Raiders without more than head coach right now; Tice scratched

Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie is in Mobile, Ala., for the Senior Bowl. He arrived there Monday, with eight scouts in tow and no coordinators or assistant coaches. For good reason: all effectively are out of work.
For now, at least. The Raiders removed the coaches page from their official website. That lends further credence to McKenzie’s stance that whoever he hires as the replacement for the fired Hue Jackson will be allowed to hire his own staff.
Given that, some, most or none of the coaches from Jackson’s staff will be back in 2012, even those whose contracts haven’t expired.
Defensive line coach Mike Waufle and wide receivers coach Sanjay Lal already bolted, with Waufle going to the St. Louis Rams and Lal to the New York Jets in the same capacity they served the Raiders.
During his few days in Mobile, McKenzie intends to interview some prospective candidates for the Raiders head coaching vacancy.
His scheduled interview with Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Mike Tice on Tuesday has been canceled, according to multiple reports from Chicago.
“I was disappointed I wasn’t able to complete the interview process,” Tice told ESPNChicago.com. “But let me say this: I’m very excited about the opportunity and the new position I have with the Bears. I strongly believe everything happens for a reason. And I think there are some great reasons to be in Chicago.”

I remember before season started and any of our free agents we’re re signed and that fs from sf gholston was available and a lot of people said he was soft and couldn’t tackle, lol mo fo is a pro bowler and can tackle better than any of our db’s except branch. We missed out on Carlos Rogers too, I guess it wouldn’t of mattered since our players were put in wrong place all day compliments of bres.

  • YoungAmerican

DMac is a rare talent in the sense that he’s rarely on the field.

Even McFadden isn’t unstoppable when he’s healthy. Elite running backs quite simply don’t help their teams win. If they did, the Chargers, Vikings, Jaguars, and Seahawks would all have rings by now.

The Raiders would be wise to stock up on RBs who can do enough to keep the offense moving, and use the draft picks and cap space they’d get in return for McFadden to improve the other parts of the team.

  • DeuceDeuce

    Missed out on Carlos Rogers??

He was a 1st round bust who nobody wanted.

He was one of the last FA CBs to sign.

  • Raiderbuck

    Adam Schefter
Raiders have identified Broncos DC Dennis Allen as the leading candidate to become their next HC. Raiders told other candidates they’re out.

Goldson has actually missed A LOT of tackles this season. But a good supporting cast covers the weaknesses in his game.

He’s not great in coverage. Good instincts in run support, but an inconsistent tackler. Still a better player than Huff, if only because of those instincts.

If anything, the Raiders missed on Johnathan Joseph, who signed for less money than Stan Routt got.

And you cant ‘miss’ on a FA that doesnt or didnt want to sign with you in the first place.

People talk like we could have had all these FAs..

If Allen is the guy, Broderick Bunkley and Wesley Woodyard would be free agents to watch. Both had very good seasons in Allen’s system.

There are other factors like..winning.. organization.. etc.

    Dennis Allen? Good choice.

Another thing to check: what the former team thinks. I checked out what a few Bronco fans were saying, and they are NOT happy about potentially losing Allen. They like him a lot better than John Fox.

    ————

A winning organization is what vets who have already had their payday look for.

Guys whose rookie contract just expired? Especially guys who are borderline Pro Bowl players? They’re looking for long-term, big-money deals. Like the one Routt got, even though he’s a #2 CB at best.

Joseph took less money to be the Texans’ #1 CB. And before last season, the Texans were never a “winning organization”.

You assume we can get compensation worthy of what McFadden provides for this team. There is a derth of free agent RB’s. No one is going to give up 2 2′s for an oft injured RB, when there are 20 other running backs to chose from from FA pool.

Plenty of teams will be attracted by DMac’s potential. There are also teams who have few other areas to improve, where bringing in a part-time player who can be a difference maker when healthy isn’t a huge risk.

Personally, I’d take a 2nd and a 4th for McFadden. If the Raiders can’t get that, then they should just restructure his contract.

Either way, the Raiders need to add two more running backs to the roster. One to replace Bush if he leaves in free agency. One to fill McFadden’s spot when he gets injured again.

Well, if they’re the type of site that steals from other journalists and doesn’t give them credit? I have no use for them. That’s simply unethical. Total lack of integrity there.

Also, unless this has changed in the last couple years, the grammar is horrendous in the few articles I’ve read from there in the past. Terrible syntax, spelling and punctuation errors – it’s like there’s no editing process whatsoever. Even if the “insight” from that site was something I couldn’t get anywhere else (and it definitely isn’t), it’s unreadable. That’s why I haven’t been back since finding a link in this blog a couple years ago.

Have you ever heard a GM say he hates draft picks?

  • http://www.addictedtoquack.com RaiderDuck

I just hope Allen keeps most of the offensive staff. Our offense was NOT the problem last year. Defense and discipline were what cost us.

Why would he restructure the last year of his deal? You know what McFadden is going to do next year. Its a contract year. He is going to be an absolute beast. 2000+ total yards from scrimmage easily.

I would love to sign Ben-Jarvis Green-Ellis to replace Bush. He would be a solid contributor, he is an excellent pass protector (something Bush has proven he absolutely is NOT) and he literally has NEVER fumbled in the NFL. Not a single time.

It is completely unprovable. You will NEVER know what the play called required of the players to say they were put out of position versus, just didn’t know what the fck they were doing.

  • YoungAmerican

I don’t know where y’all keep getting this, but it is NOT the last year of McFadden’s deal. He’s making $5.5 million in 2012 and a little more in 2013.

The Raiders are already over the salary cap, with several other areas of the team they need to improve. At this point they couldn’t even sign BJGE, much less any impact defensive player.

$5 million a year is too much for a player who has recurring toe and foot injuries. Too much for a player who isn’t effective when he’s not 100% healthy. Too much for a running back when running backs can’t carry teams against elite defenses.

  • FormerlyGoodOle00

The only guy you have to stick with is richard seymour. All his money is guaranteed and he has few productive years left. So you either play him or sit him. Doesn’t matter you still pay him.

The rest of these check cashers have time still left in their careers. Something needs to be done, restructure or release.
