McClain is not as advertized. That damnned Saban said he was the smartest player he ever coached…Truth be told, the kid is not high on effort and is miles away from reading plays fast enough to make up for his lack of speed.

    ============================================

I’ll give McClain one more shot, but right now he’s looking like another Brian Bosworth: A good college linebacker on a great college defense that made him look like a great linebacker. As soon as he leaves that scheme and supporting personnel, his weaknesses are magnified.

McClain might still be the smartest player Saban has ever coached, but that’s an argument that even a touch of stupidity could be a good thing for a player.

VOTE NO IN LA TIMES POLL ASKING IF THE OAKLAND RAIDERS SHOULD MOVE TO LA!
The Raiders spent 12 years in LA, but were born & have spent 39 years in Oakland. Mark Davis says he wants to build a new stadium in Oakland, but if it can’t get done he’ll move the team to Santa Clara, or LA or where ever he can get a new stadium for the Raiders, LA Times & espnLA is doing a poll to see how many people want the Raiders in LA, in order to lure the Raiders to Los Angeles . Please vote no & tell another Real OAKLAND RAIDERS FAN

I say cut Kelly, for the same reason teams cut Albert Haynesworth. He may have a good play every so often, but he does not care about winning, he laughs it up after looses, and sets a bad example for the rest of the D. You can get the similar production for a minimum wage vet without all the drama.

I say we keep Kelly he is a true raider he is top 8 dts and cutting him really would hurt us than not. We need depth so if we can get some rotation guys we will be better off . We already paid him all the big $ so hes not that exp. If McClain was a decent lb and could hold down the second level we wouldn’t be pointing fingers at seymore and Kelly.
    ************

Kelly has been with us for what?? 8 years?? Whats our combined record those 8 years???

Comical to stick with a guy thats damn near 30 that always jumps offsides and has been a member of a defense that ALWAYS is in the bottom 3rd of the league against the run but cut a guy thats 22, was a consensus 1st rd pick, that won a NC in college and has never been under .500 in his NFL career.

    Just silly.

Horrible comment. How many “dumbazz” players do you think NE has drafted in the last 10 years?? To say that a smart FB player is a step behind a dumb football player in terms of reacting is maybe the least intelligent thing I’ve ever seen in this blog. And thats saying something.

Wow. That poll about moving the team to LA is close! 50/50. what does that tell me? That we should most definitely cut Routt, Kelly and Mclain!

  • Macho Man Randy Savage

Anybody in here a soccer fan? where is la milicia?

  • RaiderRockstar

    Cut Boss.

    Move Reece to TE.

    Gordon is a BEAST!

    Meyers is solid/reliable.

    Ausberry back to WR.

    ***

Jhill & JFB are in lockstep on the TE issue, I see.

Boss’ biggest issue was not getting enough opportunities … he’s way more talented than Myers, Gordon & Ausberry! He’s the only dual threat we’ve got. He can block & catch. We don’t have many draft picks this year and I’d rather spend them on bigger NEEDS. If we get some undrafted rookie or cheap free agent that matches or outplays Boss? Fine, get rid of him! We’re not tied at the hip, but he’s far from being an issue. Oakland has bigger fish to fry !!!

I never said WE sucked because of TK. I said he constantly jumps offsides. I said we constantly suck against the run with him. Those are both facts. Look them up if you dont believe me.

My opinion of TK is one of a selfish player only worried about sacks and a payday. His play on the field, and the fact that he can barely formulate a sentence only reinforce my negative perception of him.

Contantly jumping offsides is a selfish act. Shows that all he really cares about is trying to sack the QB. Our run defense suffers because of his tunnel vision. If we had even 1 good year of stopping the run with him on our DLine I could possibly be persuaded. But we suck EVERY year. Now I’m not saying he’s the ENTIRE problem, but I’ve seen enough to know he’s a good part of the problem. He’s an AD scholarship player and most people know it.

  • http://www.raiderettes.com Sullivan44

Does anyone think Mark’s going to make his decision based on an LA Times poll? It all comes down to investors. And Oakland is just as much in the running as anyone, especially with Al now out of the picture. No disrespect to Al and his fanatics, but let’s be honest, in the bay area business circle he was giant red flag. The Raiders are a much more attractive investment now.

  • DEATHROW 55

Macho man what is your idea of a bad azz dt that we can obtain in free agency or a realistic trade? You were probably a turdell sands fan, huh.

  • Silverandblack666

The fact is that we need draft picks and we are going to let some guys go.

It does not make any sense to trade Mcfadden as much as we have invested in him plus he is injured and you cant get much for an injured player. The only way to get a low 1st rounder or high second round pick for him is if we were in mid season and he was tearing it up like he did at the beginning of the year.

With all that being said why not keep him for the last year of his contract and if he does well then leaves via free agency we can get a compensatory pick for him maybe a late 3rd or 4th rounder. Which may be all we could get now for trading him while injured.

Even if he is healed right now there is no way to showcase that to other teams as its the off season.

Mcfadden stays and plays out his last year of his contract here there is no value in trading him at this point.

Team sucked past 8 years because of Kelly?

    That’s just rich.

So, it was Kelly who traded Jon Gruden for cash and draft picks.

It was Kelly who, instead of making a serious run for eventual Super Bowl winner Sean Payton, hired Norv Turner.

It was Kelly who drafted Gallery over Phillip Rivers, when our current QB was a 90 year old Rich Gannon.

It was Kelly who drafted Fabian Washington over a QB from Cal named Aaron Rodgers, and instead settled on Kerry Doofus Collins as QB.

It was Kelly who, instead of making a serious run at more qualified candidates, decided to hire Art Shell as head coach.

It was Kelly who drafted Michael Huff over Leinart and Cutler, by no means future hall of fame QBs, but still quite needed when you consider we settled on Aaron Brooks!

It was Kelly who hired Lane Kiffin, Monte Kiffin’s son, who had already been at USC, and expected him to twiddle his thumbs and follow orders like a puppet.

It was Kelly who drafted JaMarcus Russell.

It was Kelly who, instead of just cutting ties with Kiffin and paying him what he was owed, putting the mistake behind him and moving into the future, tried to get out of payment by creating a huge national spectacle and accuse Kiffin of misconduct. “overhead projector” now one of the most memorable, embarrassing Raider moments, right up there with Gruden beating us in the Super Bowl.

It was Kelly who drafted Darius Heyward Bey over Raji and Orakpro.

Yeah, you know, it’s amazing Kelly still has a job here. That kind of GM record is unacceptable.

  • Carl Weathers

McFadden has 2 more years left on his rookie contract.

He has shown to be too good when healthy to give up on. The OC needs to limit him to 15-20 touches a game. That’s still averages out to be 280 touches in a 16 game season. Bring in Ryan Grant or some other guy to back him up and give him and Taiwan 10-15 touches combined.

Unless Reg can somehow snag a 1st for him, I think he is staying put. I hope so anyways.

  • http://www.raiders.com Raider O

I like Crawford, Bequette, and Curry as pass rushers.
Draft a RE, and move So Nasty to LE.
Draft a NT, move Houston inside to rotate at DT, and trade TK or Seymour.
Seymour, TK, Dez, and Houston play the same position.

  • http://www.raiderettes.com Sullivan44

You let opposing DCs know that McFadden will only be getting 15 handoffs a game, they’ll never respect our run game. One of the perks of having a talented RB is that defenses have to respect him and play up, opening up windows in the intermediate passing game. Duh! Duh!!!

Biekert had no experience coaching LB’s when he joined us 2 years ago as asst under Mike Haluchak.

when John Marshall & Mike Haluchak (Cable guys) were kicked to the curb.. Biekert was promoted to LB Coach and given Rickey Hunley from the UFL as an assistant

I don’t want any more “on the job training” guys attempting to develop Rolando McClain. He requires the best in the business and even that may not be good enough to save him from BUST status…

  • http://www.raiderettes.com Sullivan44

You draft for 3 years down the road. You only draft for immediate need when the player is an absolute no brainer, like Andrew Luck. We should take the best QB available with our first pick. We will need a QB in 3 years.

Good thinking Sullivan, but I think we wait until next year when there’s a better QB class coming out, AND we have a 1st round pick.

If I were GM, I’d honestly draft a QB every 2 years or so. Nothing move valuable, necessary, and trade-able.

According to draftcountdown, we are observing RBs, OLBs, and DL @ the Senior Bowl.
    *********************

What that tells me is we are switching to a 3-4 defense. Also, MBush is walking which is OK with me. He’s NOT a starter. Good BU but definitely NOT starter. Hope we go after FA Marshawn Lynch as a replacement.

  • Carl Weathers

Raider O, I think the Dline should look like this:

    LDE-Shaugnessy/Moss
    LDT-Kelly/FA or draft pick
    RDT-Houston/FA or draft pick
    RDE-Wimbley/Bryant

Seymour the great leader has lead this team in bonehead penalties, ejections and disappearing acts. I won’t miss him at all. Kelly I don’t think has a big price tag this year so keep him for one more year unless Reg can trade him for a pick and drafts a DT or FA pick up.
My 2 cents on the subject, now back to work…

  • http://www.raiderettes.com Sullivan44

Don’t the Giants use a 4-3? Interesting to watch for this SB. Could this be the ultimate formation bowl? 4-3 vs. 3-4? That Giants d line gets in Brady’s face and they win, I think that goes a long way to debunk the theory that we’re in a 3-4 era.

I think McClain needs one more year with a different DC. He was expected to do too much in pass coverage, as was Wimbley. He was reading pass first most of the time instead of run first. On snap of the ball, he’s back on his heals ready to back-pedal into pass coverage instead of ready to come up and fill gaps.
As for the gun thing, who knows what really happened.
You may have some guy that McClain used to to pick on
starting crap with him at a party and then going to the cops saying he fired a gun next to his head. Any witnesses?? Now the guy is suing McClain. I think there is the answer. Looking for a payday!!!

    191

We’re a .500 team with Seymour the last 2 years. Go back and look at what our record is with TK and tell me which one we should keep again. And yes TK has a big price tag as a result of the deal he got 4-5 years ago that was the biggest ever for a DLineman at the time.

  • LA to TheBay

Packers I think use mostly a 4-3 too. I’m trying to google this because I really don’t pay attention to formations when watching teams other than the Raiders. One article I have in another window says packers are a base 3-4 team, but they mostly use a 4-3. Whatever the hell that means.

Still think with the Raiders’ personnel they should use a Tampa 2. Tampa 2 is different from the cover 2 in that instead of the CBs having the sideline from the l.o.s to about 20 yards deep, they have the sideline from the l.o.s. all the way to the goal line. It’s an optimal defense for fast CBs that can keep up with WRs. This added responsibility by the CBs frees up the safeties to close up the deep middle, which is typically vulnerable in a regular cover 2 because of course the safeties are then responsible for their respective half of the deep field, all the way to the sideline.
