Report: Seymour, Huff restructured

The Raiders have begun to whittle away at their salary cap issues by reportedly restructuring the contracts of defensive tackle Richard Seymour and free safety Michael Huff.

According to Mac’s Football Blog, an independent outlet run by Brian McIntyre, who is well-sourced among agents and NFL teams in financial matters, Seymour dropped his base salary to the league minimum ($925,000) and converted the remaining $6,575 million to a guaranteed roster bonus for cap purposes.

Huff’s salary dropped to $700,000, moving additional money into a bonus structure that would drop his cap number from $9.828 million to $3.988 million.

The Raiders, according to various reports, have been anywhere from $10 million to $20 million over the salary cap and have committed $6.2 million to Tyvon Branch by virtue of the franchise tag.

The Raiders must still resolve the matter of linebacker of Kamerion Wimbley, due $6.5 million in guaranteed money and $4.5 million in salary this season. Quarterback Carson Palmer, due $12.5 million in salary, is a candidate for restructure who could help the Raiders easily get under a salary cap projected at approximately $120 million.

Wimbley may dupe another team into a nice signing bonus, but he will be right in this exact same spot again in 2 years.

Wimbley would be a highly valued commodity around the NFL and can expect a first-year payment from his next team that dwarfs the $11 million Oakland would have paid him.

    ————————————————————

I wonder why some of our semi’s don’t think as much of Wimbley as other teams apparently do.

Will get a first year payment from some other team that “dwarfs” what the Raiders were going to pay him????

    Yea

Dwarfing means 50% more???? He is going to command more money than Brees or Manning. Where do people get this stuff?

Hmm…The Bears are expected to take a “long look” at OLB Kamerion Wimbley if he’s released by the Raiders.
Wimbley was reportedly the Bears’ “No. 1 target” as the “ideal 4-3 defensive end to pair with Julius Peppers” last offseason before re-signing with the Raiders. The Chargers, Cardinals, and Patriots are three other teams expected to pursue Wimbley if he’s granted his freedom, as expected.

We’re now hearing Kam and his agent are sitting on their hands. If thats the case and the Bears will bite, bye bye Kamerion…

I gaurantee you that the Semi-pros in here have watched more Kam Wimbley than anyone writing about his impending freedom.

He’s a pretty good player and I don’t want to lose him, but he’s not worth what the team would have to pay to keep him around. If somebody has the cap space and wants to overpay, let ‘em.

No. I think the semis have watched more Kam Wimbley than the guys writing about him. That was my comment.

  • HayesDaze37

KWimbley and MBush could each easily net around $10-13 million guaranteed on the open market…and somewhere in the $18-23 million range for the terms of their new contracts, if they were to reach them.

Wimbley shouldn’t give any money back…but, he can restructure to stay right here. I’d like him to — I’d like to see how he and a few others coach-up under this new regime.

MBush wants to start…and I think somebody will give him the chance elsewhere, unless Reggie wants to pay the going rate. Unlikely, but it’d be pretty cool to see a healthy DMC and MBush 1-2 again, because our presumed #3 (Taiwan) hasn’t shown enough yet.

Kam Wimbley is in his prime. This will be his last big money deal. He’ll be out of the league in 5 years or less

every team in the league could use a pass rusher and probably at least 5 of them will overprice his value and get into a bidding war for him.

Routt got plenty of interest in free agency. I think Wimbley will get more interest than he did.

make no mistake about it, Wimbley is going to cash in and he knows it.

Al Davis is the one who traded for KW and gave him the huge contract last offseason. Kam isn’t going to do any favors for McKenzie & Allen. He has no reason to be loyal to them. Might be a different story is he was dealing with Davis & Jackson …

  • J Hill

    That was my comment.

    ————————————————————-

I understand that and wasn’t trying to be flip.

What do you think other GMs around the league think about Wimbley?

You don’t think he will get another fat contract as arguably the 2nd best pass rusher on the market behind Mario Williams?

No worries, Jhill. I thought you just misunderstood my post.

Wimbley has double-digit sacks once in his career (his rookie year), and that was back in 2006. He’s a 6-7 sack per year guy, and that’s his strength.

Good player? Yes. Elite passrusher? No. That said, somebody will get desperate and give him more money than he deserves. Happens every year.

I’ve said in here on several occasions that I’d like him to stay. I think he’d be an asset as a rush linebacker in a 3-4, but if it’s going to take elite mmoney for him to stay then I’d just as soon cut bait.

  • Marks hair

Sorry guys peytons not even a possibility..

  • Macho Man Randy Savage

I dont care if Wimbley gets Tom Brady money in free agency. Get him the frack outa here! He is not a 3-4 LB or DE, he cant cover TE’s and cant bull rush OTs. He has a nice swim move he does 10 times a game, thats all Wimbley does well.

  • J Hill

but if it’s going to take elite mmoney for him to stay then I’d just as soon cut bait.

    —————————————————————

I would just feel a bit more comfortable if we had an idea who would replace him.

I like the idea of ShoNasty being that elephant OLB that rushes the passer.

    @HD37

I’d like to see Kam stay, but I think Reggie is playing hardball for some reason. He already said he’d restructure like Seymour & Huff just did.

“Move the money around all you want to, just don’t take any away from me!” – KW 2012

  • Just Fire Baby

I think we will be drafting a few moving parts amongst our front 7, with the idea of a hybrid 3-4/4-3, we will need different types of players and athletes, and probably will have some position changes throughout the year.

Sounds like a recipe for success right?

  • Dakota

    Reggie,

Sign a NT to play along side Kelly, then move Seymour to where he should have been all along….LDE and let Shonasty play RDE….

  • HayesDaze37

Gannon said that very thing back in the day. He re-structured, but he didn’t give back what he already agreed to in his previous contract.

  • Just Fire Baby

We need a quick edge-rusher, Sho-Nasty, Houston, Seymour at a LDE sounds good, but they don’t get in quick enough on 3rd downs.

Wimbley was supposed to be that guy, but he disappears for weeks on end.

May not get the dynamite edge-rusher in this draft, but we will draft some speedy edge-rusher type in this draft.

Armond and B have been screaming it for years, I am just repeating it.

  • Marks hair

    We need soliai

  • HayesDaze37

YES to the BIG NT/DT…as long as he’s young (or young-ish, and still healthy). With one of our few choices, this is where we should find somebody like that in the middle of the draft.

Yeah, I think there’s a good reason that Allen and McKenzie were looking hard at linebackers at the combine.

I suppose it’s pretty simple; we can’t keep Wimbley for what we’re paying him. Maybe letting him leave will be ok, maybe it won’t, but unless he’s willing to work on the dollars he’s a goner.

I think in the long run McKenzie will get things straightened out. He just has to make some solid long term decisions first, and not all of them are going to be easy to swallow.

  • Marks hair

Shonasty is not an olb…. Yikes..

  • Marks hair

L.T was a 3-4 olb.. Nasty is waay to slow!

  • Just Fire Baby

Shonasty DID drop into coverage and picked off Alex Smith nicely, this past preseason.

Hell, he looked better in that zone, than Wimbley or Curry ever do.

  • RaiderRockstar

there are a few “surprise” cuts or guys not re-signed every offseason…

sounds like Campbell, Bush, Routt, Wimbley, Satele & Moss are not going to be a part of the team we field in 2012

    and guess what?

we’re only a week into March!!

I suspect Henderson, CJ37, Eugene & Boyd will be joining them prior to March 13th

    Afternoon Fellas,

Letting Wimbley go is a no brain’er if he’s not willing to stay for less.

We have to get the Financial house in order.

As we all know, the D was turrible.

Wimbley has played in both 3-4 and 4-3, the “experimentation time” with him has expired.

What you see is what you get.
