The Raiders announced the hiring of six assistant coaches, which should round out new coach Dennis Allen’s staff, with the possible exception of another assistant or two.
The Raiders confirmed five previously reported hires: quarterbacks coach John DeFilippo, wide receivers coach Ted Gilmore, tight ends coach Mark Hutson, defensive backs coach Johnnie Lynn and defensive line coach Terrell Williams. The lone new name is Clayton Lopez, who also will coach the defensive backs.
DeFilippo and Lopez coached with the Raiders during the past 10 years, both in the same capacity.
Hutson, Gilmore and Williams are entering the NFL ranks as coaches for the first time. Lynn has coached at the NFL level for 17 seasons.
The addition of Lopez and Lynn all but assures that Rod Woodson and Kevin Ross won’t be back for another season. Woodson inquired about the Cincinnati Bengals defensive backs job that went to Mark Carrier a few days ago.
Al Saunders (senior assistant), Steve Wisniewski (assistant offensive line coach) and Kelly Skipper (running backs) are the only holdovers from Hue Jackson’s staff last season. Saunders was the offensive coordinator last season. He was replaced in that capacity by Greg Knapp.
