Two coaches hired, one confirmed, one moving on

By Steve Corkran
Wednesday, February 1st, 2012 at 11:13 am in Oakland Raiders.

New Raiders coach Dennis Allen is moving closer toward filling out his coaching staff.
The latest moves moves include the addition of Al Miller as the strength and conditioning coach, John Greico as his assistant, offensive coordinator Greg Knapp being confirmed and tight ends coach Adam Henry going to Louisiana State.
This means that Brad Roll won’t be back as the strength and conditioning coach. The first order of business for the well-respected Miller and Grieco will be getting a handle on the rash of foot injuries that dogged running back Darren McFadden and wide receivers Jacoby Ford and Denarius Moore last season.
Allen continues his search for a defensive coordinator, with Greg Manusky moving to the forefront now that the New Orleans Saints denied the Raiders permission to speak with defensive line coach Bill Johnson.

I wish someone would make me feel better about this Gregg Knapp hire.

    Please?

It just seems like, Change for the sake of change. Why bring in people less qualified? Really, our offense isn’t in need of an overhaul, our O-Line was one of our strengths, Wylie and Wiz did wonders with our make shift O-Line. I have a feeling they will be missed, not only by the fans but obviously the players who worked there @ss off for those two. Change was not needed PERIOD

    ===========================================

Actually it IS hanged. Let’s use it in a proper sentence: Jamista Clown is ridiculed so often you would think he would have hanged himself by now. Hung is different. Let’s use it in a proper sentence: While on a golf outing with the Playboy bunnies, one remarked how Seymour is hung.

hope the Wylie rumors are false. If they are true outstanding job of fixing something that wasn’t broke. Here’s a thought, keep what works change what doesn’t. We’ve now replaced the Al Davis scholarship players for the Cheese Mackenzie’s scholarship coaches. If you can get a job by using the phrase “I know a guy” then you may not be the most qualified for that job. I really hope we keep Wylie and Wiz. We have 2 potential Pro Bowl players that don’t need their development stunted by Shanahan 2.0 The strength and conditioning coach hire was a good one. I hope we build on that.

    ^^^^^^^^
Yep! I’m not a fan at all of trying to fix things that were not broken.

Saunders or Clements could have come in call plays as the OC ahead of Knappy time offense and Wylie and Wiz were doing just fine with the OLine!

Lal and Henry and Roll needed to be replaced or were for sure expendable, but Saunders, Wylie and Wiz did solid jobs last year and should not have been replaced!

    ——————
Couldn’t have said it better! We were one game away from the playoffs. They are acting like this is the 2008 Detroit Lions!!!!

    ^^^^^^^^
Yep. One game away and an average defense away from getting into playoffs and McK and Allen are acting like we were 4-12 last season?

  • SharkCatcher

We have a new general manager..change was not needed? It’s not like the O linemen loose the skills taught just because they are gone…call it what ya want rebuilding ..sh8t, at least w e are building.! ” period”

Yep. The good old buddy network of hiring people and the “I know a guy I have worked with and I will get him to do this job”…. even though he is not the best possible candidate is not a good way to conduct or build a business or staff IMO.

Allen should be hiring the BEST possible candidates regardless if they are his buddies or not dammit!

Mark my words, the DAY Veldheer becomes a DA he will sign with whatever team Wylie is on.

  • Gdog

None of these hires seem to have ANY of the key offensive players in mind that I was hoping for a strong playoff push next year. McFadden hated the ZBS, Palmer is not going to be happy in a “ball control” offense (especially if McFadden can’t run get loose because of the ZBS) the o-line seemed to be fine without the ZBS.

This seems more like McKenzie selfishly firing Hue for no reason, and then hiring a HC that may be a rising star… but doesn’t have enough contacts to attract top assistants. So now what is Allen doing? Desperately trying to fill out the coaching staff with his own cronies regardless of the players.

I was patient for ten frigging years, and now we seem to be starting all over again?? McKenzie should have just kept Hue and Saunders for continuity on offense and simply brought in a “SB quality” DC.

If it didn’t work he could blow the team up NEXT year with his own guys.

Allen would prolly still be waiting for a HCing position.

All I’m going to say is that last year we had an offense that graded out to a C and a defense that was a D-.
Oh we were just one win away from winning the AFC West, BS.

  • RaidO

If they are going to change and blow up the offense then do it big. Allen was talking “explosive” and “up tempo” offense then he hires Kanpp.Lol, fail.
Tampa bay had the right idea trying to get Chip Kelly seeing that Oregon Ducks have one of the fastest up tempo offenses in football, college and NFL. Kelly did not want to leave but how about the OC? Allen should have brought that guy in for an interview. Better than Knapp. There are way better options.

All of the players under contract will be there this year, unless they are traded or released.

The playbook will be different, but the abilities of the current roster is still intact.

If Knapp fails to put this group in a position to excel then let’s call for His head.

Until we’ve actually seen this group perform, how do we know what they will be capable of?

Actually DMC gave credit to Hue for running plays that DMC told him he liked in Arkansas. Hue was then asked about what he did different, he said they ran more of a power scheme. You are wrong about them running a ZBS Cables last year, it was multiple and I would put money on it that Most of DMC’s yards came from running power.

Interested to see what Allen has to say about hiring Knapp. He will need to explain is comments. “Explosive” and “up tempo” offense, ext ext.
Right now Allen seems very contradicting or just has no clue what the hell he is doing. I’m sure the sports reporters will have at it.
