as OC. He IS NOT NEW to the team, or the environment in Alameda.
Cable was 8-8. Hue is 7-7 and most likely 7-9 when it’s all done. How is that improvement? Just cuz you say it is?
“He’s had injuries”. So what. Welcome to the NFL.
When I see what a first year coach like Harbaugh’s done with SF i am not in any mood to cut anybody any breaks.
You guys should expect more. I’m surprised at some of the Hue apologists.
I’m not saying to fire the guy and at first I wanted to just blame all this on Bresnahan but really should we? Hue is the boss and in that position it is YOU who takes the credit…and the blame.

No respectable HC or GM is coming here until Amy, and all of Al’s old guard, are gone. They’re not stupid. So, we fire Hue, what do we do? Hire another no-name? We have to give Hue one more year.

You know I like Hue and support him 100% but right now we are no better off than last year. 8-8 was ok last year because we had 8 years of double digit losses but this team we expected more from this year.

Steve, meant to ask you, I read on the blog Condos’ snap to Lechler was high, forcing Jano to take a split secaond pause on the kick and give Suh enough time to get a finger on it. You buy that?
Monday December 19, 2011 8:03 Cornfucious
8:03 Steve Corkran: No, though the snap was a tad high. Janikowski said he hit it as well as he could. Just a nice play by Suh.

==============================================
and combine that nonsense with the lackluster effort in Miami, Green Bay, Denver, KC and I say so-long to the whole staff.
I am not interested in investing another year to see if Hue is really not this bad.
The Raiders are no closer to the playoffs than last year…let’s just get the real GM and Head Coach combo. I don’t think Hue is doing anything all that remarkable. His offense is largely predicated on a healthy DMAC anyway….well we know that’s not a reliable situation.
A tough defensive minded coach should be able to get the team prepared to play each week….hell, Romeo Crennell comes in and takes a woefully undermanned KC team and upsets a Green Bay team that this Raider team had no chance of even keeping close.
We see Denver winning on playing tough defense and running the football and playing with confidence…..with half the talent of the Raiders.
I think with the problems of the past, its time to just clean house and get this right. Its unfortunate that the Raiders allowed Hue to trade away the future for an average 32 year old QB
December 19th, 2011 at 9:18 pm
Not exactly dry hump material, anyway.

December 19th, 2011 at 9:19 pm
My frustration and anger is this. I am not so upset as to not think that this team will be better next year..most likely. A new GM, a revamped defense with Bresnahan gone, Carson with a full camp etc. etc. etc. but I am really sick and tired of waiting till next year.
This team was 7-4 and the division was right freaking there for the taking but they choked it away down the stretch. And now? Next year. Again.
I’m watching the Steeler-Niner game and thinking THAT’S the way you play D.
Mike Wallace goes on a deep route and there’s one guy infront of him and one guy in back..NOWHERE TO GO.
Why is that so damn hard for the Raiders to get?
C. Johnson should have been played exactly the same way and you take your chances with Routt on Burleson.
Why cant “professional” coaches grasp that?
I want Hue to sit and watch..then re-watch, then re-watch tape of how real teams in the league play defense.
Dangit, I am just so sick and tired of waiting till next year.

Honestly, with the raggedy defense the Raiders have, the best game plan would have been ball control, keep the defense off the field, and use Lechler to maximize field position.
But then again, the Raider defense, with the lack of substantive investments in multiple positions, couldn’t even stop the best gift wrapped situation yesterday

How many teams do you know make a living trading out their draft picks each year?
You are not going to get the 10 and 12 year superstar from free agency. Hell, even with Palmer, what’s he got? 3 or 4 years tops?

December 19th, 2011 at 9:31 pm
Gruden is overrated. Anyone coach worth his career can coach a team of superstars and seasoned veterans.
Gruden’s inabiity to develop any talent directly contributed to this long slumber we’re in.
How about coaching a player up? Developing them?
December 19th, 2011 at 9:32 pm
Raiders up by 6. The lions got the ball. 5 minute 32 seconds left on the clock. 4th and 2 yards to go for the first. Ball on the 8 yard line.Stafford drops back then takes off, McClain in the middle of the field, he comes up for the tackle before the first down mark. You got your Money on McClain, right! Wrong!! McClain whiff, Stafford get the first and goes on to win the game.
Great linebackers make that play. That is my opinion.

December 19th, 2011 at 9:37 pm
Actually they were up by 13 points!!
December 19th, 2011 at 9:37 pm
GoodOle,
My apologies. Post 66 not directed at you at all. I actually enjoy your posts and link to your article.
What I was talking about was my skepticism that trading draft picks away in the way the Raiders have is a good strategy.
You can’t find the Aaron Rogers through free agency. You can only find serviceable veterans that can fill a piece of a nearly completed puzzle. I am not completely sure the Raiders are close enough to a completed puzzle yet.
December 19th, 2011 at 9:37 pm
Palmer, if healthy, can give us a good 5-6 years. That’s not too bad.
It’s the one of the moves he did that I agree with.
There’s an evil side to me that simply wants someone to pay for the pain they caused me yesterday. Bresnahan getting canned today would’ve sufficed.
Really, IF they did can Bresnahan tomorrow would it make any difference? I mean, would they be any worse becuz of it? Even in the short term?
Something is horribly wrong with that pathetic group they call a “defense” and Hue telling me that “we just have to play better” doesn’t cut it.
Are u watching the Steeler-Niner game tonight Hue and taking notes? You should be.

49ers are by far the best team in the Bay Area, because they play defense!
December 19th, 2011 at 9:40 pm
Lefty,
I will take a better defensive team with an average offense. The Raiders have proven that no score is enough and that unless the offense always brings the A game, they have no chance.
The defense has given denver a chance and sadly pole position for that playoff spot.
Better defense with an average or even below average offense can get you in the playoffs.
The Raiders are on their way to proving that no matter how good the offense, a bad defense gets you nowhere
December 19th, 2011 at 9:41 pm
The Steelers are stupid for playing a hurt Big Ben over Charlie Batch.
December 19th, 2011 at 9:44 pm
#80, Amen.
The Raiders are a prime example abd make your point valid.
Raiders with just an average defense win the following games:
-Buffalo
-Denver
-Detroit
Let’s see, that’s THREE WINS INSTEAD OF LOSSES.
10-4 right now.
December 19th, 2011 at 9:46 pm
Lefty,
I would have pursued a strategy of building a strong defense 1st and then letting a young QB the ability to develop without having to put it all on his shoulders.
But given the moves made to date, they now have to overhaul a defense that has many broken pieces and contracts that don’t match performance.
It will be interesting to see how the Raiders fix this with little draft flexibility
December 19th, 2011 at 9:46 pm
BnM,I mean SnB,normally teams that win the SB have good to great offenses.Their defenses are fair to good.My point to you is,you keep saying we have to build a great defense to win, when in reality if you have a good to great offense all you need is a competent defense.Unfortunately, our defense can’t even be considered competent-we are terrible.
December 19th, 2011 at 9:51 pm
If our defense was even slightly below average, even with all the injuries we have on offense,we would be walking away with the division because we do have a good offense.I agree you need a decent defense to win,but if your offense is good/great a great defense isn’t necessary.

If we had a better defense they wouldn’t be on the field as much and Palmer and Co. would have time enough to get off more plays and more points. Our defense is not very good. They need to be coached up with plays called around the type of players we have.
December 19th, 2011 at 9:54 pm
There are two pretty obvious benefits to a strong defense. First, the opponents do not score as often. Second, your own offense gets the ball back more frequently, increasing your opportunities to score. A third definite benefit to a strong defense is that it can preserve a win by not allowing two touchdowns int he last half of the fourth quarter.
December 19th, 2011 at 9:55 pm
You guys are saying the same thing a little differently: we hate our current defense, the coordinator, the players and their contracts.
December 19th, 2011 at 9:55 pm
Lefty,
True enough. I acknowledge the need for a scoring offense….trust me. I don’t enjoy 3 yards a cloud of dust and ploddng QB play.
But one observation i would make is that it appears that its easier to get the defense right and at least get to the playoffs with a little more consistency.
I see the Jets, Ravens, 49ers as examples of teams that are able to keep themselves in the mix with good defense….the Steelers have also been defense centric, although recently they’ve been able to open it up a lot more with the passing game.
Houston is able to survive with a 3rd stringer due to great defense and running the football.
December 19th, 2011 at 9:56 pm
Lefty,
I will say this though…With the money and trust Al Davis put into some of the defensive players…we really should be in a position to have both right now.

Could it be the defense is simply being led by an incompetant coordinator? Who has basically lost the guys he’s coaching?
I hate to say this but Sapp and Ray Lewis are absolutely right when analyzing the Raider defense.
Ray said he “couldn’t believe” the Raiders weren’t using any gap discipline and Sapp’s been preaching the same for years.
Dangit, it’s true.
Time to look in the mirror and get a freaking clue as to what to do on defense.
December 19th, 2011 at 10:02 pm
The 49ers, with 1 offensive drive, stomped the Steelers with defense. Denver most likely will host the Steelers in the wild card round.
December 19th, 2011 at 10:04 pm
Hue has to have this team ready to play these games man. I am very nervous about his long-term prospects after those back 2 back games against Miami and Green Bay. The decision making is unorthodox at times. Not taking points for example.
But I want to see this team be mentally tough, even if they aren’t all that talented in certain areas.
Hue needs to prove that he’s the long-term answer here
December 19th, 2011 at 10:04 pm
Niners up 20-3 and their D is absolutely abusing Roeth. and the Steelers.
First year HC too. Straight from college no less.
How can that be possible?
December 19th, 2011 at 10:05 pm
Actually,I do hate Bresnahan.
SnB,I disagree that don’t have the players.I watch other teams with what I consider inferior talent yet they play decent defense, which is all this team needs. What is funny,is all the teams you mention are pretenders not really contenders. They may make the play-offs but they won’t go anywhere because there are teams that will score points which will beat them.If we could come up with an average defense, with our offense capability,we are serious contenders.

That’s a part of it for sure. But most of this is the money guys not doing their job and making enough plays. Seymour is not performing like a top 10 paid player…Wimbley is not the force that other elite rushers/backers are and Routt, while good in coverage, leaves a lot of laundry on the field. TK is inconsistent.
The scheme is basic. These guys should still be making plays.

Will all come down to soul searchin in the off season. Keep Hue cuz he will get better. But a top tier d cordinator is a must. One that can bring out the best of who he has and one that can call the correct game planning and formations, and make necessary half time adjustments. One who is smart, has a feel for the flow of the game, one who isn’t afraid to rip some ass, and one whom the players fear. Something that we are just simply plain out missing right now.
December 19th, 2011 at 10:07 pm
96. He was allowed to hire a REAL defensive coordinator.
December 19th, 2011 at 10:07 pm
Our secondary looked lost under the previous DC, too. And the one before that. And the one before that. Our secondary has just looked like a bunch of keystone cops with the fast piano music playing ever since the late ’80s! Obviously, a mere change in DC isn’t the answer. In fact, I think the problem has already been solved. We just need to acquire players differently than we have in the past. Circumstances have made to where that’s now inevitable.
December 19th, 2011 at 10:08 pm

I don’t like the talk about the team not being focused multiple weeks in a row during the throes of a playoff chase.
I don’t like the penalties and that this wasn’t fixed all year despite early acknowledgement
Team also has struggled against supposedly inferior competition as well.
And I didn’t like all the grandstanding and boasting Hue was doing earlier in the season and toned down.
I am not convinced that Hue Jackson is the guy to lead this team in light of the opportunity to significantly expand the quality of the coaching candidates.

December 19th, 2011 at 10:21 pm
Lefty,
Coordinator is awful…but some of these multi-million dollar players aren’t much for leadership by example either.
The Raider vets set a terrible example on that defense and usually disrupt the team with their penalties etc.
The good defense seem to have a tempo and spirit led by a key player whether it be a Brian Dawkins, Ray Lewis/Ed Reed or Brian Urlacher….for the Jets the intensitiy and tone comes from the head coach.
The Raiders have super expensive players on that defense that I think have to go in order to get better

The 4-3 defense by today’s standards is too predictable. Our LB’s especially Mc Clain are playing out of position. Our DB’s are. with the exception of Routt, back-ups or playing injured. Our DC is and was crap and he gotten no better while in the UFL. That one is on Al D.
We need to switch to a 3-4. For the most part, our current personnel sans a few of them are convertible. we need a big NT from FA. He can be backed up by Kelly, JHemdeson. At the DE we have Seymour, Shaughnessy, Houston, Bryant, Moss & Scott. At ILB we have Romac (coverage LB), Curry (blitzing LB) & Gothel as BU. I’d also like to bring back Bruce Davis III as an additional BU. At OLB we have Wimbley and I’d like to draft Vontaze Burfict and move hm to the edge. A crazy man on the edge is what’s called for. We also have Grove as a BU on the outside. when we get all our hurt & injured DB’s back we should be in good shape. Routt, CJ37, Sheppard, Chimdey Checkwa, & DVD at CB. At safety we have Branch, Mitchell, Huff & Giordano. we can use some Safety upgrade bu worse case this would do. Throw in some existing extras for BU and ST and we will have a dominant defense as long as we have a competent 3-4 DC.
December 19th, 2011 at 10:37 pm
“Classically handsome”? Mark Davis? I challenge you to show two or three pics of Mark to young women and ask them their opinion.
December 19th, 2011 at 10:37 pm
Mark’s keeping Hue, same capacity as now. Coach/GM. Everyone knows that. Hue’s getting a safety in free agency, somebody to bring some professionalism to our d backfield. Then in the draft he’s getting a QB, maybe even a first rounder, in anticipation for Palmer to last about 3 years. This QB will learn under Palmer. Hue’s setting us up for the decade.
December 19th, 2011 at 10:39 pm
You know it looks like Mark spends a lot of time alone. Dated haircut. Looks in the eyes as if he drinks. He picked up that recluse thing from dad, that’s for sure. But from what I’ve read about him, he doesn’t have the mean streak and short temper. And that’s a good thing. We need Mark in charge for 25 years to offset the damage his dad has done the past 25 years, with his abusive personality.

December 19th, 2011 at 10:42 pm
Can anyone give me good evidence that keeping McClain at middle linebacker, keeping him at all, will benefit this team?
Can’t we cut our losses with him as soon as possible. We always keep players too long waiting for them to develop, but the thing with McClain is that we’ve had a chance to see for two seasons now that he is simply slow and not a great seeker of the ball, and not a good tackler.
Why should anyone think he’ll improve in those skill areas?
December 19th, 2011 at 10:45 pm

McClain will thrive if in a 3-4 alignment. He seems to play much better when next to Curry. He’s still young and salvageable as long as we don’t try & play him out of position. A 3-4 ILB is not the same position a a 4-3 MLB. That’s the main problem. Right now he’s being played out of position. Just my opinion

As far as I can tell, Rolando has few of the physical skills a team needs in a quality linebacker. As far as I can tell, the reason he was so highly thought of is that he studied game film and he’s okay as a defensive signal caller.
December 19th, 2011 at 11:16 pm
From my perspective, Hue is showing his rookiness as a HC. The problem is he wants to be all things to all people and when someone does that, he’s a master of none. This & last year Hue was really the OC. That’s his first mistake. He spends more time planning & running the offense and then other important things get dropped – like the defense. He’s also tried to be the GM in his spare moments. we need a real GM quickly to take responsibility for the personnel moves. Hue can influence who’s stays & goes but the job belongs to the GM. Al Sunders is the OC & he’s a good one. Hue needs to let him draw up & run the offense again with Hue’s influence. That means Saunders calls the pays. Hue needs to get his house of assistants and coordinators in order. That mean firing Bresnahan and hiring a good competent 3-4 DC. He might look for a new STC too. Other Assistants who didn’t show me much this year are Sanjay Lai (WR), Greg Biekert (LB), Brad Roll (strength & cond.) and a replacement for Kelly Skipper (RB) who looks like he’s going to a college job. Hue needs to delegate better and hold those assistants and coordinators accountable for non-performance. One of Hue’s strength is as a motivator. His time should be spent managing his supervisors and motivating key players to outstanding performance. Hue can be a great micro-manager if he spends his time correctly. That’s what being the Head Coach is all about. So far, he’s spent most of his time being the OC. That needs to change. Hue is a great face for the Raiders. All we need now is to take the next steps. Hue is the right guy for HC as long as he can evolve as described above.

USA Today
There were plenty of plays the Raiders could have made to secure a win Sunday over the Lions, but one seemed to stand out above the rest.
During a 98-yard drive for the game-winning touchdown, the biggest chunk of yardage came in the form of a 48-yard pass from Detroit quarterback Matthew Stafford to wide receiver Calvin Johnson from the Detroit 39-yard line to the Oakland 13.
Johnson, who had nine receptions for a career-high 214 yards, got behind middle linebacker Rolando McClain, with safety Jerome Boyd arriving late, and Johnson came down with the ball to set up the game-winning touchdown.
And no, McClain and Boyd aren’t anywhere close to the Raiders’ best pass defenders on passes 40 yards downfield.
McClain is a 265-pound middle linebacker, and Boyd was in the defensive package because of a hamstring injury to free safety Michael Huff, who did not suit up.
The Lions ran Johnson down the middle of the field against a zone coverage and two players who had no business covering him with the game on the line, and the Raiders paid the price.
Not that Oakland coach Hue Jackson saw it that way.
“That’s called the 2 Tampa,” Jackson said of the coverage that’s actually referred to more often as the Tampa 2. “That’s what the middle linebacker does — he runs right down the middle of the field. They made the play, and we didn’t.”
Jackson rejected the idea that perhaps the coverage was the problem, considering the athletes who were up against Johnson in that situation.
“Go make that play,” Jackson said. “The ball’s laying up in the air, you’ve got to go make that play when you’ve got an opportunity. Their guy made it and we didn’t, so they won the game.”
McClain, as is his usual custom, wasn’t talking after the game.
Boyd had little to say other than, “We’re getting ready for Kansas City.”
Free safety Matt Giordano conceded McClain was supposed to be downfield but wasn’t supposed to be alone (a hint perhaps that Boyd arrived too late).
“It’s part of the coverage, but McClain’s not supposed to have him by himself,” Giordano said. “No offense or defense has 100 percent strong points. There are some weaknesses. We would love to have a different matchup, but we trust that Rolando’s going to make that play. That wasn’t just Rolando. There are 10 other guys on the field, and we could have helped out in that sense.”
NOTES, QUOTES
—Quarterback Carson Palmer had a big statistical game (32 of 40, 367 yards, a touchdown, no interceptions and a 113.2 passer rating) but was lamenting the ones that away.
Two incompletions in particular stood out. The first came on a fourth-and-1 gamble from the Detroit 24-yard line on Oakland’s first possession. Palmer play-faked to Michael Bush and overthrew Denarius Moore in the end zone. Moore was briefly held by the Lions’ Eric Wright, but no flag was thrown.
The second was a third-and-3 pass down the right sideline to Chaz Schilens that glanced off the receiver’s hands. Rather than throw it with the kind of touch common to Palmer, it came with a flat trajectory and high velocity, and Schilens couldn’t handle it.
“The third down to Chaz where I put too much on the ball, I need to give him a better chance to make a play on it. That’s a game-changing play,” Palmer said. “I had another one early in the game to Denarius I whis I could have hit. We just didn’t make enough plays, and I didn’t make enough plays to give us a chance to put them away.”
—Coach Hue Jackson felt the time was perfect for the fourth-and-1 gamble and wasn’t interested in using hindsight and a one-point deficit to beat himself up over the decision.
He also thought Moore was held on the play.
“Obviously, they didn’t call it,” Jackson said. “To me, you have to take that shot. It looked like the guy was wide open. If you’re going to do it, it’s good to do it early in the game so it doesn’t determine the outcome of the game.
“Obviously, every play now will get questioned (as if) that is the reason why we did or didn’t win, but we’re going to stay aggressive. We took a shot there. I thought we had a good chance at it, but we didn’t hit it. We came up short.”
—Sebastian Janikowski had a storybook ending all set up. He lined up for a 65-yard field-goal attempt on the last play of the game, a kick that would have given the Raiders a 30-28 win, only to have it blocked by Ndamukong Suh.
“I can’t kick it any better,” Janikowski said. “The snap and (the) placement was perfect.”
Janikowski had already kicked field goals of 46 and 51 yards in the game. He tied the NFL record with a 63-yard field goal in Week 1. Of his three misses this season, two were blocked.
—Right guard Cooper Carlisle kept Suh, returning from a two-game suspension, more than under control for most of the afternoon.
“He’s obviously a good player,” Carlisle said. “He’s going to be a good player for a long time, but there’s always stuff you can improve upon. Overall, I guess I did all right.”
Suh occasionally swapped sides and worked against rookie Stefen Wisniewski, but for the most part, it was Carlisle getting some help from center Samson Satele.
“I think we did a great job,” Satele said. “Coop did a good job, and if (Suh) comes in, then I hit him.”
STRATEGY AND PERSONNEL
PLAYER NOTES
—RB Darren McFadden remains day-to-day, according to coach Hue Jackson. McFadden has missed the past seven games due to a severe mid-foot sprain.
—TE Kevin Boss caught three passes for 47 yards, two of them going for 34 yards in gains on Oakland’s final drive that resulted in the blocked field-goal attempt.
—FB Marcel Reece had a 26-yard run in the first half and caught an 18-yard pass (plus two other completions that lost 2 yards) but never touched the ball in the second half.
—KR Bryan McCann had a 17-yard punt return and a 26-yard kickoff return before leaving the game with a concussion.
—WR Denarius Moore had 13 yards on two receptions and ran 13 yards with a reverse in his first game back after missing three games with a foot injury.
REPORT CARD VS. LIONS
PASSING OFFENSE: B — Carson Palmer was 32 of 40 for 367 yards and a touchdown with no interceptions. He missed two key throws — a fourth-and-1, end-zone gamble to Denarius Moore from the Detroit 24 and a third-and-3, flat-trajectory throw that Chaz Schilens could have caught but didn’t. Darrius Heyward-Bey (eight receptions, 155 yards, one touchdown) had a career day marred by a lost red-zone fumble after a 29-yard gain.
RUSHING OFFENSE: B-minus — A definite upgrade over the previous two weeks, as Michael Bush had 18 carries for 77 yards after having just 19 at the half. Marcel Reece ran 26 yards with his only carry and never got another one. Nice work on reverses to Louis Murphy and Denarius Moore, who combined for 29 yards on three carries. Murphy had a 12-yard run for the first touchdown.
PASS DEFENSE: D — Some good work was marred by a collapse on last two possessions, during which Matthew Stafford completed nine passes for 143 yards and two touchdowns. The Raiders could do nothing with Calvin Johnson (nine catches, 214 yards, drew four penalties). A strip-sack of Stafford by Tommy Kelly resulted in a 6-yard fumble return by Aaron Curry for a 27-14 lead.
RUSH DEFENSE: A-minus — Kevin Smith had just 47 yards on 15 carries, and the Lions got only 3 yards per attempt. Stafford had 5 yards on one rush, but it was a big one — it came on fourth-and-2 during a late scoring drive.
SPECIAL TEAMS: C-plus — Ndamukong Suh blocked Sebastian Janikowski’s 65-yard field goal attempt after Janikowski had converted from 46 and 51 yards. Shane Lechler put three punts inside the 20-yard line, including one that rolled to the 2 preceding the Lions’ game-winning, 98-yard drive. There were no returns of note. Jerome Boyd’s helmet-to-helmet block nullified an 80-yard kickoff return by Tyvon Branch.
COACHING: C — Hue Jackson had the Raiders emotionally ready to play a big game, and the offensive game plan to substitute ball-control passing for a struggling run game worked early on. But the fourth-and-1 gamble on the first drive failed. The Raiders also went for an extra point rather than a two-point conversion when they went up 26-14 with 7:47 left. The single point did them little good. Any scheme that has middle linebacker Rolando McClain on Johnson late in the game (resulting in a 48-yard completion) is flawed.

of all the different plays or penalties or any other things that did or did not happen, the thing that hurts the most is that if we had won, we would have been poised and primed to make the post season with all the other afc team (cinc, tenn, denver, jets) losses.
but we didn’t win and by some stroke of luck, still in it. more difficult and challenging now, but none the less still hope.

We have a new slogan “I think we can win”
We got shut out and blown out at home by the squaws?
We have been blown out.
We have choked away wins.
We came within a hair of choking away a few more.
Last year we found ways to win.
This year we find ways to lose and we are getting better at.

A few things annoyed me from Jerr’s last writeup:
- JM’s take: The grim reality is this _ if the Raiders lose their last two games and finish 7-9, the Chiefs finish 7-9 and the Chargers and Broncos each have a better record, Oakland, in terms of seeding, would finish in last place. The Bengals would be getting a draft pick better than they ever imagined for Palmer, but at least the pick the following year would be in the second round.
* My take: Who gives a damn whether we finish 2nd, 3rd or last in the division? I could care less unless that second-place finish comes with a wild-card berth. Jerry Mac has mentioned this a couple of times already so he seems to think there’s some great shame in finishing 4th. I do not care. If you gave me a deal that said the Raiders can either be 100% guaranteed to finish 9-7 and 2nd in the division but miss the playoffs, or you can take a chance with 1% odds they get in the playoffs and 99% odds they finish last, I would not hesitate for a second to sign up for that 1% chance. This remains about winning games to get into the playoffs at this point. Has nothing to do with fear of 4th place that J-Mac incorrectly believes is a big deal.
- JM’s take: If the Raiders knew McFadden was going to be out a good long time immediately after being injured seven games ago, they did him a disservice by stringing along the possibility he’d be able to play, because it makes it appear as if he doesn’t want to. No one who runs as hard as McFadden when healthy is a sit-it-out type.
* My take: Do the Raiders have a crystal ball? By all accounts DMC hasn’t had and doesn’t require surgery. If they thought there was a sliver of a chance that he might be able to come back at some point late in the season or in the playoffs there is no way you IR him. Not your best player. I don’t care if DMC was guaranteed to be out of action until late January. You keep a spot for him. Did the Eagles IR T.O. when he broke his leg late in the year? No. They kept a spot for him. He miraculously came back in the Super Bowl and nearly carried that team on his back to victory.
JM’s primary motivation here is avoiding some perceived shame. Shame of coming in 4th. Shame of criticism if you’re DMC. But I think there’s another motive here at play that, thankfully, Hue and the Raiders seem to be more concerned with. It’s called: Just Win, Baby.

The loss to the Lions definitely closed a few doors to us getting in.
We remain one game off the pace in the wild card so will need to get some additional help to draw even there and push it to tiebreakers.
It also makes the Donks-Bills game basically meaningless to us whereas if we had won out in the last three, a Donks loss in either of their last two would earn us the division. Now we need the Donks to lose to KC to accomplish that.
But it was and remains that these last two, in the division and in the conference are what it’s all about. Even if we had beat the Lions, it wouldn’t have changed the fact that we need these last two as well.
Just give me a win over KC. Let’s take it to week 17, at home and we’ll be able to tee that one up with potentially a win-and-in scenario in the wild-card (Jets, Bengals and Titans all play early) and at minimum a win + Donks loss gets us the division.
Again. Two more. Just Win, Baby.

I disagree.
With 98 yards to go and a TD to win for the Lions, this one is on the defense.
A Cover 3 would have worked, a Cover 2 is insane.
Hell, a Man Cover 2, a Man Cover 1, even a Man Cover 0 would have been better than a Zone Cover 2.

I sent my buddy a text messaage when the Lions got the ball back at the 2. “I guarantee the Raiders will let them drive 98 yds and lose this game. Guarantee it. ” I have been a Raiders fan for long enough to know that that is this teams method of losing – play 58 minutes of football and then turn to shiz. Chuck Bresnahan has no business coaching in the NFL. Honestly, I’m not too sold on Hue Jackson either. If we don’t make the playoffs they should both be fired.

I love the Raiders, but there is no way that this Bully is making it to the playoffs, and why should they? The teams that go usually are the ones who deserve to and after watching this team piss away so many wins, they dont deserve to be there. They dont have a chance to beat the better AFC teams in the playoffs anyway. Unlike many here, I am a realist. This team cant even overcome penalties. They are their own worst enemy and they are poorly led. All the talent in the world and its wasted on Hue Jackmouth and Chuck B. At least we won’t have to give Cincy 2 first rounders.

Morning, Dirt. I would say that about most other coaching staffs out there. The Raiders are just an awful second half team this season. I can’t imagine how bad the cumulative point differential is for all the second halves this season. That can’t all be laid on Bres. That is also on Hue. He’s just not a good game manager.

Harbaughs been there before, inherited Singletarys’ D and has a good D cordinator. Plus Harbaugh rips ass when needed.

That’s the difference in coaching styles. I think Hue get’s too buddy, buddy with his players. I’m sure he gets pissed and get’s on them when absolutely needed, but clearly not enough discipline as it shows on the field.

Difference between 6-10 and 10-6 in the NFL is usually not that great.
Handful of plays and we could be in much better or much worse shape than we are now. Buffalo and Detroit losses could’ve been wins with just one of a dozen plays in each going our way down the stretch that didn’t.
On the other hand, wins vs. Texans and Broncos could’ve turned to losses if a few plays go the other way as well.
We could be 5-9 or we could be 9-5 right now based on a handful of plays and the bounce of the ball. Look at the Broncos. They could have easily lost every single game Tebow has started if a couple of plays don’t go their way in each (Fins failing to recover onside kick; Barber out of bounds and OT fumble; Sanchez pick-6; and many others).
All I know is, we’re neither 5-9 or 9-5 right now. We’re 7-7. And if we win the last two we still have a great shot to squeeze into the playoffs where everything resets and we may even get McFadden back.
I think we have about a 50-60% chance of getting in at 9-7. If we beat KC, we have a 100% chance of being alive when we take the field against at the Coliseum against the Chargers in Week 17.
Cork has been saying all along that the division and the season would come down to that game. Who knows, he may yet be right.

yeah but we probably ’should’ have lost to the Jets Bears and Chargers too…

we should have lost to the Bears without Cutler? really?
have they beat ANYBODY since he went down?
Even still, i’ll trade those 3 losses for those 5 wins and a playoff birth any day!

LA,
The players have to make plays though. TK and Seymour just need to make plays…Wimbley just needs to get to the QB.,..Routt needs to play with some freekn poise.
I am not buying that this is a depleted team.
Other teams just “figure it out” Go ask Houston? Lost their defensive (McFadden), lost their running back, lost their top notch QB….and they just “figured it out”
I don’t have any family on the Raiders. Therfore, I don’t have the same level of tolerance for p&ss poor play and lousy effort

Everyone likes to hate on TK, but I’m pretty sure he’s leading the NFL in sacks by a DT over the last two seasons. Bigtime sack/strip of Stafford on Sunday that put us up two scores late.
TK is alright with me.
December 20th, 2011 at 9:42 am
Just checked. TK is tied for the NFL lead in sacks by a defensive tackle in 2011 with 8.0.
Since the start of the 2010 season, TK has the most sacks of any DT with 15.0.
Other notables:
- Ndamukong Suh 13.0
- Cullen Jenkins 13.0
- Richard Seymour 12.0
- Haloti Ngata 11.0
- Geno Atkins 11.0 (tied with TK at 8 this year)

Anyone looks like a hero if they have a monster player like Manning etc….
Hue’s problem is his ego and tendancies. He ignores the team he has on the field and tries to go ultra-aggressive like he has a joystick in his hands.
I point to the K.C game. You have a backup QB with limitations and your trying to throw bombs all over the field and dropping Terrell Pryor on a key 3rd and short.
Hue did not have the team ready to play against Miami or Green Bay — win or lose there is no excuse for that
In the afterglow of the Palmer deal, he is talking large about “best trade ever” and making the media circuit….when that was the time to hunker down and figure out how to win with all the injuries
Disregarded Hagan and traded him and then watched the special teams suffer….Housh hasn’t done shhhhhhhh
The numerous playcalling issues like getting slick with slinging the rock inside the 10 when just running would suffice and the riverboat gambling when good-ole fashioned prudence would have been appropriate.
The CP deal. Making such a “win now or else” deal when the team had obvious holes.

There are times when Hue gets a little silly. The bomb to Schilens was one of those times. Going for it on 4th down against Cleveland was another.
But I like his approach and I hope he sticks with it. I’ve seen way too many conservative coaches play games not to lose over the years. It always gets you burned. Gotta stay aggressive and be daring like HueJax if you want to be successful winning at football.

What the Riaders beat writers told us:
Cork predicted during the Miami live chat the Raiders would be 7-7 by today, he also predicted that the Raiders would win at KC and beat the dolts for 9-7, hanging on for a donkey defeat to get the division. You might want to remind him of that during the live chat. And see if he still feels the same, I’m sure he will stroke everyone’s ego the same.
Monty predicted that the Raiders would go winless after leaving their “manhood” spread out on the field in Miami, ending in 7-9 and in last place in AFC West. You might want to ask him if he stills feels the same, after a somewhat “man-up” performance on Sunday.
There’s also the possibility that the donkeys, dolts and Raiders finish tied at 8-8, what then?
December 20th, 2011 at 9:49 am
How this team COMPETES over the next two weeks should determine if he stays or goes.
I am not talking wins or losses because the K.C team is revitalized with a very good defense and San Diego has reprised their mojo.
The Raiders need to just play two solid games. Hue needs to prove that he can get his entire team prepared for these games.
And I am concerned with his ability to get this team prepped and ready to play

Agreed.
I think we show up in a major way though.
As far as defense, those guys were playing HARD for 60 minutes vs. Detroit.
There’s a lot of talent there. And not in a cliche ‘the Raiders have talent’ kind of way but legit talent.
I think the defensive woes are 75% scheme, 25% player (with the majority of that being Rolando McClain — he should be a safety if he weren’t so slow).
Need the right guy coaching the D. I mean, really anybody would be an improvement.

One of the beat guys said Hue calls plays for the team he wants to have and not necessarily for the team he has.

Good question.
If we beat the Dolts to get to 8-8 they’d be done with a 2-4 division record to our 3-3. But that would also mean we lost to KC and KC (as well as Buffalo) beat Denver. In that scenario all four teams are 8-8 and, believe it or not, KC would win the division with a 4-2 division record.
If we beat KC, the Dolts lose to Detroit then beat us and Denver loses out, all three teams would be 8-8 and 3-3 in the division. Chiefs would be out at 7-9. Each of the three teams would be 1-1 against each other. Would go to record in common games next, so records against the AFC East and NFC North. In that scenario we would be 3-5 in those. SD would also be 3-5. Denver would get in at 4-4.
I don’t think there is another way for an 8-8 logjam that involves us. If KC won out. Denver lost out. SD lost to Det and beat us they’d all be 8-8. We’d be 7-9 and KC would get in on division record.
December 20th, 2011 at 10:04 am
Vahldeer is probably foaming at the mouth for another shot at Hali.
December 20th, 2011 at 10:09 am
KC and SD can be eliminated in the division this week even if they win if Denver also wins.
If we win this week we will still be alive in the division, regardless of what Denver does.

I’m with METHOD this loss is demoralizing.
The loss on sunday reminds me of the Elvis Grbac pass to Andre Rison during the Joe Bugle era. I remember the fans leaving the stadium stunned and ripped up over that last second touchdown. The team never recovered and the team fell apart due to little or no team leadership.
I sensed that last sunday also, I saw nobody talking , no madness just dispirited looks and major dissapointment.
This blog loves to pick on a player or play or blame coaches. The players play, coaches coach, and fans are entertained and yell for our team.
For the life of me, I can’t put my finger on it, this team has no soul or heart right now. When did this happen? What game or play really doesn’t matter. Has the emotional roller coaster taken it’s toll.
Strong leadership comes from individuals who display it on the field, and mostly from within yourself.
I agree some plays make no sense, like why is our safety who was on the practice squad, cut and brought back on the bomb to Megatron, with our hobbled middle linebacker with his ankle issues. Get it!!
This team needs football players and definetly a defensive scheme that plays in todays happy pass league were the rules are definetly set up for passing the ball. Bringing four rushers over 70% of the time just won’t cut it in this three step and quick strike passing league.
The Raiders d-Line has always been told to attack the passer and stay in with your gap as their responsibility. Don’t you see why we get killed by most teams rushing the ball, we are so gap undisciplined it drives me crazy. We make every teams backs look like Jim Brown. Change the scheme and look no further than across the bay. They play defense and we have better overall players on defense than they have. Oh yes we do. It’s how they play defense, not the players.
Finally, this team has all the talent in all areas, it’s playing to that level and more.
Finally, Hue is going nowhere, he is on board for the next few years. We as the Nation get use to his many quirks, like long deep throws late in games or his uncoventional plays at times you just don’t understand. It’s his style and nothing will change.
My fustration is lessons from past games not learned and that’s scary.
December 20th, 2011 at 10:16 am
I agree. This game is all on the offensive line. KC’s front 7 has been tough lately. They really beat Rodgers to a pulp last game.
And, Boller aside, they owned our o-line in that first matchup.
If they get owned again it would take something almost miraculous to pull it off.
If our o-line can dominate this time we will win this game.
December 20th, 2011 at 10:16 am
I don’t think anyone here can say the KC and SD are slam dunk victories.
Truth is, we don’t know how this team will show up in a hostile revitalized Kansas City. The defense has shown no ability to stop anyone of late and that should give us all pause with San Diego.
Hue needs to man up like the Miller Lite commerical.
Get the team mentally and physically prepared to play.
Hue also needs to spend more time with the defense

——————-
It all comes down to some AFC West Slugfests.
With all the bullsh;t this season and even after 3 straight losses, I’m not sure this is the perfect way to end it.
Obviously, we have to hope for help, but that aside, if we go out and beat KC in their barn and close out the season with another win over SD at home, I would say that’s a major stepping stone and will show us where we’re going next year.
The Texans have been brought up in here a lot. Well, Kubiak runs the O. Pretty much same as it’s been for 2, 3 years straight. They got a great D coordinator and added 1 or two pieces and their elite now.
That should be the template.
But lots of pride on the line here last two weeks.
December 20th, 2011 at 10:22 am
Curious to see whether KC builds off their win over GB or was so up for that they suffer a letdown.
My guess is they’ll be up for it with still a glimmer of playoff hope and the fact they’re now playing for a player’s coach like Romeo to possibly keep that job than a dictator who was on thin ice in Haley.

I agree with your comment. That Buffalo loss and Detroit loss were earily similar. What has not been learned from our DC. I’m so tired of reading or hearing, we learn from our mistakes, when players are interviewed. I’m just saying, why can’t we learn from our wins, the losses are just an excuse to not say, I didn’t play well.
December 20th, 2011 at 10:31 am
Anyone who says this team is talented isn’t looking at the facts. Our depth on defense wouldn’t make a lot of teams practice squads. Yes our starting squads have the talent to make a run, but they are all fvcking hurt. Injuries dont matter? Houston got smoked by Carolina. Indy is 1-13 (a lot of that is manning, but has anyone looked at their defensive injuries? staggering) Green Bay looked just mediocre with the loss of Jennings and the oline injuries. Its easy to blame Hue, and he bears some of that blame, but to say injuries don’t matter is you just fooling yourself. We dont have the depth in Oakland to fight through injuries. That is fact, look at our record, it proves it.
December 20th, 2011 at 10:34 am
Why would you guys want to just scrap our DTs in favor of L. Houston and some question mark?
- TK leads the NFL in sacks by a DT over the last two seasons.
- Seymour is 4th in the NFL over that same span. He was having an absolute monster season before getting hurt around week 5 or 6. I think he’s been gutting it out at about 70% most of the time since then.
- Bryant is a beast. He’s the future at the position.
- L Houston is OK. He’s solid and has the potential to be really good. But right now he’s not as good as any of those other three.
No idea where this comes from.
If you want to make a drastic change on defense you’ve got three options that make sense:
- Hire a new d coordinator. Preferably somebody like Mike Nolan.
- Get rid of McClain. He hasn’t shown he can play MLB in a 4-3 scheme.
- Keep McClain but switch to a 3-4. Contrary to popular opinion, we actually have a ton of pieces in place for a 3-4. McClain is better suited for it. Wimbley can be a very good rush OLB. Seymour, TK, Houston, Bryant and Shaughnessy can all play 3-4 DE. Curry could potentially play outside, inside and was a great pass rusher in college. The one piece that’s really missing there is a huge NT. It’s a very important piece. But that’s the only one that we’d really need to fill.
December 20th, 2011 at 10:34 am
Blowing leads is partially your offense (but this offense has been hurt all year in skill sets) and then its your defense not being able to buckle down and dictate the game late. If this defense was at least ok, then we would be 11-5 with no worries laughing at Tebowmania.
but instead ….
yea.
December 20th, 2011 at 10:40 am
Chris, I want to see some mean ol run stuffers at DT (or at least one guy at NT) with Kelly and Seymour in a steady rotation.
I, unlike many semi pros, think Seymour still plays at a high level when healthy (and motivated) and Kelly is great in his role.

December 20th, 2011 at 10:48 am
Sacks are great. Lack of gap discipline and consistent overpursuit in the run game are not.
TK was nothing before Richard Seymour came to take attention away from him. And even together they can’t stop the run. Both are on the wrong side of 30, and both are eating up a bunch of salary cap space ($20 million between them if Richard Seymour gets his $7.5 million roster bonus) that their play simple has not warranted.
The Raiders have several spots on the team that need improvement, so keeping two aging one-dimensional DTs when that money could help improve the LB corps and secondary depth, maybe some other spots as well? Doesn’t seem smart. Of course, this all hinges on the ability of the Raiders to find a young DT/NT in the draft, which would require accumulating more draft picks. McFadden, Seymour, Kelly, and McClain are the only expendable players who could bring in anything in the way of draft picks.
I like Bryant, but I think he might be best suited at base LDE and DT in nickle packages.
Houston is playing out of position at LDE. He’s the Raiders’ most consistent player against the run. He’s a natural DT and should be moved back there where his high motor will help him maintain gap control.

I think Jeff Fisher would be a perfect head coach… but I still don’t think Hue is going anywhere unless the final two games are flat-out UGLY on the offensive side of the ball.

This seems to be the part where we continue to differ, LA. I still haven’t figured out why some of you guys think Hue is an offensive genius. I’ve laid out the case as to why you should at least question this.
Yes, 2010 saw a huge improvement in the offense. Yes, it was Hue’s first year here – as an OC.
But it was also the first post-Jamarcus season. That alone should be worth the three extra wins over 2009. It was also the closest thing to a full season with DMac.
Hue’s record as an offensive coordinator in the NFL is not good. Here are the other stints:
2003 Washington Redskins – 5th lowest points scored in the NFC. Four times they scored 10 or fewer points in a game, including getting shutout once.
2007 Atlanta Falcons – 2nd lowest points scored in the entire fkn NFL!!! FIVE TIMES they scored 10 or fewer points in a game.
Both seasons, those teams regressed on offense from the previous seasons. He only served as OC for one year both times. He was not invited to be an OC anywhere else in the subsequent seasons (2004 and 2008). He took lesser roles as position coaches.
So, again, I ask you guys, where is the evidence that Hue is a great NFL offensive mind? I have yet to see it.

Just Cry Uncle, Hue. This team looks cooked. Maybe Chris in NY can will it to victory.

The Raiders need VETERAN LEADERSHIP
***
I don’t agree. look at the roster
Offense: Palmer, Campbell, Boller at QB (all vets)
Bush in his 5th year. McFadden in his 4th. Reece in his 4th. Cartwright. TJ Housh at WR. Schilens in his 4th year. Kevin Boss at TE. Satele, Heyer, Carlisle & Barnes all vets on the O-Line.
Defense: Seymour, Henderson & Kelly all vets on the D-Line. Moss in his 5th year. Scott in his 4th. Wimbley, Groves & Blackstock all vets at LB. Routt, Sheppard, Huff & Giordano are vets. Branch in his 4th year.
Seabass & Shane are ancient. Condo is 30
Saunders & Bresnahan certainly don’t lack experience either … but most of the position coaches (outside of Wylie) or assistants do!
December 20th, 2011 at 11:05 am
Well, being that he’ll likely get another year, we’ll find out.
He’ll get an entire offseason with how he wants to do things as a head coach on any other team would do (IE, have a say in player acquisitions, drafting, picking his staff, etc).
You also see what he had to work with in those other two stops.
And that was a number of years ago.
Can’t forget that he went to McFadden and asked what DMC liked to run. Nobody bothered to ask him before??
I don’t know that he is a great offensive mind but I also don’t know that he has to be.
Every play he called was money on Sunday, even if they didn’t all get executed.
December 20th, 2011 at 11:09 am
I realize the D has blown some leads. Buffalo, Denver and Detroit being the most troubling. But they’ve actually persevered at the end of just about all our wins. I think every win except the Jets game has come down to situations like the Detroit game with the defense on the field and the opponent having a chance to win or tie with a successful two-minute drill.
That’s not to say the defense has been good. Overall it’s been pretty poor and given up a TON of points. But in do or die situations they’ve probably held their own.
December 20th, 2011 at 11:13 am
It amazes me how some of you guys can take this load of crap, munch on it, and then claim it tastes like pumpkin pie.
Face it, our defense sucks. Our Defensive coordinator is a fool. Our head coach is in way over his head and makes very poor game management decisions.
If you think otherwise you are just lying to yourselves.
December 20th, 2011 at 11:13 am
Raiders don’t need more veteran leadership, they need guys who make plays when it counts. Moore, Ford, and Wimbley are the closest things to playmakers on the roster. Getting those two guys back on offense (and adding another workhorse RB who can split carries with Bush/McFadden/Jones/whoever is around after the season) will be huge for Carson Palmer, who like it or not, is the Raiders’ unquestioned leader in the locker room now.
But on the defensive side? Wimbley has had a good season but I think we’re starting to see why he isn’t a base RDE – only one pass rush move, and doesn’t have the bulk to stop the run from a three-point stance. He’s an above average 4-3 SLB and provides enough of a pass rush in nickle packages – that’s the role he should stay in.
Mario Williams would have the same impact on the Raider defense that Julius Peppers did for the Bears. The Raiders need to shed some salary, acquire some more draft picks in the process, and sign some guys who change the complexion of games.
December 20th, 2011 at 11:16 am

You know …
You all just trash coaches, every single one of them. be realistic, its Oakland. Nobody wants to come here. No big name coaches. Thats Al’s old retarded fault. Now the franchise has no stadium, no “true” owner and questionable power ranks, in which Hue just traded away the bank for a 31 yr old QB out of retirement. The players are blatantly overpaid and the schemes have always been controlled by Al, coaches have been mocked, players have been destoryed and the media perseption is ugly.
Let Hue have his time. He will learn a lot from this season. There are few teams that EVER had this type of year of setbacks emotionally and physically:
physically:
Shaugnessy
Hiram Eugene
McFAdden
Cambell
palmer trade
ford/moore/taiwan
Curry Trade
Seabass hurt
on and on…. we all know
emotionally:
AL
McClain
Chris Johnson
You all will continue to fire and hire for next 10 years? again? let Hue roll with it. since apparently you all think we should be 14-0 right now?

Hue Jackson is the typical Raiders coach (with the exception of Gruden) in the modern era. Talk jive ebonics with the guys all week in practice, talk a mouthful of bs at a press conference, and in the meantime the team has no discipline because nobody is held acountable for their f-ups and uncle Hue will stand behind your failures in the press. He still has Al Davis’ sack in his mouth because he is scared to death of Amy Trask, and I wouldn’t be surprised to hear him say how we’re still building a bully here on Friday. I bought into his bs early on, but this team needs leadership and it is so painfully obvious that they aren’t geting it.
December 20th, 2011 at 11:20 am
We’ve done a lot of Hue bashing here for a few weeks, deservedly so, I believe, but look at Mike Tomlin last night: deciding to use and risk further injury to Benmay be one thing, but what the heck was he doing in the final minutes of the last quarter when it was clear the Steelers couldn’t win it with Ben, yet risking further injury to his star.
That, I don’t understand at all.

Shut your piehole, Dakotex.
The real reason this team is doing an epic swan dive is because you boy, McFadden is made of glass.
Go Raiders!

ROG,
thanks for the props, but I’m not proud of the fact that I was right. I was hoping Hue would prove me wrong (and he still might)
my point back then was that Al Davis should get all the credit for the offensive improvements last year – and I still hold to that. Hue Jackson came in and brought Palmer in – a move that I strongly supported. Ditto with Aaron Curry. there were a few head scratcher personnel moves, but nothing to make me call for his head. there have also been quite a few head scratcher play calls – which was also the case last year
My original point was that Hue Jackson wasn’t QUALIFIED to be an NFL Head Coach. You could argue several other guys weren’t either that have had success in this league, but it’s always a gamble. Usually Al Davis gambles don’t pan out. Not that they never do, but I’d say 9 times out of 10 it’s an epic fail and this is coming from an Al Davis supporter. I understand we didn’t have 150 qualified guys banging on Al’s door for the job, but still feel we could have done better. Now that he’s the head man I’m ok because he’s under contract and I’m sick of the coaching carousel. I say hire a G.M. and let him decide if Hue stays or goes. Another thing, Hue should have NO SAY OR INPUT in who the G.M. (his boss) will be

“Hue inherited an 8-8 team Harbaugh got a 6-10 team.’
Harbaugh got a defensive team full of talent and an offensive team with a qb that just needed good coaching.
With the defensive talent that’s on the Niners, maybe even Bresnahan, Ryan, or Al Davis couldn’t screw them up.
December 20th, 2011 at 11:24 am
I don’t know if 8-8 will save Hue’s job. The way his team came out and looked like a high school football team playing the Phins and Packers, and then his brain dead calls that cost us the Lions game…I just do not think he is in a safe position even at 8-8.
If he goes 7-9, losing the last 5 games in this fashion, he is certainly a goner.
I think he needs to go 9-7 to save his job now. I know there have been a lot of injuries on offense, and most of the teams problems are on the defensive side of the ball, but he is the head coach, and he ultimately decided to stick with Chucky B. He didn’t have the team anywhere near prepared to play the Phins or the Packers.
He also has shown that he can’t handle all of his current responsibilities, so a GM has to be brought in, and I don’t see any reason why Mark and Amy would give him say in who that GM will be. He has not earned that right yet. If the team was 10-6 or 11-5, I think they would have listened to him, but he dropped the ball. So the new GM will have no loyalty to Hue.
I would not be surprised to see Hue back next year, but I have a feeling that a change will be made unless he wins out.

Things have changed.
In the past the Raiders have had to settle on the best Head coach that would work with Al.
Now we can just get the best Head coach.

Al wouldn’t tolerate this COLLAPSE.

Really?
Lets look at what we pay our “Stars” on defense and what do the 49ers pay their “star” on defense.
Also name 5 defensive starters other than Patrick willis on that defense?
Its not the telnet level of their players its the way they play defense with intensity and how disciplined they are in gap assignments. They attack they execute and they have not given up a rushing touchdown all year.
Its called COACHING!!!!!!
You cannot convince me otherwise.

LOL THAT PIECE OF SHIZ THAT HE DRAFTED!!!??? that he defended with the overhead projector?!
“jamarcus is a greeaat playyyer”
That he let hold out on him for a whole rookie year until Al paid the moon and stars for him?
Unreal how dillusional you guys are.
Al cut a player that every coach he had told him they couldnt win with him? MOst that defied him on that were fired.
Al was awful after the last superbowl run.
He crapped away the organization with terrible picks, terrible coaches, strangling the schemes for disaster while his 70’s teams visions were in his head, playing over and over again.
Why would any d-corrdinator come to oakland? when some 81 year old is forcing you to play 4-3 cover 1 the whole game no matter your personnel or background?
lnae kiffin was a prick, but al davis wouldnt let his dad monte kiffin be the d coach. ar eyou serious?! monte kiffin the best d coordinator ever?

Justin Smith, Aldon Smith, Navarro Bowman, and Carlos Rogers come to mind.
Part of it is the scheme, sure. The other part is finding players who fit the scheme – putting players in a position where they can succeed.
Poor drafting, bad contracts to underachieving players, and a scheme that was a total mismatch with personnel (Branch is the only DB who can play zone, D-line plays with no gap discipline, allowing blockers to get to the second level when the LBs – a 3-4 ILB, a 3-4 OLB/DE, and a 4-3 SLB playing WLB, are constantly in man coverage) have been plaguing the Raiders for years now.
December 20th, 2011 at 11:38 am
Everybody knows I’m the last one to give Hue Jackson the benefit of the doubt or any support whatsoever, but due to the fact that he lured in Carson Palmer (a franchise QB) and DHB has seen great improvement … I’m almost tempted to see what they can accomplish with a full offseason together. Can you imagine what a beasts Denny Moore & Wiz II are going to be? Plus you know if guys like McFadden, Jones, Ford & Murphy stay healthy this offense could be really special
Let Hue finish out his contract? You know Al Davis was paying him in peanuts anyway.
But again, if the new G.M. wants him ousted?
I wont complain

My biggest problem with CLOWN SUITS is not that he likes to dress up like a clown for the pressers or that she likes to get her nails done before a big game, or his poor game management, or his fondness for fake punts, or his poor basic math skills, my biggest problem with CLOWN SUITS is that he doesn’t seem to learn from his mistakes.
CLOWN SUITS remains defiant even after his undisciplined A$$ just cost this team it’s first chance at a playoff appearance in FOREVER.

True, but not an accurate description of the offense this year. Here are our point totals:
23
35
34
19
25
24
0
24
24
27
25
14
16
27
With the exception of the KC debacle, which I think we can all chalk up to strange circumstances, we’re averaging about 25 ppg. That’s despite being without McFadden for 8 games and switching QBs mid-season.
The two games where we were getting blown out were our second and third worst offensive games of the season. So they have not been responsible for “padding the stats.”

Yep.
Get Huey a better DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR who knows what the hell he is doing….especially in crunch time and give Carson and the offense a full training camp together.
Let’s add a versatile vet MIKE/ILB to compete and push RoMac and add another vet nickel back, so we won’t have to see Boyd or someother scrub back there in crunch time.
Should have never been in a Cover 2 in the first place in crunch time…when we know damn well they haven’t practiced Cover 2 in gawd knows how long.
December 20th, 2011 at 11:42 am
For the last decade the best way to beat the Raiders was to get 2 scores up on them and the defense would cave in and give up. Now we have an offense that can allow us to be up 2 scores and the defense will cave in and give up. Mental toughness has been absent from this squad for a long time. Anybody who has followed this team for the last 10 years had to know we were screwed when Detroit got the ball with 98 yds to go and 2 minutes to do it. This defense is the weakest link on this team and I think it’s because they are the worst tackling defense in the NFL. Everyone wants to compare to the 49ers D. Those guys can actually tackle. They use their arms to wrap a guy up instead of trying to knock him down with a shoulder alone in the open field. Basic fundamentals.

Only guy they should replace Huey with IF Davis, Trask and the new GM want to go that route is with Jeff Fisher!
I think we all know, they won’t want to pay the money for him, so then they need to hire a REAL DC to turn this damn defense around and get them discplined and teach them how to close a game!!
There will be plenty of DC’s available that would bring intensity, smarts and discipline to the maligned D unit:
Jack Del Rio- (a Raider fan who played at Hayward High and at USC in college, was a former strength and conditioning coach with the Saints and then as Ravens LB coach who also worked with Ray Lewis and then was a solid D Coordinator with the Panthers leading them to 2nd best D in the league in 2002 and the was named Jacksonville coach after that) Del Rio would be a great fit as the Raiders DC IMO.
Steve Spagnolo- (if fired from Lambs, Super Bowl winning DC who shut down the undefeated Pats dominate offense in the last and biggest game of the year, the Super Bowl, worked with DL coach Mike Waufle with the Giants as well)
Dean Pees- (former Pats D Coordinator when they had a good defense, and is current Ravens LB coach who has taught Ray Lewis and Terrell Suggs how to be dominate)

Darren Perry- (was DB’s coach under Dick LeBeau in Cinncy and has worked with the Steelers as well as their DB coach, developed Polamulu and Hope, was Raiders DB coach and helped Nnamdi improve his game and is now DB coach with Packers developing Williams and renergizing Charles Woodson and is worked under another solid DC Dom Capers)
Out all these, I think Del Rio would be a great fit as DC!
Plus if the team still doesn’t go anywhere and the defense improves dractically under Del Rio and Hue is still making questionable decisions that may cost games….they can replace Huey with Del Rio as H, but keep Saunders as the OC.
Maintaining offensive continuity is very important for this Raider team because they have the talent on that side of the ball and they can score points, especially after they will have Carson for a full training camp.
