Janikowski finally makes it to Pro Bowl

For the past 11 years, Raiders kicker Sebastian Janikowski needed a plane ticket and a game ticket if he wanted any part of the Pro Bowl. Not anymore.
Janikowski was one of three Raiders selected to the Pro Bowl, the league announced Tuesday afternoon. Punter Shane Lechler and defensive tackle Richardy Seymour were the two others.
“What a proud day for the Raiders,” coach Hue Jackson said in a team press release. “We’ve got three guys who exemplify exactly what we’re trying to become on this football team – Shane Lechler, Sebastian Janikowski and Richard Seymour. “We’re excited for them. Those guys will go over to Hawaii and represent us well.”
They might have company, too. Strong safety Tyvon Branch, defensive tackle Tommy Kelly, running back Darren McFadden and fullback Marcel Reece were named as alternates for the game that will be played Jan. 29, in Honolulu.
It’s quite commonplace for numerous players selected to bow out of the game, for one reason or other — injury, lack of interest, still in the playoffs, etc.
This is old hat for Lechler, who was selected for the seventh time in his 12 seasons. Hence, it isn’t surprising to hear that he is just as excited for close friend Janikowski, who has been bypassed before.
“[The selection is] just as exciting as the first time. As soon as I found out … I called (my wife) and told her, and she was
excited,” Lechler said. “I’m excited, and it never gets old because whenever you get voted in by your
peers, that’s the ultimate accomplishment.
“I’m so excited for [Janikowski]. It’s been so overdue for him, probably the best kicker in the league for at least the last five-six years and he’s hitting the ball so good this year. It’s going to be fun just to be able to be out there with him and his wife Laurie and kind of get away from the NFL life and go play an All-Star game.”
Seymour also was selected for the seventh time. He, too, seemed just as excited about the prospect of Janikowski being selected.
“It’s definitely a wonderful honor and I’m happy to go with my teammates who made it,” Seymour said. “I’m definitely
super excited for SeaBass. It’s been a long time coming for him; very deserving. I give my teammates and my coaches a lot of credit, they put me in the right position to make plays. I couldn’t be the player that I am without Tommy Kelly and the guys beside me. So, those guys are definitely deserving, as well, and their time is coming soon.”
Janikowski tied an NFL record with a 63-yard field goal in the regular-season opener. Later, he set a Raiders record with six field goals in one game.
One could make a case that Janikowski is having a career year. Even so, he has had other seasons when he merited a spot in the Pro Bowl,
“It feels great,” Janikowski said. “It took me awhile. I mean, only 12 years, but it feels great and it’s a great honor. I’m
happy to be there. I’m looking forward to it. I can’t do it without Jon Condo and Shane Lechler and the offensive line. They protected and did a great job and that’s what it takes.”

Correction: Steve stated DMC wasn’t willing to take the needle to play.

  • bcz24

He shouldn’t take the needle in his foot. It doesn’t just numb the pain, it numbs all feeling. He simply wont be the same player. He wont have that burst and explosion that he normally has. In other words, he will be a smaller Michael Bush…

  • olinesux

sore? cmon its sore? you gry sore frpm
    lifting weights….man up dmc

  • Deja vu

I don’t think we’ll need him (DMC) this week anyhow, i’d give him another week if he’s still sore. If we make the playoffs and he feels up to it, then great!

  • boss01

250, he didnt say it would either, and so what if there is risk, the future is now, the biggest game is Sunday, I could care less about 2012, granted I have no faith in the defense stopping anybody in the playoffs, but I do think we can win out shootouts with McFadden and Ford back

  • HueKnows

You guys telling DMAC to man up smh. Haven’t you ever seen him hit a defender? The dude is a beast plain and simple. Besides if he is such a puss why would you want him out there?

  • boss01

Thinking you don’t need your star players in big games is what gets coaches fired if you miss the playoffs

  • HueKnows

Hue ain’t getting fired and if he did it has nothing to do with DMAC not playing.

  • boss01

That was a general statement but I will say this, no coincidence that his offensive scheme has crumbled and become mediocre without McFadden, so him getting fired would have a lot to do with McFadden, since he has been kind of exposed as a mediocre play caller and offensive mind wihout having a star running back, his success last year had a lot to do with McFadden’s versatility and this year without McFadden, there hasnt been one game over 30 points

Source: Orlando wants Veteran players in exchange for Howard.

Well, the Lakers can give you Metta World Peace and Andrew Bynum….and Fisher, and Barnes, and Blake etc etc etc.

  • hwnrdr

LOL, come on Dakota…all of them for Howard?
Anyways…I hope at least Taiwan plays for that change of pace back that we have been missing…

Orlando can have anyone on the roster for Howard as long as they leave us with either Bynum or Gasol to go with Howard and Bryant.

    We’ll even take Turkeylugueee.

Dakota, Howard is going to the Bulls for CJ Watson, Ronnie Brewer, and that Turkish dude.

  • Raiderbuck

Well if DMAC can play he should, help get him in shape for the playoffs. He’s going to need a game or two to get back into RB shape.

  • DeuceDeuce

Ive been saying that I’d rather be the 6 seed and play @ Houston.

And remember all the 6 seeds making deep playoff runs lately…

If I did love the NBA I think I would be a Warriors fan but I do prefer college hoops to pros because they actually play defense.

College Hoops? Used to be decent, but now all the talent leaves after a year or two, so they never develop into a team. Pretty unwatchable now.

    Silverandblack666…

the mod surely is Florio, my post criticized his article on Associated Press voting, nothing i wrote was bad language, called him by name, etc,yet others are getting away with all that. simply because he didnt approve it firstly, and ive been reposting it every time he re-deletes it (now about 20 times) he keeps doing it, but then approves some other comment i make afterwards on another article.

Florio is a biatch every way you roll it. He gets so biatchy when people disagree with him.

That’s really messed up your banned from the site. What a joke.

  • Silverandblack666

“Florio is a biatch every way you roll it. He gets so biatchy when people disagree with him.”

I have been thinking this exact same thing for a few years now.

I would also post several times and most would stick but it is exactly like you said if you show his faults in the article or disagree with him they will delete your post.

    Weak sauce!

  • Dakota

McFadden needs to rest up to make sure he is available for the pro bowl.

  • Ryan

It’s a shame none of the Raiders will make it to the Pro Bowl, this year because they will be TOO BUSY WINNING THE SUPER BOWL!

Not likely for a first. Maybe for the third we gave up for him. Interesting prospect though.

Aside from his work on the website, Florio works as a lawyer. He resides in West Virginia. Before creating the site, Florio worked at ESPN.com for a week.[2] Florio is a life-long fan of the Minnesota Vikings.

Kyle Orton is going to have 400 yards passing this weak

    ***

    ABP,

add to that 2 INT’s and sacked 4 times

It’s up to Jones, Battle & McCluster if something needs to get done on offense imo

Bowe will be doubled by Chump Bailey and whoever they got at safety (Dawkins?)

Did you know that the celebrated Jared Allen is a die-hard Raiders fan? It’s ironic. Just like how the Raiders only came into existence because the Vikings AFL team bolted to the NFL and then in Super Bowl XI the Raiders destroyed them 32-14.

  • alex7

All those teams had a chance at Pryor and passed on him repeatedly for a reason. He’s not a good enough passer to be an NFL qb. He’s a Tebow clone without the leadership qualities.

  • Dakota

I’d take a 4th round pick for Pryor. No questions asked.
