Raiders call report ‘untrue’ about McKenzie hire — UPDATED
By Steve Corkran
Friday, January 20th, 2012 at 1:49 pm in Oakland Raiders.
Raiders new general manager Reggie McKenzie is busy scouring the countryside for a head coach to take the place of the fired Hue Jackson. The Raiders issued a statement saying it is “untrue” that McKenzie hired Sean Jones as his assistant general manager.
PackerReport.com said earlier today that McKenzie hired Jones. The Raiders wasted little time debunking the report.
Jones, 49, played for the Raiders from 1984-87. He finished his career with a three-year stint with the Green Bay Packers. Coincidentally, those were McKenzie’s first three years with the Packers in their front office.
Jones has worked in the Raiders front office in the past.

SEAN JONES IS A GOOD HIRE..
January 20th, 2012 at 1:52 pm
Exla,
Are you as disgusted with the Lakers as I am? Almost unwatchable. We need Dwight Howard just to change over to the next era. Forget Kobe and what he thinks, his time is done.
Unfortunately, it feels like to me that if Bynum has a good game tonight Jim “Dr. unqualified” Buss will say hey, see my Bynum is better than Dwight, and if Dwight dominates, then the Magic will say, boy, we can’t make this trade.
I am going into a Laker depression!

According to Wikipedia:
2003
In December 2003, arbitrator Roger Kaplan ruled that Jones violated National Football League Players Association regulations in his financial dealings with NFL player Ebenezer Ekuban. Jones received a two-year suspension, prohibiting him from representing NFL players until February 26, 2005. Jones later sued Ekuban and his attorney for slander and libel leading to Ekuban declaring bankruptcy in 2003. Former player Cris Dishman won a $396,000 judgment against Jones involving a bad investment. Jones later counter sued Cris Dishman and his former wife Karen Dishman, the previous matter was declared settled and Jones received a money judgment against both Cris and Karen Dishman in 2006 for their part in illegally trying to extort more money from Jones.
[edit] 2007
On June 14, 2007, he was arrested by the FBI on charges of mortgage fraud in a 42 million dollar scheme to rip off three Houston area banks. Bond is set at $100,000. Trial date was set for August 6, 2007.[1]
[edit] 2008
On May, 2008 charges were dismissed by the Government.

Never should have let Sean Jones go Al!
What were you thinking?

Oakland has a plain to build New Stadiums for the A’s, Warriors & RAIDERS next to the current 1. The plan is called Coliseum City. When I was born in the70s Oakland might have been the sports capital of the nation, winning 3 World Series, a Super Bowl, and NBA championship, & had a Hockey Team & Roller Derby, by 2017 Oakland could have no sports teams. The plan also calls for a convention center and Mall next to the Stadiums. It will be cheaper to build the stadiums here because the city already owns the land the infrastructure is already in place , & since it will be built on already developed land a lot of the environmental impact staff won’t have to be done. A new parking lot won’t be necessary because they will use the current Coliseum Parking lot. It will be much cheaper to build it here than anywhere else in the state, but it will still take money from the county, private investors as well as the teams and fans in the form of PSLs to make this happen. Check out the plan

The Sports Xchange
The Sports Xchange has learned that the Raiders are close to adding former NFL defensive end Sean Jones as assistant general manager to new GM Reggie McKenzie.
In recent months, Jones lobbied hard behind the scenes for either the GM job or a position of influence within the reshaped front office.
Jones played 13 seasons, including four for the Raiders (1984-87) when they were in Los Angeles, had previously worked in the club’s front office, and at one time had been a financial consultant to several league players.
Jones was charged in 2003 with violating NFLPA rules for agents/financial consultants, in cases brought by Ebenezer Ekuban and Cris Dishman. The latter subsequently won a judgment against Jones. In ‘07, Jones was arrested by the FBI and charged with mortgage fraud, but those charges eventually were dropped.
Some of his background dealings aside, Jones is considered a very good judge of talent. But there are some people who have counseled new Raiders owner Mark Davis since the death of his father, Al Davis, who were not enamored of Jones and who weren’t exactly in favor of his hiring.

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/sports_blog/2012/01/should-mark-davis-move-the-oakland-raiders-back-to-la-poll.html
Mark Davis said #1 that “we are trying to build a stadium here” meaning Oakland. Then he said” if we can’t build a Stadium in Oakland, we’ve been researching other sites in Northern California and talking with people in Southern California. If we can’t get a stadium build in Oakland than LA is a possibility, anywhere is a possibility.” LA times is doing a poll to see how many people want the Raiders in L.A. The good news for REAL Oakland Raiders fans is that the people developing the New LA stadium want some control & ownership of the Team they bring in & the Davis family will never give up any control of the Raiders. But Real OAKLAND Raider Fans must stop this LA momentum. Vote No to bringing the Raiders to LA.

Sounds like Jones got out of all those issues with clean hands.
Maybe he can sign players to contracts that will end up giving money back to the Raiders lol.

The federal government has quietly dismissed charges against a Friendswood attorney-turned-developer, a former NFL player and three other men accused last year of defrauding three Houston banks in a multimillion dollar mortgage scheme.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Houston sought the dismissal, which was granted Monday, of a 12-count indictment against Friendswood attorney and island loft developer Jerome Karam; former NFL defensive lineman Sean Jones; former loan officers Tommy Jay Trammel and David Ranostaj; and Houston real estate appraiser Jay Westrick.
Federal officials, who issued a news release when the indictments were handed up, would not say Friday why the charges were dismissed. The court’s order was sealed from public view.
Attorneys representing each of the men either did not return phone calls Friday or said they were prevented from discussing the case.
On June 14 last year, Karam, 45, pleaded not guilty at an arraignment before a U.S. magistrate in Houston to bank-fraud charges alleging he and the other four men perpetrated a mortgage-fraud scheme from 1999 to 2001 to acquire more than $42 million in loans from three different banks based on false appraisals.
According to the indictment, the scheme was the same at each bank — “collusion between the seller, buyer/borrower and lender to lend more money than the property was worth, and thereby reap personal profit. Most properties were appraised by the same appraiser and all closed at the same title company.”

Let’s hope that Jones will channel his predilection toward finnagling toward transition to dynasty, since he seems to have beat the federal by a hair’s width. He was, however, hired by the raiders during Art Shell’s most recent HC stint and was fired because the Raiders had a 2-14 record, according to Raider attorney Mark Barrens.

Dakota, once I found out that Jerry Buss had given control to his nimwit son Jim Buss, and reduced Jeanne Buss’s role and that of KupChuck, I knew the Laker’s would deteriorate. Getting rid of all things Phil Jackson including the triangle would weaken the team. The hiring of Mike Brown was another dumb move. If/when OaklandLive/Coliseum City gets built, there’ll be a new Santa Clara stadium, maybe 1-2 new LA stadiums, a new Vikings stadium, so imagine the fight for winning the bid to host the Super Bowl. It could mean a long time before Oakland sees it, or, a typical biased situation where the NFL awards it to Santa Clara over the Coliseum City.

January 20th, 2012 at 2:29 pm
Regarding the Lakers apparent deterioration:
They are in transition. Kobe is over the hill. The trading of LaMarr Odom as an illusory condition that may or may not have put the Raiders in the game for acquiring Howard, was assinine, except that LaMarr is way past his prime and not much good anymore.
Lakers do have Andrew, who is dominant if he can stay healthy, which is very questionable.
Bottom line is Lakers need to totally rebuild and acquire two young dynasty players with the potential of Kobe, as he was at 18 yrs of age.

I have tired on several occasions to treat Brownstains with respect or as a peer but when I do he responds even worse then when he is ripped on.
Back to the HC search……
January 20th, 2012 at 2:57 pm
Some possible scenarios:
HC – Todd Bowles, Winston Moss
DC – Bill Sheridan, Dean Pees, Mike Trgovac, Jack Del Rio
OC – Al Saunders, Todd Haley, Tom Clements
Trade Darren McFadden for a 2nd and 4th
Trade Tommy Kelly for a 3rd
Trade Richard Seymour for a 3rd and 5th
Trade Rolando McClain for a 4th
This will give the Raiders considerable salary cap relief (if I’m not mistaken, it would clear about $30 million from the books for 2012).
The Raiders should also restructure the contracts of Michael Huff, Kamerion Wimbley, Stanford Routt, Kevin Boss, and Carson Palmer if they haven’t already.
Next, they should try to re-sign SS Tyvon Branch, FB Marcel Reece, OL Stephon Heyer, DL Desmond Bryant, LS Jon Condo, and make a competitive offer to RB Michael Bush. Try to retain C Samson Satele and FS Matt Giordano for depth.
2 – DT/NT Dontari Poe, DE/OLB Vinny Curry, RB Chris Polk, or DT Fletcher Cox
3 – RB Doug Martin, DT/NT Alameda Ta’amu, or RB Cyrus Gray
3 – LB Danny Trevathan, LB Keenan Robinson, or CB Leonard Johnson
3 (compensatory) – OL Jeff Allen, LB Nigel Bradham, or OL Levy Adcock
4 – DE Julian Miller, DE Jake Bequette or OL Lucas Nix
4 – DT/NT Dom Hamilton, S George Iloka, or WR DeVier Posey
4 (compensatory) – OL Matt Ryan, OL Alex Hurst, or RB Bernard Pierce
5 – WR Lavasier Tuinei, WR Greg Childs, or DT Tydreke Powell
5 – S Harrison Smith, S Blake Gideon, DT Marcus Forston, or LB Chris Galippo
6 – RB Tauren Poole. RB Daniel Herron, RB Bobby Rainey, or RB Terrance Ganaway
FA targets:
DL – DE Mario Williams, DT/NT Paul Soliai, or DE Cliff Avril
DB – CB Brandon Carr, FS Dashon Goldson, CB Richard Marshall, or CB Tracy Porter
LB – MLB Dan Connor or MLB Barrett Ruud
QB- QB Josh Johnson or QB Shaun Hill
If Bush leaves, sign RB Mike Tolbert or RB BenJarvus Green-Ellis
Players who might not return: WR T.J. Houshmanzadeh, QB Kyle Boller, OT Khalif Barnes, LB Darryl Blackstock, LB Aaron Curry, LB Ricky Brown, LB Quentin Groves, DE Trevor Scott, DT John Henderson, S Jerome Boyd, S Hiram Eugene, CB Bryan McCann, CB Lito Sheppard, and CB Chris Johnson.

The Raiders could easily get that in compensation for Kelly and Seymour.
The Raiders should TRY to get that for McFadden and McClain, but if they can’t their contracts should simply be restructured.

Dakota. … what do you think about Kobe??? The Guy is probably the second best player of all time… but he’s also a $hithead… the Guy is a major jerk… I’m glad he’s a Laker but he will never be my favorite Laker. Magic Johnson still my favorite laker of all time… I’m sure Kobe doesn’t give an F what anyone thinks of him… but I could see that Guy ending up like o.j. Simpson .. No doubt McKenzie is doing due diligence in the HC search before interviewing his intended Moss. The wait is good this time around, as it means he’s got candidates in mind with the remaining playoff teams.
The only constructive criticism I have regarding McKenzie’s “my guy” approach is creating a network of friends inside Raiders org, like nepotism, that ends up resulting in a break-down of accountability down the chain of command. Having “work only” relationships probably more conducive to that.

Hey, I can’t fault that line of thinking. Of course I like Kobe for what he did for the Lakers. He also brought along a ton of grief. Very entertaining player. Burning desire to win. But very difficult to love.
Magic, Worthy, Scott, Coop, & the Captain and crew will always get the nod from me when comparing the Lakers of the 80s to both sets of Kobe’s title teams.
Magic will always be #1 in my eyes.

Basically said that he thought that Marc Davis should have been more thorough in his search for a GM and he trusted well versed guys who possibly have been away from that part of the game for many years who might not have fully up to date info.
He thought that McKenzie is a hire which looks good on paper and hopes it turns into something. Also thinks that firing Jackson was a bad idea…because he asks if the coaches we bring in are going to be better than him.
Mainly that’s it and then went into other football stuff.

I think he is in GB. In an effort to save some $$, McKenzie an Winston Moss are splitting the cost of a U-haul. They are just about done loading, and will be heading west at dawn tomorrow.

Madden and Wolf endorsed Mac.
Madden has obviously been out of the game for a while, and likely had very little contact with Mac while in his announcing days.
And Wolf has been out of the GB org since 2001. Not sure how current either is as far as knowing Mac.
Evualuating talent, and turning over your opinion to someone else isn’t the same as being in charge of the whole deal.
Coincidence? Wolf’s son is likely to be promoted into Mac’s old job in GB.

No, he shouldn’t have raped a broad in Colorado, which was the beginning of the end of his marriage (along with the additional side pieces he had along the way).
Vanessa could’ve bounced then, but she stayed in it – and EARNED all if not half. She never pulled Khloe Kardasshian b.s. nor attention seeking like several other NBA wives, and kept it legit looking.
