NFL Network: Knapp a done deal

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Tuesday, January 31st, 2012 at 8:00 am in Oakland Raiders.

Greg Knapp will return to Oakland as offensive coordinator, the NFL Network is reporting.

Knapp, the quarterbacks coach for the Houston Texans for the past two seasons was hired by Lane Kiffin to work in that capacity for the Raiders in 2007 and took over as the primary play-caller when Kiffin was fired.

Those duties were eventually taken over by Tom Cable as the offense struggled under JaMarcus Russell, with Knapp leaving to become offensive coordinator in Seattle in 2009 and then moving to Houston in 2010 when Jim Mora’s staff was swept out in favor of Pete Carroll.

Knapp was offensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers from 2001-03 and worked with Raiders coach Dennis Allen with the Atlanta Falcons, where both were working under Mora.

Allen declined to confirm Knapp’s addition to the staff in an interview with KNBR Tuesday morning, saying he and general manager Reggie McKenzie would meet and determine when to release information regarding staff hires.

Until our D forces the other team to punt in a division-on-the-line/game to make the playoffs, a QB who throws for 350 yrds without issue is NOT my concern…

    Truraider, two things:
KK talks down to EVERYONE he is a mental case. It’s his…thing.

And you’re right Kawakami is an idiot.

What I am OUTRAGED about is John Fassel not being signed back up!!! This is UNACCEPTABLE! Wtf!!

Should we take a look at desean jackson? Cal guy and is considered a DIVA becauae he is not getting paid in philly. I would feel the same way if you flush 100 million dollars to a ex-con and dont look my way first after what he did for philly. But he would be a good deep threat for palmer. Having DHB Ford Moore and Jackson our Wr sets will be scary.

    No kidding.

    In the last 5 years, Palmer has 89 TD’s & 73 int’s.

kawakami is only partially right. Most fans melting down over saunders arent upset because of how or why the decision was made, nor is it about continuity vs. rebuilding. The simple answer is that most fans know that palmers best chance of sticking beyond the 2012 season goes hand in hand with suanders being the oc.

Face it fans palmer has gone from golden ticket, to stop gap, to miscast.

This is a bitter pill for palmer fans to swallow

I’d prefer we spend FA $$$ on impact defensive players, and an upgrade to the O line.

If D Jackson ends up in a Raider uni, I’m cool with that too.

    New post.

Also like the idea of Donatell(sp?) from the 49ers as DC. Seems like it would be a solid pick up. And the way he had the 49ers secondary playing was good. Image what he can do to ours. And he should bring gholston with him

    For perspective……

Of Palmers 16 int’s 37% (6) came in the 1st 2 games after getting up off the couch.

Another 25% (4)came in the Green Bay beating.

I’m confident next season will show that Palmer can take care of the ball,
    ================

No one in the building at raiders head quarters cares about these excuses.

If this is what you do to get to sleep at night have at it, but it doesnt fly in oakland.

By the way you being confident in palmer taking care of the ball mean squat, he never has been a game manager, and that is what knapps offense will need

You guys are too funny today. Palmer is signed to a contract, OF COURSE THE GM AND COACH ARE GOING TO TALK TO HIM. From what i read it appeeared that they wanted to gauge carsons attitude since hujacks departure to see if he would be on board. This doent mean in any way that he wont be gone by the end of this year, especially if he struggles.

Of course carson is the starter going into the season, he is the only signed vet on the roster. Dont fool yourself into believing that there wont be competition brought in, or that he is a lock for 2013.

This is afull rebuild people, im not concerned with who plays qb in 2012 because i dont see a long term answer on the team. I am over joyed thought that carson went from golden boy to stop gap the minute big mack signed on.

Did you guys miss allen saying “the qb position needs to be addressed”? or big macks ‘i like my own players” when asked about carson.

CARSON IS A STOP GAP I DOUBT HE SURVIVES INTO 2013, NOT ONLY BECAUSE HE DOESNT FIT THE WCO, BUT HE NEEDS TO LEARN A NEW PLAYBOOK (WHICH WE SAW IS A STRUGGLE FOR HIM) AND HE WILL CONTINUE THROWING PICKS.

Sorry guys, enjoy it while you can his time is running out

Sour grapes from a BroMance with JCampbell that didn’t fly. Get over it Mystic. Your saga has already gotten old and many of us are tired of it. If you don’t like CP, that’s your right. But please don’t come in here and try to blow smoke up our a$$ about how bad CP is. I too happened to like Soup. I think he’s a good person and decent QB. But, he’s not CP level of ability nor will he ever be. Peole like you come in here trying to beat down CP for INT’s. There are 3 people involved in and possibly responsible for an INT. In CP’s case here, the vast majority on INT’s while at Oak were not his responsibility. CP will make passes that Soup would not even try. Therein lies the difference.
