Huff switching from FS to CB in 2012
By Steve Corkran
Tuesday, January 3rd, 2012 at 2:59 pm in Oakland Raiders.
In the first of what promises to be a slew of changes, Michael Huff is converting from free safety to cornerback next season.
Huff played cornerback at times during a stellar collegiate career at the University of Texas. He has played it sparingly for the Raiders during his six-year career, mostly in the nickel package.
However, without a proven option opposite seven-year veteran Stanford Routt, coach Hue Jackson has decided to move Huff in an attempt to shore up a weakness.
The Raiders tried veteran Chris Johnson in that spot this season. However, a groin injury suffered by Johnson in training camp derailed his season.
From there, the Raiders used rookies DeMarcus Van Dyke and Chimdi Chekwa, as well as veteran Lito Sheppard.
None panned out as well as hoped for, if not expected.
Huff is excited about the prospect of taking on a new challenge. He always has fancied himself as a versatile player who is capable of playing any position in the secondary.
At cornerback, Huff will be able to match up better against receivers who aren’t as big and strong as the players he dealt with on a regular basis at safety.
Chuck Bresnahan remains the defensive coordinator for now. However, it’s likely that Jackson will insist upon a change once a general manager is hired.
If there is a change, the new defensive coordinator would be told by Jackson that Huff now is a cornerback.
So, in essence, the Raiders are hoping that Huff that can fill the void created by the departure of Nnamdi Asomugha to the Philadelphia Eagles via free agency before the 2011 season.

Great, glad they are making this move in time for this weekends game!!!
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:04 pm
At 6′1′, at least he will not be as overmatched as Lito Sheppard was at 5′10′ and will be able to jump.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:05 pm
So Mistic is furious over the Carson Palmer dealing, and clearly a tad frustrated with his former BFF Hue Jackson making the move.
Maybe next time you won’t mock a quality backup QB like Bruce Gradkwoski. If Gradkowski were still here, we might have tried to stay the course with him for this year, and bring back Soup next year.
Serves you fkn right for being only a fan of certain players.

January 3rd, 2012 at 3:05 pm
Hey, just tow effin plays by the D and we’re preparing for next week. Thsats it, that simple. Two effin defensive plays. I could go on and say if we had better D management, we’d be 13-3. Legit. But I won’t. Don’t want to go there. Just need the good D.

January 3rd, 2012 at 3:06 pm
I remember that now-out-of-the NFL Jason Hill WR from Jacksonville blowing past Huff last year when he was lined up at corner.
Although, probably couldn’t be worse than Lito was at the end of the year.
Still hope CJ can come back. At least with his PI’s, guys weren’t jogging into the end zone at the end of the play like they were this weekend.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:08 pm
Santonio Holmes looks to be on the outs in New York. He is a really talented receiver.
I don’t share Cork’s opinion though that we need to make a big move at receiver. If DHB can improve further still paired with Moore and Ford in the mix that could be a bigtime combo. Throw in Murphy, who started to look like he was getting back to form later in the season, and Schilens and I really like that group.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:09 pm
At least Bruce Gradkowski will have some playoff memorobilia for the walls of his new Sports Bar in Toledo.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:09 pm
If there is a change, the new defensive coordinator would be told by Jackson that Huff now is a cornerback.
*****************
Is HueJax taking over or having a bigger hand in the D now? Forget what the D cordinator sees. GM/HC HueJax wants Huff at CB. Thats cool. Maybe Al did teach Hue well.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:09 pm
Don’t forget his ringing endorsement for Boller to be the backup…
***********************
Coming into this season, Boller was 1-9 in his previous 10 starts with 9 TD’s to 23 total turnovers, lol.
But hey, maybe he didn’t have as many “dropped” INT’s that Mistic tallies.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:09 pm
Look the bottom line is this. We have Carson Palmer. He is a top notch calibur passer. He throws a lot of picks because he pushes the ball down the field. He also makes much more explosive plays because of this risk taking style.
Campbell was much more steady, less turnovers. But his best plays over the past 2 years came off of screen passes and dump offs. nothing over 15 yards it seems. Campbell relies on the run game to set up the pass. Whereas Palmer can put the team on his shoulders, and throw the ball all over the yard when protected and healthy.
Campbell is a great guy and great for the locker room, by all indications, but he cant win a championship for you.
With DMC healthy and any semblance of a defense, Palmer has this team as a playoff favorite and probably 11-5. Even with all the INTs. Campbell is just too limited in ability for that to ever be the case.
My biggest problem with Palmer is that I wish he didnt cost us so much for the future. Had we waited until the offseason to get him, he would have cost us much less, like a 3rd rounder. But we also wouldnt have been in any kind of playoff race and would be in the top 10 pick range, with Boller under center. How are we going to get better on defense when we have so few picks?
These are my thoughts on the Palmer/Campbell issues and the dilemna it has created for our beloved team. Would it have been worth it to throw this season away and wait to get Palmer and still have these picks knowing we have lots of talent for th future? Maybe so…

Hue’s false statements to date:
We’re going to build a bully
I know what needs to be fixed and I will fix it
We’re going to win the AFC west
The best players will play
Players will be held accountable
Who can trust anything this guy says? He’s all about what’s best for Hue Jackson, NOT what’s best for the team. The way he separates himself from problem areas on HIS team is a telling trait.
He saw in the 2nd game of the season that the defense was in a shambles, and he chose to ride with it the rest of the season? How is that being accountable?
There is no way on Earth Hue should have more of a hand in anything to do with the team. He’s turning into a dumpster fire in Alameda.
He DID out-perform my expectations. When he was promoted, I told everyone I know that they’d be 7-9 this year.

Chris in NY, how can you be so sure that Hue will be back? I make it 50-50.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:21 pm
Hopefully a full offseason helps Huff make the conversion, because previous efforts to plug Huff in at CB have been a disaster.
Still, might be the best option since the Raiders have bigger problems on defense, and Lito Sheppard and Chris Johnson won’t be back. It’ll give Chekwa and DVD some time to mature as well.
Wonder if we’ll see Chekwa at FS. Hopefully the coaches don’t expect Giordano, Mike Mitchell, or Tyvon Branch to take over at FS.

I’m open to any changes that will make the team better but switching players’ positions can also be viewed as the team having no better option. If they follow that logic they should keep Bush as the starting tailback with Jones backing him up and switch DMac to wide receiver. He’s got better hands than the rest and he’s damn near faster than Bey.
Also, why isn’t Huff replacing Routt? Isn’t Routt the same defender who has received more penalties than the whole Green Bay defense? Trust me, Routt wasn’t being groomed to replace Nnamdi, he’s starting only because there’s no one else on the team better.

Who the fk said anything about McClain? I don’t know why you’re even bringing that one up. And Cork is tasked with getting as much info about the team for his readers as he can. Who could blame him for being irritated by that?
Where are your examples of Cork’s bias against Hue? I will patiently await your response. I wish he were biased against Hue. He and I would be in agreement on that point. Pretty much everyone outside of a vocal segment of Raiders fans questions Hue’s ability to lead this team. Back-to-back games being down 34-0 is not a sign of a coach that knows how to get his team ready to play.
And so what if Cork was wrong about the SD game? So were a lot of people. I saw a running list on here before the game where guys were predicting all kinds of lopsided scores in the Raiders favor. Show me one NFL writer that is 100% on his picks. If anything, Cork overestimated Hue’s ability to get the team focused and prepared to play this game. That doesn’t sound like a guy who is biased against Hue.

He got five picks (tied for team lead) and 2 of them were clutch (v. Denver in the operner and v. San Diego (NFL Network game), and he had another v. San Diego.
STFU…he was the only dude with any heart on the d last year, PERIOD

Wow, didn’t address the point I made at ALL! So you think he looked good blitzing? That Bres called the right play? Gio had a nice blitz in the openier, but looked soft in the last few games blitzing. I was commenting on one aspect of his game.

Does it all have to be on Palmer? This is not tennis…or golf. One guy DOES NOT make a football team. When Hue made the trade I dont think he counted on DMC to be out for the season and multiple injuries to our WR’s…
What pick thrown by Palmer (besides this last fall down) cost us a game? Did the D ever show up this year and Palmer blew it? What games are you watching?

When Palmer has time he could very easily be THE MOST accurate Q in the league. He has led the league in completion percentage before. Steve has clearly whined about McClain not giving interviews, has clearly voiced his bias against “Hubert” time and again and stated emphatically numerous times that “the Chargers according to his years of experience, had given up on their HC and their season. He fully expected a massive raider blow out. WRONG!!!!
———————————-
Who the fk said anything about McClain?
And it’s Texas, not Taxas. We leave the Taxing to the Californians and east coasters.

January 3rd, 2012 at 3:42 pm
A Nation divided.
That’s what 8-8 does. One can say look at the 8 losses, the other look at wins. Plus, add a bunch of excuses and there Hue go.
One sides with HueSux and Palmer, the other side wants them both fired.
No matter what it’s said or written from either side, the Raiders are stuck with both for the next season.
Can’t predict anything, but I can say that HueSux will have it all his way. His histrionics of Sunday and then Monday made things very clear. He wants more control of the organization, and that’s a bottom line. Given by chance that a strong GM would be hired to control HueSux, that would only cause trouble. My guess is that Mark Davis and Amy Trask, plus the “council of elders,” would rather have an egomaniac running the Raiders.
The team does become the reflection of the coach. HueSux saw what the Raiders were like on the Buffalo game, and they were just like him, so he went on a 14-game denial. It was ALL on HueSux, until the end when it was ALL on everybody else.
You’d better believe that it will be ALL on HueSux from now on. HueSux will have a puppet GM in line with his “vision,” make that illusion. Surround his offense around Palmer, and will ride Carson until the wheels come off.

January 3rd, 2012 at 3:46 pm
I asked Steve about Hue botching the preseason game coin toss and the forshadowing that that was.
He tossed in his response that Hiram got hurt for the year on the drive to start the 2nd half that should have never happened.
If Hiram is healthy, Boyd isn’t on the field, lending a massive hand in the botching of the Buffalo and Detroit game.
You guys all laughed it off at the time, but that f’d up coin toss had serious repurcussions on the season!!
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:47 pm
The fundamental problem today is that we have this Y in the road:
1. Keep Hue (he deserves to stay) and hire a new, proven DC that may even come with a new base D. This new tandom could work and succeed in flux with on-field position upgrades, development. I would not mind this scenario as a fan.
2. BUT, the elephant in the room is the fact that Mark Davis and Trask have a chance to hire a GM, who can choose and attract a proven HC, and that HC can choose and attract his staff. A CLEAN and ABSOLUTE revamp of the leadership in staff. New territory for the Raiders, but if you are gonna do something you do it right.
That is not to say Hue SHOULD be fired, I am only presenting the scenario that is surely being brainstormed in Alameda by the real powers that be…

I find it funny that so many people are mad at Hue for not holding his players accountable for the penalties, yet DAMN NEAR everyone applauded him after the Minnesota game when he was crying conspiracy.
***********************
You are wrong. He did not cry conspiracy, he pointed out a FACT. He was not getting the same treatment from the officials as his counterpart in that game.
If you don’t think that was one of the most poorly officiated games you have seen in a long time, you don’t know what a penalty is.
I know defending Hue Jackson right now is probably a little harder than justifying the invasion of Iraq, so I am not really going to have this convo. It is just completely ludicrous to me that anyone in here, after seeing the never ending revolving door of HC’s would call for a guys head after one mediocre season.
If I told you before the season that ANY team in the NFL (let alone one with a ROOKIE HC) would lose its best DB and best receiver in Free Agency, its GM (however poor you feel he did his job) its starting qb in week 6, rb in week 7, have a revolving door at WR and in the secondary all year, be ranked lower than 27th in the league in every defensive category, and lead the league in penalties, and then asked you to predict their record, I am pretty sure you would say 4-12, 5-11 range. To have finished 8-8 is horribly disappointing to us as Raider fans, but all things considered, isn’t too bad of a year. A lot of things need to be corrected, and I think the measure of Hue Jackson’s coaching career will be how he does in year 2 and beyond.

Huff-convert to a corner*Hue is giving Huff this ultimatum because it FORCES him to work hard over the offseason and it may be UNACHIEVABLE goal..
Carlisle-replaced by Ben Grubbs*yes lets plug in a starting, college LT here..big and bad
Barnes-replaced by Kareem McKenzie or best rookie tackle Marcel Jones, Neb?*yes, lets plug in a starting, college LT here too..big and bad
Satele-replaced by Wiz 2.0*yes clearly
Mcclain- joins Audie Cole or Vontaze Burfect at ILB* I am not clear on Burficts cover skill so all I will say is get some covering LB’s..we have beefstrong.
McFadden-trade cause this seems like chronic fragility – would you take Bills Fred Jackson, a 2 in 2012 and a conditional 3 in 2013?* I dont think Buffalo would ever agree to that deal. Beside that, i am thinking younger and fresher…
We need to see what the league is giving us in comp picks for Nnamdi, Miller, Gallery, etc…..we WILL be in this draft, print that. We may not be in round 1, but we will get ours!
============
Have to wait for a GM to be put in place, but things appear looking up. – I may pass on Burfect, though – he had a down season, and a lot of people say he’s immature. – Hoping for lots of moves and the RIGHT ONES.

We will get a comp pick for Nnamdi (probably the first one, pick #97).
Will get nothing for Miller, because we signed Boss.
Doubt Gallery will give us anything. Maybe a compensatory 6th or 7th rounder. I mean Heyer started as many games the previous two years as Gallery did, is Washington going to get a compensatory pick for losing Stephen Heyer?

I asked Steve about Hue botching the preseason game coin toss and the forshadowing that that was.
He tossed in his response that Hiram got hurt for the year on the drive to start the 2nd half that should have never happened.
If Hiram is healthy, Boyd isn’t on the field, lending a massive hand in the botching of the Buffalo and Detroit game.
You guys all laughed it off at the time, but that f’d up coin toss had serious repurcussions on the season!!
***************************
Yeah… losing Hiram Eugene in the first preseason game had a bigger bearing on our season than our trash defense, lost QB, lost RB, constant revolving door at WR and in the secondary… Go watch the Butterfly Effect a few more times while you are at. LOL
By the way, why is it Hue’s fault that 2 team captains simultaneously spoke, and one said the wrong thing, (an NFL Veteran mind you) and the ref chose to, instead of clarifying, go with the first thing he heard. I want you to answer this honestly… Should Andy Reid have been fired because Donovan McNabb didn’t know the OT rules a few years back?

Team Tebow 12 Steelers 5
Tebow Time will not be needed for this one !
January 3rd, 2012 at 4:06 pm
Hue should be back, period.
Why?.
Because his team won 8 games and was a playoff contender until the very end under the following circumstances, in no particular order:
a).- He was saddled with a Defense that actually made the history books (not since the 1950’s had a team allowed both 30 plus TD passes and over 5 yards a carry) this year both Tampa and Oakland accomplished that feat, TB went 4-12, we went 8-8.
b).- He lost his starting QB 6 games into the season.
c).- He lost his best player after just 7 games.
d).- A ton of players missed key games.
e).- The team’s GM friggin’ died durng the season.
For God’s sake has that ever happened to any Coach in history? …. Hue was forced to spent less time coaching and more time looking at personnel moves.
f).- Because of the lockout Hue didn’t have the normal off-season activities that are so important for new coaches, specially rookie head coaches.
g).- Has any NFL coach in modern history been fired after winning 8 games during his 1st season?.
Those are not excuses, those are facts.
Would you have believed someone if he had told you before the season started that we would get a combined 13 games from Campbell-McFadden and they would not play a down after week 8 and that the Defense would finish ranked 29th … but that we would be fighting for the playoffs until the last game of the season?.

I believe he took over for a 4-12 team, and immediately cleaned up the penalties, so no.
Hue’s team tied the same record as last year, with a worse division record, worse home record, and found a way to break the NFL record in penalties.

But he didn’t cry conspiracy. I don’t understand why you are saying he did. He didn’t even really question the penalties! He questioned why the refs wouldn’t come talk to him on the sidelines after they made those BS calls. It was something that NEEDED to be said man. I never seen these team captains botch a coin toss until Hue was in charge.
****************************
You don’t like Hue Jackson. I get it. Do you really think Hue Jackson or any other NFL HC even THINKS about discussing how the coin flip should go? I played football for a lot of years and even at the lowest the levels the coin flip was never really discussed. As an NFL HC you simply assume that NFL Vets are capable of handling the coin flip. Hue told them, if you win, defer. And then one of the geniuses he was saddled with said ‘kick off’ because these jackass players spend too much time playing Madden, where your choices are to kick or receive, not ‘defer’, and not enough time being professional football players.
I would bet that if before that incident happened you interviewed all 1200+ NFL players, and even every member of every coaching staff, and asked ‘What do you think would happen during the opening coin toss if you said kick off instead of defer?’ less than 10% of the players, and probably less than 50% of coaches would have known that saying that would allow the other team to receive both halves.
I also know that even the referee who made the ruling apologized to Hue for not allowing the captains to clarify their answer before making his ruling.
Yep. Fire Hue for not knowing how to win a coin toss in the NFL.

Its WIDE OPEN next year – especially if Tebow is your QB, believe me. He’s been solved, my friend – you did see the Buffalo game, right. You guys BACKED in. PATHETIC.
San Diego, Oakland Kansas City (if they get a QB), THEN DENVER.
======================
No Sam…DMC will be back the week of the pro-bowl primed and ready with no ill effects of a foot sprain…A FOOT SPRAIN (after keeping his pads on STANDING on the sidelines on the game it got hurt)
====================
as long as he drops his buck sixty-five on the broncos with 3 TDs, i got no problem with him. If its an injury prone thing – trade him

January 3rd, 2012 at 4:40 pm
Let an late arriving east coast expert weigh in:
Palmer is the best QB since Stabler, Gannon was very good but didn’t lift the team against the Ravens in 2000 and the Superbowl nuff said
Campbell was developing his confidence but I doubt he gets it back. He needs to carry a team for a season to get to Carson’s level
Huff should have been moved years ago, he never had the size to play safety at this level. He should have been molded under Asomugha (similar body type, long arms) and 4.35 speed coming out of the draft. Most often guys kick inside not outside. Good time to tell him so he can prepare now in terms of technique, quick twitch change of direction drills, and outside tree route recognition
DVD will be a good nickel corner, not really big enough to be FT corner
Checkwa jury still out. Lito Sheppard regressed after a decent start, just layed off guys and gave up easy completions. Hell one of us could do that.
Hue is a great coach, not perfect coach. Made some bad calls/decisions this year but the team responds to him and plays Raider football under him, something I haven’t seen in a long time, including the Gruden short passing game years.
Michael Bush compliments not replace DMC, but should have gotten more run early
Boss underutilized in the passing game
Wiz played far better at guard than I thought he would, but would be even better at center
OT Barnes did not play as badly as you guys are ragging on him, especially after he stopped the false start BS.
Giordano was ok, ints were timely and he seemed to know his assignments but he lacks the speed even tho he has heart. Not as good as Vann McElroy, but he showed he was a hitter the last game. In fact the only good thing about the Chargers game was the Def was hitting especially early on. Running game has to close out the deal when we get in red zone.
There you have it

Who would you rather have in charge and in control Jeff Fisher or HueSux?
How do you think the Ben-gals feel now?
Last year today they were 4-12 with Palmer, now they’re 9-7 without Palmer and in the playoffs. They have not one but two of the most promising young talents in the league, plus a receiver that can leap over tall buildings. They are in a great position to beat the Texans, they just missed beating them a couple of weeks ago, in Houston.
Even if they lose to the Texans, they’ll be sitting pretty in the next draft with a fat 17th pick, plus their own.
Of course, the Palmer trade was the greatest trade ever in NFL history, yes if you’re a Cincinnati Bengal.

Steve must’ve heard it from someone in the know like Huff hinslef but its still sounds spurious given the fact we may have a new GM and DC next year. According to Steve we may even have a new HC.

Hue’s problem this year was simple:
Al Davis died, there was no hierarchy established so Hue inherited all of this power and responsibility and honestly couldn’t effectively handle it all. Simple.
Hue should be stripped of his autonomous power and forced to do what he is paid to do…Coach the football team.
That means, he needs to give up play calling duties, preferably to Al Saunders, one of the brightest offensive football minds in football.
Hue should use that extra time to have regular game planning and war room meetings with Carson Palmer and be better prepared for game time situations like, clock management, proper game time communication, etc.
Furthermore a GM must be hired to deal with personnel decisions with Hue having a reasonable amount of input.
Finally, the defensive line and coaches must be completely revamped and the secondary restructured.
It seems like a lot, and it very well may be. But Firing Hue Jackson is not the BEST solution to our problems. Limiting his power and control and narrowing his focus and responsibilities are.
That is a non emotional, logically based assessment of our situation.

Obviously, in this one I totally disagree with Monty. Regardless of what happened this year, and plenty did, a lot amounts to excuses and cop-outs.
It isn’t what HueSux did or didn’t do, it’s what his made of that counts.
Regardless of who is hire, this GM better be in-line with HueSux “vision,” whatever that is, or else that illusive symbiotic relation will not happen. This relation should go likes this, HueSux gets what he wants or else, anything other than will never work for HueSux.
In HueSux paradise, everybody else is accountable except Coach Jackson, for Hue, roll in the excuses.

274. Watched all the pre draft work watched all the post draft work on Tebows throwing motion and the very very first time he got pressured reverted right back to his horrid techinque.
he is what he is. Either design around him and pray teams don;t figure out simply kill him everytime he runs option or get a real QB.
January 3rd, 2012 at 5:11 pm
On offense:
The entire middle to right side of the offensive line must be restructured.
That means no more Satele, Carlisle, or Barnes in the starting lineup. Those were Tom Cable’s players, because he thought they would be more effective in a ZONE blocking scheme. We are supposedly a predominantly POWER scheme now, so these three players do not FIT our current plans.
Move Wiz II to center and either find a place for Bruce Campbell on the o-line or waive him. The non use of him and waste of a roster spot makes no sense. But the kid is big, strong and athletic. I say give him a shot to show us what he can really do going into year 3 as a pro.
Finally make sure we have the following:
At least 1 veteran, proven big play receiver. Names like Vincent Jackson, Desean Jackson, and Santonio Holmes have come up in blog talk. I am not endorsing or rejecting these players, and I am aware that they all have character questions as regards, sulking, pouting, and team chemistry. However those are the types of PROVEN, VETERAN, WR talents that we need to solidify our young core.
Force DHB to practice catching with his hands. He should not be a starter until he can do this effectively. Moore and the aforementioned proven vet should be the two starters.
Make sure that we have 2 quality back up QB’s. Palmer is the starter right now. If Jason can be retained, by all means do so. Hue alluded to this in the presser yesterday, so I’m simply going by his statements. Open up a legit QB competition next season. If Terrele Pryor is not capable of being the future, CUT HIM. Get a QB who can.
Make sure Taiwan Jones puts on some weight this off season and utilize him and Bush. If we cannot get Bush, I would love to see Marshawn Lynch “Beast Mode in Silver and Black. WE should keep Mcfadden, but we cannot rely on him to last a full 16 game season.
We are on the cusp of greatness. But these changes must be made. RIP AL Davis. We will be back!

“Does more with less” so he’s an efficient head coach.
Its how he could reach players, more so than out coaching people, and he’s a gadget guy…very much the same as Hue Jackson, only he had a defense, and went to a SB. He’s bound for St. Louis according to Jason LaConfora of NFL Network.
I dont think there is a high profile GM coming to Oakland, giving the status/location and dysfunction that has existed here…its a situation made for an up and coming GM making to make a name for himself. What i fear is a lesser candidate that is a Scouting type that Jackson would have leverage over. This thing is could be very contentious moving forward….a power grab is looming on both ends.

Not crazy at all. Look how many picks Stabler through (regardless of his SB win). Thats why he isn’t in the HOF, now. Same with Gannon – in SB. That isn’t stupid at all – look how bad the quarterbacking was in those eras as well , compared to now.

He’s been through constant changing of players around him and coaches and he STILL has been getting the job done consistantly! Unfortunately, based on Hue’s comments the last couple of days, he will not accept diminished power. He wants more power.
Let me give you a direct quote from Hue when he was talking about how he knows where the team should be going and he should be involved in hiring a GM:
“Because if not, then I shouldn’t be where I’m sitting.”
That doesn’t sound like a guy who will willingly take a reduced role.
If he isn’t fired, let us all hope his ego doesn’t accept the limited power and narrowed focus and he leaves on his own.

Agree completely. Trent Baalke didnt build that team, Scot McCloughan did, and he was shown the door rudely…never was an explanation , but he’s as much the reason for SF’s thing as Harbaugh is. His accuracy is elite. And what exactly did Gannon win? The AFC West, right? A conference championship true, but that Superbowl showed he was a one trick pony. He kept getting picked because he kept looking to the left before throwing back across the middle and the Bucs keyed that for 5 interceptions.

Haha. Finally somebody with some testicular fortitude.
Nice try buddy, but you still lose. Gruden may not have made THOSE mistakes, but he must have mead other mistakes that cost us to lose 8 times in consecutive seasons. Mind you, he lost 8 times as the head coach, had a whole off season to fix it, and then came back and lost 8 more times AGAIN!
Shouldn’t he have been fired? Arguing about WHICH mistakes Gruden made which cost us wins made as opposed to which mistakes Hue made is completely meaningless. The end result is WINS.
You sound like somebody trying to argue about which pile of sh*t is smellier than the other.
Bottom line is Gruden didn’t get it done his first two years. But after that he built the team that led us back to some football glory. The big difference is Gruden had Al Davis to reel him in.

When Gruden coached, guys like Bubby Brister and Jay Fiedler were starting QB’s, much different era now, teams too evenly matched. Too much is on a head coach for penalties, because refs call penalties when they want to – they ignore a lot of penalties as well (when Tebow got spun around by his head and facemasked v. KC’s Tamba Hali) they didnt call it
Too much is made over that. I’ll agree on H.Jackson in terms of him managing the clock badly and the Jason Campbell issue….

As for Cooper Carlisle I have been saying cut the guy for two years, but his on field play makes it hard to do that. He is consistent, not much power, nota lot of negative (holding, offsides) plays. I disagree with you about firing Hue right now. I think he needs to be on a very short leash though.
He should have one year to have the chance to pick his own defensive coordinator and coaches, and maintain some continuity. I think its only fair. But if he doesn’t get it done with all the changes that are in store, he should definitely go.
And yes, I agree, cutting Hagan was an arrogant bonehead move by Hue. But that ain’t why we ain’t in the playoffs.
It’s that Pop Warner defense that we have to blame for that.

Khalif Barnes was flagged 10 times this year, Veldheer 8.
Carlisle had 3 flags this year, 3 last year, and an amazing Zero in 2009.
So basically both our tackles were flagged more this season than the past 3 years for Cooper.
That has to be worth something!!!

In my opinion, I vote for a new GM to come in and CLEAN house. Top to bottom. Get us a decent coach. If they want to give Jackson another chance, that’s their business – I’m not for it. He looked like an idiot all season and i can think of a couple games that he lost singlehandedly – such as not taking the 3 points at the beginning of the Detroit game – instead going for it on our FIRST DRIVE, for crying out loud. Get us a professional!!! It’s obvious – for whatever reason – that the locker room is not behind him.
===============================================
I completely agree with this. I think this team would have more wins without him. All I hear from you guys is excuses. Injuries. Eff that. Look at Dungver, their top defensive player was injured they put in an absolute scrub at Q and they STILL took our playoff spot. He lost his GM. How many head coaches would LOVE to have no one in the way of their decisions?? I can answer that: ALL OF THEM. Jackson rode to both the Houston and Cleveland wins on emotion. Without that emotion those were losses in addition to some of the other games he cost us. Without an incredible amount of luck, Jackson could have easily turned an 8-8 team with positive momentum back into a 4-12 team again. Got to get rid of him.

Gruden was over rated.
Gannon was the leader and Coach.
Davis’ move to get all those daft picks and millions for a guy whose value was gone was genius yet wasted.
The problem with Grunden AND George Allens plan is that those old timers are OLD. Once you take your shot their shelf life is OVER and they need to be replaced by guys that are green.
You cannnot build a team like that anymore because those used up vets with a little gas still left don’t exist in todays NFL or at least not in qauantity to build a team around.

None of you Fire Hue Fools have yet stated why Gruden shouldn’t have been fired after his first two back to back years as an 8-8 Head Coach.

I can answer that. Because Gruden won 3 of his last five, and the team played hard for him in the end. They had respect for him. They had respect for Tom Cable. Peyton Manning made a couple of great plays otherwise Cable would have been 4-1 in his last five. It is the exact oppo with Jackson. The team gave up in week 12. That ain’t good.

Gruden had an All Pro offensive line. Wizniewski, Robbins, Kennedy
Gruden had Hall Of Famers playing defense. Romo, Woodson.
Gruden had Hall of Famers playing Wide receiver.
Brown, Rice.

Yeah, there were rumors that Jackson will hit up the club every now and then…and Raiders have been known to party (Woodson showed up at Clem Daniels End Zone back in the day, and Gruden had a DUI after the Charger win in 98) – they will party … it doesnt surprise me. Supposedly, DHB has a “macktacular” crib, and gets tha party started…Ford lives up there on occasion along with Louis Murphy. Say whatever u want about Hue’s last 5 games Det should have been a win , KC came to the wire but D gave them a chance in that game n against SD even if they had played average I think we would have won the game so we should have went into playoffs on a 3-0 run but D did total faceplant last 5 games

To Protect and Serve. Often to protect someone means to protect them from themselves, and to protect the property, not necessarily the people. Thats the EMT and Emergency services job. It could be a military junta without Posse Comitatus…are we headed there? Wouldnt go so far as to say that.

They were, genius. COINTELPRO had the Panthers infiltrated with provocateurs, and they were destroyed from within thanks to Merrill McCullough, Ron Karenga and other traitorous black people. It kept going in the 90s with Khalid Muhammed, but he too was eliminated, as was Tupac. The Panthers were a national organization, that included Fred Hampton. When Bobby Hutton was killed, actor, Marlon Brando came as one of the pallbearers and spoke. Hoover had surveillance, and they are justifying his illegal, and unconstitutional acts against the American people with the pathetic J.Edgar film (dir by Clint Eastwood, who should be ashamed to have even done a film)…guess Hitler’s biopic is next.

If there is a change, the new defensive coordinator would be told by Jackson that Huff now is a cornerback.

I don’t know, Kell. I think it’s a common myth that Huff can’t tackle. He gets burnt like toast when he’s asked to play corner more often than not
I would say that Huff should stay at centerfield, but with Matty G snagging 5 INT’s in a part-time role when we picked this guy up off the street makes we think Huff doesn’t belong there either. He might be just as overrated as Stan Routt ???
January 3rd, 2012 at 7:07 pm

I met Mark Davis at a Biletnikoff golf tourney party a few years back. No doubt he’s puffed the magic dragon a time or two. He’s not nearly as dynamic as his dad, in fact he’s really kind of laid back and kind of quiet.
