Raiders cut Carlisle, Henderson

Starting right guard Cooper Carlisle and defensive tackle John Henderson were cut by the Raiders Wednesday, with Henderson failing his physical.

Carlisle, a starter for the past four years, was due $3.3 million in salary and his release saves a reported $2.1 million against the salary cap. Henderson was due $4 million in salary.

The Raiders could move to bring back Carlisle at some point, given his experience with the zone blocking system which will be re-introduced this season under offensive coordinator Greg Knapp and line coach Frank Pollack.

The moves give the Raiders maneuverability should they attempt to sign free agents. Oakland’s room under the $120.6 million salary cap was an NFL low $636,000 at one point according to ESPN, although those figures remain fluid as contracts are jettisoned or restructured.

In other news, unrestricted free agent running back Michael Bush has reportedly lined up visits with the Cincinnati Bengals and Chicago Bears.

    339. No.. Howards a fa next yr.. Thats why he could dictate whitch team he goes to.. Nobody will trade for a guy whos gone next yr..

    Dude, come on.

    Dwight Howard just informed Magic front office he will not opt out of contract the would eliminate next year from his contract.

    He finishes the year and has 1 more left with the Magic.

    Is that easier to understand for you?

    We won’t be getting big name guys anyway.
    ==================================

    You guessed it. Too many holes to fill, and Reggie is going to do it the way I told you guys: by loading up on undrafted guys who are trying to get in the league because they love the game not a bunch of high priced pieces of crap who love the lifestyle but can’t seem to get on the field.

    Big Reggie is just being thrifty. Thrifty is what you do when you need many things on a tight budget.

    We can term this the Craigslist approach, meaning you are acquiring the same product quality, although used, at throwaway prices.

    ++++++++++++

    Howard is not a free agent next year. He has an opt out that could make him a free agent IF he exercises it. He is currently saying he is willing to not exercise said option and therefore would not be a free agent until 2013.

    But he has yet to waive said option.

    > I’m more talking about Carlisle and Stele. Maybe we’ll find replacements. But, they were part of a rock solid line overall. I know each of them individually doesn’t seem imposing, but however as part of the group they did damned well overall.

    ====

    The ironic thing is that if you went back to say, early August 2011 and read this same blog, know what you’d see? All kinds of crying and moaning about how not a player on the Raiders roster (with the possible exception of newly drafted but unproven little Wiz) was an NFL caliber starting lineman.

    Amazing how quickly perceptions change when you have the right mixture of scheme and coaching working with the talent available. Fact is that Knapp knows a thing or two about schemes and OL based on the results where ever he’s been. If his input is leading to the cuts based on the bang for the buck of payers like Satele and CC, then I’m putting my trust in his knowledge. I have plenty of faith that he has the skill to spot the types of talent that will work in his system. I also have confidence in what McKenzie has shown around fiscal responsibility to bring in guys at the right price.

    When all is said and done, the Raiders will have as a good of an OL as they did last season at a lower cap hit and possibly even with a little more youth for long term cohesiveness over the next few seasons.

    Well, O-Line just jumped up there in area of urgent need instead of area of strength.

    Now I’m almost as scared about our O-Line as our CBs. We only have 2 starters signed and only 1 back-up that I really feel has a chance (Barskdale) and don’t know how he’ll fit with the ZBS.

    CB (noone who would start on other teams on our roster), LBs (barely any depth and a bunch of one-trick ponies) and now O-Line (only 2 starters out of the 5 which made up that pretty solid line under contract).

    I read that the Magic would have him convinced to stay, then his agent would change his mind, over and over again…..and that said agent is new and didn’t get paid on Howard’s last contract, so he wants Howard somewhere new with a new contract.

    But wouldn’t his agent get payed if Howard extended with the Magic? Maybe that doesn’t count?

    Damned greedy agents! Unless of course the agent convinces him to go to the Lakers….then I love that guy!
