NFL Network: Knapp a done deal

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Tuesday, January 31st, 2012 at 8:00 am in Oakland Raiders.

Greg Knapp will return to Oakland as offensive coordinator, the NFL Network is reporting.

Knapp, the quarterbacks coach for the Houston Texans for the past two seasons was hired by Lane Kiffin to work in that capacity for the Raiders in 2007 and took over as the primary play-caller when Kiffin was fired.

Those duties were eventually taken over by Tom Cable as the offense struggled under JaMarcus Russell, with Knapp leaving to become offensive coordinator in Seattle in 2009 and then moving to Houston in 2010 when Jim Mora’s staff was swept out in favor of Pete Carroll.

Knapp was offensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers from 2001-03 and worked with Raiders coach Dennis Allen with the Atlanta Falcons, where both were working under Mora.

Allen declined to confirm Knapp’s addition to the staff in an interview with KNBR Tuesday morning, saying he and general manager Reggie McKenzie would meet and determine when to release information regarding staff hires.

KK Munster Hypocrite POS, no comment ?

Looks like the LA_Raiders are up in 2 years. Greg Knapp as an OC? Why not Mike Martz? Can we get any worse?
At least all the McClain haters will have to STFU when he gets put into a “REAL” defensive system and he wont have a CLUELESS BRESNAHAN creating a dumb a$$ game plan.

  • RaiderRockstar

A source told FOXSports.com that running backs coach Kelly Skipper will be retained and Greg Manusky was interviewed for the defensive coordinator position

cool. DK007 calls Skipper “the penguin”

The difference JB, is I am not freaking out or throwing myself off the bandwagon just yet. I’ve just seen what Al Saunders can do with RBs and TEs with talent and size.
Knapp’s alright but Saunders had some sauce!

Every other team in the league who might be willing to trade draft picks for McFadden know what we all know. He’s injury prone. He has bum wheels. Hes a Ferrari with bent rims. We are better off to keep him. I will concede that putting the franchise tag on Bush is probably more than his worth, but who are you going to replace him with? If we can get an equivalent back for less, I am all for it. If we can retain him without franchising him, even better.

What I REALLY hope is we Franchise Bush and someone’s dumb enough to actually sign him. Then we get the two first-rounders, and our draft cupboard is instantly replenished.

And I’m sure Dakota would view a 20 year old Gloria Allred as a prime example of a woman who has her stuff together. Most women today with any kind of goals in life don’t have kids until their late 20s. That’s just the truth. It’s not bigoted.

You are more generous than I. My rating of Knapp is poor at best. IMO, our offense was just a couple of linemen away from being a top 5 rated O. Now, who knows what it’s going to look like. Fixing things that are not broken is NOT a good philosophy. Again IMO, picking Knapp over Saunders was Allen’s first BIG mistake. If they dump Palmer in favor of one of these so-called WCO QB’s, I’ll really be pissed. We finally now have a franchise QB, the caliber of at least Gannon, and now it appears that they are going to piss that all away.

Vegas they also know he will never play sore. No hulk in him.

Admit it. I was right years ago to call for trading DMAC before his value plummeted.

Wow I just figured it out. Allen hired Knapp so he could blame our 3-13 record on him while avoiding giving Cincinnati another 1st and securing a high 1st for us in 1013. Then he has good reason to fire Knapp and hire a real OC like Norv Turner.

  • YoungAmerican

It’s entirely possible that a more conservative WCO is what Palmer needs in order to cut down on picks. Set up the long ball with short passes. Let DHB and Ford open things up with some catch-and-run plays. Keep the offense on schedule with a the run game.

We’ll see, though. I thought Al Saunders was a perfect fit for the type of players roster, but I’m not going to pretend I know what Knapp plans to do playcalling-wise. We just have to wait and see.

AMEN. Some people act like Bush is also blocking for himself on those short yardage mishaps. I can count numerous times, Carlisle, Satele, Barnes, etc. got blown up. If Bruce Campbell can’t earn himself a starting job this coming camp, he needs to give all those physical gifts and talent back to God.

I really like when an O can throw deep off play action.

A consistent run game, can provide this.

Quick slants and timing routes enhance the speed we already have on the outside.

Forcing the D to play closer to the line = Big p[lays down field.
