NFL Network: Knapp a done deal

Greg Knapp will return to Oakland as offensive coordinator, the NFL Network is reporting.

Knapp, the quarterbacks coach for the Houston Texans for the past two seasons was hired by Lane Kiffin to work in that capacity for the Raiders in 2007 and took over as the primary play-caller when Kiffin was fired.

Those duties were eventually taken over by Tom Cable as the offense struggled under JaMarcus Russell, with Knapp leaving to become offensive coordinator in Seattle in 2009 and then moving to Houston in 2010 when Jim Mora’s staff was swept out in favor of Pete Carroll.

Knapp was offensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers from 2001-03 and worked with Raiders coach Dennis Allen with the Atlanta Falcons, where both were working under Mora.

Allen declined to confirm Knapp’s addition to the staff in an interview with KNBR Tuesday morning, saying he and general manager Reggie McKenzie would meet and determine when to release information regarding staff hires.

This thing might get ugly next year on the Defense. We got a lot of scholarships that suck BUT no draft picks to replace them.

Allen might have to put up with a lot of prima-donnas on D or elevate a bunch of Practice squad guys/rookie3rd,4th,5th rounders. Either way were gonna have to bite the bullet next year on D.

    R-talk,

Dennis Allen will give some guys a shot under a legit DC and we’ll see what kind of production can be milked from this group. I’m just glad we don’t have to worry about giving Tyvon Branch a contract for 4-years $50 million!

Bush doesn’t get the tough yards. Reece certainly is not a power runner either. We need a RB who can pick up a 4th and 2 consistently. If we can find a back who can do that, and act as an insurance policy for McFadden, then we would not miss Bush that much.

Bush may come crawling back to Oakland once he finds out his true market value.

Franchise Bush? That is insane Al Davis-like thinking…..

    olinesux,

I base calling us a defensive team on the fact that our GM and HC are defensive minded. If that’s “stupid” to you, I’m sorry. Stupid to me would be to believe that we’re going to be some high scoring, gambling offensive team with this defensive minded management. lol.

The best thing is we know palmers day are numbered here, well at least that is what i think is coming in 2013.

Palmer doesnt fit the wco, but i would rather have a version like they run in philly, where we can still use our wrs to go vertical. I dont think palmer would deliver in that version of the wco either. To be sure the packers, the 98 vikes, and the 09’2010 eagles are the only wco that i care for, the kind that will stretch the field after lulling you and everyone in the stadium asleep with dink and dunk ( barf, gag) quick passing.

Im a pissed raider fan right now…Knapp for OC?…

WTF! Didnt the raider O regresed under him? he runs a conservative boring offense… and Cable had to strip the OC duty from Knapp!!

Thats the high tempo N.O Saint style offense Dennis Allen is talking about?

    Man, this is definetely a B.S. hire…

And dont even get me started on hiring Manusky as DC…

Whats going on with the hires?… We may end up being the laughinstock of the NFL… I guess Dennis Allen is feeling nervous about being the head coach and is bringing in these retreads to save his neck…

bad omen indeed…. bad talent evaluation going on in raiderville…

Hope you’re right, but this D will have to get used to a Discipline they have never seen before, wonder how they’ll react, kinda of like coming out of the transition period where you had no immediate supervisor at work. But hey they’ll have to earn the MILLIONS they get now.

who is gonna complain about hard work? guys refusing to put in the effort will be punished. traded, cut or benched. I think there will be some renegotiated contracts as well, even if they aren’t made public.

I agree with Duck. Seymour will take this change in stride, while a few others like Kelly, McClain, Routt & Huff may not – at first anyways

Curry, Wimbley, Henderson & Moss will probably adjust just fine as well imo. They are vets from other NFL teams that probably didn’t tolerate the b.s. that Oakland has been known for FOR YEARS …
