Report: Raiders more than $25 million over projected cap figure

By Steve Corkran
Tuesday, February 28th, 2012 at 10:25 pm in Oakland Raiders.

ESPN reported earlier this month that the Raiders were $11 million over the projected salary cap for 2012. Now comes a report from ProFootballTalk.com that the Raiders are more than $25 million over the expected figure.
The ProFootballTalk.com report pegs the Raiders at $145.7 million for their top 51 salaried players, the ones who count toward the cap for now. The projected cap is slightly more than $120 million, much the same as last season.
By comparison, the Super Bowl champion New York Giants are the next most-cash-strapped team, at more than $129 million for their top 51 players.
As daunting as it seems, the Raiders still can get under the cap without much heavy lifting by the time they are required to do so, March 13, the day free agency starts.
For example, the Raiders could get quarterback Carson Palmer to restructure a contract that calls for him to earn $12.5 million in 2012 so that his cap hit drops to $2 million, in exchange for more money down the road, perhaps another year tacked on to his deal, too.
They also could get defensive tackle Richard Seymour to do the same thing, lessening by quite a bit his $15 million tag for 2012.
Finally, they can carry over $3.23 million in leftover cap room from 2011, which would cut into the $25 million with the stroke of the pen and a notification to the league office.
It isn’t pretty on paper, sure, but the Raiders never have had an issue finding creative ways to free up cap room. Some of those same people remain in the organization. It’s just that, they are going to have to work harder and longer this season than they did, say, two years ago.
In other words, expect to hear a ton of gloom and doom in the coming days, only to learn that the Raiders reached cap compliance by March 13 without the sky falling.

The real problem is that we now have new players in critical positions. We don’t really know what the master plan is. Other than fix the D and score some points, there’s no definitive information to formulate any theories on. To make matters worse, we don’t have any picks in the upcoming draft until #97. That doesn’t give us any particulars to speculate about. We are all shooting blanks in here based on very little validated information. The only things we know for sure is that Knapp is not making too many people feel comfortable with his fixing an offense that wasn’t broken. The moderators need to get some fresh meat on the line so we can have something to gnaw on.

    JB…I agree 100%

We can do anything we want to the Defense…and it will be an improvement!

All that needs to be done with the Offense is to utilize the off-season, OTA’s, and Training Camp to reap the benefits of a QB with his offensive players, the return of McFadden, and the growth of the WR’s and OLine.

We should automatically be a better team than last year!

    My Beliefs:

    1) RMR – Senior Moderator of the Blog (this is his job)
    2) Trolls – other MODS just stirring the pot.
    3) This Blog is now going to die because the MODS thought they were more important than the honest, insightful, genuine Raider fan commenters that made this blog interesting and informative as opposed to a stupid, argumentative, soap opera.

    Shame on you IBA.

RDT, I’ve been here for 6 years, and there are only about 5 interesting commenters at any given time, offering at least some kind of original or enlightening content. The rest is just, “ok, we need this guy for 3rd string long snapper”. zzzzz. That kind of boring convo does not keep a blog going. A lot of what you call troll content is funny and keeps the blog vibrant. try having a sense of humor and just rolling with it. It’s just sports, dude, which is a facet of the entertainment industry. You know how women look when they start getting all crazy over celeb gossip? That’s how you look when you take sports seriously.

  23. Random Drug Tester Says:

Sullivan44 (nom du jour) interesting how you show up now…just proves my point as to you being the “Senior Mod” whose main job is to p!ss people off and generate meaningless hits on the blog as opposed to real discourse and exchange of meaningful information.

“The rest is just, “ok, we need this guy for 3rd string long snapper”. zzzzz. That kind of boring convo does not keep a blog going. A lot of what you call troll content is funny and keeps the blog vibrant.”

This is why we have trolls uncontrolled, because it is sanctioned by the mods and those they work for that want the hits to keep coming…like it used to before the Mods tried to “keep it vibrant”.

    ==========================================
Can’t speak intelligently with this kind of mindset.

    Good night!

  32. Sullivan44 Says:

Twitter is replacing the blogosphere. At the end of the day, your trolls are all that kept blogs going. You can join twitter, follow all of the tribune writers, respond to them on twitter. you can even use an anonymous account, put up a fake profile pic. A lot of people do. Or you can use your real name. After spending a couple of hours on twitter, most people just aren’t bothering to visit blogs they used to like. That’s what’s happening. But go ahead and entertain your own conspiracy theories if it makes you feel smart.

  33. Random Drug Tester Says:

Oh…and Good-bye blog, hope everyone enjoys Twitter instead.

  34. Random Drug Tester Says:

“you can even use an anonymous account, put up a fake profile pic. A lot of people do.”

Once again…that is your deal, not everybody else’s.

Enjoy your non-real existence, probably will because it’s better than your real one.

  35. personal foul Says:

    oops.

I didn’t know I could get a post pulled for saying that.

  36. Random Drug Tester Says:

Admit it RMR…you were given a job to generate hits here…and you FAILED.

Hits have gone down and it’s on you and your sock-puppet army, because you have no connection to the real world or relationships that may exist in something you consider antiquated to new technologies such as Twitter or flavour of the day stuff.

We came here because we liked the people here and knew we could find them here, not because it was the “greatest technological way” to do so.

  37. Random Drug Tester Says:

I ask you RMR…why do you think this used to be the most succesful blog in the world?

I believe it happened before your sock-puppet army and it’s brand of humour that kept it “vibrant”.

You’re a Johnny-come-lately that didn’t know what it was in the first place.

  38. Random Drug Tester Says:

But that’s something that you are probably used to by now and just consider it something that happens and has nothing to do with you or your behaviour.

  39. JB Says:

Bush & Schilens will be gone to FA. The key resigns are Branch (S), Heyer (OG), Cartwright (RB-ST), Barnes (BU-OT), Satele (BU-C), Moss (BU-DE), Groves (BU-LB/ST), Giordano (BU-S/ST).

I’m assuming anyone indicated above with a BU designation, they can be resigned fairly inexpensively.

In addition to the above I’d like to see us go after:
    • J. Gaither – OT (SD) to start at RT
    • A. Spencer – LB (Dal) to start at OLB
    • M. Tolbert – RB (SD) to replace Bush
    • D. Connor – LB (Car) to start at OLB
    • A. Franklin – NT (NO) to start at NT
    • T. Porter – CB (NO) to start at CB
    • D. Garrard – QB (FA) BU-QB

I’m predicting we play more 3-4 than 4-3 on D. I’m looking at Romac & Curry to be the ILB with Curry as the blitzer & Romac in coverage. My depth chart would look like:

    DEFENSE
    RDE – Seymour, Moss, Bryant
    NT – Franklin, Houston, Ivey
    LDE – Shaughnessy, Bryant, Houston
    SSLB – Connor, Goethal, Groves
    ILB – Curry, Goethal, Connor
    ILB – McClain, Goethal, Connor
    WSLB – Spencer, Groves, Goethal
    RCB – Porter, Checkwa, Huff
    LCB – Underwood, DVD, Huff
    SS – Branch, Mitchell, ?
    FS – Huff, Giordano, ?

    OFFENSE
    WR – Ford, McGee, Murphy
TE – Boss, Ausberry, Gordon, Myers
    OLT – Veldheer, Gaither, Barnes
    OLG – Heyer, BCampbell, Wiz
    OC – Wiz, Satele, Veldheer
    ORG – Barksdale, BCampbell, Carlisle
ORT – Gaither, Barnes, Barksdale, BCampbell
    WR – D-Wow, DHB, Murphy
RB – Dmac, Tolbert, TJones, Reece, Cartwright
    FB – Tonga, Reece, Gordon
QB – Palmer, Garrard, Pryor, Lechler

    K – Janakowski, Lechler
    P – Lechler
    LS – Condo

  46. Hardline Says:

The CAP is a good thing; it will save us. At least we can get down to business quickly now and cut out the dead wood and prune down the under-performing wood. CP, Bush, DMAC, DHB, Richard Seymour, Wimbley, Huff, Curry, McClain, etc. etc.

All need to go to be replaced with minimum payees, gems in the rough, the unsigned FA’s, walk-ons (Otis Sistrunk was a walk on, didn’t even go to college), the rogues, the unappreciated.

C’mon Reggie and Mark, this isn’t business as usual, or a regular NFL team; do something that’s never been done. Use that strategy to transition into dynasty.

  47. Random Drug Tester Says:

Well Autumn Rising…we all can’t be stellar contributors like yourself…we can only hope NOT to be.

  48. RaiderSam Says:

So, CARSON PALMER, too? No QB. The most important position, one we havent had since Gannon left, and he’s under performing, too? 400 yards v. San Diego…what is Palmer going to play defense and stop 99 yard drives, too?

25 million over cap…AWESOME, thanks again, Al or whoever put these contracts together…..absolutely awful.

I mean, was there ever, ever a more ridiculous way to put a team together…no wiggle room, no draft picks….i mean “My way or the highway” mentality.

Of course, we’ll have a QB next season: CP. But, we can get him to re-structure. Afterall, JC is still technically under contract, and fans are mad to call him the next coming of Plunkett, and bring him back into the fold.

  51. JB Says:

    Hardline

JCampbell is NOT under contract. He an UFA. Palmer will restructure without a problem. He’s already on record tat money is not the issue. He’s already got more than he needs in excess of $100M in the bank.

This is going to be a very challenging offseason for Reggie McKenzie.

The thing that’s encouraging for me is that he had to know the state of the franchise before he took the job, which means he wanted very much to come to the Raiders. He had a great job with the Packers and was virtually certain to have other offers if he turned down the Oakland job, so no incentive at all to wade into the muck if it wasn’t the job he really wanted.

I think being the GM of the Raiders is more than just another job for RM. Couldn’t ask for a better scenario, if you’re a fan.

They worked up one side of the street, then down the other, then moved on to the next street, working furiously all day without rest, one girl digging a hole, the other girl filling it in again. An onlooker was amazed at their hard work, but couldn’t understand what they were doing..

So he asked the hole digger, ‘I’m impressed by the effort you two are putting in to your work, but I don’t get it — why do you dig a hole, only to have your partner follow behind and fill it up again?’

The hole digger wiped her brow and sighed, ‘Well, I suppose it probably looks odd because we’re normally a three-person team. But today the girl who plants the trees called in sick.’

  121. 1960AutumnWind Says:

    Dakota

I really do not know what to believe – Clayton has been wrong a lot but the methodology PFT used is flawed because it does not take into account everything. Bottom line both show the Raiders are the most over the cap team in NFL and they need to rework contracts and cut people and the way the defense played that is where it should start. They need to free up money for FA. Expect a lot of action by the 13th. We may see up to 5 opening day starters cut on defense and up to 2 on offense.

I agree with your point but whether it is 10 or 25 million the indicators are the Raiders are still over the cap and to comply and then get under the cap they will have to do a lot of restructuring. Since the defense played so bad I expect the following cuts:

    Routt – Already gone
    Johnson
Huff – Maybe depending on re-structing
    Eugene
    Kelly
    Wimbly
    Henderson

5 of these guys were starters and the others were key rotational guys that is a lot of change!

We’re paying $5-10 million (depending on the source) to Routt this year to NOT be a part of the team.

Reggie made this decision, not Al Davis.

Kam Wimbley may be cut and if thats the case we would be paying him $6.5 million in guaranteed money this season to get the BLEEP outta here.

You could go down the list and add Huff, Kelly, Curry, etc

Point is, Reggie McKenzie is gonna keep the players he wants to keep. Cut the ones he wants to cut. Restructure the ones that can be restructured.

Whats the cap hit to junk ROMAC next season? is it any better? I’m sure Reggie cant get rid of all the Al Davis dead money contracts in one offseason and still field a football team. I don’t buy it. We’re not saddled with any one underachieving player, just because Davis gave him a contract

We are going to have to play Al’s game for a few years, with some of the guys already here, while adding in new players with resonable contracts, weeding out the problem money. It isn’t going to happen all by march 13th this year.

But McKenzie has to play with the hand he has been dealt, and under the rules of the cap, so I am sure he can’t just cut any player he wants without there being cap consequences he has to factor in.

If we were under the cap, and had plenty of room to work with, I am sure we would see a ton of turnover, especially on defense, but that simply isn’t the case. Reggie will do what he can this year, and what he can in the following years to straighten out this mess.

Can’t fix overnight what took a decade to create.

  147. Marks hair Says:

Cutting romac is really impatient.. He’s not that bad, and he’s cheap.. I guess we could pay him 8.5 mil to get a couple hundred tackles a year for someone else.. But why?

Even if the report was true that the cap hit for Routt is 11 Mill, that is what we would have had to pay him to stay. That is the difference between him and a guy like Romac, who will COST 8.5 million MORE to cut than he will to keep.

Whats the cap hit to junk ROMAC next season? is it any better? I’m sure Reggie cant get rid of all the Al Davis dead money contracts in one offseason and still field a football team. I don’t buy it. We’re not saddled with any one underachieving player, just because Davis gave him a contract
    ****************
I disagree with you 100%. See comment 144. You aren’t going to be able to weed out these guys all at once and field a competitive team. Sure, we could cut all the dead weight and get 53 guys on the roster, but we wont be better than 4-12
    ******************
We are not going to cut Rol McClain – He was one of the few players mentioned in a positive light by RM and DA.

We are probably going to cut the following on Def.

Routt (done), Johnson, Eugene, Kelly, Wimbly, Henderson, Maybe Huff, Maybe Curry as well as others that are more fringe players – that is enough change! We will probably see Boss and maybe Carlisle cut on offense. After next year, Seymour will not cost us 15 million which will help a lot going forward.

  152. Marks hair Says:

  153. Dakota Says:

    Rock,

Believe me, I want McClain cut as much as you or anyone else who can see that the guy:

    1. is lazy on and off the field
    2. has off the field issues
    3. doesn’t play smart
    4. is too slow

But the reality is that he has a giant contract from his rookie year, which makes it cost prohibitive to cut him when we are tight up against the cap. He had a $23 million dollar bonus that was prorated which would be recaptured and count against the cap if we cut him this year.

Best we can hope for is that McKenzie empowers Allen to keep the douche bag off the field.

How could you possibly watch McClain play and think that? How could you sit there and watch him quit on plays as soon as the runner is one step past him and think that is a guy I want on my team? How can you watch him get constantly eaten up by blockers and think, boy that guy really makes our defense good?

Seriously, ignore the meaningless tackle stats, and look how he actually plays. look at the effort he really gives. He has no heart.

It really depends on DA’s opinions on those players. I do not think Wimbely will restructure so he is gone. Henderson is old and really only worth vet minimum so he is gone. I am just not sold on the kid.

But they are not going to cut him at his price tag, plus managment most likely want to see what they can salvage of his game. He is still young and may develop into a solid player, but right now I just don’t see it.

Totally agreed. We all respect DHB, and if he goes on to have a mediocre career in Oakland we will all love the guy because we works his ass off to be the best he can be.

Imagine if the new regime can get that out of McClain. He may never be Ray Lewis or Pat Willis (lets be honest, there aren’t a lot of those guys around) but if he puts in the work he will be better than average.
I agree with a lot of other guys, I think McClain has too much potential at 22 years old to simply assume he will never get better. Guys grow up, hopefully the discipline the new regime brings will coax that out of McClain. If not, if he is still a complete knucklehead next year, pay the 10 mill to get rid of him.

    ******************
The 23 mill IS his. Here is how it works: 23 mill signing bonus paid immediately to McClain. He has the money already. The cap hit is prorated over the 5 years of the contract (23/5 = 4.6 mil) so the cap hit each year for McClains bonus is 4.6 mill. There are 3 years left on his deal (’12, ‘13, ‘14). If he is cut today the prorated bonus accelerates meaning we owe it all right now (towards the cap) 4.6 X 3 = 13.8 mill. That is his cap hit if he is cut. His salary this year is $970k so keeping him equates to a cap cost of 5.57 mill. That is why the figure a cost of 8.5 mil to cost romac is being thrown about, because it will cost (roughly) 8.5 mill MORE to cut him than it would to keep him

I wasn’t disputing your opinion. In fact I am the first guy in here to post these #s to show that it was prohibitively expensive to cut McClain. I was explaining to you the actual cost of it, so you didn’t think it would cost us 8.5 mil to cut him, when in reality it is 13.8 mil. Just trying to make sure you are quoting accurate information friend.

I never heard anything that suggests McClain has a bad work ethic, or that he is stupid.
According to our coaches, McClain is a hard worker. And according to his college coach, he is the smarted kid he ever coached.
    >>>>

He may not be stupid, but he sure does a lot of stupid things. Like giving up his gap to take on a lineman (which was Morrison’s problem too.) Like not shedding a block. Like guessing WRONG on which gap the RB will go through over and over and over and over. I hope it was all coaching that these things could not be corrected… if he continues doing it… we will know if he is stupid or not… I am not holding my breath.

Nick Saban sucked at coaching in the NFL. Guys don’t respond to ballbusting the same way in the pros. Let’s just imagine a scenario where RoMac is acting up. What does coach Allen do about it? Cut him and load the cap figure? He can’t do that. He’s gotta carry him. In college, coach Saban can cut him if he wanted to. It’s not a fair comparison.

And the national championship Alabama team couldn’t go toe-to-toe with the worst NFL team on any given Sunday.

    192. that is not the info ive been reading.. I have read that his 23 is his no matter what, and if we cut him, its no longer prorated. Thus forcing us to give an 8.5 mil buyout..

    Get it now?
    ————————–
Sucks when you basically are stuck with a guy because paying a players 970K salary and keeping the marginal player is better than absorbing the accelerated hit.

Might be a stupid question, but what does Lamar Houston play in a 3-4?
Lamar Houston is a natural 3-tech?
    Warren Sapp was a natural 3-tech, but didn’t fit in a 3-4?
    ==============
I see Lamar more as a run stuffer.
As Mark suggested, Lamar could play end in a 3-4.

As for your comments here, lst off, thank you Bri for going. 2ndly, I never like De la Fuente, but dude has a point. Other than the W’s, where are these teams going to go? The W’s will unfortunately move back to SF. There is too much pull for them to put a arena down by Butt Pack Park. As for the Raiders, they aren’t going anywhere, and Lew Wolff is a Hall of Morons lst ballot inductee. Wolff is now trying to play nice with Oakland A’s fan, Oakland A’s player, and MLB. Even if he got the go ahead from the league, which he won’t, the Giants and the City of Oakland would sue him, and tie the deal up in court for at least 10 years. Mentioning JC for comparison is not insecurity but realism. We are not going to get Drew Brees or even one of the great rookie QBs in the draft this year. It didnt get mentioned until Vegas Raider said it after I lamblasted Palmer because he has no ammo for me on this topic so all he can do is go back to last year with JC which obviously makes his look worse since the team was better under JC and he outdid his lover Gradkowski lol…..you guys just stop because I am routin your asses on this.

Palmer doesnt deserve a chance….he quit and tried to jump on ours as a frontrunner in middle of season because he were in first and had DMAC with young WRs….and whats worse is Palmer is now in an offense that doesnt even fit him…disaster

    Regarding:

Again we mentioning JC shows a big insecurity and obsession with the guy. JC is gone Vegas…is that difficult for you to grasp?…

    ********************
Mentioning JC for comparison is not insecurity but realism. We are not going to get Drew Brees or even one of the great rookie QBs in the draft this year. We have to compare CP to realistic alternatives. Would I rather have Drew Brees or some other pro-bowl QB over CP – yes! But you have to compare apples to apples.
    *************************

No because JC wasnt eventhe topic….Carson was and him going forward in 2012 withthe WCO…..scroll up my friend and see thats what I was getting at….see from the time I posted…all I talked about is future….JC is in the past and will be with another team….and this blog has seen my posts saying I dont want him back as well if we are indeed going anew

Wouldn’t agree with any of that. Maybe the pick sixes part, but the fact is since I have been watching Raiders games, which is probably much longer than most, Palmer is HEAD AND SHOULDERS BETTER than ANYTHING we have had here. EVER. Unless as Al Davis’s final act he left us with some super cryonic being that I don’t know about who is yet to be unveiled.

    Regarding your other posts.
I don’t buy the idea that Knapp is going to install a pure WCO system that make CP ineffective. I think he is a better OC than that. I also think that CP is excited – already working with players and is going to take an active role in making this offense work this year. This is a new start for him. While this team may have a record that you predict, I do not think it will because of Knapp. It will be because the defense has no talent after it is gutted and because DMAC did not get on the field enough because of recurring injuries.

That last little bit about the sky being blue can also be used against you Palmer supporters….you have seen with your own eyes how much this guy sucks……Cincy gets a rookie QB starts winning games…trade Robert Carson to us and gets extra picks to build them into a contender for the next 2 seasons…..mind you after he quit on them….you wouldnt call that being a quitter? Did JC not help in turning us away from being such a cellar dwellar with 10 plus losses every year? Did JC ever have a 3 game losing streak? Did he ever lose back to back games? How many pick sixes did he throw? How many 3 INT games did he have?

  397. Just Fire Baby Says:

I still think we gave up too much for Palmer. Way overpaid for him in draft picks, and probably salary. I also have some concerns with his gun-slinger mentality, trying to convert every 3rd and 12, even if it means winging it into double-coverage.

But with all that being said, he is way better than what we have had the last 5-6 years, is a streaky QB, and when he is hot, he is absolutely lights out.

He will have the best year a Raider has had statistically since Gannon. If DMAC stays healthy we will have a top 7-8 offense. I think Palmer is one of the strengths of this team while you think he is some sort of scrub.

both players have agreed to restructure if we dump #55

  443. Raider Weapon X http://www.raidernationstation.com/ Says:

    440. Agreed. Kelly could be next but there will def be some juggling.

  445. CJ Legend 34 Says:

I can’t believe a Jamaarcus Russel signed jersey is still selling around $-300.00-400.00.

Why?????? LMAO who would buy it?

  446. RaiderRockstar Says:

    X,

why do we need a veteran QB when Carson Palmer is our starter?

Who have been the Giants & Colts backup QB’s over the years?

guys like Jim Sorgi, Jesse Palmer & Curtis Painter …

I’ll keep Pryor for peanuts over shelling out $2-4 million per season for Orton as #2 QB

  447. RaiderRockstar Says:

    @CJL

nobody would pay $4 for a Russell jersey.

I doubt anybody is sporting JaWalrus for $400!

  448. DMAC Says:

I wouldn’t take a russell jersey for free.

A vet needs to be brought in to compete with Pryor in camp and preseason, if Pryor proves he can play in that time frame, the vet can be cut loose, but it would be a mistake to just hand Pryor the reigns as the backup when he has taken exactly 1 snap in the NFL

  450. Carl Weathers Says:

I don’t think Kelly is going anywhere. Not this year.

  451. CJ Legend 34 Says:

Kelly is going to restructure his contract. I think we try to keep Kelly unless they go to a 3-4 defense then he is gone in search of a true nose guard.

I would not care either way. He is just as much as a waste as Seymour. Our D-line trys to be hard but they are soft man. Only good for dumb penalties.

If that’s the case. I’m all for Gerrard to compete w/ TP.

  457. PurpleDrank81 Says:

Im a giant TP fan and cant wait to see him in Pre Season…But I know he’s been out clubbing in the city and Walnut Creek and I understand it’s his offseason but if I was him I would be working extra hard tryna prove to every1 that Im not a wideout and a QB.I just hope he’s been working out and working on his footwork..

    @BCZ

I don’t think Pryor expects to be handed anything. I think he would enjoy some friendly competition.

However, bringing in a big name like Orton or Campbell (re-signed) means they have already made up their mind on who the backup QB will be

I think Pryor would beat out guys like Boller, McCown, Whitehurst, Garrard, Leftwich & Batch – all vet minimum guys imo

  459. CJ Legend 34 Says:

You know who I think may have the most trouble in Knapp’s zone blocking offense? Taiwan Jones.

In preseason he did not seem to time his blocks well.
Was all speed man!!! I recall how it took DMAC some time to work in that system as well. But before he of course hurt his foot aginst KC he was having a big game.

    Need a backup QB?

    here’s the list

    http://www.footballsfuture.com/freeagents.html

Brees & Smith aren’t going anywhere.

Matt Flynn will get starter money someplace (Miami?)

I don’t want McNabb or Young.

Orton, Campbell & Grossman too pricey

I’ll Pryor over any of those other guys !!

Shaun Hill & Chad Henne might be worth a look?

  463. Thec Says:

If that’s the case. I’m all for Gerrard to compete w/ TP.

    +++++++++++

Whomever is brought in will get beat out by TP as the #2.

we have our backup QB, and our future starter in TP…

TP = Future of the NATION….

No doubts what so ever…TP will be the MAN…

  464. Thec Says:

I’ll Pryor over any of those other guys !!

    ++++++++++

    I’ll Pryor also…

  465. CJ Legend 34 Says:

RR what do you think about John Hillis RB for the Browns serving in a RB role? He is not in a position to ask for top dollar anymore? He may be the Thunder to DMACs Lightning!

I like cedric benson myself even though the guy is trouble he eats up yards and will punish the defense. I think he runs harder than Bush sometimes.

  466. JLofty Says:

    No way Dell.
I bleed silver and black, it’s an infection I cannot rid myself of, but I DID NOT and still DO NOT support in any way, shape, or form, Marc Wilson and/or Jay Shroeder. Those guys sucked from day one and made me age prematurely way before my time.
When Palmer sucks as bad as those guys I’ll be calling for his head. Carson needs to but down the ints for sure, but NOTHING I saw reminded me of MW or JS.
    Cheers,
    JLofty

  467. JLofty Says:

Henne looked pretty good the few times I seen him play.
Shaun Hill, not so much. Kind of suckier Jason Campbell…

  468. CJ Legend 34 Says:

Taiwan Jones Pryor….Man we have a lot of young projects. I will be glad to see when this all comes together man.

DMAC, I think the Yankees game is on a Saturday!

  470. CJ Legend 34 Says:

Chad Hennee would not be a bad back up. His feet are not great and sometimes he puts to much air under the ball but maybe he would not be a bad back up.

  471. RaiderRockstar Says:

    CJL,

Peyton Hillis is only 26 years old and he was a BEAST in 2010. not sure what happened last year, but somebody said he sat out a few games he could have played in, which made his Browns coaches & teammates question his toughness and commitment …

He’s fumbled 10 times in his last 23 starts – so expect BSJ to be against the move

  472. CJ Legend 34 Says:

Shaun Hill put some good games together for the Lions would be a decent back up.

Well said…..And that is why the upside makes him an interesting prospect based on his 2010 production, and the downside..Well it is like you just said.

Hard to imagine this guy actually made the cover of Madden. The curse continues!

  474. KoolKell Says:

The news that the Raiders have $145 million in salary cap commitments for 2012 was surprising, for a couple of reasons. First, no one really knew where the Raiders were in relation to the cap. Second, the results don’t mesh with the notion that the Raiders have a high-end team.

  475. CJ Legend 34 Says:

    That should do it.

  483. djohnnyg Says:

I would bet $ that you could form a defense of nothing but practice squad players from other teams, give them decent coaching, and THAT team would find a way to make the stops that our 2011 D could not man up and make.

Here is another cap story from CSN Bay Area

Here they are trying to give the Base salary and the cap number. Usually the base salary is what you can save when you cut if it is not guaranteed. The other part of the Cap is usually previously given money like a roster or signing bonus. Kevin Boss we were arguing over did not have a 4.75 million cap number but a 2 million number. It turns out that 2 million is his base salary while 4.75 million is his cap hit if this article can be believed.

I´ve been taking peeks at the scouting combine. Really can’t tell the good prospects from the bad. Just a group of awesome athletes altogether.

Really looking forward to the draft. I really believe big mac will improve our personnel significantly this offseason. just releasing Routt was a huge addition by substraction.
