If we had only held on an beat the Lions:
We would be 9-6 and only need a win against the
Chargers to win the division. Instead we also
have to hope the Broncos lose to the Chiefs.
In the wild card we would be tied with the
Bengals. We wouldn’t have to also hope that
the Bengals lose because we win the tie breaker
with them based on stength of victory I believe.

the Raiders need to win or tie the San Diego Chargers AND have the Broncos lose to the Chiefs next Sunday for them to win the AFC West
***
Why are we even talking about KC & DEN?
We should focus on slapping down Sandy Eggo and let the chips fall where they may imo
December 27th, 2011 at 6:59 am
The Raiders won despite two interceptions thrown by quarterback Carson Palmer, 15 penalties for 92 yards, 435 yards allowed by the defense and a Chiefs kicker missing two field goals after making 22 straight since late September

BLOCKED FIELD-GOAL ATTEMPTS PLANNED
Those blocked field-goal attempts by defensive tackle Richard Seymour were more than luck or chance. Several players said they were by design.
Linebacker Aaron Curry said special teams coordinator John Fassel and long-snapper Jon Condo spotted a weakness in the Chiefs’ protection during tape study the week before the game

I just looked at the stats it be criminal if Jano does not make the Pro Bowl today. Lechler will go to I guess he has a high gross avg but a disappointing net average because I guess he outkicks his coverage. One thing Lechler doesn’t do is get a lot of fair cathes by the returners for some reason.
I don’t know who else deserves to go on the Raiders. It is tough to pick a d-man considering how rancid their d has been this season.

Seems strange the the Bungholes HAVE to lose for us to make the playoffs if we don’t win the division.
Whatever. I think the Ravens still have something to play for don’t they?
December 27th, 2011 at 8:22 am
Just keep McFadden and Ford on the shelf for next year. We could have something special next year, but we need to be healthy.
No use risking those players against the Chargers. If we can’t beat the Chargers without them, then we don’t deserve to be in the playoffs anyhow.

What’s strange about that?
If they win, they will have 10 wins on the year.
Baltimore has the #2 seed to play for, so they will be going all out.

The Ravens have a lot to play for. They will win.
December 27th, 2011 at 8:30 am
Ravens-Bengals will be a close game though.
Ravens won the last game at home by only a TD, and this one is in Cincy.
Chances are, at halftime (since the Bengals and Donkeys game is at the same time) we will still be unsure if a win will get us in, unless the Donkeys are getting run out of Invesco at the half.

Next Chargers HC?
“Jon Gruden is leaning towards returning to coaching, two sources close to the situation confirmed to me.
The San Diego Union-Tribune first reported that Gruden had decided to return to coaching next season.
However, two sources said late Monday night that while Gruden is indeed leaning towards returning, it’s not certain. But some of this might be semantics. I’m told Gruden wants to see what positions he could possibly get before making a 100 percent final decision and that he hasn’t officially made one yet because of the uncertainty.
(I was also told Gruden didn’t expect this news to get out so soon.)
But again, semantics. He wants to come back. That’s the important part of this story. And while I fully expect Gruden to issue a statement with some sort of non-denial/denial saying he’s happy at ESPN, he’s eyeing a return.
Gruden wants to coach again as soon as possible. That part is fact.
“He’s ready to leave television,” said one source, “but only if the right job is out there.”
And that job, as the Union-Tribune reported, could be the St. Louis Rams.”

December 27th, 2011 at 9:21 am
My conspiracy theorist side of me thinks this…
The NFL wants the Raiders and Broncos in the playoffs, for the networks and media attention.
They’ll rort the games as much as possible to allow the Bengals to lose, the Raiders to win, the Broncos to win, and then really punish the Titans hard to ensure they don’t win. They wont interfere with the Jets-Dolphins game because that doesn’t matter, just ensuring Titans lose for the Raiders to win tie-breaker.
Btw, I have a wild conspiracy theory that Chris Polian elevates to GM role in Indy, Bill moves on to GM Rams, and there’s a handshake deal in place where Bradford is traded to Colts and Rams draft Luck.
December 27th, 2011 at 9:26 am

Not much left to say after such a roller coaster ride of a season.
One question left to ask.
Will the Raiders finally play and coach a full game?
All season long the Raiders have not played a full four quarters, one half of greatness, a second half of meltdowns.
Has it been more mental than physical? or is it that not being physically prepared makes them mentally soft?

ESPN.com – Jeffri Chadiha
Whats next for the non-playoff teams?
Oakland Raiders (4-12)
2008 playoff potential: Please What they need to do to get there: First, they have to make sure rookie quarterback JaMarcus Russell spends an entire offseason at the team’s complex so he can be ready to start next season. They also need to re-sign Justin Fargas, the team’s leading rusher this season, and cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha, who could capture a nice payday on the open market once he voids the final year of his contract. Finding a way to address a defense that dropped back to the bottom of the NFL this season would be a nice step as well.
The reality, however, is that none of these moves would ensure the Raiders a chance of moving up in the NFL ranks. They don’t have enough talent or direction, and that will always be their undoing. It’s too bad, really, because head coach Lane Kiffin really believes he can make a difference in that franchise. Eventually, like most of his predecessors, he’ll realize he can’t.
(Ouch. No Love from ESPN)

Raiders sole focus needs to be on beating the Dis-Chargers.
Try to play disciplined smart, physical football!
Huey needs to pound Bush and Jones and use play action roll outs to buy Palmer time outside the pocket. Use screens.
The defense needs to pressure Cry Me a Rivers up the middle and in front of him to get him to move left….when he moves left he can’t do anything and hopefully when he is flushed left, he will run into Wimbley again!
Do not allow the Chargers to run the football! They will try to run it more in this game, compared to what they tried to do the first game!

It is time for Bush to let them have it. A long pass play set up by his intense running attack.
A few plays with Reece and Taiwan Jones lined in the back field with options wide open.
The Raiders tightend sneeking out and the Chargers knowing after a big catch from the tightend they must guard the middle leaving one on one coverages with our speedy receivers.
The Raiders Defensive backs running with the chargers receivers with a purpose influencing them to run right into the next layer of zone coverage for a pick.
Lets get it done !!!
The Raiders did protect the middle of the field much better the last game than they did all year long, in my opinion.
Go Raiders!!!!!!

Working on some new special teams schemes for this week . Any ideas ? Fake punt ? Fake FG long snap into a Flea flicker ? How bout a blocked punt this week ? I’ll come up with something …
^^^^^^^
Fake punt would be nice versus the Chargers. It almost worked last game. The problem was, they should not have gone deep with Ford. Ford should have just ran a 10-15 yard comback route for Lechler and and Ford would have been wide open because would think Ford or Moore would be going deep.
December 27th, 2011 at 11:21 am
This last game will be a battle.
The Raiders need to WIN the special teams battle and turnover battle, MIX up the offensive play calling….run reverses, fake reverses….throw backfield screens to Moore or Ford or Jones.
Defense needs to step the hell up for this damn game and do NOT make stupid penalties!

^^^^^^^
Ravens are playing for the Division. They shoould be putting pressure on rookie Dalton all game long!
Raiders need to play smart, disciplined, physical football and play within themselves and get that home crowd a WIN to end the season!!
December 27th, 2011 at 11:24 am
As bad as he’s been at times this season, Rivers is the kind of QB who can at any second find his groove and absolutely shred a secondary….particularly one like ours, which has done a pretty solid Keystone Kops impersonation for much of the year.
I’m confident, but cautious. You know Turner would like nothing better (at this point) than to put a capstone on his head coaching career with the Chargers than to knock the Raiders out of the playoffs. He’s going to be gameplanning like a mofo for this one.
Raiders 27
Chargers 23
Palmer leads a game winning 2 minute TD drive.

Odds that players play:
Jones?
Huff?
Ford?
DMAC?
Henderson?
December 27th, 2011 at 11:56 am
Jones 75%
Huff 99%
Ford 20%
DMAC 1%
Henderson 0%
December 27th, 2011 at 11:59 am
Huff and Jones are the 2 most important players on that list, imo.
Jones gives us an edge threat from the RB position and Huff ensures that Boyd doesn’t see the field.
December 27th, 2011 at 11:59 am
Inonewordraider,
Here’s my guesses:
Huff – 98%
Jones – 85%
Ford – 50%
DMac – 5%
Henderson – 0%
December 27th, 2011 at 12:00 pm
Huff ensures that Boyd doesn’t see the field.
+++++++++++++
This cannot be overstated.
Michael Huff at 75% is at least as good as Jerome Boyd at 100% plus has veteran savvy to help make up for being a little hobbled.

What’s up Raider Nation?
December 27th, 2011 at 12:07 pm
For all of those league observers who thought the Raiders were mailing it in the rest of the year, think again. Oakland blew a late lead against the playoff-bound Lions in Week 15, but certainly showed up in that game. On Saturday, the Raiders beat a fired up Chiefs club and crowd fresh off of one of the biggest upsets in recent years. Oakland needs a Denver loss and a win at home versus the Chargers to win the AFC West.
——————————————————-
LOL!
December 27th, 2011 at 12:09 pm
Okay, Nation, here’s my official playoff predctions
This week the AFC sees Raiders over Chargers, Chiefs over Broncos, Texans over Titans, Jets over Dolphins, Ravens over Bengals
Then we get these matchups:
1st seed: New England (bye)
2nd seed: Baltimore (bye)
3rd seed: Houston
4th seed: Oakland
5th seed: Pittsburgh
6th seed: New York Jets
It’d be Pittsburgh at Oakland and the Jets at Houston.
In the NFC, by the by, I’ve got:
1st seed: Packers (bye)
2nd seed: 49ers (bye)
3rd seed: New Orleans
4th seed: Dallas
5th seed: Atlanta
6th seed: Detroit
First round matchups would be Atlanta at Dallas and Detroit at New Orleans

People, I like Hue Jackson and his daring ways, even though they don’t always work. However, he is either stubborn to a fault or stupid. How can you go for bombs when a 1st down results in the same thing (i.e. a win. the risk/reward is not there at the end of the game when a 1st down wins it. It is even more apparent when he goes for a PAT instead of 2 points at that time in the game agaisnt Detroit. The extra point is no better than not getting an extra point in that situation with that little time to go in the game against Detroit. Finaly, how does he not call time out when KC is going to kick the field goal with 39 seconds and running. If he makes it, you have a little time left to get into FG range. If it gets blocked, like it did, you are already in FG range. these calls and non-calls tell me Hue is not very smart. I am yeeling out of my chair and I’m no football genius. If his footbal IQ doesn’t change next year he needs to go.

_____________________________________________________
I almost agree, although I actually think Curry is best suited at one of the OLBs, not interior. The less thinking for that guy, the better.
So I would say from left to right:
Front:Kelly (or Houston), Henderson (and newcomer NT), Seymour
Linebackers: Wimbley, New ILB (wish we still had Thomas Howard for this reason: COVERAGE!), McClain, Curry
Groves not a factor, and I think you have to do much better than Henderson at NT. He’s a cool guy, but way too old at this point.
So in conclusion, to go to a 3-4, the raiders have 5 of the 7 front starters, IMO. They would need a NT and a second ILB to partner with McClain.
And at DE they would have depth with Kelly, Seymour, Houston and Desmond Bryant.
What would you do with Shaughnessy though? He doesnt fit thaty scheme unless we force him as a situational pass rusher like Houston Texans tried with Mario Williams this season. They have similar body styles. Perfect 4-3 DEs. Does he have trade value?
December 27th, 2011 at 5:21 pm
Seymour belongs in the Pro Bowl of idiots.
How many critical personal fouls and ejections has he had in the last two years?
December 27th, 2011 at 5:22 pm
I also think Kelly could be traded if we switch to 3-4 also. He likes to get upfield and might not be very good at being patient and eating up blockers at DE. Does he have any trade value, or is he a little too old now?
December 27th, 2011 at 5:22 pm

Nobody in their right mind could honestly say he had a pro bowl year.
The two fg blocks were huge and it merits our appreciation, but not not enough to merit a pro bowl selection.
December 27th, 2011 at 6:01 pm
’sup fellas.
Congrats to Sebastion Janikowski. It’s an honor long overdue. This should probably have been his 3rd or 4th of these by now.
He struggled to live up to the hype of being a 1st rd pick early in his career. Plus he had other issues both on and off the field.
However, he’s been one of the best in the league for several years now, and I’m glad he’s finally getting recognized for it. Jano is a weapon.
Hopefully, this becomes an annual event as he keeps hitting big kicks for the Silver and Black for years to come.
December 27th, 2011 at 6:03 pm
Bet you Nnamdi is the best CB in the game again by midway next season. He’s been playing man coverage for the past decade. Phily knows this, too. They’re going to give him time. They knew he was basically going to be a no-show this year. They weren’t going to change their entire system for him, so instead they just sacrificed a year to get him broken in. He’s playing a position he hasn’t played since Cal. Watch him start racking up the INTs next season.
December 27th, 2011 at 6:05 pm
If Matt Giordano were on New England or Phily, he’d be in. Print that.
December 27th, 2011 at 6:07 pm
I don’t know when the final votes were tallied, but I’m guessing Seymour’s game last week didn’t hurt him.
December 27th, 2011 at 6:08 pm
Our new GM should cut everyone on our defense except for Giordano, and start over. He probably will too.

My defensive coordinator wishlist is:
(1) Mike Nolan (if we go to 3-4)
(2) Spagnulo(if we stay as 4-3)
(3) Jack Del Rio (4-3 also).
^^^^^^^
I would also put current Raven LB coach and former Pats DC Dean Pees on that list also, if the new GM and Huey want to switch to a 3-4 scheme.

I agree.
The Queefs D needs to show up big and Battle and Jones need to run the rock hard. Orton can’t turn the ball over.

Richard Seymour in the Pro-Bowl??? You have to be joking. How about: “Richard Seymour Should Be Slapped Upside the Head With an Ax-Handle Bowl” ??
That “Bowl” seems much more appropriate considering how Seymour played, and was constantly penalized!

You, as well as most others have fallen for the “Nnamdi, shut down corner” myth. He has only 12 Int’s in 9 seasons. Lester Hays had 39 in the same time period. Matt Giordiano has had 3 this season. Rod Woodson had 73 Int’s, doing “pick 6’s” with 14 of those Int’s. This year “Nnamdi” fell to pieces and looked like a stooge.
Namdi is a slug and slouch, and needs to be slapped with an ax-handle, upside the head, just like Richard Seymour.
Am soooo sick of pretenders.

And you’ve fallen for Al Davis’s excuse for not re-signing him. Those passing on the “myth” of Nnamdi being a shut down corner have far more credibility than Al Davis did. It’s only common knowledge.

On the other hand, KC hates the Raiders and might just lay an egg to let the donks win.
Yep, another conspiracy theory against the Raiders.

& yeah , u gotta like routt . wut many fans dont understand is ,, who else u gonna get thats better ? i mean, look around the league, we aint fina get revis. routt is very good. the TEAM needs defensive ends that cause pressure and tougher safeties. but we do need at least one more above average corner added to the roster

kansas city chiefs fans are saying get rid of dwayne bowe. that shows u how sensitively stupid fans are. that guy is a very good reciever , not perfect , not great , but who they think their gonna get to replace him ? i mean at least keep him and get another very good reciever opposite him.
thats how dumb raider fans act too , ” cut d.h.b. cut blah blah blah. ” naah we need to strategically replace average & useless guys like housh and huff & get rid of cancers like seymour & chris johnson .

Janikowski was drafted cause we need field goals cause we cant get to the red zone. 50 yard line in Jano range.

Jano was drafted becuz the prior year our kicker blew like 3 games by missing easy kicks in the final moments.
Al thought the kicker was actually costing us games and he was right.
I can’t recall who it was though. Cole Ford? Joe Nedney?

I hear ya Sully, but don’t feel you. On what basis of fact does your opinion arise that Nnamdi is a shut down corner ? I just never saw it the games he played, nor his stats taken historically.
Also, we are maybe in concert that AL D’s judgment was totally skewered in the latter years (same as many very elderly men), AL being totally responsible for the Raiders state of mediocrity since 1983, the Gruden years notwithstanding.
