Cornerback Stanford Routt agreed to terms with the Kansas City Chiefs Monday, according to multiple media outlets and first reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Routt, who will have earned $15 million with the Raiders, according to one report, will get $11 million this season and $19.3 million over three years.
The knee-jerk reaction? It means the Chiefs aren’t interested in re-signing Brandon Carr, who I’m assuming had a better year than Routt in 2011 unless he had more than 18 penalties and gave up more than eight touchdown receptions.
– Monday is the first day teams can use the franchise designation. The Raiders will keep their plans close to the vest.
“We’ll keep every option available to us open,” general manager Reggie McKenzie said through a team spokesman.
The Raiders have two prime candidates for the franchise tag _ running back Michael Bush and strong safety Tyvon Branch.
