Skipper coming back, Manusky interviewed

Fox Sports is reporting that new Raiders coach Dennis Allen has decided to retain running backs coach Kelly Skipper and that he interviewed Greg Manusky for the defensive coordinator position held by Chuck Bresnahan last season.
Skipper has been with the Raiders the past five seasons. He coached tight ends in 2007-08, running backs the past three seasons.
Manusky, 44, has spent 11 seasons coaching in the NFL. He was the San Diego Chargers defensive coordinator last season, until he was dismissed by head coach Norv Turner at season’s end.
Before that, Manusky was the defensive coordinator for the 49ers from 2007-10 and coached linebackers for the Chargers (2002-06) and Washington Redskins (2001).
In summary, Greg Knapp has replaced Al Saunders as the offensive coordinator, Skipper is back as the running backs coach, defensive line coach Mike Waufle and special teams coach John Fassel signed with the St. Louis Rams and wide receivers coach Sanjay Lal went to the New York Jets.
Allen and the Raiders have not confirmed any coaching moves yet.

Mcfadden already said that knapps offense does not fit his style. He made this comment when hue became OC which makes this knapp hire even more stupid. Allen is failing already. Lol at all blind ‘i will trust allen’ talk. Blow up the offense yeah great idea.

You assume that DMC is in the plans for next year. Dont count out a trade.

  • CanuckRaider

Definitely surprised by the Knapp hiring. While most of the problems on offense during his previous stint here were the result of terrible QB play (See Purple Drank as exhibit #1), he is a “west coast” guy and our personnel is more suited to a deep passing attack. Will Knapp adjust to our strengths or try to fit round pegs into square holes?

You’re right – Knapp’s offense does NOT fit McFadden’s style. McFadden’s style is run until you get injured, then spend the rest of the season on the shelf. I don’t like that style of offense!

Just want to put out there that when Knapp was O coordinatorn in Oakland last time Lane Kiffin was calling the plays, not Knapp, so u can’t put all the blame on knapp. When he was OC for the niners in 01-03 they were ranked top 10 on offense all 3 yrs (4,8,5) with less offensove talent than the raiders have now. and with the falcons he was ranked #20,#12,#12 the years he was there where he had vick but nobody else on that team. And recently hes been coaching with the texans as qb coach and they have been a pretty high powered offense the last cpl years so hopefully he brings that to oakland. And manusky, is hes hired i dont think it will b that terrible. I mean think about when he coached the niners they had a top 15 defense his last three years the and their offense was terrible (not ranking above 23rd in offense any season he was there and having a ton of turnovers *ale smith). And even last yr when he got fired bc they were giving up a lot of points, waant philip fag boy rivers turning it over like 4 times a game when he got fired, hard to put up good defensive numbers when that happens in my personal opinion. I just think we should wait and see. I’m an optomist tho when it comes to te raiders. So i am still juiced for 2012 season

That may be true, but what about when Cable stripped him from his playcalling?

  • RaiderRockstar

Offensive Coordinator Knapp Stripped of Play Calling Duties

    November 11th, 2008 Matt Loede

The Raiders offense has been awful during parts of the 2008 season, and now the team is doing something about it, as offensive coordinator Greg Knapp has been stripped of the play calling duties according to the Oakland Tribune. Tom Cable, acting head coach, is taking over the duties, meaning that he is the third different coach to call offensive plays in Oakland in 08.

Reports say that Cable called the plays Sunday during the Raiders 17-6 loss at home to Carolina. The move likely was made quickly after the team put up just 77 yards and three first downs against the Falcons at home during a 24-0 loss two weeks ago.

When you are the last one or so to pick a coach, that doesn’t leave too many assistant coaches out there except perhaps at college level or ones that were fired.

Maybe some great assistants is a dream of the future.

  • aig-raiders

    Manusky > Bresh

That’s how I look at it. SF defense was 13th and 15th during his last 2 seasons there. Last season, they added Carlos Rodgers and he became a stud FA for them at CB, which was their biggest issue. Manu was there when they drafted those stud LB’s now. Stop panicking.

Outside of that atlanta game, the offensive numbers looked pretty similar before and after he relieved him of Playcalling duties. That tells me it wasnt all the Playcalling. I mean loom at that teams roster, russell, a rookie mcfadden/bush combo, johnnie lee higgins our leasing wr? Our offensive line was garbage. Cmon man thats a completely different team. Im just sayin look what ue did when he had talent. We’ll never know until next season. In that atlanta game they got down by a lot early and had to put it in russells hands. Every raider fan knows what happened next. Just sayin.
