Ford, Jones, Huff ready to roll; McFadden on ice
By Steve Corkran
Thursday, December 29th, 2011 at 11:54 am in Oakland Raiders.
Wide receiver Jacoby Ford, running back Taiwan Jones and free safety Michael Huff are practicing today, which makes it two straight days for all three and increases the likelihood of their playing Sunday against the San Diego Chargers.
The same can’t be said of running back Darren McFadden, who still isn’t healthy enough to practice and has missed the past 67 days with a midfoot sprain.
Coach Hue Jackson said he isn’t fond of using players in a game if they aren’t able to practice at all the week beforehand. In McFadden’s case, he might need a whole week’s worth of practice just to shake off the rust and get back into game shape.
Therefore, it’s almost a foregone conclusion that McFadden won’t play against the Chargers. It’s about the time when the focus should shift to whether McFadden would be able to play again if the Raiders qualify for the AFC Playoffs.
Even that seems like a long-shot, given the Raiders wouldn’t get a first-round bye and their first-round game would be either Jan. 7 or 8.
Defensive tackle Richard Seymour is back at practice after missing one day because of an illness. Fellow tackle John Henderson (knee) still isn’t healthy enough to practice. Henderson has to be very doubtful for Sunday’s game, at this rate.
Ford, Huff and Jones don’t appear to be experiencing any lingering effects from injuries that sidelined them for multiple games. In Ford’s case, he missed the past six games.
The only question is, will Ford be healthy enough to add kick-return duties to his workload. Jackson said Wednesday that he isn’t sold on that idea just yet.
We’ll check with Ford today to see how he feels about pulling double duty after being sidelined since Nov. 10.

The answer to that question according to Steve is NO.

Looks like we’ll get all our other speed weapons back though.
Jones will give us the change of pace perimeter back we’ve lacked and Ford / Moore will keep Safeties from crowding the box, keying on Bush
December 29th, 2011 at 11:59 am
Got Dammit DMAC!
Jones and Bush will get us a win and DMAC better have his wheels on for the playoffs.

KC and Orton have the small ball West Coastian game that can defeat Denver Von-ted pass rush.
Plus, Dawkins has a neck injury
***
Ole,
I hope you’re right. If i’m Romeo Crennel and I want to save my job … I’m telling Tamba Hali & Derrick Johnson to hit Tim Tebow in the mouth after every snap. whether it’s a pass or run play
I honestly think KC will mail it in though. They have nothing to play for and their fans at this point are just hoping for a HC not named Romeo and a higher draft pick. I should know – I have about 50 Cheifs fans for either friends or family
Denver will run the football at will (again). Tebow will have 2 scores and no turnovers (again). You might as well rewatch the last time these two teams played eachother and Orton aint any better than Cassel or Palko imo
December 29th, 2011 at 12:03 pm
I’d rather Dmac be ready to come back full strength and durable for next season at this point.
December 29th, 2011 at 12:06 pm
Hayes and you are such a dumb punk…go to Kell’s job? Why go up to anyone’s job to confront them? That’s fkin retarded! All he will do is call the cops. You think people enjoy being arrested? That’s why, just.like Kell did in 08, I set a place to meet. Noooooo but then you get on Mista and fly lame and false accusations as if you were a distraught high school btch! You defend a known racist who bragged to us about his white wife. He got personal first and got slammed for it. You two are like the kid in school who starts a fight and gets his ass whooped but tattle tells still!
December 29th, 2011 at 12:08 pm
Don’t worry McFadden will be ready for the pro bowl!
December 29th, 2011 at 12:11 pm
I walk this fkin Earth with no fear to talk to anyone even if we don’t agree on all things. Kell had that chance and if you could hear the phone convo you could hear what kind of a chump he was….but you advocate cowardice because you’re a fkin coward too. Sure Kell knows football but its overshadowed by his bitterness and pure hate for Al…..speaking of which you defend someone who lives to dog our leader? Who side are you on? Hayes hardly anyone likes you and when you don’t post for a while no one even cares. You are insignificant with your hey its Great day to be a pom pom gal posts. Hopefully your new year doesn’t ever start…..now I’m done with it…I’ve proved my point as evidenced by Kell backing down again…now on to Raider football

That’s pretty funny.
December 29th, 2011 at 12:13 pm

If Jones balls throughout this playoff run, no denying that a Bush/Jones combo can be effective with the WRs and QB we have.
Have to give up something to get something and we need draft picks. Don’t have the Marc Davis syndrome where you fall in love with a player and can’t trade him.
Bye McFadden, Kelly, and ShoNasty.

I love McFadden as much as the next man; and when I say this; please know that it has nothing to do with my fondness for Bush, but if we make the playoffs and McFadden doesn’t come back to play; I say we trade the guy for picks too. Yea, he’s our best player when healthy; but this is getting ridiculous. We can probably get at least 3 early picks for dude if we act now. One more foot or toe injury from now and the price goes drastically down. Lord knows I truly want to be wrong and McFadden stays healthy after this, but Lisfranc ain’t nothing to play with….the worst thing is the overcompensation he might put on the other foot…

B,
I’ll hold off further comment on the Ws until I see them play a whole game.
Just watched some of the replay of last night Knicks game, and they actually looked decent because of Curry being outta the lineup.
But we all know your starting backcourt is Curry and Monta which just won’t get it done.
Trade Curry for a low post player and I think you might be on to something.

He’s scheduled to make a little less than 6M next year. Great price for his value whether we keep him or not; but we can surely get a lot for him especially at that price. If anything though; the last year of his deal is 2013, so I’m sure we’ll keep him another year (can’t knock that); but I would just hate to see him get hurt again next year and his value goes waaaaay down.

Ford can be used with McCann on kickoffs, but Ford would be mostly used as a decoy. I don’t think he should be running kickoffs back at this point. He needs to be used primarily as a WR and coming out the the backfield on those little quick screens where Ford busts to the outside and out runs everybody.

McFadden’s salary is so cheap the next two years, I actually think we can get a lot for him. I can see a couple teams taking the big risk for him. His contract peaked this year with him making over 8 this year, but he’s in the 5’s the next two years, and everyone in the league still knows his ceiling is ridiculously high… I see a couple 2’s and a 3, maybe even a 1 and a 3 (draft pick wise) if we ship him out this off-season.

McClain is a stud, he just needs to be coached up better. Most of the time he gives up huge runs is because he is trying to shoot the gap too soon. D Fish “held” Rose to zero points for most of he first half. I think he hit at least 4 3 pointers for 12 of his 22.
His 3 wasn’t falling against the Ws so Curry “held” him?
Yeah, ok.

I can say with ease that DHB isn’t a natural WR.
But he plays hard, tough football and plays with an edge and uses his raw athelticism and speed to make plays.
Being that he played 1 year of high school football and 2 years of college, he is getting better every week at 22 yrs old.

Giants-Cowboys is a near impossible game to pick. That game could be a nail-biter, or won by either team by 28. Cowboys definitely should’ve won the last one, but I guess I think the Giants will win this one based on homefield advantage.
Packers and Saints are clearly the class of the conference, IMO. Niners have the best D, but I just don’t see them being able to score with those teams. I think a team like the Lions could give the Niners all they could handle.

what about Marc Trestman & Rich Gannon?
December 29th, 2011 at 2:09 pm
Huff’s return is huge for this game. River’s most reliable target is Gates. He’ll still get his, but Huff should be able to contain him and prevent him from getting deep. Take away that bread and butter option, and then Rivers needs to rely on his WRs to stretch the field. Routt is a good matchup for VJ, so I like the Raiders chances here to cover tight enough to get consistent pressure on Rivers. When that happens, it’s choke time for Phillip!

Most thrilling and enjoyable game I have ever been to in my life and I will be on the phone as soon as the clock strikes double zero once we get the wildcard..

Tebow can not prevail. The AFC West championship is our destiny. It is in the cards. The fact that Kyle Orton is playing against the Broncos is a sign from the football gods. Tebow’s time is over. This is the year of Al Davis not Timothy Tebow.
December 29th, 2011 at 2:16 pm
Fk Tebow… And the Donks …
December 29th, 2011 at 2:17 pm

December 29th, 2011 at 2:17 pm
Don’t count KC out. Many players want Crennel to come back and Orton definitely would like to put a hurt on Denver.
Hes got the weapons to do it. They beat a dinged up Green Bay. They can handle the Donks.

December 29th, 2011 at 2:20 pm
What a dumb move it was by horseface to let Orton go if he beats them…and all for saving 2 mil?
2 mil is not worth trading your playoff hopes for, horseface sucks as gm and he sucked in big games as a qb contrary to what people give him credit for…it should be terrel davis and oline who should get the credit for those superbowls…not ratface or horseface
December 29th, 2011 at 2:22 pm
Suggs, Ngata, Lewis are going to eat the Bengals. Id actually like to see it but Im going to be too busy dissecting how the Raiders destroy SD. This is going to be a very fun game to watch. Weapons flying all over the field on offense. Our defense may not even matter because the O may very well put up 40. The way we smashed Denver last season is how expect this game to turn out. Call it what you want, but SD is done.

That’s the one thing that scares me this week. Norv is probably gone either way and will land a coordinator job pretty much no matter what, so he might just throw every crazy thing he can think of out there and let Rivers air it out 60 times.
I think the key to him not doing that will be to batter Rivers. Norv isn’t going to do something irresponsible to risk the guy’s health.

I expect both Palmer and Rivers to be over 300 yds, possibly 400 yds…the difference will be the picks and the running game. Bush needs to man up, TJ a sorely needed welcome addition, needs to be used in space to spell Bush.
Chokers with a banged up Matthews and Gates, no Vjack will be one dimensional, that will open the door for rivers to throw multiple picks, I predict 3-4 minimum, and on the sideline we will get to see Norv’s stunned clueless look on his face one last time for old time’s sake.

On the other hand, If its Friday, and I know my boss is gettin fired before I come back to work Monday, do I really give a sh!t? Not likely. Rivers is going to be on his back, doing that pose he always does when he gets up, crying with his arms in the air, ALL GAME.

Exactly. Norv is already thinking about where hes gonna be OC next season.
December 29th, 2011 at 2:50 pm
Norv really has nothing to lose though. He may just go out there and have fun, unless his heart’s just not in it anymore and the team is mentally on vacation already.
December 29th, 2011 at 2:51 pm
If the Raiders come to play this week and can play at least 3.5 quarters on defense (would be an improvement!) then the only team that can beat them on the field will be the guys in stripes. I have a scary feeling that every time a defensive player runs within 2 feet of Rivers that a roughing the passer flag will be flying, and if they don’t get near him, there will be some phantom defensive holding call on the opposite side of the field coming out of nowhere.
This game will tell whether the NFL really wants to keep the Raiders out of the playoffs or not.
December 29th, 2011 at 2:52 pm
Key to this one will be the defensive line applying consistent pressure on Rivers. To me that is the No. 1 factor. I expect the offense to get its 24 to 30 points. But I don’t want to get into a wild shootout in this game. I want to just overwhelm them with our intensity and physicality on both sides of the ball. If we can do that, I think we’ll be OK.

Such a love for Taiwan Jones on this site, what exactly are his statitics this year.???
Once a player is pronounced the fastest guy on the team he gets this mystical power on this blog.
For all the team speed we have, why do I see the other team run for long touchdowns, or interceptions or returns against our great speed?
Heck I saw a 0line tackle run 80 yards and make a tackle on the other team in another game I was watching.

December 29th, 2011 at 4:55 pm
Taiwan has speed but he has short field burst and amazing quickness. Always falling forward for yds rarely tackled for a loss.
Only decent hands, amazing vision and patience to read blocks but wstruggles mightily in protection duties.
Reminds me of how DMC used to be when he was a rook.
