Tice interview set for Tuesday; McCoy a finalist in Miami

Share

Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy is supposed to interview for the Raiders head coaching vacancy in Denver today with Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie. If so, it might not mean much.
McCoy reportedly is one of three finalists for the Miami Dolphins coaching vacancy. One of the others is Dolphins interim coach Todd Bowles, who interviewed with McKenzie at the start of this process.
In other news, Bears offensive coordinator Mike Tice is scheduled to interview with McKenzie on Tuesday about the vacancy created by the firing of Hue Jackson on Jan. 10.
As for the Raiders assistant coaches, those under contract now are free to seek employment elsewhere, given the Raiders didn’t notify them Tuesday if they are going to be kept around.
League rules specify that coaches under contract are to be notified by the third Tuesday after the regular season ends if they aren’t going to be kept around or might be terminated.
McKenzie said that he will let the head coach make the determination on which coaches are asked back. Given the Raiders don’t have a head coach, no decision has been made.
No word yet on whether McKenzie has set up an interview with Green Bay Packers assistant head coach/linebackers coach Winston Moss.
Moss is thought to be a favorite for the job, based upon his strong relationship with McKenzie, as well as the fact that McKenzie has told people in the past that he intended to hire Moss as his head coach if he ever got in a position to make such a call.

Weird how a week ago a lot of people in here were excited about the prospect of Winston Moss, now he’s being ripped. That tells me he’s out.

Sully: who is Moss and what has he done, anything novel? I know he play for the Raiders, pulled a gun on a waitress in a nightclub while playing in FL. for the Bucs and is now a sub-coach with GB.

while we don’t have a 1st, 2nd, 4th, or 7th round pick, we DO have

Aaron Curry, Taiwan Jones, Joseph Barksdale, Carson Palmer, and Terrell Pryor.

It’s not like those picks just disappeared into nothing.

And we’ll get the highest comp. pick (end of 3rd round) for Nnamdi.

From what I understood from the presser, is that the cub-boards are bare in Oakland. The organization has been operating on a shoestring.
    —————————–
I must have missed that part.

I’m not aware of any NFL franchise that has been in the red.

The cupboards are filled every year with TV revenue.

  • I thought Miami is having Bowles back for a 2nd, too?

  • I think Reggie also went down there to interview Allen also.

  • alex7

    Duck

they JUST interviewed Philbin again today.
Still have Bowles scheduled for this week as well.

Trask was largely responsible for beefing up security at the Coli and making games there as hospitable as possible. She is also responsible for taking over season ticket sales from the county coloseum commission fiasco. A huge improvement but you probably wouldn’t know anything about that…
Responsible for the some terrific public relations coups and helping realize the Al’s vision of a global Raider Nation. Think Filipino day, Mexican Heritage Day, etc. Also had a hand in Raider retail success, web site, overseeing outstanding local charity work with kids and building parks in the easy bay.

Get bowels er bowles back now or Carmichael. Tice? Rice?!? WTF?!?
    No fing rice or moss.

Could be mark is low on cash and after
The interview they line someone else up just to try and see the earlier candidates reaction.

Problem is no coach really wants to come into this place with so many unknowns. Least with Al they knew the deal…. And every coach had an automatic out after things went south, “yep it was all Al’s fault.”

    =======================================

If they’re having Bowles back for a second, it’s to ask if he’d stay on as DC or somesuch.

As for McCoy, I can imagine him telling Reggie flat-out “Thanks for coming out here, but I just took the Miami job. Please don’t say anything publicly until we announce it.”

Reggie’s a smart guy and knows how it works. He won’t say anything.

it’s late, but let me chime in none the less.

i have a suspicion that mark wanted hue gone during the gm hiring process. once mckenzie accepted the offer and came onboard, mark decided that he would have mckenzie fire hue under his watch as gm so as to show that mckenzie was in charge. mckenzie, being the new gm and wanting to appease mark, fired hue as he mentioned in the press conference (putting his name on it as the gm now in charge).

fast forward to today — now that the coaching search is underway, mckenzie is finding that getting someone better than hue is turning out to be more of a tougher task than he originally had anticipated. somehow, his short list (as he mentioned in the press conference) morphed into this massive (just get someone better than hue to save face) list. so, now he’s scrambling to get someone onboard, while playing it cool and portraying that he’s under control.

how does one get to thinking like this? 1. paranoia (if you’ve been a raider fan for any length of time, then this comes with the territory) 2. look at list of interview candidates mentioned thus far. you know the list…

i have a very hard time believing that these candidates would have been high on any gm’s must have list; even for a new gm. then add the possibility that mark may not want to spend competitive money on a real hc and now you have mckenzie in an even tougher spot.
on the surface, it looks as though keeping hue and letting him pick his staff would have been the prudent move for mckenzie in his first year, but only time will tell.

my suspicion may be way way off; i certainly hope so. i hope mckenzie knows exactly what he’s doing and really has that top candidates list he claimed in the press conference and that he’s just being diligent, asking lots of questions during these interviews, and getting information to finally make a big splash soon. let’s hope.

worse thing about Reggie interviewing so many candidates is now they all know how dumb he sounds

Raider merchandise sales have PLUMMTTED in the last 7 years, so not sure how much credit she gets for marketing/sales.

if she took over ticket sales just in the last year or two, then yes, that’s a HUGE successful difference.

This morning they did. Then in the afternoon, McCoy gets cold feet towards us. Translation: Philbin’s not the guy, and they called McCoy and said “If the owner likes you and we can agree on a contract, you’re in.” Hence the flight to NY to speak with the owner directly.

    good post Vshape.

That said, I can’t imagine what quality information you get from a guy like Tice. Not exactly someone who faced us often and has lots of info about our roster or divisional foes.

Seems weird, and yes, simply getting a new DC is becoming more and more obvious now.

Of course, as soon as we hire someone, optimism will rebound and reasons will be made why it’s the right hire, regardless of who it is.

Lloyd Christmas and Mckenzo should just apologize to Hue and sign him again, or just hire Saunders as HC

Merchandise sales, in general, is tied to Wins. So no surprise there.

Yes she was responsible for the implementation of the Raiders organization selling tickets as opposed to the government of Alameda and City of Oakland.

19 losing seasons out of the past 29 seasons, since the Raiders last Superbowl victory in 1983 have left the club bereft of ample funds.

Remember Davis’ have a controlling share of the Raiders of less than 60%. Never, ever think AL or now Mark and Mrs. Davis are “owners” of the Raiders. Raiders are a partnership: a business entity in and of itself.

AL had to divest part of his ownership interest several years ago to outside investors to raise cash. The investors are now partners with an ownership interest in the club roughly based upon the parameters set forth in the partnership agreement roughly equal to their investment.

If the Davis family as majority owners overstep their authority the minority partners should commence a legal action for oppression. Current law is that majority owners must work for the good of all partners, minority included.

Unfortunately AL, once his dementia set in during the past 10 seasons, completely breached his duties toward the club and made it the laughstock of the league. However, even while mentally incompetent for the most part, AL was great at winning lawsuits and bamboozled and beat down the minority owners threats of an oppression action against him.

Now, the Raiders are financially questionable, and Mark is already talking about special financial concessions stadium builders and the people of yet unnamed municipalities are to give the Davis family for the privilege of hosting the Raiders at a new facility. Come back to reality Mark. You must again produce dynasty to hold such leverage. Your Daddy screwed that one up and it’s up to you to bring it back.

Anyway, thank God AL is dead, and that a resurrgence of life may be churning in the club.

It’s true that the Raiders are second to last in value: 31st out of 32 NFL teams.

Stink AL holds the blame for that one. I feel that the minority partners should sue and expell the Davis family from the partnership, or at least wrestle control by the Davis’ by injunction.

Thank God Al is dead? What gives you the right to disrespect a deceased man? It’s unfortunate that some of the bloggers in here go around “wishing people/players were dead”, insulting individuals for their opinions etc. ALL OF YOU BECAME RAIDER FANS WHILE AL WAS STILL THE OWNER AND GM!!! After all the years of losing, you could have easily jumped ship and became a fan of one of the other 31 teams. I was upset about what Al did with this team for awhile but to go and wish someone was dead…that’s foul.

ALSO, stop that racism rhetoric in here. Isn’t there a chatroom on AOL that you guys can go on to exchange your hate? Grow the fck up!
