Raiders practice: Same as it ever was

Subbing for Steve Corkran today . . .

Media window has closed for today with no changes in the status of Raiders players. Michael Huff and Jacoby Ford are on the field and should be good to go against San Diego.

Huff should resume his role as starter, and Ford ought to be available in some for at receiver, although it’s doubtful he’ll return any kickoffs. Taiwan Jones is on the field as well, but given Hue Jackson’s comments Thursday about needing to see him “turn it loose,” his availability is up in the air.

No sign of defensive tackle John Henderson and running back Darren McFadden, who will be ruled “out” in a couple of hours when Jackson talks to the media post-practice.

One interesting sight _ CBS analyst and former Raiders quarterback Rich Gannon in civil, friendly coversation with senior exec John Herrera. Herrera threatned to have Gannon banned from the facility a few years back, believing Gannon to be too harsh when assessing his former team.

Always seemed a little silly. Gannon’s critiques were always on-point and made in part because he was rightly frustrated at seeing what the Raiders had become.

Here’s what you need with a Raiders win:

    Early Games:
    - Texans over Titans
    or
    - Jets over Dolphins

    Late Games:
    - KC over Denver
or (if we get at least 1 of the 2 results we’re looking for in the early games)
    - Baltimore over Bengals.

So we’ll know at about the start of our game if we have two doors in or just one.

Jerry, any word on injuries for Chargers and Broncos?

Raiders and zone this year? A bust. Hue had it down last year and a winning formula.

He watched college tape of his guys and asked them “What plays did you like running?”

    Play to your talents strengths.

Oaklands secondary was built to play man, hint hint…

Vincent Jackson – WR – Chargers Vincent Jackson (groin) was held out of practice again on Thursday.
The always reliable San Diego Union-Tribune expects V-Jax to sit out against the Raiders, but coach Norv Turner is reportedly “as hopeful (this week) as he was last week” about Jackson’s status. Turner said the fact that the Chargers are essentially playing a meaningless game this weekend won’t factor into whether or not V-Jax plays. His status will be updated Friday. Mike Tolbert – RB – Chargers Mike Tolbert (hamstring) missed practice again on Thursday.
Tolbert is falling behind Ryan Mathews (calf), who returned to the field today. Check back Friday afternoon for an update on Tolbert’s status for the Raiders game.

There might be a record number of pick-sixes in the Jags-Colts game as each team wants to lose; the Colts want to lose to get the #1 pick and the Jags want to lose to make sure the Colts don’t get the #1 pick.

  • GoodOle00

    15. There is precedent…

  • GoodOle00

    16. Nice!

Not sure about V.Jax playing Sunday. The “business decision” would be for him to sit.

Hes made his statement this year and deserves a look by teams for the that big money long term deal AJ was never going to give him.

He plays Sunday and plays slow, looks bad or gets hurt more it only affects his bottom line.

If I were him, I’d sit.

One of Hue’s first decisions in the offseason is to fire Herrera. That guy is pure negativity and an ass kissing yes man. No need for his brown nosing ways now that Al is gone. Then trade or cut McFragile, Seymour, Schilens, Murphy, most of our DB’S and several lineman. Add a big play wr and rb and a playmaker on D. A GM would be nice too. This team is a dumpster fire.

  • Chris in NY

Not a snowball’s chance V-Jax plays this week. Dude has a contentious history with Chargers management and is going into a contract year. Would be absurd for him to play in this game. Anyone see what happened to AP last week? Think Jackson’s going to risk his career and big payday for a franchise that’s shafted him repeatedly? No way.

  • GoodOle00

    Heres the deal.

Penalties? Yeah, we’ll break the record this year. So what?

Yes it sucks but its as Raider as Stick em’ or the Snake.

As long as we win, who cares?

Oakland seems to get mad and focus more when the refs are riding us and we’ve got double digit penalties.

Feels pretty good to know they’ve thrown everything at you, you didn’t play your best and you STILL kicked their azz.

There is something wrong with that franchise. The shine is off A.J. Smiths shoes. His last few drafts have not been very good. He has had some problem players, Ryan “fumbalina” Mathews can run but he coughs it up more than choking infant. Norphus is finished as well. And They are moving to LA yet they don’t want anyone to know about it. Get out the butter and jam. They’re toast.

  • http://raiders.com Albert Bigelow Villapiano

Reggie Bush isn’t playing against the Jets. That is good.

  • Chris in NY

Here’s the thing with A.J. Smith: How do you fire a coach coming off a 14-2 season?

Not to mention openly and publicly mock LT, arguably the greatest player in your franchise’s history.

Ridiculous. This isn’t the 60s or 70s anymore, man, and the penalties have played a large role in crippling this franchise for the past 20 years. You still buying that musty old bs Davis was spewing right up to the bitter end?

I’m not sure what you guys think McFadden is going to do against Pittsburgh or Baltimore. Especially if the Raiders give up a lead early in the game.

  • The Big Banana

So, if we get the wildcard, we go to Houston. And if we get the division, Pittsburgh or Baltimore comes to town.

    Is that right?

I think I’d rather the wildcard scenario.

I would be the most surprised Raider fan on this site if McFadden plays again this year. If we with a miracle would make it to the Super Bowl, Jackson would still be saying that we are close but he is a no go.
