I just think that Reggie is working at His job.

Find the best Man possible to lead the team (as a coach) into the future.

I’d have reservations about Reggie if he wasn’t interviewing others.

He said that he trusts his gut.

His gut on Moss, Capers and others from GB is probably digested.

Now He’s looking to find a better fit, and or confirm His already digested “gut facts”.

Yeah it was Mark’s decision. Hue was a personality much like Al Davis, he has charisma, fire, great potential and determination. Im sure some part of Mark feared that, so he got him out of there. Reggie was an assistant GM in GB, he should have had a comprehensive list of guys he would hire to run his team if ever given the job as the head GM. Not having that list says one of two things, he had no intention of taking a GM job in another organization any time soon, or he was ill prepared for such an opportunity. Let’s just hope that he is doing what his boss didn’t do and is not just going with his guy, but doing his due diligence with other coaches. That’s how the Steelers found Tomlin

    ***************************

Of course it was Mark’s decision. Reggie is just implementing it for him as part of his new job. There was going to be a management clash unless Hue was let go. Under Hue’s contract he reported directly to the owner and under the new corporate structure, that was going to be unworkable and no doubt a battle in the making. The easiest way to prevent a clash was to let Hue go.

Don’t get me wrong. I think Hue did a lot of good things for the Raiders. He also screwed some things up to. His biggest mistake was acting as the OC instead of he HC. He should ave been all over Bresnahan, especially after Al passed away. Before Al’s passing, I’m sure he had no power to do anything about the D but after the passing, that was a totally different story. Letting the team lose 4 out of the last 4 games was inexcusable. Bresnahan should have been demoted and someone else either hired or promoted. Better yet, Hue should have turned over the offense to Al Saunders, including the play calling. Then he could have run the defense to our advantage. Some of his personnel changes were questionable too. Although, I do think the Palmer deal was a good deal for us – especially for the next 4-5 years. If Hue had made the playoffs, I believe he’d still be the HC. It didn’t work out that way so what you see is what we got.

    Mark feared Hue? lol

    Owner Vs employee…Employee lose.

Hue was of no threat to Mark Davis.

What… was Hue gonna enact a coup.

Reggie said he had a short list.

That means to me, guys he would want to talk to for sure. Nothing more or less.

He could expand said list as He sees fit.

Reggie will hire the Guy he thinks will best represent the Goal and results of Winning.

it was much too late to suddenly switch the defense to another system and Hue isn’t qualified to run a defense. Bottom line is that the wording in his contract could have been reworked, if given the ultimatum im sure he would have obliged. Hue deserved a chance to be able to hire his own staff and have input as it reegards to player personnel working in tandem with the new GM

I was in camp in favor of bringing back Hue as HC and letting him hire his own staff. But, that was not to be. I wasn’t suggesting he try to change the D mid-stream but I do believe if he had been available to closely stand over the DC and players during the game (motivating and a$$ kicking as appropriate) instead of play calling, we would have won a couple more games. Bottom line, he left the D in Bresnahan’s hands and in my book, that was negligence on Hue’s part.

  42. J Hill Says:

And if Moss’ old team calls, he’ll listen.

The Green Bay Packers assistant head coach says he has not been contacted about the Raiders’ head coaching vacancy as of Monday afternoon but would welcome the chance to talk to them.

“If the Raiders were to call and ask, I’ll be ready to speak with them,” said Moss, who also coaches the Packers’ inside linebackers. “But nothing’s changed from last week. I feel good where I’m at. If there’s an opportunity that comes up in the future, we’ll probably cross that bridge at that time. But at this present time, right now, not a lot to talk about.”

Mark was intimidated by Hue because he was a smarter football guy than him as a head coach and he wasn’t gonna have the same respect for Mark as he did Al, evidenced by his post game presser. Hue wasn’t afraid to clash with Mark and Mark comes off as a very weak guy that can be intimidated and or coerced in to doing things he doesn’t want to do by someone with a stronger. personality, see Ron Wolf “suggesting” Reggie McKenzie and him subsequently beinghired. Jerry said on several occasions that Mark. lacked the grit to run the org like his father did, everyone says he is more like Carole than Al, and Silver pointed out how Al belittled him. Having Hue, a guy much like Al, continuing to be the head coach of the team im sure was uncomfortable for him

  45. Albert Says:

F*ck Lebron and Wade, Mark Davis and Reggie McKenzie are the new Batman & Robin!

  46. ghostraiders Says:

I always said to myself. . Why is ron wolf pushing so hard for McKenzie to be hired as GM. . Does he owe Reggie something?? .. Wolf has nothing to lose…he’s retired. Why didn’t Mark Davis interview anyone else for the job?? Who does that?? McKenzie might turn out to be a great GM but lets face it.. .. he’s an unknown. . It would have been nice for davis to interview atleast two others before pulling the trigger with McKenzie. . Who knows?? Maybe he could have found someone more qualified for the job… I guess well wait n see.. but if we stink it up again.. and actually regress next season.. people will lose faith on chubby really fast.

Solid post. Nice job, JB. Hue’s job performance is debatable; some feel he did the best he could with what he had, others saw a guy in way over his head. That said, I think your assesment of the situation in your first paragraph is the overriding reason that Hue isn’t here any more.

Don, if you’re still here…seriously, what’s wrong with food stamps? Is someone a bad person because they’re on welfare?

  69. JB Says:

A LB coach with NO coordinator experience either. Given everything, Madden did a great job but those were different days with different situations and problems. There was no free agency in those days so once your team became dominant, it only got better each year. Players didn’t make anywhere the amount of $’s back then so keeping their job was really important for their financial future. Al Davis was ahead of the curve on strategies back then. He was help to the coach rather than a detriment as some think he was in later years. there were also a lot less rules to break back then – less penalties because it was all legal. I guess you really had to be there back then and seen it to really appreciate how different the game is nowadays.

  83. Violent Hands Says:

I think whatever I’ve taken from the past with the Raiders, and Al Davis not being there any more, you’ve got to say going forward that it’s going to be different,” Moss said. “it’s going to be different from the standpoint of, Reggie wants to go in a new direction, so I’ll sit down and speak with Reggie to get his vision, what direction he wants the organization to go in. That’s going to play a lot in to it.”

Moss aspires to be a head coach, and has spent time thinking about how he’d approach the job.

“There’s always opportunities to put yourself in the same position as a head coach would and see how you would do things or what you would change or what you would add or what you would take away,” Moss said. “So with that being said, I’ve done that, I feel good about the vision, the goals, the beliefs that can be instilled within an organization that would give me the opportunity to be a head coach.”

I’m more impressed with giants DC than a linebacker coach from greenbay. .. what’s the deal?? .. I’m hoping that Reggie has thought twice about Moss and has changed his mind…. defense giving up 37 points in your lone playoff game does not bode well… if we don’t get our head coach by next week I think it will be because Reggie will be waiting to interview coaches from the NY giants.. .. I suspect he will have to wait until after the superbowl because I see the giants mopping the floor with San Fran. .

  87. M Lonetree Says:

    Ghost,

if the NYG DC didn’t have Tuck and Uemeyiora etc to execute the plan would you be as respectful?

  88. Sullivan44 Says:

GhostRaider I don’t expect you to know anything beyond what Al Davis has programmed you to believe the past 20 years, but Green Bay is an offensive team. They don’t have the defensive players like Pittsburgh and Baltimore. Blaming GB’s defensive coaches for their poor defensive play is typical of the Al Davis mind set, like blaming Hue Jackson for the lack of success with Al’s marshmallow players.

Most teams interview maybe 2-4 guys at most.

McKenzie has already interviewed Bowels and Carmichael.

He has sought permission to interview 2 of Denver’s coaches, as well as being tied to 3 or 4 Packers coaches.

I don’t give a sh!t if interviews 100 guys. I was just laughing because he said he had a SHORT list.

I dont get the Winston Moss talk. How do you go from coaching inside LBs to Head Coach? Why not the guy coaching Tight Ends or the Cornerbacks? To be a decent HC candidate you gotta be a Coordinator, something Moss has never been.

Please stop with the Winston Moss nonsense, Al Davis interviewed him to comply with the minority rule.

    ====================================================

I believe Al Davis interviewed him for the DC job.

Wasn’t Mike Tomlin the Vikings DB coach? Im actually not sold on anyone from GB but I would rather have Moss than Capers. So if he stuck on bringing someone from greenbay, Moss has my vote.

Why does it matter if he wasn’t ever a coordinator anyway? Im pretty sure if he is hired he will bring in a DC to run the defense and call plays. It will be pretty much like what Tomlin does in Pittsburg.

  124. Sullivan44 Says:

OK, a guy who calls himself “lowdown”, gives possibly the most epic fruedian slip on the history of this blog, talking about “sticking” to his lowdown standards (yuk), keeps making gay jokes. Ok.

  125. Lowdown_in_Beijing Says:

For what it is worth, the last time the Raiders had a formidable linebacking corps, W. Moss was part of it.

  126. Sullivan44 Says:

Lowdown, how many times have you gone down low to practice your sticky standards today?

  127. Sullivan44 Says:

Those were the good old days, weren’t they, Lodown? When Moss was here? Raiders playing good football. You hadn’t been outed yet. The glory days.

  128. MiamiRaider78 Says:

Why are some people suggesting trading DHB? That makes sense; trade our most productive receiver this season who has improved each year he has been here, for a draft pick and unproven player. At one point, Hue decreased his playing time, which more than likely prevented him from reaching 1,000 yds.

    DUMB.

  129. Sullivan44 Says:

We need a possession receiver. DHB isn’t it. Nobody on our roster is it. If we have to trade one of Al’s track stars, that’s good for catching about 50% of balls thrown their way, so be it.

  130. JB Says:

My hopes are that Al Saunders & our current offense survives. In addition, I think the following coaches are worth keeping:
    • Bob Wylie – OL
    • Steve Wiznewski – OL
    • Kelly Skipper – RB
    • Mike Waufle – DL
    • Rod Woodson – DB

Can’t really comment on the others.

  131. wasbanned Says:

Looks like Hue will be interviewing for Rams OC job under Fisher.

  132. Lowdown_in_Beijing Says:

    MiamiRaider,

Because on a 53 man team, we have maybe 20 NFL quality players and DHB possesses two important assets: He has both trade value and is expendable.

  133. MiamiRaider78 Says:

We need a possession receiver…so we draft or sign one? Letting go of DHB, what from all accounts says he works hard at perfecting his craft, is dumb. Maybe someone other than Sanjay Lal will teach him how to better track the ball when it’s thrown his way. I think it’s more than 50%, c’mon Sully. lol

  134. MiamiRaider78 Says:

I hope they don’t give up on DHB. We’ll see.

    Exclusive to Corky:

Okay Cork one word of advice: I am not sure you read the comments after you post each new article, but, since the season went down in flames on the SD debacle (notwithstanding your opposite prediction as to the outcome of same game), and the Hue the Pimpin Magnificent was fired, the rabble is getting extremely restless outside the walls of the citadel. Some, in fact, are fomenting rebellion and calling for “Corky’s head.”

Maybe you and Jerry Mac should open the grainery and slake the hunger of the misfits. My suggestion is to get off the neutral journalist fence for one Tuesday chat and tell your fans how you really feel. Under a different screen name I tried for the last 8 weeks of the season, to goad you into expressing your true feeling about the Pimpin Magnificent, Hue.

Unfortunately you wouldn’t do it then, but have done it now. It is the same thing the Pimpin Magnificent did to the fans and the Nation, especially the last half of the season. Finally, said fans and Nation recognize what a pimpin, whorin, self-serving, lying jackazz the Pimpin Magnificent was. The rabble is easily fooled – for awhile. Say what you think and feel – break through to the other side. Don’t act like Hue and the rabble – fans and Nation, all of us – will embrace you.

C’mon now, I know you have it in you, get off the fence and tell it like it is.
