Cfrylopez= best poster on the blog….no to LA…….not Raiders home or true place….only Oakland is. You lose real raider experience moving to LA….just like in movies…is the sequel ever better than the original? NEVER!…quite obvious we got some on this blog who don’t care about Raiders just care only about their over inflated ego city getting a team that they’ll never support…..get ready for your Chargers LA….get your own identity and stop stealing ours…..thanks in advance

    *****************************
I have no stake in LA or Oakland, but it always seems like bay area fans get really insecure when talking about The Raiders moving to LA. Always seem to attack the people of LA, as if they actually are the ones moving the team. Lol.

Al Davis only cared about two things: Winning and Money. He’s from Brooklyn and worked for USC. Just two examples that he really had no sentimental ties to Oakland. He made the Raider Nation what it is, not Oakland.

Im with Mark Davis. The Raiders are one of the classic NFL franchises. They need a real stadium whether its in Oakland in 2025 or LA in a couple of years.

  • alex7

Umm, the report says 28TH IN INTERCEPTIONS.

So sacks trump points and yards.

    Got it.

if you’re doing more on D with lower-salaried athletes, doesn’t most of the credit go to the coaching?

I would think a real D coach would find plenty of talent here. You saw how the 49ers didn’t miss a beat when Patrick Willis was out.

    Scheme, scheme, scheme.

Dennis Allen = 24th in points allowed.
    Chuck B. = 30th

    wow, such progress.
    ——-
They gave up a lot of points in those games against the Lions and Patriots were Tebow was awful. Denver had the worst defense in the league the year before Allen became DC. They were greatly improved without having much talent.

Everyone talks a good game. Is that stadium in LA built? I didn’t think so. You know, if I had a brand new, state of the art 65,000 seat stadium sitting in my backyard I’ll bet I could get a team to move in. I just don’t have one. Neither does LA.

Does anyone look at the Giants, Patriots, 49ers, or Ravens D and think:

“wow, what a FAST defense!” ??

Just coached properly, and can tackle. Speed on D = overrated. You rarely run in a straight line very far.

  • M Lonetree

Reggie McKenzie is kicking back at the Senior Bowl, sipping some fine Scotch, waiting to see which HC wannabe is going to buy him a sumptuous dinner.
Other than that he can just laugh at all the buffoonish speculation about who he is going to hire.

  • FormerlyGoodOle00

Gruden was a good coach. But the guy is only good with a loaded roster. No track record of developing talent.

    ………..

Same could be said of Al Davis. Look at Davis without Ron Wolf. The only time he succeeded was when Gruden was here.

Disagree to a point A. You need both coaching, and players…

We do not have the personel to run what you want to run.

9ers have the best hardest hitting D in the NFL. Thats not all coaching, however they do have the swagger of the coach so it does count for something however, you need both…

  • alex7

    Albert

they gave up 20+ points to nearly EVERYONE! Chargers, Raiders, Patriots, Lions, Bengals, Vikings, and the Bills put up 20+ in 3 quarters before the Tebow INT TDs.

Why do we make excuses for outsiders, then do the fake “No Excuses!” with our own?

  • http://www.raiderettes.com Sullivan44

McKenzie’s out, imo. He’s there as a scapegoat. I’m firmly convinced this is not McKenzie’s coach search.

To a certain extent that was true. Although Al Davis did a good job developing defensive backs. I think that was his true interest.

Couldn’t get a QB developed…and that really hurt the franchise.

look at the Ravens roster turnover on D.

They have different corners, strong safeties, OLBers every two years, yet the same results.

What happened to STUD PLAYER Adalius Thomas when he left the Ravens for the Patriots? Suuuuuuuucked.

You’re right that players help. I’d say it’s about 70/30 scheme/coaching to players right now.

    Agreed those defenses CONVERGE QUICKLY.

Why? They’re in the RIGHT PLACE, close by, zoned properly, in position to make plays.

They’re not sprinting 20 yards to get there. Maybe 5.

I’m not interested in this SB at all. Don’t even care who wins. I was only interested as long as SF was in it, I wanted them to go to the SB, then lose, so their 5-0 SB record would be ruined. Now I don’t care. Football’s over. Watching the Raiders and this ridiculous sham of a HC search.

It’s kind of hard to be a really good defense when your offense leads the league in fumbles and your passing offense is in the bottom of the league. That’s what Dennis Allen was dealing with. But he did give up a 40 spot a lot more than I would want to see.

  • 303Raider

You need a Hall of Fame type QB to win theSB.

Only twice since 1993, has a team with a questionable QB won it all, Ravens in 2001 and Bucs in 2003.

Get a hall of fame QB, at all costs.

  • alex7

    Duck

    from 32nd to 24th isn’t a dozen.

Come on. 8 spots while playing the lowly Chiefs twice, the Titans, and injured VIkings and Bears.

Again, why do we make excuses for those outside, but not inside?

  • SnB offense defense specialteams

    Alex,

Those Raiders on the roster need to either restructure or be broomed out.

Let’s say that a new coach inproves their play…those guys aren’t superstars if Vince Lombardi comes back.

I don’t see the ceiling for Wimbley being Peppers or Ware….or Huff approaching Paloumalu or Reed….or TK making a differnence like Ngata or Seymour matching Wilfork in his old age.

And Routt is just ok…certainly not top 5

Those contracts are a millstone on this team and will have to be adjusted….those guys are among the top 3 to 5 paid for their position.

Either they restructure or they have to go…..take the cap hit and get on with fixing the team for real.

The bandaiding ain’t going to work.

Gotta clean house and get cap room!

And every coach wants speed on defense. One of the lst things you want to do is build pride in your defense. That, might be tough after last year.

  • Twocents

    Why McKenzie will succeed:
He will pick the best candidate for HC.
He will aid the HC in picking the best coordinators.
He will establish a scouting system that will provide the organization with top-notch evaluations on free agents, draft picks and undrafted prospects.
He will have an advanced scouting team that will dissect our upcoming opponents and their tendencies.
In short, he will be the best GM in the NFL, book it.

  • alex7

    303, spot on.

It’s a QB / DC league. Been preaching it for years.

WHich is why the Palmer move had to be made. Upgrades our QB spot, gives us at least a top-15 QB, which is a MUST to make the playoffs.

Nothing was happening here with JC, or Boller, or Pryor, or a mid-1st rounder this draft.

  • http://www.raiderettes.com Sullivan44

303, I’ll bet you the Raiders draft the same as they did when Al was alive. Forget about the franch QB.

  • Raider guy

What if the bronco cach turns out to be the next bill parcells? And then we held that over the next ten years! Whoa boy that would be super sweet.

  • Thec07

Alex, you want to switch to a 3-4…I am cool with that however, you do not have the personel on the roster, which mean you need to turn the current D upside down, inside out…

  • Thec07

Alex, question who on the current roster would you place in your 3-4 D?

  • http://www.raiderettes.com Sullivan44

Hue should have been given another year, same set up as last year, with Hue being the HC/interim GM. Anything less than playoffs this year, then he’s out. We f’d up. We just took a shovel and dug a whole even deeper.

  • alex7

    lol Twocents.

Too easy, I gotta play devil’s advocate, k?

    Why McKenzie will fail:

    Peter principle.
No experience choosing HCs or coordinators.
Was one of about 5 guys who checked off on a prospect before GB would draft him.
Talent (scouting) can’t be “taught” to others.
No ability to transfer his “gut feelings” onto a system and other co-workers.
Doesn’t have strong football minds around him.
Interviews (his short work sample) nothing to be proud of.

  • alex7

    Thec

Wade Phillips did it in Texas in one off-season with 80% same roster that was ranked 30th last year.

It can be done with the right scheme.

  • 303Raider

    Sullivan,

Why would you say that. Are you a glass half full fan or half empty?

I bet Reggie will evaluate talent the “Non-Al” way. What would we think differently?

Let’s give this guy the benefit of the doubt. He inherited a roster that has issues on Defense or we just need the right coach as we should win and compete in our Division right away.

Doesn’t he get credit for the current GB roster?

  • http://www.raiderettes.com Sullivan44

I believe Silver’s report about why Hue was fired. I think Mark’s running everything. The only good thing about it is that he’ll probably wind up firing all of Al’s guys too, because he probably hates his dad’s guts. Basically, our new owners/meddler is Al Davis without the penchant for man defense, corners, and wide outs. Everything else will be just like the old man, like this coaching search.

Wimbley, Seymour, McClain, Curry all have 3-4 experience.

Secondary doesn’t change THAT much in terms of responsibilities.

We need a NT and a LB, and we’d have a foundation for it.

You do realize that Silver’s report was primarily “informed” by Hue’s sour-grapes vitriol?

  • SnB offense defense specialteams

    Alex,

I always think the best yardstick is what the independent marketplace thinks.

Reggie was a candidate for GM in Chicago and for Indy and was a candidate for Houston and Atlanta.

So he is a legit candidate.

So let’s see how he does.

Either you hire someone who was fired from a previous GM job or you get someone on the rise…but no experience.

  • 303Raider

It’s funny to hear anyone on this Blog to say that we don’t have the players on our roster to play a 3-4. How do you know that?

Lol, all we are doing here is speculation at Best.

Everyone knew after Al died, we were going to get a GM. Shoot, I’ve wanted one since Bruce Allen left, even though he wasn’t a traditional GM.
