Everybody knows I’m the last one to give Hue Jackson the benefit of the doubt or any support whatsoever, but due to the fact that he lured in Carson Palmer (a franchise QB) and DHB has seen great improvement … I’m almost tempted to see what they can accomplish with a full offseason together. Can you imagine what a beasts Denny Moore & Wiz II are going to be? Plus you know if guys like McFadden, Jones, Ford & Murphy stay healthy this offense could be really special
Let Hue finish out his contract? You know Al Davis was paying him in peanuts anyway.
But again, if the new G.M. wants him ousted?

Justin Smith, Aldon Smith, Navarro Bowman, and Carlos Rogers come to mind.
Part of it is the scheme, sure. The other part is finding players who fit the scheme – putting players in a position where they can succeed.
Poor drafting, bad contracts to underachieving players, and a scheme that was a total mismatch with personnel (Branch is the only DB who can play zone, D-line plays with no gap discipline, allowing blockers to get to the second level when the LBs – a 3-4 ILB, a 3-4 OLB/DE, and a 4-3 SLB playing WLB, are constantly in man coverage) have been plaguing the Raiders for years now.

The Raiders have given up 27 touchdown passes a year after giving up 28. Their pass defense is as much to blame as their run defense for being in the position they’re in.

My biggest problem with CLOWN SUITS is not that he likes to dress up like a clown for the pressers or that she likes to get her nails done before a big game, or his poor game management, or his fondness for fake punts, or his poor basic math skills, my biggest problem with CLOWN SUITS is that he doesn’t seem to learn from his mistakes.

I like Hue, I thought he had great potential. But he does not seem to learn from past mistakes. He nearly lost the Texans game by leaving points on the field, and then he later loses a game doing the same thing. There is no excuse for it.
I could live with Hue again next year if we hire a GM and that GM decides to keep Hue, and if we get a new DC. Hue just needs to cut back on his risky plays and learn how to kill the clock when you have the ball and the lead. I don’t care how close that 3rd and 3 pass was to being completed, the fact remains had we run the ball we at minimum run off a major chunk of time, and best case get the first down. There was no downside to running the ball. Major downside to passing it in that situation.
He has to stop coaching the team like he is playing a video game.

For the last decade the best way to beat the Raiders was to get 2 scores up on them and the defense would cave in and give up. Now we have an offense that can allow us to be up 2 scores and the defense will cave in and give up. Mental toughness has been absent from this squad for a long time. Anybody who has followed this team for the last 10 years had to know we were screwed when Detroit got the ball with 98 yds to go and 2 minutes to do it. This defense is the weakest link on this team and I think it’s because they are the worst tackling defense in the NFL. Everyone wants to compare to the 49ers D. Those guys can actually tackle. They use their arms to wrap a guy up instead of trying to knock him down with a shoulder alone in the open field. Basic fundamentals.

No reason we can’t go out there and get a real defensive coordinator now that Al is gone. That is something I am excited about for next season.
Our new Defensive Coordinator will be our biggest offseason move by far.
If Chucky B stays, then we are really screwed.

In the Tampa 2 defense it is the MLB responsibility to drop back into coverage with the other 2 safeties to prevent a deep pass.

We scored enough to win versus Det, Den and Buff so a good DC would have had us at 10 and 4 is that not good enough for you?

JFB, SNB666, Dakota, Hunter S Thompson, RRS, and a few others have said, it’s our D-Coordinator and scheme we play. Offense is good, can be better, but we have such a depressing Defense, it so sad to watch that scheme before all of our eyes, it’s scary to think the players actually buy into that also and look at the results.

At that point in the game, Stafford was STARING DOWN Megatron on EVERY PLAY. You should have at least 2 players running wherever he went. Probably should have 3. Even after the complete failure on the bomb…how Johnson is so open on the touchdown is beyond me. Again…HE STARED HIM DOWN THE WHOLE PLAY.
It really was a surreal ending. I wonder if the players think the same way. Worst lost Ive seen. Worst then a damn tuck rule…
Won my fantasy league with Calvin having a big day. $1500 pot…and I was depressed…

Just can’t understand the play calls on offense or defense. Just still shocked that no decision was made for a two point onversion and the many calls on defensive during that last drive by Detroit.

Finally someone gets it! Houston was 6-10 last year with mostly the same players. They got Joseph at CB and Wade Phillips to run the D and bang they are 10-4 and, until Schaub got hurt they were considered the best team in the AFC

2001 Patriots were 19th in the league in total yards, and 22nd in passing yards. THEY WERE 24TH IN DEFENSE!!!
But guess what? They were 7th in the league in drive success rate (getting first downs and TDs).
Efficiency is a much better indicator of how good an offense is.
NFL history is littered with teams that piled up a lot of yardage but never amounted to sh!t. Two of them are in the AFC West and happen to be our last two opponents this season.

Ok guys Penalty discussion. This is NOT a Hue Jackson discussion. What does the organization do to combat the penalties? This issue has plaqued us since before Hue got in to the NFL. How does ANYONE fix it? Any ideas, and don’t just say ‘more leadership’. Or do you think every coach we have had for the last 25 years is just a poor leader.

With all that craziness, I still believe strongly we will make the playoff by winning the division. We have done well in the past 3 years in KC and play SD very well at home even with Jamarcus Russell. IMO, it all boils down to individual matchups of the D/O lines. Our lines dominate SD’s lines. Orton will beat Tebow in Den. That’s how we are going to get in.

KC cant cover our WR’s, even with Ford out. DHB and Moore are going to have big games.
DHB will end up with over 1000 yards this season, who would have imagined?
Next season, with a full training camp, this will be a top 3 offense, with NO and GB.
But as for now, KC is going to get blasted. Its payback time.

SD game was the best blueprint.
The run game worked so well because of the deep pass completions. Once that option was taken away because of Moore and Ford being out, offense was a mess.
I think it’s sad that 27 pts on the board is not enough to get us a win at home under those circumstances.
Up 13 with with 7 minutes left!!!!
Defense HAS to be able to bring that home.
McClain HAS to be able to tackle Stafford on that 4th down.
To ask that the team score 30 week in and week out is not being realistic, imo.

Hire a GM.
I strongly believe we will have good GM candidates with the powerful influence of Al Davis no longer in the picture.

The penalty problem is not why I would fire Hue. Let’s make sure you understand that first.
But how do you fix it? I guess I would look toward a coach with a history of disciplined teams. You don’t see these problems in New England, Green Bay, Indianapolis.
San Diego has ranked in the top 10 in fewest penalties the past three years. Interestingly, in Norv’s first season in Oakland, the Raiders improved from dead last to #16 in penalties. (They regressed back to dead last the next year, but he also had an undermining owner to deal with.) I’m not advocating for a Norv revival in Oakland by any stretch LOL. But there is history there that a coach can improve this problem.
Even Tampa Bay had problems when Gruden went there. So clearly some the coaches that have been through the Oakland turnstile are part of the problem.

The defense sucked on those last two drives. We all should agree on that.
But the defense also outscored the offense in that second half. The defense produced six points. The offense produced zero. (Special teams had the other four.)
To say there isn’t an offense problem in Oakland is laughable. Both sides of the ball are disappearing for long stretches in these games. All Raiders fans should be very concerned about both sides.

At some point, I think you need to be able to rely on the defense.
During this 3 game losing streak, they have been non existant.
That defense had a 13 pt lead mayne, with 7 minutes to go in the game.
I’m not saying you’re wrong at all. Let’s just say that you have Hue and the QB position covered as far as beef goes, so I’ll take the defense.
And let me go on record as saying there was NO WAY IN HELL Bush was going to convert that 3rd and 3 with a simple handoff. NO EFFIN WAY!

Well thank you for a reasonable answer. I guess I am just at a loss because NO one seems to be able to answer me on what ANY of our coaches are doing wrong.
Everyone says there is no conspiracy against Oakland, which I am on board with for the most part, but it is VERY clear to me week in and week out that our games are officiated differently. This week for example, early on the 4th and 1, Moore was clearly mugged, but it wasn’t flagged (and thats against a Detroit team that is very near ourselves in penalties) and Suh took his helmet off ON the field after the block, again no flag. These are critical calls, not just your run of the mill oline holding that happens all the time. The refs nit-pick EVERY play for us, but ‘miss’ blatant calls for our opponents. The Raiders do not get the benefit of the doubt with regards to penalties. How does anyone in our organization change the perception that we are the most penalized team, which will alter the refs mindset.

Peeped that. Saw my boy Siva got nominated after the Ville’s last win against Memphis and noticed your boy Dixon’s name on there too. That’s good ish especially considering dude is coming off the bench producing like that. Mizzu is looking solid; and with Kansas choking like they did last night; the Big 12 might be their’s for the taking. Louisville and Mizzu just might meet in March when it’s all said and done.
But yea, Raiders put a damper on even that excitement. I kept looking at the scoreboard noticing the Jets gettin’ smacked and the Broncs taking an L and was at the crib hyped. Came crashing down real quick as soon as Johnson got behind McClain and Mitchell.

I’m just not quite to the point where I’m ready to see a new coach.
I’m more focused on us getting a GM. If that GM wants to fire Hue and bring his own guy in, I’m fine with that.

We brought in TJ Housh, to clearly just go out and be conservative and catch the ball last week, and this CLOWN STILL LET IT HAPPEN!!!

There are bad calls against the Raiders. Everyone knows it. But we do so many stupid things like false starts, neutral zone infractions, illegal formations, late hits out of bounds….just bone headed idiotic stuff that you can’t blame the refs for.
That is on the players and coaches.
Now that Al is gone, maybe we can start looking into players’ intelligence and work ethic instead of just looking for great athletes.
Hopefully all this “keep doing it Al Davis’ way” BS that was spouted off in the days after his death will be dropped and a new GM and with a new mindset can begin re-building this once proud franchise. Al left some young talent in Bush Moore, Ford, Houston, Bryant, McFadden, Wiz, Veldheer and Matt S, but he also left us with the bloated undeserving contracts of Wimbley, Seymour, Huff, Kelly, McClain and Routt. Then Add in Palmer’s huge contract numbers and the loss of 2 high picks, the new GM will have his work cut out for him.

On 2nd and 10 they threw short and in the middle to Pettigrew for 8, two minute warning 3rd and 2.
They pick up the short pass for a first and have clearly setup two calls out of the timeout and immediately go and pick up the sideline pass that was reviewed to Johnson.
Out of bounds, at the 40 with 1:38 to go. Fkn ridiculous.
Hue setup his D to fail, and Shane just challenged our defenses level of failure and they exceeded all expectations.

The Tampa2 has the MLB dropping back to cover the intermediate routes over the middle, and 2 safeties behind him. RoMac did his best to get back there, and boyd was back (not deep enough) but where was the other safety? I think branch was manned up with someone or something. I need to watch the play again, but there definitely was only 1 safety back.

I just do not sit there and watch the Raiders and see plays where I can say, “Boy, that was a smart football play”. Why is that? Do the coaches not go over those situations with the players? I’ve watched our team late in games, say five minutes or less, and we have the lead and RBs and WRs are going out of bounds stopping the clock. Or returners are letting the ball bounce backwards instead of fair catching the ball. Or defenders are bailing teams out with idiotic personal fouls that revive drives and keep the opponent in the games.
Do other teams have similar problems….or is it just The Dumbest Team in America?

I think more than anything hujack City wasn’t prepared for all the Injuries that have plagued us all season. I think that’s a rookie HC mistake but it’s cost us dearly.
We all pretty much said at the beginning of the year that we were really thin in most spots. (Who would have thought that 6 receivers wouldn’t be enough?)
The injuries are now catching up to us and it shows and the opposing team knows. Had to get them back or that door was going to open. ESPN or the NFL Network won’t remember it that way, but that’s what’s happening.
I really didn’t think Chaz and Murphy were such terrible receivers though, but with More and Ford gone look at what’s happened.

But onto the so-called Palmer against ‘Soup debate.
Plain & simple; Palmer is a gunslinger & ‘Soup is a caretaker. . .
How many deep sideline throws from Palmer sailed out of bounds.
How many ‘Soup starts were accompanied by DMAC.
‘Soup can’t win without a successful running game; he is woefully ineffective the more throws he is expected to make & has a tendency to dump the ball off[ no patience (cajones) for the deep routes developing.
Palmer will execute the gameplan regardless of what it is. Go downfield aggressively I he will comply. Caretake the game & throw sparingly & he’ll do that, too.
Palmer is renouned for his sideline throws & accuracy throwing deep.
It’s not even an apt comparison. The only advantages ‘Soup have are he’s younger, has significantly fewer injuries than Palmer & has more athletic ability. That being said ‘Soup has to be prodded to utilize said athletic ability.
‘Soup i sslow to recognize & anticipate; Palmer is one of the best in the game! ‘Soup could never execute a planned 40 or more throws in a game. This so-called “ball security” advantage would go hurtling out the window. Palmer never throws the end zone pick directly @ Patrick Chung. . .
I’ll take Palmer over “Soup any day & I was a huge backer of ‘Soup until he proved those early beatdown he sufffered through for the Deadskins cannot be overcome; he’s like a rescue dog; scarred for life. Can’t look directly @ you; afraid of what lingers in the shadows. . .

Palmer tried to throw too perfect off a pass to Moore in the end zone, and should have saw the single coverage and gave him a chance to make a play, especially being 4th down.
Palmer’s accuracy, velocity and overall rhythm as a QB are all clearly waaay above average.
His decision making and overall “clutchness” are being challenged right now.
I believe Jamarcus was 2-0 in Arrowhead, so Carson needs to man up this weekend, or the clowning will begin.

The defense only gave up ONE TD NET in the second half. The one Curry got wiped out the other Detroit TD.
So the bottom line is, if your offense can score more than 3 points in the second half of the game, you win. Not sure why everyone is having trouble understanding that one.

Whatever they have become has been out of necessity. It’s one thing for your feature back to go down. Loosing all your perimeter playmakers is quite another.
Any reason to bracket Reese if DMoore. Ford & Jones are available? I think not.
Bush certainly wouldn’t be facing eignt + man fronts if the perimeter players were available.
Just think about it; regardless of formation the Raiders can invariably check into a spread configuration. Reese is a WR quality receiver (duh; was one in college, for those not paying attention) & is a decided mismatch( but hardly a feature player); the TE is in play down the opposite seam/hot route; and you have the latest version of the greatest show on turf.
I expect them to lay it on the line Saturday & the Chefs will represent with a bit of a hangover following last week’s headline grabbing win, thus following serve with recent Raiders-Chefs history; winning @ their rivals home.
Last week I(correctly, to my chagrin) predicted the Lions would prevail over our beloved Raiders in a close contest. Madden predicted the same, which is an automatic kiss of death. . .this week I sense a Chefs letdown & a hurt Raider bunch extracting a bit of painful revenge (just one of many vanquished prevailing emotions this coming Christmas Eve)to the tune of 38-13. . .

Y’all realize that Fisher has gone through the same rumors of “losing the locker room” and the Titans experienced their fair share of late-season letdowns under Fisher, right?
The only way Hue should be fired is if A) the Raiders receive a beatdown in the last two games that rivals the first Chiefs or Packers game, and B) if the new GM has a solid plan to clean house and start fresh.
I have a feeling that, much like Holmgren did for Mangini, whatever new GM comes aboard will give Hue another year. Worth seeing what Hue can do with a full offseason and training camp. You don’t get anywhere in this league by firing your coach year after year, especially when the roster isn’t as talented as some of you seem to think it is.

To all the Hue lovers: What do you think about trading him for some draft picks, like they did with Gruden? If he’s such a dam good coach, some teams should be chomping at the bit for that trade, right?

it’s not about being a hue lover it’s that he’s and offense coach and the offense has performed well there’s also the issue of continuity and stability, this young team doesn’t need to get blown up again to start over. bring in a good dc and we’re in the playoffs, shoot still a good chance we make them this year

Wilcots is (Charles Barkley voice) trrrible. Don’t get me wrong, seems like a nice guy and all, but I believe it was the Vikings game he called where there were some absolutely ludicrous penalties called and even when seeing they were ludicrous in slow-mo replay Wilcots would still not question the officiating and go along with the phantom call as if it were the player’s fault.

Mine.
You forget Hue is the top guy in the org on the football side. Don’t you think he might have some input in deciding who the next GM may be. Do you think Mark Davis is going to just allow Hue to be canned in favor of some new guy when Hue was hand-picked by Al and has always been respectful in public of Al, Mark and the organization. On top of that, who’s to say a new GM will want to scrap everything and start over with a new coach after this offense has gone from about a 10 or 11 ppg unit for years before Hue’s arrival to about a 25 ppg unit since he got here?
I say there’s a better chance of Hue becoming the GM than Hue being fired before this off-season.
