Ford, Jones, Huff ready to roll; McFadden on ice

By Steve Corkran
Thursday, December 29th, 2011 at 11:54 am in Oakland Raiders.

Wide receiver Jacoby Ford, running back Taiwan Jones and free safety Michael Huff are practicing today, which makes it two straight days for all three and increases the likelihood of their playing Sunday against the San Diego Chargers.
The same can’t be said of running back Darren McFadden, who still isn’t healthy enough to practice and has missed the past 67 days with a midfoot sprain.
Coach Hue Jackson said he isn’t fond of using players in a game if they aren’t able to practice at all the week beforehand. In McFadden’s case, he might need a whole week’s worth of practice just to shake off the rust and get back into game shape.
Therefore, it’s almost a foregone conclusion that McFadden won’t play against the Chargers. It’s about the time when the focus should shift to whether McFadden would be able to play again if the Raiders qualify for the AFC Playoffs.
Even that seems like a long-shot, given the Raiders wouldn’t get a first-round bye and their first-round game would be either Jan. 7 or 8.
Defensive tackle Richard Seymour is back at practice after missing one day because of an illness. Fellow tackle John Henderson (knee) still isn’t healthy enough to practice. Henderson has to be very doubtful for Sunday’s game, at this rate.
Ford, Huff and Jones don’t appear to be experiencing any lingering effects from injuries that sidelined them for multiple games. In Ford’s case, he missed the past six games.
The only question is, will Ford be healthy enough to add kick-return duties to his workload. Jackson said Wednesday that he isn’t sold on that idea just yet.
We’ll check with Ford today to see how he feels about pulling double duty after being sidelined since Nov. 10.

ABP, One thing is certain: Tebow will never win a Super Bowl!

What a dumb move it was by horseface to let Orton go if he beats them…and all for saving 2 mil?
2 mil is not worth trading your playoff hopes for, horseface sucks as gm and he sucked in big games as a qb contrary to what people give him credit for…it should be terrel davis and oline who should get the credit for those superbowls…not ratface or horseface

Suggs, Ngata, Lewis are going to eat the Bengals. Id actually like to see it but Im going to be too busy dissecting how the Raiders destroy SD. This is going to be a very fun game to watch. Weapons flying all over the field on offense. Our defense may not even matter because the O may very well put up 40. The way we smashed Denver last season is how expect this game to turn out. Call it what you want, but SD is done.

Will Ray Ray be ballin on sunday?

Ok, I’ve seen it on a Raider fan page, but is it official? Are we sold out for Sunday?

    Yes, it’s official

Chargers ain’t laying down. I expect a good ol fashioned AFC West Slugfest.

    Same thing in Denver.

Boss… Yer right… I think the Donks thought the Bears were gonna get Orton…

I hope we destroy San Diego. But, I have yet to gain any confidence in the idea that the Raiders can take care of business when it counts. I guess we will see.

  • raiderinparadise

When Orton was released Elway and Fox admitted they granted Orton what he was asked. Guess they never thought the playoffs would come down to playing against Orton?! Crazy.

  • fingers

And I think Orton thought he was gonna be a Bear again…..fates a funny thing

I get that but … VJax is out, Tolbert is out and Matthews wont be 100%.

Bush has career days agianst SD all the time.

Healthiest team has been in months.

OAK is they play the right game on D, can have their first BIG lopsisded win IMO.

Rivers will be throwing anything, pulling trigger nothing to lose. Therefore that could be good or bad. Sunday will tell.

I don’t think the Chokers will lay down…. I think the Raiders are gonna ” beat them down”…

Thanks for the highlights Raider Mike!

Jets do still have a chance, but they need a lot of help. Not inconceivable though. I would expect them to come out and play hard in this one. Not sure if they’re a better team than Miami at this point though.

That’s the one thing that scares me this week. Norv is probably gone either way and will land a coordinator job pretty much no matter what, so he might just throw every crazy thing he can think of out there and let Rivers air it out 60 times.

I think the key to him not doing that will be to batter Rivers. Norv isn’t going to do something irresponsible to risk the guy’s health.

I expect both Palmer and Rivers to be over 300 yds, possibly 400 yds…the difference will be the picks and the running game. Bush needs to man up, TJ a sorely needed welcome addition, needs to be used in space to spell Bush.

Chokers with a banged up Matthews and Gates, no Vjack will be one dimensional, that will open the door for rivers to throw multiple picks, I predict 3-4 minimum, and on the sideline we will get to see Norv’s stunned clueless look on his face one last time for old time’s sake.

    Screens to Jones..

Jake Long being out gives them a heck of a chance

You can bet the Raiders D front is going after Rivers…. Allday long..

SD is not going to be ready for the plays Hue is going to pull out of his @ss this week. I know he and Saunders are chefing uo some marvelous sh!t to keep our mouths waterin.

On the other hand, If its Friday, and I know my boss is gettin fired before I come back to work Monday, do I really give a sh!t? Not likely. Rivers is going to be on his back, doing that pose he always does when he gets up, crying with his arms in the air, ALL GAME.

  • Just Win Baby

Norv is too conservative down the stretch. Thats why they always lose in the playoffs. He isn’t going to stray too much from the norm on Sunday.

Exactly. Norv is already thinking about where hes gonna be OC next season.

  • Chris in NY

Norv really has nothing to lose though. He may just go out there and have fun, unless his heart’s just not in it anymore and the team is mentally on vacation already.

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nNoi_wwzbtQ Zymurge

If the Raiders come to play this week and can play at least 3.5 quarters on defense (would be an improvement!) then the only team that can beat them on the field will be the guys in stripes. I have a scary feeling that every time a defensive player runs within 2 feet of Rivers that a roughing the passer flag will be flying, and if they don’t get near him, there will be some phantom defensive holding call on the opposite side of the field coming out of nowhere.

This game will tell whether the NFL really wants to keep the Raiders out of the playoffs or not.

  • Chris in NY

Key to this one will be the defensive line applying consistent pressure on Rivers. To me that is the No. 1 factor. I expect the offense to get its 24 to 30 points. But I don’t want to get into a wild shootout in this game. I want to just overwhelm them with our intensity and physicality on both sides of the ball. If we can do that, I think we’ll be OK.

Agreed, But never underestimate the Raiders ability to shoot themselves in the arse with a Rifle.

Palmer is going to have a HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUge day.

  • devilr8er

Raiders win this game big, IMO. The refs will give the donks the game against the Queefs. The NFL wants Teblow in the playoffs.

  • devilr8er

Screen passes to Reece Lighting all day, The SD Super Chokers cant stop the screen game. A screen pass to Reece Lighting is 15 yards minimum.

  • DEATHROW 55

I say the first play on offence we throw the wild cat at them ,tp the qb, tj/ Ford in backfield with dwow in motion and dhb on a double reverse. All 4.2 & 4.3 speed . Pull the trigger hujack

TJ a sorely needed welcome addition ?????

Such a love for Taiwan Jones on this site, what exactly are his statitics this year.???

Once a player is pronounced the fastest guy on the team he gets this mystical power on this blog.

For all the team speed we have, why do I see the other team run for long touchdowns, or interceptions or returns against our great speed?

Heck I saw a 0line tackle run 80 yards and make a tackle on the other team in another game I was watching.

  • alex7

Norv has gone one-and-out in the playoffs once.

He’s started off the playoffs with a win 3 out of the 4 times he’s been there.

Not sure where the “Norv folds” theory came about.

  • GoodOle00

Taiwan has speed but he has short field burst and amazing quickness. Always falling forward for yds rarely tackled for a loss.

Only decent hands, amazing vision and patience to read blocks but wstruggles mightily in protection duties.

Reminds me of how DMC used to be when he was a rook.

    Yikes!
