Report: McKenzie ‘contemplating’ whether to retain Jackson

ESPN’s Chris Mortensen said today that recently hired general manager Reggie McKenzie is contemplating whether to retain coach Hue Jackson.
McKenzie will be introduced by the Raiders on Tuesday, less than a week after he reached agreement to become the team’s general manager. It is uncertain whether Jackson will be part of the proceedings Tuesday.
From what I have been told from several people familiar with the situation, Jackson is expected back for a second season as the Raiders head coach, though McKenzie has not signed off on that as of yet.
Mortensen’s report cited unnamed league sources. Jackson and McKenzie have the same agent, Kennard McGuire. McKenzie and Jackson are scheduled to meet at some point, perhaps as soon as tonight or Tuesday morning, depending upon McKenzie’s arrival in the Bay Area.

What Ford gives us on the return game is a bonus…not why I would keep him. Besides Run-DMC Fords the most dangerous player we have. He runs the reverse the best and can make a short slant turn into a big play. And the plus is he has hands!! A 4.3 guy that can catch?!? Imagine him in NE as the new Welker.

We need to make him that here!

Cliff Avril, unrestricted free agent DE from Detroit is 6’3, 260 lbs. I wonder if he could line up @ rush LB in a 3-4 alignment. . .

Also remember Wolf’s eval of Reggie McKenzie’s skill set; he can tell who can play & who can’t. So let’s see what he can do in later rounds. . .

One thing about trading a WR in his second year going into his third; even though the NFL was bereft of a regular offseason this is where Jacoby Ford (along with Denarious Moore & DHB) will really make strides as a WR. BTW; expect a new WR coach as well. . .Sanjay is an Al guy. . .

The only move I would even contemplate would be to trade DMAC if the Raiders can get @ least a #1 & @ 2 (the one would based on performance). . .you only have to find one taker. . .

I am particularly concerned about the first two rounds of the draft, not having a first rounder this year is on hue

Who would you draft with that one pick.

  • Just Fire Baby

    #599

    Good food for thought.

Denver would probably have the biggest need for Pryor over any other team in the NFL.

” if you think McNabb is a better player today than Campbell you are out of your freakin mind. Campbell can start for 6-8 teams, and be a high quality backup for just about any team in the NFL. McNabb couldn’t get a job over Kellen Clemmons. McNabb is all done, Campbell WILL have a job next year, and the opportunity to compete for a starting gig somewhere.”

Never once did I say that McNabb was a better player nor was I comparing them. I did not say he was starting material either. I said that he did not even get a sniff from any of the 32 teams not even as a backup.

There is just not many places for JC to go except as a backup because the teams that need a QB the most will be drafting one in April and the way Andy Dalton and Newton played they will have high expectations for a rookie QB coming out of the next draft.

My prediction is that JC will remain as our backup thus giving Mystic1 another year to opine for him.

  • J Hill

We would be crazy to trade Pryor.

Soup has just never learned to “let it rip”.

He has the talent to do so, but not the testicular fortitude.

Good dude though and I will thank him for his services.

But they are no longer needed.

it could work. No controversy. Players will know there won’t be much a drop off from one to the other.

No matter what the future holds for jc, YOU CANT ERASE WHAT HE DID HERE!!!! If he never plays another down in the nfl he will be credited for making us winners, and turning around a dying franchise, with his 12-7 record. he will be credited for rock solid play, an undefeated division record, and snapping the streak of losing seasons. he also breaks the chain of poor qb play we have suffered through for the last 8 -9 years.

If trashing him makes you feel better fine, but HE OWNED YOU WHEN HE WAS HERE, AND NOTHING YOU TYPE HERE WILL EVER CHANGE THAT FACT

I don’t think my post made it up: a few minutes ago, KNBR, sports radio station of the Bay Area, reported that Hue will be in attendance at the Reggie introduction and that Hue will indeed be the head coach next year.

Wow. Get this ESPN has just announced that the RAiders have FIRED Hue Jackson, the exact opposite of what KNBR just reported.

In fact, I am listening to KNBR right now–first they said he was staying, now they say Adam Sheffter (sp?)says he’s fired.

  • Plunketthead

    FIRED!!

  • ElkGRaider

Would be really tough for us to keep JC. The first game Palmer has two picks people will start remembering the conservative JC. Would love to have him (because I know Palmers the only one that could win us a title) but would be tough politically…

  • Plunketthead

    Hue just got fired

  • Silverandblack666

Its so funny reading Mystic1 posts I almost feel sorry for the pathetic old man.

He wakes up everyday angry at Palmer and desperately wishing upon a star that JC can somehow be our starting QB again.

Go rub a lamp and hope a genie comes out….better yet go rub one out to your favorite picture of JC in the locker room.

really its getting old….its like the OJ trial 2 years later and we are sick of hearing about it over and over and over again!

We missed the playoffs both years with him, and he got benched for Bruce Gradkowski one season and IR’d a month and a half into the next.

These are facts that won’t go at the top of Soup’s resume.

The best thing he ever did for us was those pre-lockout camps out in BFE.

It’ll be interesting to see what happens with Carson Palmer, Al Saunders, and especially Darrius Heyward-Bey who had just seemed to find his stride in the Raiders offense. Hopefully that’s just a sign of Heyward-Bey getting better, not him learning the system.

Carson Palmer is a pro and can learn a new offense if he has to. He has a couple times before. But will he be more or less effective?

Retaining Al Saunders as OC and giving him playcalling duties might be the best case scenario. Unless, of course, the Raiders hire Joe Philbin.

  • J Hill

Lol at Schefter scoping all the locals again.

How does the localradio station mess that up?

  • RaiderRockstar

KNBR radio just reported that Hue will be in attendance at the presser today and that he will remain head coach

    ***

    Marv,

pretty much what I expect. the press conf wont reveal any “breaking news”.

Just that he’s greatful to be a part of this organization and that he’s determined to turn it around. He’ll talk about the Raiders of the past and the legacy left by Al Davis. He’ll talk about what it was like playing for the Raiders (4 years) after being drafted in RD10 outta Tennessee. He’ll say that the Raiders are in good hands with Mark Davis & Amy Trask. He might give props to John Madden and/or Ron Wolf. Talk about some of his previous experience from Green Bay upper management and how it prepared him for this gig.

    ============================

you guys under estimate jc’s competitive nature. I cant see him staying unless he thinks he will get a fair shot in open competition for starting. There is no way he wants to back up an inferior player like palmer.

He will ove on and it is the right thing to do. palmer didnt even have to earn it he was handed the keys in the middle of the night in a backdoor deal by hue jack, and i doubt that Jc is willing to let that go. Instead he will take his talent elsewhere and await the chance to punish the raiders head to head

  • BornInOakland

  • luvmarvhub

Would be very interested in knowing if the two of them sat down and talked at length or if the decision was made after Reggie talked to Trask, Madden, and others, or if, given carte blache when hired as GM, Reggie had already decided to go with his own guy.

But I’ll tell you what – for those of you who are disappointed? THIS IS WHY A GM WAS BROUGHT IN. If you wanted to keep Hue Jackson at all costs? Then we might as well have Al Davis back as the GM.
