Greg Knapp will return to Oakland as offensive coordinator, the NFL Network is reporting.
Knapp, the quarterbacks coach for the Houston Texans for the past two seasons was hired by Lane Kiffin to work in that capacity for the Raiders in 2007 and took over as the primary play-caller when Kiffin was fired.
Those duties were eventually taken over by Tom Cable as the offense struggled under JaMarcus Russell, with Knapp leaving to become offensive coordinator in Seattle in 2009 and then moving to Houston in 2010 when Jim Mora’s staff was swept out in favor of Pete Carroll.
Knapp was offensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers from 2001-03 and worked with Raiders coach Dennis Allen with the Atlanta Falcons, where both were working under Mora.
Allen declined to confirm Knapp’s addition to the staff in an interview with KNBR Tuesday morning, saying he and general manager Reggie McKenzie would meet and determine when to release information regarding staff hires.
