Raiders poach Kiffin’s staff for WR coach

The Raiders will hire USC wide receiver coach Ted Gilmore to coach wide receivers, replacing Sanjay Lal, according to a report in the Los Angeles Times.
Gilmore coached one of the most productive groups of wide receivers in the country on the staff of former Raiders coach Lane Kiffin.

Knapp is actually well regarded around the league according to various media including “Poindexter Face” John Clayton who said it was “interesting that Knapp left such a good situation” in Houston to take Raiders gig.

If you extrapolate Mike’s production he would have been an almost 2000 yard back. Those don’t come along very often. Problem is he can’t block worth a sh**.
If you are going to pay the big money, you want a “complete” back. A guy that on a 3rd and 9, the defensive pass rushers go, “coach, I turned an ankle, gotta sit this play out,” because they know they are about to get their clock cleaned by that “complete” back sitting there.

In Oakland in 2007 the only year he was really offensive Coordinator the Raiders were 25th in league after having one of the worst offenses to ever play in the NFL the year before. His starters were D. Culpepper, J. McCown and Jbustus at QB. In 2008 Cable started calling plays and basically undermined him because Knapp turned down the head coaching job and
Cable took it.
Bottom line this is an OC with 8 solid years of experience as OC and he has had really good years and mediocre years depending on the talent he had and in the case of Oakland the circumstances he had to deal with.
Please note, I for one wanted Hue to get a chance with his own staff and was hoping that Saunders would stay after that but BS is BS and its time to call it! I know its fashionable to be negative on the blog and all but Knapp seems like a solid hire.

This is such a poor agruement! He was fired from Seattle when Mora was fired when they brought in Carroll. He was fired in Atlanta when the HC was fired there. I am not sure why he was fired in SF after 2003 but the offense of that team was #5 in yardage so I can’t say he sucked.
Maybe this misunderstanding is Alex does not how normal NFL teams operate when they fire a HC they allow the new HC to pick his new staff which is usually mostly new people so he can institute his culture because ultimately the HC will be held responsible if the team under-performs.

Been thinking about the guys in the middle a lot lately. Almost all the top D’s in the league have dominant guys in the middle. Even the pats with Vince. We need that man in the middle. Would love to see Huston put on 35 to 40 lbs and move to the middle. Perfect height. Natural leverage. Not sure what the stats for this season were but his rookie year he led the NFL in yds per play when the ball was run at him. Sacks, tackles be dam. That says your shutting it down.

Raiderfankirk: Aubreyo Franklin would be a perfect fit for the middle. He’s a mountain of a man and strong as a bull, this would free up some of the others to move to end. The run defense would be much better, and we’d get more rush from the outside.

Bush could stand to lose about 10 lbs., he’d be more explosive throughout the whole game. They need too teach this guy how to block though, worst blocking back I’ve ever seen. Everyone gives McFadden a bad time about injuries and wants him trade, but Charles Woodsen had a lot of foot injuries when he was with us and not only did he recover, had some great years with GB. Let’s not be in such a hurry with such an outstanding talent, then see them go on to star for many years with another team and see them winning superbowls with someon other than us. Ciao for now!

Why spend $7.7M to franchise Bush? Rather spend it on a back that can spell DMAC and block. Bush simply can’t block and can’t take the load he was given this year. Other teams are going to notice that and will be reluctant to give him anything close to $7.7M. We could possibly get two decent FA’s for that money.

As much as I love spelling DMAC with Bush, and having Bush start once DMAC inevitably gets hurt, no way in hell would I pay the dude $7.7 million to be a freaking backup. We should let him see what he can get on the open market, then sign him to a slightly better deal to make it worth his while. He would get MAYBEY 3 mil a year on the open market. If he walks, we should use one of our Comp picks on an RB that Reggie and Allen agree would be a good replacement or pick up someone in free agency–from all accounts I have read on Reggie, I would be stunned to see him give 7.7 to a backup…no way.

No doubt, How many times did we see Bush get sprung for what would have been touchdowns for DMAC and Jones, only to get caught from behind…Also, I think Bush shy’s away from contact too much and dances at the line which slows him down. Is he good? Absolutely, but he ain’t got 7.7 million reasons why he is good.
