Raiders add yet another cornerback

By Steve Corkran
Wednesday, March 21st, 2012 at 12:25 pm in Oakland Raiders.

The Raiders signed three-year veteran cornerback Pat Lee to a one-year contract, according to NFL Network.
Lee, 28, spent the past four seasons with the Green Bay Packers, so he is someone that new Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie is very familiar with.
Lee appeared in 32 games in 2008, 2010 and ’11. He sat out the 2009 season with a knee injury he suffered the previous season.
Lee has started only one game in the NFL. He spent most of his time with the Packers as a core special-teams player. He figures to get a shot at cornerback with the Raiders, who are seeking to replace jettisoned starters Stanford Routt and Chris Johnson.

Couldn’t stand Tebowmania last season. Now, I’m hoping he succeeds and Manning fails in Denver. I would love to see Broncos humiliated.

  • guest123

Sean Payton sure got the hammer from Goodell. There are still 22 to 27 players out there that are awaiting their punishment. How likely is it that one of them is Tracy Porter? I’d say about 95% likely he’s one of them.

If Porter is facing a suspension, that has to weigh on anyone signing him. I’d still like to have him with the suspension, but not if the price is too high.

    · Also, the Jets might have just become the best short-yardage team in the NFL. You give Tim Tebow a package of plays and put him on the field on third-and-2, you don’t think he can be a valuable weapon? And it’s not as if the Jets had Matt Flynn or Earl Morrall backing Sanchez up so how is this so terrible for the Jets? #jets #nyg

    Paul Schwartz
    Also In New York Giants
    · You know it’s not as if Tim Tebow has no idea how to play the game or win games. He’s not coming to the Jets to be their starting quarterback. Mark Sanchez makes tons more money than Tebow, it’s his job and if he can’t deal with a high-profile backup then he’s not mentally tough enough to handle the job. #nyg #jets

This is almost word for word what I was saying yesterday. The Jets did the right thing, and if Sanchez or Cromartie or anyone else on that team doesn’t understand it then they don’t belong there.

Agreed, which is why I think that it was Reggie McKenzie that postponed Porter’s visit to Oakland and not Porter. Reggie is demonstrating that he’s a very deliberate and thorough guy, and I think he wants to see what’s going to happen with Porter before he goes any further. Porter has made other visits, but I don’t think it’s quite as critical with the Raiders that he get in here right away because DA knows him well and Porter knows the Raiders are interested.

How is bringing in Tebow the right thing? Their entire locker room is a loose ship and Rex Ryan is the one that let it get that way. Tebow isn’t going to change the dysfunctional culture in that locker room. That flock won’t follow him, and especially if he’s a part-time gimmick player. In Denver, he had the status and respect that goes with being a starting QB. In New York, he’s a novelty, a sideshow freak. If he tries to change that circus, they’ll laugh him off to the sideline with mock Tebowing gestures. Tebow has no idea how bad it will be.

  • SilverNBlackPA

    Mornin’ Nation!

Tebow is basically a bigger, stronger Bruce Gradkowski. Excellent at being a spark coming off the bench and a spot starter or a game or two or three but can never carry a franchise on his back.

Dude, he’s a role player. He wasn’t brought in to save the franchise, or even to start. He’s not a “novelty”, or a “sideshow freak”, he’s a football player that has demonstrated the ability to help his team get first downs and touchdowns, and win games when called upon.

If a backup quarterback that can run a few short-yardage and goal-line plays per game is a threat to your team chemistry, then Tim Tebow is not the problem. By ALL accounts, he’s a great and unselfish teammate that works very hard, and contributes when he’s asked to. I thought Tannenbaum was excellent in his PC yesterday; the media made some effort to create an issue and he was very matter-of-fact about Tebow’s role, where he was in the heirarchy, and what to expect.

Maybe you think it’s better to coddle the (in my estimation) very few guys on that team that have a problem with it. Me? I’d rather have the team player and let the management and the coaching staff run the team.

In a way, we can thank Campbell for the Palmer trade. Campbell couldn’t stand having a competent backup behind him who might take his job so to save his hurt little feelings they ditched Gradkowski, didn’t get anyone equivalent/better, and made Boller the #2. And we saw what happened.

I don’t know for a fact that Sanchez is upset by this. I’ve only heard speculation that he might be, but he to my knowledge hasn’t said anything.

The Jets extended his contract, gave him a boatload more money, and announced to the entire world that he was their starting quarterback. They also told the entire world what Tebow’s role would be. I don’t see how there could be any semblance of confusion there at all, or anything for Sanchez to worry about, if he’s even worried.

As for Cromartie, he should just STFU and play defense and let the people that employ him make the decisions.

It’s a good point about Campbell. I used to stick up for him when he lost his job and got dissed by Hue after all his hard work in the offseason.

But Glo tucked tail and joined the Bears on day one of free agency. He was supposed to be one of the day one prime FA’s according to some, and he accepted demotion like a dog with fleas. There were still quite a few jobs out there to be had. But Campbell doesn’t consider himself a starting QB anymore. What a waste.

Why does Tebow accept the clear b/u role up in Yankeeville. He’s a Southerner who doesn’t fit in up there and won’t be given a shot at beating out Sanchez, no matter what the media or fans say. Sanchez is getting paid too much money for that to happen.

Tebow could have owned Jacksonville. Trades would have happened, the sea would have parted to inaugurate him as the lead dog. Guess he really doesn’t want to be the starter anymore. Does he have any alpha dog in him at all?

Last I checked, the fans don’t make personnel decisions. This isn’t a Kyle Orton situation, which seems to be lost on quite a number of people.

Sanchez is the unquestioned starter in New York, and the Jets have gone out of their way to clarify that for anyone that might not quite grasp it, or want to create controversy where it doesn’t exist. ONE player on the Jets team has said that the sky is falling, and he’s not exactly immune to controversy all by himself. Neither is the embarrassment that is Joe Namath, who just keeps damaging his legacy more by the day.

  • SilverNBlackPA

Didn’t look at Twitter yesterday, so I just did a quick scan of Cork’s, Jerry Mac’s and Tafur’s feeds. Quick recap:

-Barnes’s contract is for $2 million. Cork says they’re not going to pay him that to sit on the bench, he’s the starter. I’m fine with him being penciled in as starter for now, but I hope Barksdale and Campbell will be given legitimate opportunities to win that job in camp.

-Tafur thinks the Raiders are going to go with Bartell and Spencer as their provisional starting CBs and let Chekwa, Lee and DVD fight it out for their placements on the depth chart. Again, I’m fine with Bartell and Spencer being penciled in, but I hope there’s competition.

I could care less what people like Cromartie say.
The writing is on the wall with this situation imo. Sanchez is not Orton but that still does not make him immune to being replaced. Of course management is going to come out and have Sanchez’s back. What is going to happen when Tebow does really well in Tony Sparano’s wildcat? Then the # of plays that are successful as opposed to when Mark is in the game become lopsised? You don’t think that will stir some controversy? On top of the fans getting more an more obnoxious by the week. You don’t have to agree with me, but at least recognize there is a strong possibilty that what I’m saying is more than feasable.

That was a good write up, sad, but it probably needed to be done, especially after the boo birds came out in full force the other night! Reading that article, can you imagine if Bird went there…that could have been good or bad but at least the competition possibly could have been in the West!
